Hi Sam, hope you don't mind a question regarding the cooking on weekends and how you approach your lunches. Do you find this way of eating more cost effective? I'm trying to cut the amount of money I spend on food during the work week and your way definitely seems more money friendly.

Well, I mean…more cost effective than what, I guess is the question. Certainly it’s cheaper than buying your lunch every day. Packing a sandwich every day would probably be cheaper than the food I make, but that’s hard to quantify. (Two weeks’ worth of peanut butter sandwiches is definitely cheaper than two weeks’ worth of chicken enchiladas, pulled pork with mashed potatoes, and macaroni with meatballs, but only works if you really love peanut butter sandwiches.) (Actually I feel like I could go for an almond butter sandwich with apple butter, that might be dinner tonight.)

I think the main consideration with the way I have things arranged is “will you eat the food”. You have to pack foods you’re going to want to eat, foods you like, or foods you know you’ll have the energy to prepare if they need preparation. It’s no good packing a lunch if you don’t eat it – once in a while I have a week where I’ll forget a few meals or be out sick and then, really, that food is wasted. After a week in the fridge, I tend to toss whatever’s left because it’s usually a bit iffy by then. That’s why I freeze what I don’t take for lunch, because that’s next week’s lunch and needs to stay edible in the meantime.

So you may have to work out what you’ll eat in place of going out to eat, and while that may be cheaper than going out, it may also be more expensive than your absolute cheapest option.

And I also feel like…you know, if you’re aware that you’re always going to want potato chips for lunch, and if you find yourself buying chips from the vending machine instead of eating the lunch you brought…lean into that. Accept it. Buy snack bags of potato chips in a pack and bring them from home so that at least you’re not overpaying. There are worse things in life than eating potato chips for lunch.

And the thing is, one reason all this works for me is that I really like cooking large amounts over the course of a day – I hate cooking a single meal for one person, so my dinners are almost always reheated leftovers. If I’m in the kitchen I want to be like…IN THE KITCHEN, making shitloads of food all at once. I much prefer cooking five or six different dishes on a weekend to cooking one of those dishes each night for a week, even. I don’t know why, it’s just how I operate. So you also should be aware of how you function in the kitchen, both in terms of ability and in terms of preference, and let that guide you as well.

I’m honestly like… a pretty good cook (mostly because i just find rly good recipes and make them correctly) ! i wish I’d attempted to learn how to actually cook sooner because its really fun and so satisfying to eat a good food u cooked yourself !!!!!!!!!!! I love it all i wanna talk about is the tasty food i make

Hey there! What kind of cat is Pumpkin? There's this girl cat in my backyard that looks exactly like him and I might try to adopt her, also do you feed him dry or wet cat food?

I don’t know if he’s got a specific breed; I’m pretty sure he’s just a mutt.  He’s a lovely mutt. <3

But going by his fur and build, I’m guessing he’s got some American shorthair and maybe even some Oriental or Siamese kitty in him, thanks to his cheekbones and distinctively loud “MOW” when he’s really trying to get my attention.  Fur-wise, he’s a buff (fancy word for the pale orange) tabby with white markings on his face, belly, and legs.

Weirdly enough, Pumpkin doesn’t like wet food!  I’ve tried him on several brands, and he’ll eat it if he’s hungry enough, but he much prefers dry food.  As a result, I’ve gotta take extra care to make sure he has enough water in his bowl to make sure he doesn’t get dehydrated.  But every cat is different, and your vet will be sure to have recommendations for food brands.

If you do adopt your little backyard kitty, just make sure she gets spayed and has all her shots! :D  Rabies is gonna be top on your list, considering she’s a stray.

Okay! I read through your blog and I love it cause the writing is awesome and all the skeles are my favorite. And speaking of the spooky sexy skeletons, how would the US, UT, and UF bros deal with eating a s'more for the first time? Have an awesome day! <3

Spooky Sexy Skeletons. I love that.

And I Love you, you’re so sweet!

Also, this ask is so innocent? Kinda adorable.

Now I want a S'more.

UT! Sans: at first he doesn’t really get food combinations, but he ends up really liking s’mores. Makes a another one, puts ketchup on it and ruins it, but hey, it makes him happy, so let him have it. Try not to cringe because he will get self conscious and never eat in front of you again.

UT! Paps: is reluctant to eat it, because it is so messy and also it isn’t spaghetti. But he ends up enjoying it, and makes like 20. Now he always makes Spaghetti and S’mores for dessert. He’s a skeleton, he does what he wants.

UF! Sans: he doesn’t have a huge sweet tooth. He enjoys having one, but he can’t handle any more. Likes the idea of food combinations, just isn’t that big on sweets.

UF! Paps: opposite of his brother; huge sweet tooth. Is skeptical at first, why are you combining foods, human? But when he tries it, he immediately wants more because damn, s’mores are good. Makes a lot, eats them all. Don’t judge him, he’ll make you cry.

US! Sans: please don’t feed him sweets oh no. But you did. He loved it so much, and now Papyrus is glaring at you because Sans is a hyper cinnabon. He tries to make more so you better hide the chocolate and marshmallows!

US! Paps: is the one person who eats the things separately. To lazy to wait, eats the crackers and chocolate while the marshmallow is roasting. Never gets a legit s’more unless you make it for him. If you do, he eats it, no big deal. It’s the same thing to him. He’s a simple skele-man.

I love the regan fandom y'all are the best people and make me smile and i love that you guys have the headcanon that rick can't cook for shit yet seems to eats lots and hoards food lmao. what are some other headcanons you have? or your faves?

Ohhhh boy lotsa headcanons! Some collective ones I’ve seen rolling around the fandom that are great:

  • Negan can cook really well
  • Rick has terrible taste in music
  • Negan gets sick on rollercoasters but Rick loves them
  • Rick loves plants and gardening
  • Negan likes to slip his hands into the back pockets of Rick’s jeans
  • Rick and Negan sing loud and off-key on car trips
  • (Should the terrible scalie/furry meta be on here or??)
  • Negan loves cats
  • Negan likes cryptids/believes in aliens
  • Negan is constantly taking pictures of Rick doing random things because he thinks his boyfriend is cute (’cause he is)
  • Rick has a flip phone/is terrible with technology

Some headcanons I personally have:

  • Negan was in a garage band in high school
  • Negan wears glass and Rick REALLY likes said glasses
  • Rick can actually sing pretty well, but is shy/awkward about it so he sings off-key on purpose
  • Negan likes to read and always has a book he’s reading
  • Rick’s favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip (idk why he just really seems like a mint chocolate chip guy to me. He likes it more if it’s the kind that’s green.)
It *CAN* Be Done

I have been plagued with bad lipid profiles (the triglycerides in particular) my entire adult life.  See those results highlighted in yellow?  That was from my tests done last week, and I just now got to see them.  My 2/15/17 results were a wake-up call.  After that, I set a goal, made a plan, and stuck with it.  Since then, in addition to lowering my cholesterol, I have lost over 30 lbs. My goal was to weigh 200 lb. by June 1 - I reached that milestone two weeks ago and am just under 194 lb., with the weight loss slowing down, but still happening.  Yeah, occasionally I have a couple of slices of pizza or a burger or some chicken wings, but I don’t eat a whole pizza or a burger+fries+Coke+milk-shake or 30 wings at a sitting like I used to.

I have learned to love healthy food.  I really look forward to my unsweetened coconut milk + frozen berries + vanilla protein powder + Optifiber smoothies (with an occasional half a banana when I’ve been especially low sugar throughout the day) in the afternoons.  Yeah, grocery shopping takes a lot longer now because I read the labels on EVERYTHING new before I buy it, and eating out, well, let’s just say I do research where possible, and if I can’t study the nutritional values of items on the menu, I just try to do the best I can :).   The point is, I’ve gone out of my way to find healthy alternatives for the foods I love.  Where I can’t, I just eat the “unhealthy” food in moderation and eat clean the rest of the day.  If I make especially poor food choices one day, I don’t beat myself up about it.  I go right back to “eating right” the next day.

The key is holding yourself accountable without being an asshole to yourself.  I use MyFitnessPal to log my meals.  Being able to see the remaining macros and calories left in my “budget” makes it easier to keep on track.  As I said, sometimes I go over, but hey, as long as it doesn’t happen regularly, I’m ok with it.  I DO NOT DEPRIVE MYSELF and I am rarely hungry.  Yes, I limit myself some, but it’s MY choice - no “I can’t eat anything with sugar in it” or “that has too much fat in it” - if that’s the case, I just take a smaller portion and eat something else I enjoy along with it.  A few well-stashed protein/Quest bars or protein RTD’s help, too :)

*I* did it, and am going to continue to do it.  You can do it, too.

What are some of Y'shenn's favorite foods?

“You know who makes the best loaghtan steaks? My housemate, Nowa’a!!! Not even The Bismarck can compare!!! He knows exactly how I like it and always serves it with a side of roasted nopales, stuffed cabbage rolls and heavensegg soup! After a long day of training, the stuff is to die for!!! I mean, I don’t consider myself a picky eater- I’ll eat almost anything! Meat is my favourite, though. I love meat. I love food.”

((Thank you for the question! Questions involving food are always fun, but then I also have to go through my Culinarian crafting log to pick out juuust the right things! Luckily, I consulted @mammets too, who produced an entire menu of possible items Shenn would love LOL. What a good friend.))

My dood is coneless and doin good. I did a quick store run earlier to see how be behaved and he didnt even consider his belly. Doctor said most dogs won’t, esp if its as healed nicely as his since it doesn’t itch etc.

Funny part is, going to the vet, he literally tried to get into the car UNDER the steering wheel and got stuck, and he ate part of the cone trying to get food off it. Yet when we got home and I removed it, he was like “meh”. As if the cone was never there.

I still have to walk him in the yard, and slowly transition him to his old food, but he’s doing well. And his 10th bday is tomorrow!

I wanted to get him something special to eat but I cant feed him anything wierd… one year he got about $6 of filet. This year, just lots of extra love for being here 10 wonderful years. And maybe some extra pumpkin.

I'm a chef and I hate eating. A lotta people tell me that you can't be a good chef if you don't like to eat food, but those same people tell me my food is amazing when they try it. I think you can be a good chef without loving to eat food as long as you love to cook.

Yeah, I agree. Cooking’s one of those things where you gotta taste it to see if it’s going as it should but your life doesn’t need to revolve around food like a lot of people expect? Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if being around food constantly would ruin someone’s appetite
