Found in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia, these small birds are in the tanager family. They are often found in flocks of up to 30, sometimes including other species of small birds. Flowerpiercers eat nectar and small fruits. The slight hook at the tip of their bills allow them to puncture the base of flowers to reach the nectar directly.
