“What do you mean he’s in the hospital? This was supposed to be a simple mission!” I yelled at Tony as I deserted him in the living room and sprinted towards the medical bay. I pushed through the doors and ran to Peter’s side. He was laying on a comfy white bed, stained with blood. “Oh my god Peter what happened?” I asked urgently. He was sitting in nothing but his spidey suit from his hips down. A deep cut was slashed across his stomach and abs, the blood shining the light as he moved.  An IV needle was stuck on the underside of his wrist, pumping fluid into his system. “(Y/n), love, it’s okay, I’m okay.” he said reaching out to run his fingers through my hair. “Don’t tell me you’re okay when you’re are so obviously not.” I firmly said, leaning into his touch. He rested his head on the pillow and sighed. “It’s my fault anyway.” I sat on the end of his bed taking care to avoid his feet. “That’s not true.” Tony’s voice said from behind me. I turned, noticing for the first time, the lines that were creasing his forehead.

“Mr. Stark, it really was my fault.” Peter said opening his heavy eyes. All around him, doctors were gathering what looked to be materials for surgery. “Who’s fault was it then?” I asked crossing my arms and glaring at Tony. He met my eyes, but looked away, preferring instead to speak to Peter’s cut. “The mission was going as planned, until one of the Hydra agents saw one of the camera’s we planted. We were exposed and the mission was already compromised so I called my suit. Peter was already in his so all he had to do was rip off his other clothes.” He let a puff of air out through his mouth, and chanced a look at me before resting his hand on Peter’s knee. “You were amazing kid. Firing webs and pinning agents to the wall. There wasn’t anyone else I would have rather been with.” In Peter’s half asleep state he gave a nod of thanks.

“Excuse me. Miss?” I turned to see a dark skinned woman dressed in a white doctor’s coat. “Yes?” I asked. “It is time for Mr. Parker’s surgery, and I’m afraid I’m going to have to have to ask you to wait outside the medical bay.” “Of course, let me know what room he’s in, and when I should come see him.”  I asked, standing from Peter’s bed. “Sure. He should be done in about 2 to 3 hours. Room 102.” The dark skinned doctor smiled and wheeled the now sleeping spider-man away. There was a moment of silence before I turned to Tony who somehow was 2 feet behind me. He opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it as I stormed past him.

A few hours later, I had successfully baked all of Peter’s favorite desserts and stuffed them into my backpack, before making my way to the medical bay. “100, 101, 102..” I counted as I quietly stepped into Peter’s room. He was laying on a clean bed in a hospital gown asleep. I closed the door and dropped my backpack into a chair. I looked at my sleeping boyfriend and felt a twinge of anger. I should have been assigned to go on the mission with him. I could have protected him, and made sure he didn’t get hurt. “If I couldn’t help him then, I’m definitely going to help him now.” I thought, my anger giving way to stubbornness.

I frowned and felt his forehead. Not hot or cold; and his heartbeat was consistent. I sat in one of the chairs and unpacked my backpack. “(Y/n)?” He said, his voice barely above a whisper. I shot up and took one of his weak hands in mine. “I’m here Peter.” I said pushing some stray hairs off his forehead. “I don’t feel good.” He moaned gripping my hand tighter. “Yes well you’ve just had surgery.” I said. “Am I going to be okay?” he whispered, eyes still closed. “Yes you’re going to be fine babe. Get some rest okay?” I giggled. He nodded in agreement and immediately fell asleep. I turned towards the door where I could hear the loud talking of the entire team. I darted out the door and stood in the frame, blocking entry.

“Can you guys be quiet please.” I said over Nat and Sam’s arguing. As one of the youngest avengers, naturally I was ignored. “QUIET!” I yelled, silencing the various assassins and drawing surprised looks from their faces. “Thank you.” I said dipping my head. “Now, Peter has just fallen asleep and he needs plenty of rest so he can heal. Please come back later.” I said turning to go back inside the room. “Why do you get to see him?” Bucky said from the back of the group. I stood on my tip toes so I could see his face over the top of the avenger’s heads. “Because Peter needs to rest. And because I said so.” I smiled dropping back down on the balls of my feet. “(Y/n) you don’t really get to say who goes in and out. This is my tower after all.” Tony argued from the front of the group. I tilted my head to the side and and gave him a blinding smile. “Well if you would like to see Peter you can, but only if your okay with the rest of the team finding your body in a warehouse in Mongolia.” Tony blanched and took a step back. “On second thought, the kid does need some rest.”

As the team started to leave I heard someone mumble “We can just sneak in through the air vents while she’s sleeping.” I smirked and confidently walked through the door. “I brought my favorite knife with me Clint.” I shouted over my shoulder, laughing as he broke off from the pack and sprinted away.

Fires in large, open spaces like aircraft hangers can be difficult to fight with conventional methods, so many industrial spaces use foam-based fire suppression systems. These animations show such a system being tested at NASA Armstrong Research Center. When jet fuel ignites, foam and water are pumped in from above, quickly generating a spreading foam that floats on the liquid fuel and separates it from the flames. Since the foam-covered liquid fuel cannot evaporate to generate flammable vapors, this puts out the fire.

The shape of the falling foam is pretty fascinating, too. Notice the increasing waviness along the foam jet as it falls. Like water from your faucet, the foam jet is starting to break up as disturbances in its shape grow larger and larger. For the most part, though, the flow rate is high enough that the jet reaches the floor before it completely breaks up. (Image credit: NASA Armstrong, source)

Those of us who remain in Christianity often do so because we believe that although rooted in a historical event and tradition the Christian faith is not a finished, static, mono-dementional ‘package’, but a living, fluid, changing, and diverse system and story, constantly in the process of deconstruction and reconstruction. We believe, against all odds and outward appearances, that it can be redeemed from oppressiveness, because from the beginning it has had some inbuilt resistance to what has been made of it and there have always been Christians even in the darkest of days who have picked up on this liberating strand.

violent ends • theo raeken

SUMMARY: and then, in the end, all violent delights, must come to a violent end.

Things had been going south, and there was nothing Y/N could do to stop or slow it down. The most she could do was watch as it all fell apart. And it was heartbreaking.

The secret about Theo working with the Dread Doctors was out in the open, and Y/N was one of the first to hear about it.

“You… what?” Y/N’s voice came out small and broken, her eye’s looking up into Theo’s. “Y/N, please, just listen,” Theo begged, cupping her face in his large hands. She backed away, shaking her head as tears formed in her eyes, “I trusted you, I gave my all.”

“I did too.”

“Did you even really love me? Or was that too, just a big part to get closer to Scott?” Y/N asked bitterly. Theo shook head head violently, suddenly very regretful, “Never! Babygirl, I know I fucked up, and I’ll never forget it. But don’t you think for a second I faked any feeling for you!”

Y/N broke down then, tears flowing down her face as she choked out broken sobs. “C'mere Princess,” Theo whispered. “I love you, I love you so much,” he whispered at her. She looked up at him with blotchy eyes and a red nose, “I love you too, Theo.”

That day had changed everything. Theo could deal with the pack hating him, but Y/N hating him was a whole other story. Though Lydia spoke harsh words about how much she loved him, there was always a thought at the back of Theo’s mind that she didn’t. But he was very wrong. And he knew it too.

“Do you know how Y/N is doing?” Theo walked up to Scott, biting his lip anxiously. He hadn’t seen the girl he loved so dearly in a period of two days, and he was starting to get even more worried than he already had been.

“Not that you’d care - but she’s doing better than she was,” Stiles snapped. Theo’s face turned from soft to stone in a matter of seconds. And within a moment passing, Stiles was pressed up against a wall by Theo, Theo’s palms digging into Stiles’ collarbones.

“I do care, Stiles. Don’t you ever tell me I don’t. Because I do, I love that girl more than anything, and I’m worried about her, and her health. So excuse me for doing so, but did it look like I was asking you?”

Theo let Stiles go, backing up as he looked back at Scott, “So, is she doing okay?”

“Better than she was when she first found out about everything,” Scott shrugged, looking Theo in the eyes. “Is that why she’s not here?” Theo replied. Scott sighed, “She’s with Lydia for the day, we all figured she needed a day to just relax and forget about everything. She’s been going through it pretty rough. That girl loves you more than she loves life itself,” Scott told him softly, hoping to mend some kind of brokenness he held for Y/N.

For the first time in a while, Theo looked at Scott with respect, Theo nodded once and walked away.

Theo worked harder after that. To some of the pack’s dismay, Scott’s pack and Theo started to work together.

Three days went by and there was another confrontation with the Dread Doctors. Only Liam, Theo, and Y/N were present.

Theo growled and pounced into action, Liam doing the same as his eyes glowed a brilliant yellow. Y/N stood by, trying to keep herself out of the action as much as she could.

But two supernatural creatures against three didn’t always turn out so well. One of the Dread Doctors had found away around the other four creatures who were fighting out their battles.

Y/N had no escape route as she looked anxiously back and forth between the fighting creatures and the robotic looking creature. The needle in one of the gloved hands was enough for her adrenaline to start pumping erratically.

Y/N moved back until she hit a cold wall, hard as stone and realized not only was her time coming to an end. But she would go without fighting out her own battles in life.

He stuck her with the long syringe, a scream of horror coming from her mouth as she felt it move into her bloodstream. Liam and Theo both stopped to look her way, and the scene unfolded very quickly. But in their eyes, it was nothing but slow motion.

All Theo could see was red, and the body that was Y/N, slowly falling to the ground as her knees gave out. Theo rushed over and caught her fall, still standing as he propped her up in his arms, as if she were standing too.

The Dread Doctors had disappeared as well, all in one and only the three were left in a silence so thick, it could be cut through with a knife.

“Princess, look at me,” Theo’s voice brought Y/N’s attention to him. “I love you, I always will. This isn’t the end,” He promised. Liam had Melissa on dial and she talked him through the steps to prolong her life until she could get medical attention. “Lay her down and try to soothe her, keep her from falling asleep. She’ll be here in five minutes,” Liam instructed. Theo did as told, trying to move Y/N as comfortably as possible.

“Baby, you hear that, we’re going to get you help,” Theo cracked a smile. Y/N’s lips made a smile too, and she looked up at Theo with tears in her eyes, “God, I love you,” she cried. She hissed in pain as she felt a rush of stinging run through her.

A car pulled up holding Melissa in the car and she helped Theo maneuver the fragile girl into the back seat as they rushed to the hospital quickly.

Melissa had gotten them set up quickly, making sure that nobody came in the way of the girl’s life. Liam called Scott and some of the other pack members as Theo anxiously waited for any kind of news. Melissa came out to the waiting room, sitting down across from Theo.

“What happened?” She asked. “It was a surprise attack with the Dread Doctors, they came out of nowhere,” Theo said, his eyes blank and lifeless. “There’s an unknown fluid running through her system right now, do you kno-”

“They stuck her with a syringe, it had some sort of fluid in it, but I don’t know what it was, it’s something I’ve never seen them use before,” Theo answered, finding it hard to concentrate on anything but Y/N. Melissa nodded, “We’ll let you in there soon, I promise,” Melissa told Theo, patting him softly on his leg before getting up and back into the hospital rooms.

Theo would ever forget that week. He had stayed in Y/N’s hospital room every night. “Hey, Y/N,” he spoke softly, grabbing her soft hand in his. “Theo, what happened?” She asked, her voice hoarse and groggy. “Oh princess,” Theo sighed, “A lot. Let’s not worry about that right now, how about?” Theo suggested. Y/N nodded weakly.

To see her in such a state broke Theo down. But he couldn’t let her see him break down, he didn’t want her to know just how lifeless she looked from another’s point of view. But from Theo’s, he felt he was losing the only thing that seemed to keep him alive.

Her heartbeat was slow, it was low and Theo could barely hear it. But it was there, partially.

“I love you,” She mumbled. A nurse walked in, and brought Theo aside, “We aren’t sure how long she’s going to make it. But we called her parents, they’re on her way,” The nurse explained, “Can you bring in the teenager’s in the waiting room as well, I want them to have a fair talk as well.”

The nurse nodded and walked off, off to find the teenagers in the waiting room. They all waited anxious for anything. Any sign of anything. Desperate to bring her home.

Y/N was in and out, her schedule of sleeping and being awake not scheduled very well.

Yet Theo stayed right by her side, only leaving when a doctor had either pushed him out of the room, or deemed it necessary for him to leave.

Her condition worsened with deep complication, Theo didn’t know how to stop or save her and Scott told him asking the Dread Doctor’s would only lead to more threats. Things had not been going anybody’s way.

Fifth day in the hospital and Y/N was pale, near lifeless, she was breathing heavily, the machine next to her being given nearly 100% oxygen through a mask. Theo’s eyes welled up with tears as he realized these might be his last moments with the girl he loved.

She squeezed his hand tightly, and Theo wasn’t sure if it was really her, or just a body reflex. But the people surrounding her knew that this was the last of her, but never the last of her legacy.

The beeping of the machine, and the sudden coldness of her hands made Theo stand up and cry out. It had been the first time anybody in the room saw him cry.

“No, please, God damnit! Don’t fucking do this to me!” he cried, cradling her hand in his, pulling it to his face. “Theo,” Scott tried to put a comforting hand on his shoulder. Theo didn’t flinch, but yet, kissed her once more on her sweaty forehead and then once on her hand. And then, walked out of the room.

There was no going back. She was a vice and a victory.

She was the story with the violent end.

The violent end that would be told as a fairytale, a fairytale that she deserved.

Human disease is caused by wrong rhythm of life, by ignorance of the law of periodicity. The appearance of man on the planet is not the cause of disease. There was disease in the mineral, vegetable, and animal kingdoms long before man. The basic cause of disease are mistakes about the law of periodicity, the law regulating the processes of nature. The law of periodicity can be studied in sexuality, for example such as it expresses itself in woman, in particular. By following this arrangement of nature, the cyclic manifestation of sexual impulses, important discoveries about the rhythm of life could be made. The application of this understanding would eliminate most causes of disease. The knowledge of the law of periodicity is in itself an entire discipline, which will be given to mankind when it proves itself able to comply with the laws of life.

Mankind has never sought to apply these laws, even though the wise men of all ages have intimated their existence. The planetary hierarchy casts no pearls. Pearls will be given to mankind, when it proves itself able to estimate their true value. All disease is caused by mistakes made about laws of nature and laws of life in this life or in past lives. Some people in the esoteric field assert that disease can be cured in some cases, but that this is possible only if you know the causes (in past lives) and, having a full knowledge of each particular cause-effect condition. Otherwise, the consequence will be that a certain organ is cured, but not the constitution, so that the disease is transferred to another organ….or the “germ of disease” may be transferred to a higher “envelope” and must work itself out in the next incarnation, if not in this one. So once again, the cause of disease MAY lie in past incarnations.

To look at a few things more specifically:
-Diseases that result from hatred (criticism and judgment) depend on energies going from the throat center to the navel center.

-The organism(body or being), has been whipped up to abnormal performance through stimulants, and the individual will have to pay for this.

-Physical disease is the result partly of wrong stimulation, over-stimulation, wrongly applied stimulation, or some sort of inner tension; partly of inhibitions, psychic deprivation, or congestion of energies.

   -Irritation results from self-interest, self-sufficiency, and self-satisfaction.

The cause of disease is not only, as many sects believe, illogical thinking. If that were the case, then everybody would be incurably ill. It’s also important to note that the zodiac signs each have a certain mineral(cell salt) that they associates themselves with..and in tern, they associate themselves with a particular body part. When we’re in compliance and in rhythm with these minerals, disease may also be avoided, or at the very least, we can minimize damaging effects that are created from their deficiency.

anonymous asked:

could you please do a reaction to being stuck in an elevator with bts but you're really hungover and kinda a hot mess? tia xx

You really, really wanted nothing more than to get to the breakfast bar downstairs and drown yourself in some OJ, because it worked wonders for your hangovers. Ugh, why did your friends decide to book a room on the 12th floor of all places too? You pressed the elevator button and slipped right in, ignoring how fancy the decor was of a bloody elevator.

You groaned, your head was pounding. You slammed your finger on ‘Ground Floor’ when you realised the elevator wasn’t moving. The movement of going down made you feel drowsy, nearly making you fall asleep until you were startled by the sudden jolt of the elevator. You mewled, and would probably regret that but you had such a bad headache and wanted nothing more than to eat, go back upstairs, sleep and then wakeup to sight see when your friends woke up from their hangovers. You would have stayed upstairs and ordered room service, but you knew moving around would probably help you balance out. Your hangovers were the worst.

You could tell some people had filtered into the elevator, some Korean voices too, really deep ones but you kept your eyes shut and huddled yourself against the corner of the elevator.

“I’m jealous of her sleeping. I want to sleep hyung.” You heard a voice say. It was familiar, but you didn’t think about it too much. You just wanted a 10 second nap to refresh your brain enough for food.

You were strangely comfortable in your little huddle right at the corner of the elevator, until somewhere in your senses it hit you that it shouldn’t take 5 minutes to get down to the ground floor.

You peeked an eye open.

You were met with panicked faces, really really good looking panicked faces that belonged to none other than BTS.

You opened both eyes. Wow. You thought. I’m in an elevator with BTS. BTS! Your friends would never believe you, unless you took a picture- but wasn’t that a privacy thing, considering you were stuck in an elevator with them too.

Jin would be shocked at the state of you unkept appearance. Hot mess indeed, your hair was all over the place and your eyes were dark from make up smudges. He kept his gaze on you for too long, because you looked kinda hot like that.

“You know, hangover soup is the best cure for what you’re having.” He would say after finally snapping out.

Hoseok would have the same reaction as Jin, kinda weirded out but intrigued. He also wouldn’t ask why you were like that but he tried to make the situation of being stuck in the elevator lighter.

“Don’t worry, BTS will protect you.” He joked, and you cracked a smile.

Namjoon would be the most supportive and open, probably asking you if you had a good night last night to break any silences.

“I’m so sorry everyone, you shouldn’t have to see me in such a mess state.” You said slightly embarrassed.

“No, no, we don’t get to do what you do so much. It makes us feel a little more like our age seeing you like that. Our friends must also be like that the morning after a party.” He said in understanding. Namjoon also thought the hot mess vibe you were giving off was attractive, he was low key debating if he should start making conversation with you just to get to know you.

Your appearance didn’t really bother Yoongi, he figured out you were probably hungover and waiting to get something in your system to feel better. He was low key jealous you could go out, because it was one thing knowing that’s what people his age did, another thing to actually see it.

“Did you have fun then?” He’d ask.

“I did, but it doesn’t feel like that now. Especially now we’re stuck here for a while.” You’d say shyly.

Jimin would be the most attentive to you, realising that you had decided to get to the ground floor to get some fluids in your system after a night out.

After a while of getting to know them, Jimin would offer you some water.

“Thank you, you’re a star.” You’d graciously accept, and Jimin had a soft spot for caring.

Bored Taehyung from being stuck, would want to know more about your life. Your current state made him think you had a fun party life.

“Do you go out often?” He’d ask, sitting next to you as he planned to make a new friend.

“Not really, It’s seriously sometimes. I’m not a party animal. My friend Eli invited me over after he found out he was staying here.” You explained. Taehyung would ask more about you, where you live, what you do, what do you like and would cheekily ask if you have a bias in BTS before being shut up by Jin for being even more embarrassing than him in Sweden.

You’d make a new friend for sure.

He’d follow what his hyungs were saying and probably join Taehyung in knowing more about you. As probably known, Kookie doesn’t mean too many people his age. So, for him this is super interesting and endearing.

You bond inside the elevator an make a friend like Taehyung, but with Jungkook it’s much more subtle. He shys away but then comes back again with curiosity.

Endogenic versus traumagenic? When should you consider trauma?

We never want to encourage people who have no reason to believe they have trauma to go down wildly speculative roads in order to disprove a negative (ie: the absence of trauma). That said, we worry that the DID/OSDD-1 communities and the non-trauma multiple communities are so separate that many people might accept non-traumatized multiple identities without exploring possible warning signs of trauma. If this doesn’t actually happen and it’s just our vain worry, then that’s great. In case it happens, here’s our post.

The most commonly accepted and most widely known explanation for multiplicity is that you (or perhaps others in your system) went through trauma. The concept of endogenic multiplicity is somewhat new in popular conception, and unfortunately psychology does not seem to have had a real look at it yet. Psychology’s lack of awareness does not make endogenic multiplicity invalid, but it does suggest that we presently do not have any stable, set-in-stone criteria for distinguishing DID/OSDD-1 from endogenic multiplicity. This is especially true if you consider that some self-identified endogenic multiple systems have members who have been through trauma (but see the trauma as unrelated to their multiplicity), and some DID/OSDD-1 systems believe the true source of their multiplicity came before the trauma or is somehow separate from it.

There are some situations where people have thought through their conditions and concluded that they fit neatly into the traumagenic or endogenic category. While this opinion is controversial among DID/OSDD-1 people, we believe it is possible for multiplicity to exist without trauma. That said, we imagine the multiplicity would look quite different from DID or OSDD-1. Many people we’ve met have experienced things that psychiatry does not quite account for, and they believe these experiences (and not physical or emotional trauma from this life and plane of existence) produced their multiplicity. Some say they co-incarnated with other spirits or are hosting walk-ins from other worlds. Others describe experiencing past-life trauma that split them on the level of the soul. We’ve also encountered people who believed that their multiplicity was a hard-wired neurodivergence rather than a developmental condition.

We don’t have any particular problem with non-traumatized people saying they’re multiple. However, we get worried when we see people claiming to be 100% trauma-free while showing symptoms and behaviors like:

  1. Black-out level dissociation.
  2. Difficulty communicating with alters that is significantly more intense than the struggle you had to get along with a fussy roommate in college.
  3. Serious walls or barriers preventing fluid communication between system members.
  4. Trigger responses to topics like sex, sexual abuse, genitals, members of a specific gender, certain relatives, child abuse, or other subjects that are commonly triggering to survivors of abuse.
  5. System members who seem like they stopped growing/aging/developing at a certain point in the body’s life.
  6. The presence of alters who deliberately emotionally, physically, or sexually harm other alters as if it is their job to stifle your progress and make your lives difficult.

Not every DID/OSDD-1 system will have these signs, but I sadly have seen many of these in certain endogenic systems I’ve encountered. If you are experiencing these things, the following are not conclusive proof that there’s no trauma:

“Between the five of us, none of us remember any abuse.” Basically the whole point of disorders like DID and OSDD-1 is concealing trauma. If you are sure there are exactly five people in your system and there is no one who suspects or remembers any trauma, then it might be reasonable to conclude that there isn’t/wasn’t any. However, there are a couple things to double-check for before you conclude that. First off, are you absolutely sure that you five are the only ones? If not, make sure you haven’t been neglecting any dark/foreboding/unpleasant parts of the system where members may have different stories than the ones you five know. Second, are you sure that members of your system cannot disconnect from certain unpleasant emotions, memories, or experiences without fully switching? Sometimes individual alters will split or simply lose touch with memories, feelings, and emotions in response to trauma. This can leave five separate people who are each convinced there is no trauma even though they all went through trauma.

“Sure, we were pretty unhappy as young kids, but nothing we experienced was ‘bad enough’ to count as abuse.” A lot of systems who say this eventually reveal that they were seriously emotionally abused, that they were neglected as young children (but not sexually abused), that they experienced sexual abuse they consider “less serious” than experiences they’ve read about on survivor blogs, that their parents hit them in a “normal” way, or that they went through something else shocking and personally violating like terrifying and painful medical procedures as young children, losing loved ones at a young age, etc. ISST-D says that DID can come from physical, sexual, or other trauma inflicted in childhood. This leaves a wide range of possibility for what could “count” as “enough” trauma.

“Our parents were good people.” Having good parents does not guarantee that you were not traumatized. Were you ever alone with people (of any age) who were not your parents? It is also important to realize that many dissociative systems have members who idealize their parents and other caregivers after dissociating from trauma. It’s not necessary to investigate your parents if you all feel there is no evidence that they physically, emotionally, or sexually abused you (and this includes times when it “wasn’t that bad” or “was normal” or when they claimed it was somehow your fault). It is, however, a good idea to make sure that you are safe.

“My therapist/dad/friend/cousin/psych professor/etc told me I seem normal.” This was one of our reasons for doubting there was early childhood trauma. It’s pretty common for everyone to think they’re an expert when it comes to other people’s trauma and health in general. However, even a therapist cannot know you better than you know yourself. If you are showing signs of trauma, it may be worth exploring those regardless of what this person thinks or thought.

We think it’s fully possible for multiplicity to be endogenic. However, we also know it’s possible for people to doubt or deny or even lose all awareness of their own trauma even while they are visibly switching or obviously getting triggered/otherwise being affected by trauma. Don’t let others tell you who to be or what to believe about your past, but also don’t discount the possibility of trauma if there are signs that it’s there.

You've mentioned "first principles" in a few of your "Traps for New Grads" posts. I'm wondering what that refers to. Is it a specific set of things or do you just mean basics like ABC (airway, breathing, circulation) type things? I haven't heard the term in American vet school so it might be regional?

First Principles are a set of mental tools that veterinarians acquire to allow us to treat every animal on the planet, including humans in an emergency. We study lots of different creatures in depth, but obviously we can’t study every single species and subspecies to the same level of detail, yet we are qualified to treat them medically.

The best way to explain them is this: When you are presented with your first Bunyip patient, you use your first principles.

For those non-Australians who may not be aware, a bunyip is a legendary monster of Australia reported to live around waterways. It has many descriptions that vary from one aboriginal peoples’ stories to the next, but this picture might be one fairly typical example:

You might be tempted to think ‘OMG I have no idea what to do!’ but you are in fact WRONG. You have lots of ideas about what to do, and how to figure out what’s required.

1. Is the species bilaterally symmetrical? If yes, then EXCELLENT, you now have a rough template for what it’s supposed to look like, so you can figure out what’s damaged or missing. A left front leg basically always looks like a right front leg so if you suspect trauma you have the other side to look at for a guide.

2. Speaking of trauma, it’s fairly distinctive. Disrupted tissues tend not to occur naturally, joint surfaces look different to fractured bone surfaces, cuts in skin look different to natural openings, regardless of the species.

3. Exoskeleton or endoskeleton? Is it ambulatory?

4. Where is it’s respiratory tract and is it functioning?

5. What sort of cardiovascular system does it have? Is it’s oxygen delivery system contained within vessels and is this disrupted?

6. Where are the digestive system openings, which one is which and are any not working?

7. Eyes: how many and are they responsive?

8. What external covering does this creature have, is it intact and does it identify it as mammal, reptile, bird, fish etc.

And that’s just from looking at the thing with the naked eye, before you get into any imaging of oxygen delivery fluid system analysis. These are basic ways of thinking that you can always revert to when confronted with a species that you don’t know much about, before you go diving into text books or veterinary forums.

Of course, this gets harder to apply to alien species, but your First Principles are still the best tools to get started.

I knew he was struggling. With everything going on with Mary and the British Men of Letters, he was sadder and more depressed. I could see he wanted to just let it rip, but he didn’t. He just did what he usually does, bottles it up. They had come home from a difficult hunt and I could see the tension in his shoulders.

He was sitting at one of the tables in the library, a glass of Jack in his hand. I wrapped my arms around his neck burrowing my face in his shoulder. “Go get a shower baby, and meet me in our room” I kissed his temple and went back to our room, getting things ready. I was going to show him how much he is loved.

The candles were lit, the music was playing and I had found some massage oil to help him relax. I heard the door open, stepping in looking at the scene in front of him. He shut the door and just stood there taking in the scene. I walked over and pulled him to the bed, asking him to lay on his stomach. He only had a pair of flannel pajama pants, his skin still moist from his shower.

I sat on his butt, and started massaging his back, working the tension out of his stiff muscles. I could hear him moan as I felt his muscles release the tension, suddenly, he shifted to where he was laying on his back. “How did I get so lucky?” I pressed my chest into his and ran my hands through his hair. “I wonder too how I got so lucky to have a man as amazing as you”

I started kissing his neck leaving love bites, I wanted him to feel my love for him. Let him know that I was here, always and forever. His hands traveled up my back, pushing my t-shirt up and yanking it off. The only barrier between us were his pajama bottoms, but those were quickly lost. He rolled me on my back, and was now fitted between my legs feeling his arousal rub against my hot center.

Before I knew it, he was slowly pushed in, connecting us together. We spent all night that way. Just being together, connected and in every way closer than ever. Since everything had happened with Amara and Chuck, Dean had been pushing me away. We hadn’t been this close in what felt like forever.

We fell asleep, holding each other like we both had something to lose. I had woken up and saw I was in bed alone, did I dream it or did it really happen? I was pulled out of my thoughts when the door opened. Dean had a tray full of food and two coffee cups in his hands. He set the tray in front of me and then sat next to me.

“Good morning honey” I smiled and kissed him sweetly “Good morning baby” The food tasted amazing and it was more special that he was with me eating as well and spending time with me. We decided to have a lazy day due to the multiple cases we had dealt with. It was amazing and what we both needed.

Both of us needed to reconnect and today was the day to do that. The entire day was lazy kisses and moaned ‘I love you’ to each other. It was about nine when Sam said he found out where Lucifer was hiding. I knew he didn’t want to go, but we needed to get him back into the cage. He kissed me with all the emotion he could muster and then they were gone. It was three days before I heard what had happened and I was not happy about it. Cas was beside himself when he told me what had happened.

During those lonely days, it was either research or being sick. I knew the possibility but how was I supposed to do this by myself. I prayed to Cas and he had confirmed my suspicions, he also informed me that I was four weeks along. That night I cried myself to sleep thinking I was going to be alone in this. It had been another week of anxiety, I knew it wasn’t good for the baby but I couldn’t control it.

Cas had finally explained what had happened and explained that him and their mother Mary were looking for them. I scoffed at that, of all the years that Dean and I had been together, I’ve known of his desire to have her back. But, when she left them to have space, Dean was crushed.

It had been about six weeks now, and I could barely eat anything without it coming back up. I knew it was stress, I missed my boys. I put my pajamas on, which consisted of Dean’s concert tee’s and his sweatpants. I snuggled into the couch and fell asleep watching an old western.

I felt myself being picked up and carried, I cracked my eyes open to see Dean carrying me to our room. “Dean?” I wrapped my arms around his neck sobbing and going to a panic attack. “Hey, it’s ok, shhhh” He held on to me tightly getting emotional himself. I heard our room shut, and then being set on the bed. “Dean where were you?” He sat down next to me and sighed a long sigh.

He explained everything in detail, trying not to stress me out even more. “Dean I have to tell you something” He had a panicked look on his face, and I quickly got him out of that thinking. “I’m pregnant” He watched me for what felt like an eternity, he finally reached out and caressed my barely there bump.

“Baby I’m so sorry things have been really stressful and I’ve completely shut you out” “I understand Dean, it hasn’t been easy but I understand” I could see he was exhausted so I grabbed his hand dragging him to the bathroom, he needed a bath to just relax and feel better. I locked the bathroom door and started the water to nearly scalding.

I put in my lavender oil and Epsom salt to ease the soreness in his muscles. I got in first, opening my legs so that he could get in and put his back to my front. “This isn’t going to hurt the baby, is it?” “No, it’s not! Just lay back and let me take care of you” I grabbed his body wash, massaging his muscles and getting the kinks out.

As the water started getting cold, Dean had almost fallen asleep. So, I had run my fingers through hair gently waking him up. We got out and quickly dried off and got into bed snuggling my back to his front with a hand on the small bump already forming. As I woke up the next morning Dean was still asleep a hand still on my stomach from last night.

I could feel my stomach churning again and bolted for the bathroom barely making it to toilet before my stomach purged everything again. I sat against the tub trying to catch my breath when Dean came in and sat down next me just holding as my stomach started to settle. “I hate morning sickness” He pulled me on his lap and kissed my fore head knowing he was powerless to stop it. “It’ll be over soon babe, I promise”

Another couple of months passed and the nausea got bad to the point of going to the ER just to see what was wrong. The doctor explained that it was a rare condition but I would be ok in the end. I had to stay a couple nights with an IV to get some fluids in my system, Dean stayed next to me the entire time, keeping me from going stir crazy. Sam would call and keep us in the loop about the situation of Kelly and her carrying the spawn of Satan.

Once I was released, I was given strict instructions on staying down and stress free. With everything going on, the library was the main place we had to be in. So, while I got released from the hospital Sam had bought an overstuffed couch and a few things so that I could be out there with the guys. We pulled into the bunker garage and I was beyond exhausted, so Dean carried me in and got me settled on the couch. I quickly fell asleep, hoping to get some sleep.

I woke up sometime later, seeing Dean sleeping next to me. His arms surrounded me in love and protection. I touched his face waking him up gently, “Baby, I’m hungry” “Anything for you love” This would be a difficult pregnancy but with Dean and Sam by my side I knew we could do anything. Life couldn’t get any better…

anonymous asked:

Do you think that Driders could ever actually be a thing in real life? Like if a scientist ever just got bored and wanted to slap a human onto a spider for... some reason?

Hang on, let me pull out my biology textbook for this…

Found it! So let’s begin!

The first problem one encountered when examining the anatomy of a Drider, is the nature of Arthropods.

Arthropods, including spiders, have open circulatory systems, which operate not by pumping blood through veins, but rather by pumping a blood-like substance into structured sinuses surrounding Organs.

They also have muscle structures anchored throughout their segmented limbs, which are again, supplied not by veins but by fluid pressure.

Mammalian circulatory systems, like humans, or Drow in this case, cannot function in an arthropod, which is where the issues start.

The dependence on fluid pressure to reach all those sinuses makes it impossible for a closed vascular system.

Similarly, an open system can’t really function in a ‘fleshy’ body, as characterised by all endoskeletal life.

Which means a Drider has to have 2 primary circulatory systems. A closed system for the upper body, and an open system for the lower.

These two would require a rather sturdy membrane to separate them, otherwise the structures in the upper body would have a tendency to slip into the less packed lower body.

The inefficiencies of an open circulatory system also means it would require a greatly expanded respiratory system.

On the plus side, things like nervous system, digestion, even endocrine shouldn’t require any real complication…

So what are we left with… Let’s start from the top.

Have you ever wondered why you always keep complaining about headaches, migraines, pimples in the face every other day? When you have any of these problems, the immediate thing on your mind could be - just rushing to see a doctor or consult any specialist. Now, it’s time you think it in terms of astrology. Each Zodiac Sign is associated with a different part of our body. The twelve signs cover the body from head to toe. Since Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, it is associated with head and Pisces being the last, it is associated with feet.

This knowledge of body parts - zodiac associations helps us in knowing about the weakest area in our body, which is more prone to injuries. And in accordance, we can pay more attention and avoid activities that may harm that area. We can take better care of that particular body part.

This is also of great use to medical astrologers in diagnosing problems of their clients. They use a person’s natal chart and give advice to the clients about the areas of the body in which they are most likely to experience pains and troubles. For example, Taureans are more prone to sore throats, stiff neck, under-active thyroid gland because of the Taurean association with throat and neck.
