Valentine’s Day Part 2

“So, let me get this straight,” Alya said, leaning back against Marinette’s desk chair and steepling her fingers. Beside her, on a little table-cushion Marinette had made, Tikki slept soundly, having already heard the story a thousand times over. “You’re in love with Chat Noir.”

“You already knew that,” Marinette groaned from her chaise, hugging a cushion to her chest and leaning back like a Freudian patient. Lord knows she was about three sentences away from a therapy-inducing hissy fit regardless, so it was probably prudent of her to be lying down in such a way. She was preparing for her inevitable breakdown that’s all. It was the smart thing to do.

And she rarely did the smart thing nowadays it seemed, so she really needed this.

“You’ve been in love with Chat as Ladybug for like a bajillion years,” Alya continued, ignoring Marinette as she continued to rehash pointless details. Details which made Marinette want to bludgeon herself to death with her cushion.

It was most likely impossible to do such a thing but she was never one to back down from a challenge. Death by cushion- she’d find a way.

“Yes. We’ve already established that,” she replied through gritted teeth, said cushion slowly creeping up to cover her face.

“But last night you kissed him by accident,” Alya said.

“Uh-huh.”

“As Marinette.”

“That is correct sir,” Marinette wiggled a finger.

“And he gave you a rose and kissed you back.”

“Tru’ dat.”

It was indicative of Marinette’s deteriorating mental state that she’d said “Tru’ dat”. She’d never said “Tru’ dat” in her whole life.

“I see,” Alya nodded a few times. The fact her tone had remained neutral the whole time was doing nothing to help Marinette’s poor nerves, and so she swung her legs over the side of her chaise, sitting up to get a better view of Alya’s twinkling eyes. A sense of dread settled in Marinette’s stomach. Alya’s eye-twinkles were never a good thing, at least when they were directed towards her.

I see?! Is that all you have to say? Seriously?! I thought you’d be freaking out right now, I mean I’m freaking out but then I ALWAYS freak out. You not freaking out is making me freak out harder! Can you please freak out with me? Join me in the freak out zone already!” Marinette blabbed, waving her arms and promptly dropping the cushion to the ground.

Alya said nothing, instead choosing to raise an eyebrow at her and cross her legs. At least she’d stopped steepling her fingers, Marinette thought gruffly.

After a short pause, Alya finally spoke, but her voice wobbled and strained unnaturally, her lips thinned in a way that was entirely too suspicious. “Firstly, stop saying freak out, secondly I’m not freaking out because this is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.”

She barely made it to the end of her sentence before she doubled over and descended into giggles.

It was in that moment that Marinette realised Alya’s peculiar behaviour had been due to her hiding her amusement, and she felt fully justified in yanking the cushion from its position on the floor and hurling it towards her supposed ‘best friend forever.’

Unfortunately, Alya dodged the fluffy projectile with ease.

“Come on, this is serious! I’m in hot water here!” Marinette cried, crossing her arms across her chest.

“When are you not though? Let’s be real,” the redhead shot back with a wry grin, twirling in the chair and kicking backwards to check her hair in the small vanity mirror on Marinette’s desk. The sight made Marinette relax a little. Alya only checked her hair with such scrutiny when she was seriously contemplating something.

Suddenly missing the comforting embrace of the cushion, Marinette flopped down once more. As her back hit the large pillows adorning her chaise, she let out a long sigh and all the fear, the panic, the fight, left her in one fell swoop. Only tiredness and uncertainty remained.

“How am I going to face him?” she whispered. Her head tilted towards her small, round window, to the afternoon sun beaming down in a total antithesis to her feelings. She wondered where Chat Noir was at that moment.

Did she cross his mind?

Over the years Marinette had asked herself that question more times than she could count. But it was different now. Now she wondered if Chat thought of her, of Marinette, not of Ladybug. Did he dwell on it- how they’d kissed? She had. She’d thought about it all night, until exhaustion had finally overcome her and she’d woken up late, cold, wanting something she could barely comprehend.

For years, she’d thought about what it would mean to kiss Chat Noir, Dark Cupid incident aside considering she couldn’t even remember it.

A small, involuntary whimper left her when she recalled the night before. The kiss had been an accident… at first. But the second she felt Chat’s lips press into hers was burned into her memory, playing over and over again. The moment he returned her kiss had ignited something dormant inside her and she felt raw, emotions exposed and unlocked, with nowhere to hide.

She considered her question again. How on earth could she face him as Ladybug, knowing what she did, knowing him the way he didn’t know he knew her (and god wasn’t that sentence confusing in and of itself)?

For God’s sake Marinette, it was a peck of a kiss at the most, pull yourself together!

“You’ll figure it out.”

Alya’s voice sounded lightyears away, so stuck was Marinette in her own musings. She jumped, a little sheepishly, and realised she hadn’t noticed Alya coming over to her until the spinning desk chair was pressed right by the chaise. The next moment, Alya’s hands were in her hair. Having thoroughly fixed her own short curls, she now concentrated on the silky strands of Marinette’s loose locks, braiding little plaits as if they were children at a sleepover.

Marinette let her. Two perfectly groomed heads were better than one.

“You think you can talk to him about it? As you I mean, not Ladybug,” Alya suggested, quickly clarifying her meaning whilst tugging the red ribbons loose from Marinette’s dark hair.

Snorting in response, Marinette couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Talk? To Chat? The very idea…

“Yeah sure, let me just tweet at him Ayla. Hashtag balcony make-outs,” she giggled, feeling a little better as her hair fell around her shoulders.

Foregoing the braids, Alya reached up and began tying something new into Marinette’s hair, tutting in disapproval. “Slide into the DM’s at least girl, I raised you better than that.”

They shared a laugh, settling into a comfortable silence as Alya worked on both sides of her hair. Marinette sat back and mulled over her options. Truth be told she didn’t have many. She couldn’t talk to Chat, after all it wasn’t likely he’d be back and she had no idea who he was in real life. The notion that she could talk to him as Ladybug, thus revealing herself, made her rapidly descend into a panic so sharp that she quickly pushed that thought to the side.

Really there was nothing else to do but call it what it was. A blip. A crazy alignment of stars which had given her a taste of everything she’d wanted for the past four years, a reminder that it was probably all she was going to get.

She tried not to let the disappointment settle in her bones, yet it was fruitless. Her chest ached as though a hole had been carved there.

Suffice to say it was a familiar ache where Chat was concerned, but it was bigger now.

“There. Done,” Alya pulled back, pleased with her work, and Marinette stood. Stepping over to the vanity mirror, she leaned down to check her reflection. “Matching colours for you and the bae,” she teased, eyebrows wiggling from underneath her rounded glasses.

Marinette threw the cushion at her again, feeling a smug sense of satisfaction as it smacked her right in the face.

At the very least, she had the Gaming Club that night, that would provide a very welcome distraction.

***

Adrien was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Which was ironic, considering he’d joined the Gaming Club to avoid that exact thing from happening.

“I can’t do this, I’m going to cancel,” he whimpered, hiding out in the bathroom a floor above their usual meeting place like the coward he was.

“So cancel,” Plagg shrugged, busy amusing himself with unfurling a roll of toilet paper- as per his usual hobby.

“I can’t cancel!” Adrien replied, horror struck as he gazed at himself in the mirror. His fingers gripped the sides of the sink so hard that his knuckles turned white. “Are you insane?!”

“So don’t cancel,” Plagg’s disinterested monotone was really starting to grate on him. “Honestly kiddo what do you want me to say and will it get me food faster?”

The resounding groan from Adrien’s throat was so despairing in nature that he was afraid he’s start rumours of a ghost haunting the building. He leaned on his elbows, burying his face into his hands.

Stupid. He’d been so, so, stupid. And reckless! Totally reckless. What had he been thinking?!

It was worth it though, a small, unchecked part of him thought. Adrien squashed it flat in an instant. After all there was no time to consider the fluttering in his chest, the pleasant swoop of his stomach. Now was the time to face the consequences of his actions. His incredibly foolish, totally moronic actions.

Because, although a part of him ignited, burned in the best possible way, at the memory of Marinette’s lips against his own, another part felt thoroughly ashamed. It felt like he was tricking her in some way. Granted that had never been his intention. His plan had been simple. Leave the rose on her balcony for her to discover. She’d never know it was him and be happy at the gift from a secret admirer. Obviously, things hadn’t worked out the way he planned, though he should have anticipated that.

When had things ever gone the way he planned?

He needed to apologise to her, as Chat, and he was going to do so that night in fact. But before that Adrien needed to pretend, he needed to lie, to Marinette. To the girl he loved. He needed to act like he hadn’t heard her soft sigh, felt the warmth of her skin and the taste of her cherry-blossom lips. He had to fake it, act like it had never happened.

He had to pretend he didn’t desperately want it to happen again.

The idea of being so fake made him ill, and so he placed his hands under the cold water tap to splash his face, allowing the iciness of the water to penetrate his senses and offer him some much-needed clarity.

It didn’t really work but it was the best he could do.

When he entered the Gaming Club, Plagg tucked securely inside his jacket pocket, he was relieved to see Marinette talking to other people. He could barely look at her, the meagre glimpse he’d gotten from across the room had sent his heart cartwheeling down the corridor and somewhere into the next arrondissement.

Not wanting to look suspicious, and fully admitting that he was stalling for time, Adrien wandered over to the desk where Nino was hooking up an old Nintendo console for one of their signature Mario Kart nights.

Mario Kart…Marinette…partners… sitting close together… oh no.

“Hey bro!” Nino chirped, offering Adrien a fist to bump, clearly not noticing how the blood had completely drained from his friend’s face. “Everything ok?”

“H-hey! Everything’s good!” The first lie of the evening. How could Adrien have forgotten it was a Mario Kart night? More importantly, how was he going to survive the evening now? Sitting next to Marinette, shoulders pressed together, watching her tongue poke out in concentration like it normally did? How could he concentrate on anything knowing how close he’d been to said tongue the night before?

Grow up Adrien! You aren’t some horny teenager and Marinette isn’t a prize to be objectified. Show her some respect already!

If Nino had thought Adrien’s reaction was strange, he didn’t show it. Together they settled into an easy conversation, Adrien helping his friend set up the old console. Focusing on such a menial task did wonders for his nerves. He was almost starting to feel normal. Almost.

Of course, just as he was beginning to relax, Marinette had to tap him lightly on the shoulder.

She might as well have given him a 1.21 gigawatt electric shock, given his reaction to both was about the same. If he’d been Chat Noir at the time, his superpowers might have actually propelled him through the ceiling.

“A-Adrien?” Marinette tilted her head, taken aback by his startled shriek. “Are you ok?”

Subconsciously, Adrien’s hand reached up and he clutched his chest, fingers burying into his jumper as if it would cure the frantic beating of his wild heart.

Because she was there, right in front of him. Marinette. The girl he’d kissed last night.

His eyes flicked down to her lips before he could help himself.

“Adrien?”

The second time her voice permeated through his cloudy mind, something snapped inside of him. It was as if he were a character in a film, once played in slow motion, now fast-forwarding.

“Hey!” he cried, louder than he intended, and the people around him turned to stare. He looked at her eyes instead, with far more intensity than normal, mainly because he was so intent on not looking at her lips any more. “Marinette! It’s my friend- Marinette! My good friend, I’m good! How are you? You good- good? Yeah, I’m good, friend. How are you? Did you have a good Valentine’s day?”

WHAT?! Adrien’s brain-filter kicked in far too late, but began screaming at him nonetheless. Why would you ask her that? WHY?! You know how it went! YOU WERE THERE!

Marinette blinked, and it proved just how far gone he was that he found her blinking adorable.

Her blinking.

“Umm,” she blushed, unsure of what to say and, honestly, Adrien couldn’t blame her. He sounded insane even to his own ears, and he’d just asked her something quite private. Actually, he was surprised she wasn’t berating him for it. Then again, she thought he didn’t know about her encounter with Chat Noir.  His words may have seemed innocent to her ears.

What a mess Adrien had gotten himself into, and it only seemed to grow worse with every bit of word-vomit he expelled.

(Was it bad that he felt a tiny bit of pride at her blushing? Probably. But he was going to hell anyway so he might as well enjoy the slow descent at least a little bit.)

Tucking her hair behind her ear, Marinette glanced baffled at Nino, whom Adrien could see shrugging from his peripheral vision.

But he couldn’t care less.

Because he’d just noticed her hair. Or, more specifically, how she was wearing it.

In place of the red ribbons usually tied into her loose black locks, were two green ones instead. Vivid green. Chat Noir green.

His brain collapsed in on itself.

“I’m good-good too.”

Marinette was teasing him. She was grinning and she had green ribbons in her hair and Adrien was going to DIE.

“Good! That’s good!”

Great. He’d always wanted to die sounding like a partially strangled mongoose.

Marinette, mercifully, took pity on him and waved a controller in his face, offering him a place in the first race of the evening. He sighed, relaxing a little, but only a little. Gaming was fine. It was a welcome distraction, as long as he didn’t sit too close to her he’d be fine (who was he kidding? Of course he was going to sit close to her). At least, when he was focused on blue shells and Bullet Bills his brain couldn’t fixate on the meaning behind Marinette’s ribbons, if there was any hidden symbolism he was missing.

Suddenly the thought of seeing her that night, of apologising, seemed that much more dangerous- forbidden almost. But he had to do it. He owed it to her as her friend. Even if that’s all he could ever hope to be.

Nino still hadn’t finished setting up, and a few other members began helping him in their eagerness to get started. As a result, Adrien found himself more alone with Marinette than ever.

They sat down on the floor, controllers in hands, side by side. Their shoulders brushed, like they always did.

Adrien swallowed, wishing he’d worn a t-shirt instead of the woollen monstrosity currently overheating him.

He was fairly sure he was going to lose the game spectacularly.

His fears were proved right when, later that evening, Marinette’s knee brushed against his own and he ended up sending Donkey Kong careening off the end of Rainbow Road.

It was going to be a long night.

***

For the fifteenth time that evening, Marinette called herself an idiot.

Because she was an idiot. An idiot for standing on her balcony, an idiot for hoping lightning would strike twice in the same spot, an idiot for following her heart…

Tightly wrapping her cardigan around her, she gazed out into the mocking skyline. The bitterness of the cold February air was nothing compared to the bitterness she felt building up like sludge in her chest. Bitterness in her fortunes, bitterness in her decisions, bitterness in her own feelings.

Distantly, Marinette thanked the stars that at least it wasn’t as cold as it usually was. She was thankful she had a tiny shred of dignity left at least- that she wasn’t freezing to death in the vain hope that Chat Noir would show up again.

She reached up, fingers brushing against her lips, and remembered.

Furious with herself, Marinette shook her head, as if the rough gesture would expel all the unwanted memories from her mind. Honestly what was she doing acting like a silly sixteen-year-old with a crush? Again?! It was desperate, obsessive, ridiculous-

And totally in character if she was being honest with herself.

She needed a break. A breather. A respite from her own whirlwind emotions regarding the man in the black mask, the man who’d held her heart for longer than she cared to admit to anyone- not even Alya.

Stuffing her hands in her pockets, Marinette let out one last frustrated sigh before turning on her heels and making her way back to her room. Maybe her room would be less of a reminder, would save her from her torment.

But, as usual, fate had other plans for her.

Because, of course, Chat Noir happened to be standing there as if he’d suddenly popped into existence.

The shock of seeing him sent Marinette stumbling backwards with a cry, tripping over a flowerpot and tumbling to the ground.

“Whoa!” Chat called, rushing forward to catch her just in time. One hand gripped her flailing wrist, the other pressed against the small of her back as he pulled her towards him.

For a moment, both of them froze in place. Chat’s fingers splayed across her back, and she briefly felt the edges of his clawed-gloves scratching gently against the fabric of her cardigan. An involuntary shiver ran up her spine before she could control it.

Chat’s eyes widened and he stepped out of their half-embrace with awkward, jittery movements, casting his face away from hers. “Sorry,” he mumbled, scratching the back of his head. “Sorry I shouldn’t have startled you. I guess I have a bad habit.”

Bad habit huh? Marinette had one of those too.

The silence which settled on them both was heavy, uncomfortable, and borderline unbearable. It was laden with memories of the night before, swirling around them, echoing in their minds as though they were standing in an empty theatre, watching their mistakes projected on a screen with no means of escape.

Because it was a mistake… wasn’t it? She hadn’t meant to kiss him, he probably regretted kissing her back. That was why he was here- of that she was sure. To think he was here for any other reason was just asking for a broken heart.

But, oh god, it hadn’t been a mistake. Not to her. She couldn’t ever consider it to be such.

Finally, Marinette could take the silence no longer. Taking a deep breath, she fixed a smile onto her face, painted a picture of a girl who had herself together at least a little, and placed a hand on her hip.

“No rose tonight?”

Chat’s cat-ears twitched. He peered over at her with a puzzled frown before he realised she was teasing. Something dark crossed his eyes and Marinette forgot how to breathe. The look was gone before she could concentrate on it fully, and she found that he was smiling back at her.

“Err, n-no. No. That is- I mean- unfortunately not,” he replied with his signature bow. “But I do have something far more important.”

“Oh really?” Marinette squeaked, inwardly cringing at how lame she sounded. She’d wanted her voice to be sensual and teasing, but instead it sounded like she’d inhaled a ton of helium instead. Clearing her throat, she tried again, arching her eyebrow for good measure and all the while thrilled at the fact that he was simply there. Chat Noir was there. He’d come back to her. “What’s that?”

“An apology.”

Marinette’s blood ran cold.

“About last night,” Chat continued, shuffling from foot to foot, completely unaware of how Marinette’s body, mind, and heart had seized up all at once. “I feel like I made a terrible impression. I- well- I’m not the type of guy to do… what I did.”

From the depths of despair and panic, Marinette felt the faintest hints of confusion. She latched onto it. Confusion was better than rejection.

“What do you mean?” she asked, her voice small and vulnerable, wrapping her arms around herself.

“Well I’m not really a playboy or anything, despite what the media likes to speculate about me. I don’t kiss strangers on balconies. I guess, I didn’t want you to have the wrong impression about me.”

When Marinette hung her head, Chat felt a wave of regret wash over him. He’d practiced what he wanted to say, over and over again but it never seemed enough to fully explain himself- not without revealing to her that he was Adrien Agreste and he’d been lying to her this entire time. He was too afraid of the ramifications of that- so he needed to end this now- before he hurt her.

Damn it, he’d gotten so close though. So close to knowing what they could have- what they could be.

But it was a fantasy. Chat Noir was a large part of him, but it wasn’t all of him. The person he was behind the mask was locked away from Marinette, was a separate entity in her eyes.

Who was he fooling? They couldn’t be together. Not like this.

He had to try harder as Adrien and if she rejected him he would simply pick up the pieces of his broken heart. He would respect her, be her friend, move on, and certainly not use Chat Noir’s hero status as a means to trick her into loving him. She deserved better, deserved the world, even if he wasn’t the one to give it to her.

That’s why he had to leave. Right now. Being here, being this close to her, was crumbling his resolve. Every cute gesture she made was another step closer to his damnation. He had to leave before he said or did something he’d regret, before his principles were lost to the wind.

“It was Valentine’s day. I guess… it’s easy to get swept up in the romance of the day, right?” Marinette said. She was smiling, but the sparkle in her eyes was dulled somehow. Once again Chat’s attention was drawn to the green ribbons in her hair, as she quickly tucked a few strands behind her ears. He couldn’t bring herself to speak as she grew distant, deep in her own thoughts, and her shoulders raised. “But if we’re being honest Chat, I was worried you’d see me in a bad light too. Like- I mean- I’m not the kind of girl who kisses random celebrities and I’m certainly not the type to blab to the press about it either.”

“I didn’t ever think you were,” he uttered, swallowing thickly, and a little bit of sparkle returned to Marinette’s eyes. Her cheeks turned pink again.

Chat felt his claws digging painfully into his palms.

“Well… that’s a relief. I mean I always admired you,” Marinette stammered out the confession before she meant to, quickly covering her blunder with half-truths. “You know you saved me once- from an akuma. You didn’t notice me at the time, and it was years ago, but I never forgot.”

Chat felt as though he’d been physically struck by her words.

He’d saved her? He’d saved Marinette? And he hadn’t noticed her?!

“I wish I’d seen you,” he said before he could help himself. The rest of his desires remained unsaid, as new possibilities, new what ifs, formed in his mind- like an alternate reality.

Chat inwardly cringed. No way in hell was he going to get any sleep that night.

“I wish you’d seen me too,” Marinette admitted.

Chat’s hand was halfway to hers before he yanked it back, his heart beating wildly, his mind screaming at him to leave. The pull was almost tangible, magnetic, drawing him closer to her. It was dangerous, and he needed to leave.

“I hate to be a sundae, but I have to split!” he laughed, high and fake, all the while cringing at what was perhaps the worst pun he’d ever made. And that was saying something.

Marinette didn’t say anything, but laughed once.

Ok, she thought, maybe she was ridiculous, but he was equally so. Maybe that’s why she loved him so much.

She watched him make his way to the edge of the balcony and something stirred inside her, the raw feelings which had sparked when their lips had met woke from their slumber, and she reached out to touch his shoulder.

“Chat?” her voice matched the soft tremors echoing through her body, and she tried to remember to breathe. She couldn’t let him leave like this, she’d been so close. “How about…one last kiss?”

Chat stilled, statue-like. His lips parted, and Marinette panicked.

“I mean!” she corrected, face turning to flames, “I mean sorry that was dumb- so dumb. It’s just that I- I liked that kiss and I thought- I don’t know what I thought- but I wanted to-”

His lips crashed into hers, and the rest of Marinette’s sentence was lost forever.

Chat kissed her, kissed her with a resolve thoroughly destroyed and a heart so indescribably owned; owned by her, possessed by her, consumed by her. His hands were frantic, and Marinette matched him in every way as they pressed into each other. Her fingers gripped the back of his head, tangled in his hair, and pulled him closer.

Like he needed an excuse to get closer to her.

The pair of them moved apart to breathe, great shuddering breaths, and then their lips were together again- as neither of them could stand to be apart for a moment. Chat’s fingers slid from her hands to grip her hips, a primal, dark part of him triumphant as he heard a moan slip from Marinette’s mouth.

They stumbled backwards, towards the wall, and Chat pressed her against it, hands roaming her sides- never going too far- always listening to her reactions. Desire coursed through him, a need to please her, to make her moan again, without pushing too far.

She must have sensed him falter, sensed his caution, as a frustrated hum rose from the back of her throat, almost like a purr of her own. Her hands moved from his hair, gripping the bell around his throat, and she tugged him down towards her, kissing his neck.

Chat was having a hard time not passing out from that alone, but then she rolled her hips, making it so there wasn’t a sliver of streetlight between them, and he was fairly certain he died and was reborn on the spot.

Dangerous was the word whispering in his mind, the word he was ignoring as his hands cupped the sides of Marinette’s face, tilting her head back. She arched into him again, countering his movements like a dance, and he gasped.

It felt too natural, too perfect… almost…familiar.

Dangerous he thought as his tongue flicked against her lips.

Dangerous- he thought as her mouth opened and he was rewarded with another moan.

Stop. Stop before you can’t, he pleaded with himself as Marinette’s hands wrapped around his shoulders, her fingernails scratching against his neck.

He didn’t stop.

They kissed for what seemed like hours, passion moving from an explosive force to one of slow-burning sensuality, settling into a rhythm that was far too natural, but neither of them could bring themselves to mind.

It was a long time before Chat could bring himself to leave her, to stop kissing her. It was addictive, intoxicating, and filled with promise. For months his heart had been starved, yearning and wishing, and now it was real. Their kisses were real, her affections were real.

And so was her voice, ringing out in the coldness of the night, in answer to his question, “May I see you tomorrow night, Princess?”

There was a pause, both of them treading on thin ice, ice which slowly creaked and groaned beneath their feet.

“Yes,” she breathed, and the ice shattered, plunging them both into unknown depths.

Bump

Pairings: Steve Rogers x Reader

Warnings: overload of fluff !

Word Count: 1000

Summary: Steve loves your baby bump

Steve yawned loudly as he slumped into the Avenger’s kitchen, one of his hands rubbing tiredly over his eyes while the other swung a plastic bag from its grip. It was close to one in the morning and he was exhausted, having gotten up at close to the exact time for the last four days in a row. Not that he was ever going to complain about it, you were a whole lot more uncomfortable than he was while in the last stages of your pregnancy and anything that Steve could do to help ease that discomfort he was going to do it.

The last month had been the worst by far, it hadn’t agreed with either of you it seemed. You couldn’t get comfortable in bed, on the couch or anywhere, which ultimately meant that Steve had no rest either. On top of that your cravings had been through the roof, leaving Steve to go on midnight runs to grab the stuff you wanted.

Shaking away another yawn Steve placed the bag down onto the counter, startling a bit in surprise when he saw Sam leaning against the other bench, bottle of water in his hand and a smug smile on his face. He nodded towards the bag with raised eyebrows.
“What was it this time?”
“Salted crackers and peanut butter.”
“That’s not so bad,” Sam shrugged, taking another mouthful of his water.
“No, that’s not so bad,” Steve replied. “You should have seen what she made yesterday however.”
“Okay, what was it?” Sam chuckled.
“She made mash potato with chocolate milk.”

Sam laughed at that, the sound echoing around the quiet room while he ignored the unamused expression on Steve’s face.
“Are you serious? That’s - yeah okay, wow.”
“It isn’t funny!” Steve huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. “I thought she was going to cry when I told her I didn’t want any, I didn’t have any choice but to eat it and I’m telling you right now I’m lucky I didn’t throw the lot back up.”
“I’m so, so glad I missed out on that one.”

Steve was about to open his mouth and reply when he heard feet shuffling across the floor, his eyes meeting yours a second later as you walked into the room; one hand running back through your bed mussed hair while the other cradled your large baby bump. Your bottom lip quivered as you took a shaky breath, Steve in front of you in seconds, his hands rubbing circles across your shoulders.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“N - nothing,” You sniffed, leaning forward until you could press your face against Steve’s chest. “I mean - God, it’s so stupid.”
“Hey, it’s not stupid if it’s upsetting you.”
“It’s just that you weren’t - you weren’t there and baby Roger’s keeps kicking me.”

Request: Loved

Request: May I request Mary (season 12 reference) coming to the bunker with dean and meeting the reader (she is a relationship with dean and told his mother about her)? :)

Word count: 1,130

“Dean?” Your voice is barely a breath as you answer the phone, escaping as a transparent cloud on the cool spring air. It can’t be him – Amara and the bomb and Chuck and Rowena and… all of the jumbled, clouded images flit through your head at once and then disappear completely as he speaks again.

“Yeah, it’s me. Y/N, where the hell are you? Were you with Sam?” He cuts to the chase, and you quickly pick up on the panic in his voice – you’d know it anywhere on Earth.

“No.” There’s more shame in the word than you’d like him to hear – it wasn’t that you’d abandoned them. It wasn’t at all. It was more that the goodbye with Dean had been too much for you to bear, and you needed a few hours to be alone with your thoughts. The world may have been saved, but yours had been irreparably shattered, “And I’m about a mile away from the bunker. Probably less.”

“Good. Sam’s gone, there’s blood, and- and-“ His voice sputters and dies, “I can explain when you get here. Can you just…?”

You don’t have to pause, “Give me a minute. Maybe five.” You tell him, and then he’s ended the call – and that’s how you know it’s him, not some sick perversion like it was last time or a cheap imitation: there’s no goodbye, no ‘see you soon’. That’s it, it’s a given that you’ll be there.

***

“Dean?” The door creaks and clanks as you haul it open, gun in one hand. You creep down the stairs, not quite knowing what threat to expect, if any. However, by the time he’s taken three steps out of the war room, you’re on him, throwing your arms around his neck as the gun clatters to the floor and his arms wrap you up, strong and safe, lifting your feet clean off the ground. Dean buries his face into your shoulder, vaguely reminiscent of the hug you’d last shared – except this one is joy and relief, where the other had been sorrow and fear.

“God, Y/N.” His breath is warm and face scratchy and he’s alive. The last thing in the universe that you want to do is pull away, but when you finally open your eyes and look over his shoulder, you’re startled into pulling back.

A blonde woman stands behind him, watching you both with a mixture of intense confusion and affectionate amusement. You look from her, to Dean, and then back to her – for one, she’s wearing your shirt, and for another, she looks familiar in a way you can’t place.

“Y/N,” His arm remains tight around your waist, although he does let you back down onto the floor, “Meet my mom, Mary. Mom, this is Y/N.”

She quirks an eyebrow, and for a split second you realise that the mannerism belongs to Dean – many of her features do, in fact. It’s only then do you recognise her as the woman from the photographs Dean never has out of arm’s reach.

“This is Y/N?” She asks, and Dean nods in confirmation, smiling proudly – like this is a moment he’d always wished for; to introduce his girlfriend to his mother. Mary takes a slow step forward, looking you up and down – not scrutinising, but examining. Wanting to familiarise herself with you.

“You mentioned me?” You glance up at Dean, but his mother cuts in before he can even think of an answer.

“Oh, you’re all he mentioned. I was starting to think I’d had another child I didn’t remember until he specified that you were his girlfriend,” She smiles, and you can’t help but laugh a little at that, “Oh, Y/N, you’ll love Y/N. She’s so beautiful and smart and funny and…”

“Mom!” Dean interrupts indignantly, his face flushed red. Both you and Mary manage a laugh at that, despite the situation at hand – but the confusion and anxiety soon cloud her features again, and you look between the two of them for a few moments.

“Dean, babe, have you tried calling Cas? He came back here with Sam, and if that’s an angel-banishing sigil I see over there, he definitely was here.” You offer, lifting up to kiss his cheek before withdrawing, “Mary, I feel like you could use a cup of tea… milk and extra honey?”

For just a moment, she hesitates, looking between the two of you – and then she nods, relief flooding her features – an excuse to avoid the stressful situation for a little while, and to get her out of Dean’s high expectations so she can take a few breaths. You couldn’t be happier for him, but you know as well as anyone that he can be a bit of an overexcited puppy every now and again.

***

“So… you’ve done this before?” She asks, heaping more honey into the tea. You nod, giving a small smile and sipping your drink slowly.

“Once or twice. Sam and Dean have too, but we all lost count a few times ago.” At the look of horror on her face, you reach over and rest your hand over hers – the idea of her sons dying and coming back must be awful to her. Especially when her own experience of it seems to be going less than smoothly for her, “They always seem to come back. Dean always used to say it’s because angels were watching over them.”

Mary’s eyes widen slightly at her own words being echoed back from the mouth of an outsider, but she doesn’t seem to have the words of her own.

“There isn’t a day goes by when he doesn’t think about you.” You tell her softly, giving a small smile, “Don’t take that as pressure. But take it to know that you’re loved here, and always have been. I get it, fitting back in can be awkward. But I’m here, and so are Sam and Dean. And if you need to be stupid and quiet and go and get our nails done or do something menial, I’m always up for a girls’ day out.”

Again, she only seems to stare at you, and you fear that you’ve overstepped the mark – after all, you’re practically a stranger to her. But, instead, after a few moments, a wide, warm smile spreads over her face and her eyes wrinkle in exactly the same way that Dean’s do.

“I get it.” She says softly, her eyes twinkling, “I understand completely… what he sees in you. Why he loves you so much. Why you love him.”

All of those thoughts you’d had, growing up, about meeting your boyfriend’s parents and trying to impress them… this couldn’t be further from that if it tried. But you wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

Got His Attention(Barry Allen/Reader)

Hiii don’t know if you’re taking requests but if you are then could you do 15. “If we die, I’m going to kill you.”
50. “This is probably a bad time, but marry me?” With Barry Allen x reader; have a lovely day/night :)

You shook your head, “No. I can’t…”

“Y/N, this is the only way we’re going catch him.” Barry spoke into your ear piece.

“You want me to jump off a building!” You hissed putting you hand to the earpiece, “To catch a bad guy that can throw astral orbs at things and make them disintegrate on contact!”

“Well…yeah…when you put it like that it sounds bad…” Barry’s voice held a hint of amusement.

“Barry this isn’t funny!” You looked down the edge of the building again, “You know I’m not good with my ability yet…what if I fall?”

“You won’t fall.”

“What if I die?”

“You won’t die!”

“If I die, I’m going to kill you.” You heard him laugh finally, “I can’t be in the afterlife alone.”

“Y/N, you are not going to die…you’re are not going to fall. You’re going fly down the building distract him so I can zoom in and cuff him with repressors.” He explained, “And per your request…”

“Whew!” You looked behind yourself seeing Cisco emerging from the roof access door, “That’s…a lot of stairs.”

“Cisco?” You made a face, “What…are you…”

“Barry said you weren’t sure of yourself still.” Cisco smiled, “Despite the fact that you’ve passed all the test and shown amazing results…I have brought reassurance.”

You watched him pull some climbing equipment out of a bag and smiled, “…thanks Barr…”

“Of course…Sorry I didn’t have him there sooner. I’ll give you the go ahead once he’s there.” Barry spoke quietly.

“Alright…Hey Barry…”

“Yeah?”

“I love you.” You smiled as Cisco walked over with gear.

“I love you too, Y/N.” Your heart fluttered as the com went silent.

“You two make me sick…” Cisco told you as you strapped on the gear.

You smirked a little, “That was our plan all along. Be so cute, people throw up.”

“You both succeed very well.”  He clipped the rope to you.

You patted his shoulder as he went to go tie everything off. You looked  back over edge feeling your stomach twist into knots.

You could fly. You could fly distances… up, down, left and right…but you weren’t sure about free falling into it.

“Hey.” You looked over at Cisco walking over, “You’re gonna be fine, you’re gonna be great.”

“Thanks Cisco.” You nodded as the com chirp alive.

“He’s taking the bait, you ready?” Barry asked in his very down to business voice.

“Roger that.” You told him flexing your hands taking in a deep breath readying yourself for the plunge.

“Do your thing babe.” You smirked at his choice of words. It was something he only said to you when he had something great planned for later.

You launched yourself off the building feeling the air rush past you. You loved the feeling of flying. The weightlessness of it all. It felt free.

Your power kicked in right away and you floated down to the floor the meta was on. You stopped outside the window watching the man hold his hand up to a safe slowly disintegrating the door away. You pounded out the window getting him to stop.

He starred at you eyes getting wide his hand raising up as an orb began to form. You swallowed, “Uh…I got his attention…”

He launched the orb at the window making it shatter outward sending you back. You let out a scream as you flipped around losing control. You swung back as you ability kicked out. You felt the harness press hard against your hips as you fell into it.

You grunted in pain as you hit the side of the building a floor lower then you were supposed to be. You could hear crunching of glass  above you. You struggled to find a foot to push off if needed.

Finally Barry’s masked face popped over the edge and you relaxed, “How’s it hangin?”

You rolled your eyes, “Barry…”

He laughed a little, “Sorry couldn’t resist.”

“Please get me up, you know I can’t do this without a good push off.” Your foot slipped again on the glass.

“Well actually since you are just hangin around down there I have a question.” He squatted looking down at you with that awful wonderful smile of his.

“Barry, come on…” You whined.

“I know that this is probably a bad time, but will you marry me?” He watched you as you stopped trying to gain footing and look up at him, “Y/N?”

“Barry Allen…” You stared at him, “Pull me up right now.”

He swallowed nodding as he pulled on the rope. When you were close he grabbed your arms helping you over the edge, “Y/N, I just…I…we…”

He stopped when you slugged him hard in the shoulder. He made a face holding it when you grabbed his face kissing him, “Yes…”

He blinked a few times, “Yes?”

You smiled, “Not exactly how I wanted to be asked, but…it’s you…so yes.”

“Yes…” he grinned pulling you into an embrace before kissing you again.

You giggled when he parted from you, “I love you Barry Allen, but you…need to get that guy in a cell.”

He looked over to the guy passed out on the floor, “I…yeah…Meet you at the Lab?”

“Of course.” You winked at him as he whizzed off in a blur. “Y/N Allen…wife of the Flash…it’s got a nice ring to it…”

Ethan Nestor was not a cat person. Sure, he thought they were cute, thought they were soft. Yet, if there was any other type of dog in the room, he would immediately make a b-line for it. He loved Chica to bits, hugging her and petting her as much as possible. In a way, it was his way of remembering his dogs back home. He missed his two best friends, Max and Dexter, more than anything in the world. His love of dogs was something everyone knew. Many times, the team would lose track of Ethan just to find him curled up on the floor cuddling the golden retriever, or even taking her for random walks if she needed it. It was a precious relationship they had.

Until one day, when Ethan walked through the door, Chica immediately ran up barking loudly. Ethan jumped, surprised by her sudden attack. Never had Chica ever been so hostile with him, so aggressive. A large blush covered his cheeks, embarrassment dusking face and neck.

"Chica! China, no! No barking!“ Mark approached Chica, forcefully pulling his dog away from the red faced editor. Amy was quick to rush over, pulling Ethan in the other direction.

"Ethan? You okay?” The boy only nodded, quickly brushing himself off as if trying to get rid of something.

“What happened?” She asked as Mark approached them.

"I don’t know. I’ve never seen her act like that before.“ As if coming to a realization, Mark slowly looked to Ethan out of the corner of his eye, who was still rapidly sweeping his hands over his clothes. "The last time she did that, was when Katherine brought her cat home for the first time." Ethan completely froze, a small grimace twitching his lip upwards. "Chica doesn’t take to nicely to cats .” Amy quickly turned to Ethan, her eyes wide. Ethan? With a cat?

“Ah! See, no. Not what you’re thinking. I was just, uh. When I was walking from my car, a cat came up next to me. I pet it for only like a second. Ha. Wow, Chica has a really strong nose. What a smart dog!” And that was that.

Ethan immediately threw himself into editing, only talking when absolutely necessary. He fumbled over things, dropped his headphones more than once, and even walked right into a chair. Everyone was concerned. Was he okay? Never had they seen the blue boy act so strange, and that was saying something. Ethan was the first person out the door that day. Granted, he was one of the first to be there, but rarely had anyone seen Ethan leave that fast. He had finished all his work, so why did Mark find his actions suspicious.

The next day, Ethan was back. He walked in with his usual swagger, greeting Chica with a smile and a pat before plopping down at his desk. He waved hello to his friends, cracked jokes, and even was willing to film a video with Mark and Tyler. Mark couldn’t help exchanging looks with Amy, confusion pushing his eyebrows together. Had yesterday just been an off day? Did he completely imagine it? Despite Ethan acting like his usual self today, Mark couldn’t help the nagging feeling that lingered.

His confusion only raised as weeks past and Ethan’s behavior only began to get stranger. Somedays, the blue boy would come in with a large smile, happily bouncing all around, nothing fazing him. Others, he would come deflated, like he was upset but no one could figure out why. Well, not everyone. Ethan and Katherine only seemed to get closer as Ethan’s behavior became more sporadic. They would sometimes be found in the small kitchen, whispering quietly to each other, but as soon as anyone entered, they would break apart and continue whatever they were doing silently. Other times, they would leave together, claiming they were carpooling, despite the fact that they lived in complete opposite directions, and brought their cars that day. The rest of the team couldn’t help but get more and more suspicious. It was Pam who suggested maybe they had started dating, but wanted to keep it a secret incase it didn’t work out. Based on what they had seen so far, no one had disagreed, and a pact was made. They would give Katheryn and Ethan as much space as they wished, and no questioning them. They would tell the group when they were ready.

Nearly a year had passed, and now Mark was getting angry. If Ethan and Katheryn were actually dating, they would have told them already, surely! He started huffing, pacing back and forth. Amy sat across from him, lounging on his couch.

"I just don’t understand. Do they not trust me?“ Mark started pacing faster, rubbing his hand through his hair. Amy sighed lightly. Mark did have a point. Amy thought that Katheryn was her friend, her best friend. They always told each other everything, even the gross stuff that should have been kept to themselves.

"I don’t know, Mark. But I trust Katheryn. If she hasn’t told me yet, there has to be a reason. Maybe they want to be super sure before they tell us. It is a big deal after all. Mark sighed, pacing back and forth for a few more seconds before giving up. He plopped himself beside his girlfriend, laying his head in her lap. Sighing one more time, he crossed his arms.

"But I wanna knoooooow.” The childish response pulled a laugh out of the blonde woman. Leaning down for a quick kiss, Amy pressed play on the movie they had had queued up a few minutes ago, relaxing into their Sunday night plans.

Another month or two passed, the group now settling the idea that Katheryn and Ethan were dating. Now, it was a waiting game. When were they going to tell them? And just like that, the bets began. Tyler had guessed within the next two months. Pam had said within four weeks. Amy had said in the next two. And Mark, ever the optimist, said by the end of the week.

However, as the week passed, as Friday quickly approached. On the day in question, everyone had gathered in the editing room, passing glances to each other. The only people missing - Katheryn and Ethan. Mark was getting more and more excited. Today was the day. It had to be the day. Mark’s excitement only grew as Kathryn quickly rushed into the room, a bright smile on her face.

“Guys! Ethan really wants to see you at the front door.” Her smile pushed her cheeks into her eyes, but it didn’t seem to die down, even though it was starting to look painful. She quickly waved her hand, beckoning them to follow her. And they all did, almost too excited. Despite her confusion to their eagerness, she pushed them forward, crowding them into the small entrance way of the office. Ethan was already there, nervously bouncing on his toes. He smiled sheepishly as they finally arrived.

"Hey guys.“ He scratched the back of his head, looking to the ground. "Listen. I know I haven’t been the most discrete the last few months, but I have a really good reason."

"Ethan. We already know.” It was Tyler who had spoken. Mark was quick to retaliate, shoving his elbow into the taller man.

"What? No, no we don’t. Continue, Ethan. You were saying?“

"Wait.” It was Katheryn now who stepped forward. “You know? For how long?” Amy looked at her guiltily.

“A year."

"A year?!?” Ethan shouted in surprise. His stomach twisted into knots. A year. They had known for a year. He could have avoided all of this sneaking around, all the secrecy, for a year. He felt deflated now, but almost relieved.

“I’m so sorry Ethan!” Amy spoke again, stepping forward. “We really wanted to ask about it, but we wanted you to do it on your own terms.” The genuine smile that crossed his features made the rest of the room smile just as easily.

"You guys are the best. Well, not the best. Could have saved all this secrecy and panic, but I’m glad you all know now.“ Ethan smiled again, now more excited than nervous. "I’ve been waiting all year to tell you. I really wanted to do it sooner, but I knew I wanted to be absolutely sure before I introduced you to her.” This caused the room to gain an air of confusion. Meet? But they all knew Katheryn already…unless…

"Wait! You’re not dating Katheryn?!?“ Pam practically shouted this, pointing accusingly between the two parties. In an instant, both Ethan and Katheryn had looked at each other for a second before shouting loudly in disgust.

 "What? No way in hell!"

"I mean, no offence to Katheryn, but no way!” Before anyone could get any louder, a single hesitant tap on the door caused the room to fall silent. The disgust that once covered Ethan’s face was replaced with excitement. He wasted no time throwing open the door, a new comer standing just at the threshold. In a very three stooges fashion, the team had all lined themselves up to get a glimpse of this person, the person who was in fact dating Ethan and wasn’t Kathryn. Ethan swopped down with no doubt in his mind, claiming her lips in a sweet kiss. She smiled brightly, returning it quickly before being allowed to step through the door. She smiled at the group, scanning her eyes over one before giving her brightest to the one familiar face in the room.

"Hello! It’s very nice to finally meet you all. I’m (Y/N).“

 Extra

The group was now walking down the street, heading to their favorite lunch spot. (Y/N) followed in tow, her hand clasped tightly in Ethan’s. They were lagging far behind the others, trapped in their own world, occasionally stopping to admire the view, or share another quick kiss. "I just don’t understand.” Amy said, turning her head to look at the shorter brunette. “How do you know (Y/N)? And what was with all the secrecy?” “Oh!” Katheryn almost looked guilty, looking to the floor before meeting her friends eyes. “Remember when we went to see that movie? The really cheesy one with the dead girl?” Amy nodded in recognition. “Well, when I was headed to the bathroom half way through the movie, I spotted Ethan at the ticket booth, hand in hand with that girl. And he saw me too. He quickly panicked, and made me promise not to tell anyone. They both wanted to go slow, didn’t want to be pressured by their friends.” “But that still doesn’t explain why Chica’s was acting weird around him.” Mark said ahead of them, turning to walk backwards to join the conversation. Kathryn laughed lightly. “That’s the day I caught them. That night, Ethan slept over at her house. She has the most adorable cat in the world. Oh my god, you guys need to meet her. She’s so sweet.” And thats how the cast and crew of Markiplier ended up at your house, Chica and your precious cat alternating sitting people’s laps, laughing and getting to know you. You were so lucky your boyfriends friends were so kind. You shared a smile with Ethan, leaning over to give him a sweet kiss. Yep, you were definitely very lucky.

When you’re struggling, sometimes a helping hand is appreciated.

Caution: smut ahead.

You took a heavy breath as the usually busy lunch hour dwindled down. The once packed restaurant had gone down to less than eight patrons. And only one was in your section. “So much for paying those loans,” you sighed feeling slightly defeated.

You perked up at the sound of the bell on the door ringing. You glanced at the door sending a large smile at the familiar face of your favorite costumer, Himchan. He was always good to you, both as a person and in tips. A friendship formed quickly between the two of you. It didn’t help that you found him insanely handsome.

You made your way to his table, taking a seat across from him to give your sore feet a rest. “Howdy stranger,” you greeted.

He gave you his usual charming smile,“Hello beautiful. Anything good on the menu?”

“You always ask that, yet you always get the same thing.”

He chuckled, “Do I?”

Lovers of Books [Jason Todd x Reader]

Requested by @memento-amare: “How about reader and Jason meet in a bookstore and bond over similar taste in books? Just a note the “friends to lovers” trope would be really cute here, but I am gonna leave that up to you lol“

_______

It’s a true statement to say you’re an avid book lover. Fiction, Non-Fiction, Historical, you’ve read every genre. Though your favorites being classic Literature. You couldn’t get enough of it. So your parents owning a book store was a god send.

Except for when they were out of town, leaving you to tend to the store and it’s customers, most of those being regulars. Very rarely you’d get someone new to visit your parent’s quaint corner bookstore.

It made things rather boring, especially now.

Leaning against the counter, chin resting in your hand whilst re-reading your personal copy of Pride and Prejudice. Hearing the bell above the door ring you called, “Welcome to [L/n] Family Books, if you need anything feel free to ask” not bothering to look away from the page.

Completely unbeknownst to the handsome, blue eyed, six foot, raven-haired male to just enter the store.

He went on about his business skimming the shelves as you continued on with reading about the flaw that is Mr. Darcy’s pride. Stuck in the book until you were lured away by a deep voice.

“Excuse me” eyes flickering up from the page to meet stunning blue hues. “Oh, uh, sorry.” Setting the book down. “What can I do for you?”

“Don’t worry about it. Do you know if you have any Hemingway?” Shocked a bit at the author. Not many people around his age, which must be close to your own, read the legend unless they were assigned too. “Oh yes of course” stepping from behind the counter.

Heading to the Classic Lit section. “Anything in particular?” you glanced back at him. “Yeah, The Sun Also Rises?” he questioned.

“Ah, a good choice” you smiled stopping in the front of the bookshelves. “You’ve read it?” he inquired.

“I have, I was surprised to hear you request Hemingway. I don’t normally get requests for it for people under 40.” You chuckled.

“Looks like we’re both two of a kind then” he smiled. You reached up slipping the book from it’s place. “I guess so” handing it to him

“Awesome” he smiled whilst skimming the first page. You took the moment to get a full look at him. He had to be at least six foot, and his arms were huge! Damn he looked solid. Eyes immediately catching the white streak that ran in the front of his hair. You couldn’t help but wonder if it was natural.

Realizing your staring you blushed before saying, “I can ring you out whenever you’re ready” making your way back to the register.

“Thank you, uh” he paused where a name would be. “[F/n]. [F/n] [L/n]” holding out a hand.

He took it, “Ah, [F/n]. I’m Jason. Jason Todd”

You smiled before retracting your hand and returning to your own book. Once he was finished he found two more books and came over. You were impressed by the roster. Devil in the White City, The Sun Also Rises, and Martin Dressler.

“Oh wow I love this book” You commented picking up Devil in the White City. “Really no way! I had to get a new copy of it my brother spilled his coffee on it.” He laughed, a genuine smile gracing his face.

“Oh my god I would commit murder” You laughed totaling up the books. “Trust me I came close, my other brothers had to hold me back when he told me” You laughed, not realizing how true the statement actually was.

“Well your total is $21.09“ you smiled as he pulled out his wallet. “I’m going to have to come back here, usually I’d be paying like $30 for three books” handing you the money. Putting it in the register and giving him his change. “You should, it’s not often we see new faces. Everyone has gone online but I don’t get how you can enjoy a book without paper”

“I know right. But I really should go before my family thinks I fell down a well. It was nice meeting you [F/n] I hope it’s not the last time” taking yhe bag before sending you a charming smile. “I hope that too” smiling back before he made his leave.

And it was indeed not the last time you’d see Jason. He started by visiting once a week, then it was twice, then it was every other day. He really had taken a liking to the store and you guys became friends by bonding over books. Often recommending books for the other, you had even helped him pick out a book for someone named Alfred who’s birthday was that week.

Every time he came in when you were there you’d always insist on helping him even though your parents offered.

And today was no different. You were doing some re-stocking in the back when you heard the door chime. “Good morning Mr. and Mrs. [L/n] is [F/n] here today?” he asked coming to the counter.

“Good morning Jason, Yes –” your mother began but you emerged from behind the curtain. “Good morning Jason” you greeted with a smile. Your parents chuckling at the timing. They were well aware of your feelings toward the man, able to tell the first time they saw you helping him.

“Well we’ll leave you both to it. We’ll finish your restocking” Your father smiled before retreating into the back room with your mother.

“So what can I do ya for today?” grinning at him. “Hemingway? Shakespeare?”

“Uh I’m actually not here for books today“ Scratching the back of his neck nervously.

“Really, what’s up?“ Face contorting into one that of confusion. “I was actually wondering when your lunch break was?” not meeting your eyes.

“Oh” feeling a heat rise to your cheeks. “It can be really whenever” smiling at the ground. Both shy like a couple of teenagers.

“Well uh, would you like to, um” meeting your eyes. “God why am I nervous I feel like I’m in high school” he laughed as you did the same. “Okay lets try again. [F/n] would you go to lunch with me today? You know, like a date?”

You blushed before bashfully smiling at the floor. “I’d love too” meeting his eyes again.

“Great, would you like to go now?” he asked gesturing to the door. “Yeah, sure. Let me get my coat” turning and going behind the counter. Slipping you jacket on and grabbing your bag.

Poking your head in the back room, “I’m taking my lunch break be back soon!” yelling to your parents. “Okay sweetie have fun” your mother called back.

Meeting Jason’s side again he offered you an arm, “Shall we?”

Grinning you linked yours with his, “We shall”
