NYC's first transgender firefighter will serve as grand marshal at Pride
Brooke Guinan called the opportunity "an amazing honor."

The folks behind New York City Pride have announced one of this year’s grand marshals: Brooke Guinan, the city’s first transgender firefighter.

Brooke, who’s 29, has marched in Pride every year since she came out as trans eight years ago. Her parents are also firefighters, and they’ll be coming to Pride for the first time this year to support her.

“It’s very rare in the everyday life of a trans person to feel valued or to feel appreciated in society,” she added. “I look forward to the pride march every year. It’s nice to be around your people, your LGBTQ family ― to really feel like you can let loose and not have to worry about judgment.” […]

While she doesn’t currently put out any fires in her current position as LGBTQ outreach coordinator for the FDNY, Guinan still feels she can make a huge impact in the lives of so many people.

“At the end of the day, I really just feel like I’m living my life,” she said. “I don’t necessarily understand why it gets so much attention. But if that attention can be used for good … and can be used to promote the education and betterment of other trans people then I feel like it’s my responsibility to do that.”

Awesome! Congratulations, Brooke.

Spell to be Heard

Grab a lipstick, chapstick, or anything you prefer. Write a pentacle on a surface, place the lip item in the center.  I chose to embellish mine with crystals and items that called to me, but they are not necessary. Once you place the lip item in the center, say these words.

“My words are power

I am Heard

I am valid”

May it be!

Use this spell on any of your lip items! Use it for poetry, work meetings, voicing your needs. Enjoy!

A beautiful song written by @truereset based on The Adventure Zone and the Stolen Century arc. Thank you to them for letting me cover this song! It’s such a beautiful piece and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out fingerpicking for the first time.

Apparently @feministingforchange‘s idea of providing a safe and respectful blog for a-spec, bi, and trans folks is to uncritically reblog, boost, and endorse some of the most hateful, disgusting, and blatant lies and smear campaigns the exclusionists have ever come up with–not only without fact checking them but while openly admitting that they contain hateful blatant lies aimed directly at literally ruining the lives of vulnerable, marginalised, innocent people and not only endorsing them anyway but continuing to add her own lies to the defense of them.

This smear campaign and everything in it, like most of the desperate depths to which exclusionists sink, has been thoroughly debunked from multiple angles by a variety of people on every side of the discourse. It is blatantly and obviously, to anyone who looks at it with more than the most cursory glance, a genuinely fucking evil attempt to ruin the real lives of real people, primarily queer trans folks and their families, by any lie necessary, all because they have a conflicting view on exclusionary politics.

You cannot call your blog safe for anyone while actively endorsing this. You cannot pretend to support victimised, marginalised people while collaborating with the people victimising them. You cannot pretend to be the ally of people you are willing to turn on and then work to silence without a shred of evidence.

I highly encourage everyone who actually supports a-spec, m-spec, and trans folks and is concerned for the depths to which exclusionists will sink to silence us to block and no-platform her, for your own protection if nothing else. She has demonstrated not only a willingness to turn on us and do the vile work of our enemies, but to be completely unwilling to acknowledge her hurtfulness or engage in anything resembling a discussion about her reprehensible choices, or to engage with the people she claims to care about with any amount of honesty or good faith. We all know how readily exclusionists will knife us in the back on the flimsiest and most fabricated evidence; she cannot be treated as safe or trustworthy as long as she’s willing to help them do it without a modicum of critical thought or respect for the people she’s needlessly hurting.

A quick lesson in Zaynglish

Put on your Eliza Doolittle hats, I’m about to teach you some Zaynglish.

To really grasp Zaynglish, to really become one with Zehn, you must master the art of knowing when to throw down some random “h”’s. The “h” is your Major Key™.  Just throw that shit down like a vowel and don’t even worry about it:

“Ahm in ah coohl bohybend”

“Muh mum bought meh deese boxehs”

Sometimes you’ll need to make the judgement call to use “u” instead of “a” or “o”. You’ll know what to do.  Just put on some serums, listen to some Drake, find yourself some cat memes, and don’t overthink it:

“Weh’re  yuhng bohys  ahnd we’re ahl guhnna beh cryhin’

“Tehke dem ahff sloah, broh”

“Dis is guhnna beh big tyhme yoh”

“Ah’ll treh buht ah’ll miss yew tuh mooch Leeyum!!”

And now you should be a Zaynglish master. You’re welcome.

WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHY - Brian and Justin edition

Who: hugs like this? The answer is NO ONE.
What: kind of human being chooses to hug another human being like this? UNREALISTIC.
When: did they decide they wanted us all to die by hugging like this? (The answer is June 10, 2001 when 1x21 aired)
Where: did all their fucks go? Did they just decide “fuck it!! let’s hug like we’re 90 years old, waiting to die like we’re in the damn Notebook”
Why: are they like this?

Who: gave Gale the instruction to move in that close and touch Justin’s face like that? I want a name so I can shout at them years later about how I’ve been in pain since this moment.
What: is up with their non-stop banter and flirting in this one scene? Please slow down so us fans can BREATHE.
When: did Justin know he had Brian damn well wrapped around his little finger? (The answer is 1x03)
Where: does Brian get off telling everyone they aren’t in a relationship? Hun, your mouth is saying one thing but your body language is saying another.
Why: are they like this???

Who: raised them to act like actual twelve year olds?
What: kind of “couple” acts like this? The answer is there is NO couple who acts like this. I checked and there’s NONE.
When: will they give us a damn break? I was already exhausted from s1-early s2 and yet they continue to give us moments like this. Rude.
Where: do I go if I want to completely erase this moment from my brain? I’m still suffering.

Who: do they think they are, making Brian and Justin’s final scene together arguably their most visually (and just in general) beautiful scene in the entire show? Couldn’t y’all just have made it basic af so I could move on??
What: did they expect us to do when we heard Ambition playing in the background? Say “aw this is sad” and move on? NO. Put your damn hand up if the lyrics of Ambition have scarred your brain forever. PUT IT UP.
When: did they decide that the fact this was their final scene together wasn’t enough? They had to say “okay, now you’re going to NUZZLE”?? Like??? No boo, I’ll pass.
Where: ‘s like a good place to go? If I wanna just die?

anonymous asked:

Is the evil spirit in your cursed voice Au a real one from like a culture/tradition? I've never heard of it and it sounds really cool....

Ah, actually I made the spirit myself spesifically for this AU! I’m really happy she gives off the aura of an actual myth, but alas she’s 100% fictional.

I found out she’s way funnier to draw than expected (I made the design plain so I wouldn’t grow attached but oops..?)

“I couldn’t stop looking at her, didn’t want to blink… . The sight of her made me sigh. All that and then there was the voice. A voice that drove out bad spirits … she sang in a voice straight to God… . Nothing she did didn’t work.”

– Bob Dylan, “Chronicles: Vol. One”

“I was getting audiences up to 10,000 at that point, and dragging my little vagabond out onto the stage was a grand experiment… The people who had not heard of Bob were often infuriated, and sometimes even booed him.”

– Joan Baez

My favorite Soundgasm/GWA users so far:

  • bourbon_neat (he’s the first I ever listened to and will probably always be my favorite. Sweet, sexy, and has the kind of laugh that warms your heart and makes your toes curl at the same time.)
  • Tom_Like_A_Bomb (Sophisticated, suave, and one of the best in my opinion. I feel like in addition to being satisfied, I learn a new word or two every time I listen to one of his audios)
  • msa_andeh (2 words: Loki Incubus. :D Ok, I enjoy his other work, too but his soothing and comfort audios are super nice to listen to as well. Very nice to fall asleep to.)
  • GateOfIvory (Such a lovely, deep voice and sweet laughter. Def. pair this one up with msa_andeh for a good time)
  • everdistant_utopia (Oh my god, this is such a sweet user! Does a fantastic job of acting out the audios and I don’t know, I just feel like giving him a hug half the time I listen to him. Damn, his switches are good, too)
  • Saronide (the boy doubted the Hitachi. I laughed and enjoyed when he realized he may have judged it too soon)
  • voxvir (oh my god, the Untouchable audio felt SO REAL)
  • Qarnivore (this boy is a growly noisemaker and a giggly one. I enjoyed his Organized Orgasms posts. lol)
  • The_Other_Guy (British and fantastic with the dirty talk)
  • Phallomenon (thank you, @allthenobodyppl We’ve got our Jullian Priest/Thin White Duke fix now)
  • Issoladach (I am a sucker for the Irish accent, but the way he delievers the lines is sooooooo nice. Plus, I love when he slips some Gaelic in)
  • irish-tricolour (Only two audios, but again, love the sweet Irish accent)

I basically love men who have deep and/or growly voices(fucking max points if they actually growl), have a sweet or cute laugh/giggle, and can make the scripted audios feel real and not porn set like. If you’re into listening to erotic audio, I’d give these a go and if you’re curious, go check out the gonewildaudio on reddit. There so much more out there to discover and listen to. Happy eargasms! :D

just for some context, this was me telling a terf to step in front of a bus after they talked about how trans women are “males” on one of my posts (x)

y’all wanna say that all exclusionists are terfs, and yet here are not one, but TWO semi well known inclusionists literally defending terfs.

y’all are so ugly. stop protecting terfs.

You're Dead
Norma Tanega
You're Dead

Artist: Norma Tanega
Track: You’re Dead
Album: Walking My Cat Named Dog
Label: New Voice Records
Year: 1966

I first heard this song as the theme to the hilarious New Zealand Vampire Comedy Mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows, and I was floored.  Of course I thought it was probably the work of some modern, indie singer-songwriter lady, but it turned out to be by former camp counsellor and erstwhile lover of Dusty Springfield, Norma Tanega.

Honestly, I had heard very little 60′s Folk music that had such beautiful darkness to it… the song just seemed to be thematically post 80′s.  You would have thought that Norma Tanega would have been more likely to have been the girlfriend of Rennie Sparks rather than Dusty Springfield… but you, like I, would have been wrong.

Insomniac Playlist

Click the songs to hear them. I recommend headphones, a hot cup of tea and a book - put your phone away!

1. Sound Asleep // Blondie : This song just describes that state of mind where you’re craving sleep but it just won’t come to you. Packed with a whirling lullaby melody, a soothing, calming beat and Debbie Harry’s dreamy vocals - this song is perfect to wind down to.

2. Oblivion // Bastille : The basis of this song is about watching someone fall into oblivion and never managing to quite get there yourself. Starting with Dan’s clear, calming voice and a single piano, it escalates into a beautiful tangle of strings with mesmerizing electronic beats and heartwarming, layered high notes.

3. Pale Blue Eyes // The Velvet Underground : It may be decades old but for me, this song is my secret sleeping weapon. Consisting of a mellow bass, light riffs of acoustic-goodness and a pure voice singing some of the most beautiful words ever written - this song and it’s hypnotic nature will have you snoring in seconds.

4. Breathe // Of Verona : This song is purely about love, however the chorus can really help to soothe your breathing and chill you out. Starting out as just a silky voice and basic, haunting accompaniment, it gradually blossoms into a beautifully dramatic collision of cymbals, layered, echoing vocals and a lullaby-esque flooding of drums and piano.

5. Tempt You (Evocatio) // Nothing But Thieves : Pure slow-indie perfection about being tempted away from ‘the city’. It’s a mollifying, smooth vocal that will make your head spin paired with a gradual build-up of minimalistic guitar and electronic sounds - this is sure to send you into a deep on-the-edge-of-sleep feeling.

6. I Work Nights and You Work Days // To Kill A King : This song is written about someone who works nights and comes home to see their partner sleeping lightly. Consisting of a consoling, rich folk voice that lies softly alongside a piano laced with sections of heart-warming strings - this song will make your eyes feel heavy and your bones feel tired.

7. Hold You // Nina Nesbitt (ft. Kodaline) : A match made in lullaby heaven, this collaboration will have you drifting between dreamland and reality. A slightly raspy but somehow clear, Scottish female voice teamed up with a gentle and heart-wrenching, Irish male voice layered over the top of a folk-indie instrumental, this is a definite track for a sleep playlist.

8. The Parting Glass // Ed Sheeran : Now I’m not a massive Ed Sheeran fan, but this hidden track found at the end of Give Me Love from his first album (+) is so simple and yet so soothing that it had to be included. With the only accompaniment being Ed’s harmonized humming and the rest is his reassuring vocal, this minimalistic track is amazing as a lullaby.

9. Final Masquerade (Acoustic) // Linkin Park : The original version of this song was on The Hunting Party, an album that I only own on vinyl but the acoustic version was floating about on iTunes. A true acoustic featuring Chester’s mesmerizing vocal, contrasted with a lower male voice and packets of a woman’s voice during the beginning - this song is like a stepping stone to a chilled out mind.

10. Metal & Dust // London Grammar : Indie relaxation at it’s best, this song can be interpreted into many different messages. Filled with light and fluffy beats, some hidden strings possibly and dominated by Hannah’s velvet-coated vocals, this is fantastic.
