LotF Character Eye Color Headcanons and also general blathering about it

Jack Merridew: The only character with a canon eye color that’s emphasized twice; a bright but pale blue. They’re wild, intense eyes; some might describe them as frosty in hue, but a more apt comparison would be a jolt of blueish lightning. In all his school pictures they’d turn out a very light grey, which gives him a strange, otherworldly look. I feel like adults back home would tell him it’s his best feature.

Ralph: A warm, orange-y brown. Something about them draws you to them, like burning embers tempt a moth. They comfort, strangely. They also compliment his look very well– golden hair and copper eyes, sculpted from the finest materials.

Simon: Described in the book as having eyes “so bright they had deceived Ralph into thinking him delightfully gay and wicked”. Personally, I like to view them as hazel, the sort that start out from the pupil with streams of gold that flow into greens, like a polar panorama of a deep forest in the early morning.

Piggy: They’re difficult to make out beneath his thick lenses, but they’re gray. His eyes are steaming cauldrons of molten metal, constantly brimming and bubbling with practical knowledge, waiting desperately to be poured out and used.

Roger: Dark brown, nearly black. Like a deep, mysterious, unknowable void that you can only glance at for a second before getting paranoid about what’s waiting in the darkness for you.

I drew this months ago but was very afraid of posting it .. The idea of older Lance being the next leader of Voltron hunted me since I watched the first few episodes of the first season. Skin damaged by the sun, bags under eyes of living nightmares and sleeping dreams, lips peeled out of stressing on them and hard, green eyes that have given up on coming back home but still a stare so raw with life Lance says believe in me I’ll save us and Keith just does

(I guess Lance makes true that thing of courage not always roaring, sometimes it only being a matter of trying again tomorrow).

Our Pet Monster

TW: Mentions of Pedophilia

When we moved to Pine Drive, I never expected to find a conspiracy among the kids there.

I was an only child and a loner, thanks to my parents always moving. My dad’s job had him hopping from state to state. It was a pretty tough going if you wanted to make friends. But he promised that we’d stay at least six months here, so I had a chance to make at least one friend.

And whadya know, on my block, there were a ton of kids to make friends with.

I didn’t even really have to try. Two days after moving in, the Langley twins Diana and David were pounding on my door, asking who owned that bike parked in the front yard and if they wanted to play. I was shy but the twins were ecstatic to meet me.

Apparently their group had an odd number before I moved in and they needed equal teams to play their games with.

There was Alicia, who was six, she was the baby but she was very sweet. The oldest was Fletcher who was thirteen but his social skills were a bit behind so he didn’t mind hanging out with a bunch of nine and ten year olds. I think there was about ten of us all in all.

But I learned soon enough that there was a secret each of them shared.

“Contact Lens” by Haruka Kojin

“I was on an express bus, looking at the pavement which passed my eyes at a high speed accelerated by the car engine. Looking still for some time, my vision automatically focused into a grainy surface of the pavement – appearing enlarged in my eyes.  I do not entirely rely on my visionary sense because my eyes are spheres having limited sensitivities. What if my eyes have rectangular pupils? Another world-view will then be my reality. Imagine how insects with facet-eye like flies or birds view the world? The birds can capture an ultraviolet ray invisible to human, so they must have their own version of reality unique to their visionary sense.” - Haruka Kojin

Here at the Scientific Pokedex, we like dealing with scientifically-proven facts. Here is one such fact for you: Cutiefly is flippin’ adorable.

This is one of those rare pokémon that’s straight-up ripped off from our world. Cutiefly is the “Bee Fly” pokémon, and Bee Flies are the Bombyliidae family in our world:

Bee Flies are in fact flies, not bees. They are also fuzzy and adorable. Like bees, they feed on nectar and pollen. Looking like a bee works to their advantage: bee flies will infiltrate bee nests, eating the bee’s hard-earned storage of nectar and honey. They also eat the bee’s eggs, replacing them with their own bee fly eggs for the bee mom to raise unsuspectingly.

The pokédex states that Cutiefly can “sense auras” of flowers, and because of that can they tell which flowers are about to bloom. Usually when a pokédex entry mentions the word “aura”, things start to slip scientifically. In Cutiefly’s instance, this is not the case at all: real bees (and bee flies) have special eyes that show them a lot more about flowers than we can see.

Human eyes, as you might know, can only detect a small wavelength range of light. All other kinds of light–infrared, radio, microwave, x-ray etc. – are invisible to us. This is not the case for bees (and bee flies): A bee’s eye can see a different wavelength range than us, and therefore they can see more “colors”. Specifically, they can see farther into the ultraviolet:

Flowers are colorful enough as they are to us, but it turns out flowers are even more colorful in the ultraviolet. Specifically, flowers “light up” close to the center: basically a big neon sign saying “the nectar is right here!” for creatures that can see it. Here’s a few examples of what flowers might look like to Cutiefly:

Beyond this, bees can also sense electric fields. Pollen has a slight negative charge to it which creates an electric field, so when a flower has a lot of pollen it will light up even more on a bee’s radar. A flower has a lot of pollen when it is in full bloom and hasn’t been visited by a bee yet. With this, bees can “sense” when a flower is in its prime, just as Cutiefly’s pokédex entry suggests.

Cutiefly is a Bee Fly, with special eyes that can see ultraviolet light. Because of this, Cutiefly can sense when a flower is rich in nectar and pollen.

The mission had drained you; Covered in bruises and dried blood, there had been too many agents and you cursed your lack of backup; You were sorely outgunned, but you had gotten the intel that you needed., It wasn’t uncommon for you to be sent on solo missions, your powers and skill set affording you the privilege of never really being the underdog, so while it was sometimes tricky, you usually came out on top.

Stepping out of the quinjet and into the hanger, you hurriedly make your way toward your shared bedroom with Bucky, relishing the thought of a hot shower and a night in his arms.,You missed him terribly while you were away., Things had been strange, distant between you of late,Your sex life had dwindled down to zero. He had refused to talk to you about it, and you were genuinely worried about the state of your relationship with the super soldier. Chalking it up to, too many missions and not enough quality time, you swallow your fears and with renewed vigour, strode through the compound looking for the man you love.

Nearing your bedroom, you can hear soft moans filtering through the door. You stop, listening intently, straining your already taxed senses. “Bucky,” you hear Natasha gasp, and your hand flies to your mouth; eyes wide with shock. As you gently open the door, fighting down the rise of bile in your throat, you can see Bucky moving languidly on top of Natasha, hand wrapped around her throat, her back arching off the bed, as he fucks her in a way he hadn’t with you in a very long time. Red hot flaring anger replaces the horror in your chest.

“Having fun?” you say loud enough for them both to hear. Bucky’s movements stop almost instantly, his head whipping around to stare at you with mouth agape. Natasha pales, lips opening and closing, searching, apparently, for a way to justify betraying her best friend.

“(y/n)” Bucky says as he pulls out, both of them scrambling for clothing. “I can explain,” he starts.

“Oh spare me the ‘I can explain’ bullshit, Barnes!” you spit, eyes blazing red with power. He flinches visibly at the use of his last name. “I do not want to hear your flimsy excuses. Just get your shit out of my room and leave. Both of you. Now!” You turn to leave, desperately needing to get out, get away from him. From her. From this place. From the people you have given up everything for.

“Wait!” Bucky yells as he catches up with you, grabbing you by the arm. He spins you around, and you try yanking your arm away, shoving at his chest to dislodge him. “Listen,” he hisses, grabbing your free wrist with his metal hand, effectively cutting off your assault. “I’m sorry, it just happened,” he states weakly.

“It just happened,” you echo duly. “How did screwing my best friend just happen, James?” Your anger is mounting, overtaking the pain in your chest by miles, but he doesn’t seem to recognise the danger because he forges on.

“She was there when we started drifting apart. She always had a way of pulling me back from the edge. I just… I need her,” he sighs. “Please understand. I love ya, doll, I do, but Natalia…”

You’re dumbstruck. Feelings of worthlessness worm themselves into your mind, testing your already fragile control, and he seems completely oblivious to your internal struggle.

“I think I’m in love with her…But i’m still in love with you too. Please… I just… I made a mistake,” he says, rather uncertainly.

“Then let me make it easy on you, Barnes,” you sneer as you unleash your power, divesting yourself of his hold. “If you ever put your hands on me again, I will kill you,” you state simply as you advance toward him. Held up by your power, Bucky is flailing in mid-air. “If you ever look at me again, I will cut out your eyes and feed them too Natasha,” you say as you slam him against the wall. “If you ever say my name again I will cut out your tongue and leave it for Steve to find,” you forge on as tears spring unbidden to your eyes, trying frantically to regain control of yourself. “I loved you, gave you everything I could, James, and you ripped it all away from me. Everything I held dear with no thought of what it would do to me,” you whisper as you release him, and watch while he falls heavily to the floor. You turn to leave, seeking any reprieve from the hell you seem to have walked into, only to see Natasha standing in the doorway looking pale and strained.

Ignoring her completely, you focus a final time on Barnes and murmur, “Maybe you are the monster you think you are, James.” It’s the last thing you say before you climb onto the elevator, listening as he breaks down on the carpeted floor.

The elevator ride is the longest you had ever endured, and you pray that you can make it to Tony’s lab without turning into a sobbing mess. You are barely keeping tumultuous control of your emotions, fighting your very nature, your very urge to cry, to sob, to scream. But you can’t. Not yet.

When the elevator doors pings open, you step unsteadily out, and make a beeline for the billionaire’s lab. Barely able to pay attention to your surroundings, you ignore the calls of your name from fellow agents, desperate to get to Tony. You need to get out of here, and soon, before you breakdown.

Throwing open the door to Tony’s lab, you call out gently, receiving an affirmative response, followed quickly by the man himself. “What’s up, sugar?” he asks.

“I need a few days,” you reply.

He quirks an eyebrow. “A few days for what?”

You sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. “T, I really can’t explain right now,” you say, heaving in a breath. “I need you to let me do this, please,” you beg, while he eyes you warily.

“What does the tin can have to say? Is he going with you?”

You hiss at him, “No, he will be staying right fucking here, far away from me.” Tony has the good sense not to question you further, agreeing to give you three days off, but only if you check in once a day. You agree without hesitation and finally take your leave of the compound, making your way to the apartment you keep in the city.

Fifteen minutes later, you step into your apartment, stripping off the combat suit you’re still wearing. As you head for the shower, you pay no mind to the framed photos of you and Bucky that seem to shatter as you pass, until you can finally let the hot water cascade over you. Letting the bottled up emotion spill over, you scream desperately at nothing, praying for some sort of reprieve from the pain that’s coursing through you.

How could he? How could he do this to me? Sobs racking your frame, you slide down to the floor, curling yourself into a ball beneath the spray. Why wasn’t i good enough? What’s wrong with me?

Self-hatred prevalent in your mind, you cry for what feels like hours before you finally find the energy to pick yourself up, dry yourself off and climb into bed, hoping that when you wake, this would all just have been a bad dream, and Bucky would still be here with you.

Another Look Around (Gaston x Reader)

Early mornings in your small village of Villeneuve were something of a dream. The soft lavender skies were yawning off the dawn and blossoming into day, a thin, swirling mist drifted above the rooftops and over the distant hills, setting the entire scenery in a hazy, enchanted state. The smell of fresh bread being baked and the aroma of the floral shops wound through the cool air like an intoxicating perfume.

The premature breeze on your face and the fresh, dewy air was enough to make you beam despite the morning hours. You closed the front door carefully behind you, not wanting to wake your sleeping family and slipped down the steps and through the small gardens that flourished in front of the house.

The clicking of your boots on the cobblestone was a solitary noise. One of the few other sounds present were the quiet songs of the rising birds, and the creaking of the wooden blacksmith’s sign that hung suspended over his door. It was so simple and quiet and serene that it was easy to imagine that the town was merely frozen in time rather than emerging from the night hours.

Any time now, you thought to yourself as you took up your usual vantage near the square. Sure enough, it wasn’t more than a minute before the first cheery “bonjour!” rang through the air.

You squealed a bit as a pair of arms were thrown around your shoulders from behind, and a familiar voice near your ear said, “Guess who?” You laughed and responded jokingly, “Hmm. Prince Charming.” The person gave a light, musical giggle and untangled herself from you to say, “Sorry, no such luck. Guess you’ll have to make due with me for now.” You rolled your eyes and turned to face her. “Oh, how dreadful.”

Belle smiled widely and embraced you properly. When she pulled back you glimpsed an unfamiliar binding peaking out of the folds of her dress. “New book?” You asked eagerly, linking your arm through hers. Belle’s eyes lit up and she nodded, pulling the novel out of her pocket and holding it out to you as you began to wade through the steadily filling streets. “I found it in the cellar last night,” she explained as you gazed at the worn brown cover lovingly. “The Count of Monte Cristo,” you read.

The pair of you paused to purchase a few items from Monsieur Jean, then resumed your walk. “I haven’t read it yet,” Belle said, dodging a group of laughing children as they danced past. “But from what I saw when I glanced through it, it seems exciting. Adventure and revenge and romance…”

    “Sounds like the perfect package.”

“That’s what I thought. But I’m not finished with Romeo and Juliet yet, so you can read it first.”

You squeezed her arm and grinned broadly. “Thanks.”

Passing through the crowded rows of vendors every morning was uncomfortable when your family had first moved to Villeneuve. You and Belle had taken instantly to one another, despite the fact that she was considered by the townspeople to be a “funny girl”. It wasn’t long before you became guilty by association and earned yourself the same title. You were the only bookworms in town, the only people who ever thought of leaving for a different life, the only people who were able to disappear into their imaginations to escape the mundane. However at this point, you were both used to it. You learned to ignore the staring eyes and disapproving glances.

After making a few more stops and greeting several of the shopkeepers good morning, you and Belle had managed to make a full circle around the square. You were just about to join Belle for a late breakfast when you were stopped by a loud, deep voice calling your name from across the street.

You flinched, closing your eyes and groaning, “Oh no.” Belle snickered, her eyes fixed on the man who’d called to you. “Well,” she said hastily. “I’ll be at the house. Good luck, (Y/N)!”

Belle gave you a smart smile, then dashed from your side and made her way quickly down the street towards her home.

“Thanks a lot,” you muttered, shaking your head at your best friend as she disappeared from view. Steeling yourself, you slowly turned to face the man swaggering towards you, his red coat nearly blinding you in the bright sunlight.

    “Bonjour, Gaston,” you greeted politely.

Gaston flashed a dashing white smile, the edges of his eyes crinkling slightly as he took your hand and placed a kiss to the skin. “Good morning, Mademoiselle,” he returned, his voice simultaneously rough and silky.

“Mademoiselle? Really, Gaston, have we not know each other long enough for you to remember my name?” You teased lightly, beginning to walk slowly towards Belle’s. “On the contrary, (Y/N), yours is a name I could never forget,” Gaston assured you, following instantly. You resisted the temptation to roll your eyes.

Gaston was easily the most popular figure in the village, as well as the handsomest. The only problem was that he knew it, and rarely did he try to conceal that fact. When he walked by, women would melt like snow on a summer day, and men would stare after him in envy. A former war captain, Gaston was most certainly an impressive sight. His chest was broad and strong, his skin tanned, his arms and legs thick with lean muscle, and his hair was dark and shiny. His face could’ve been carved from enchanted stone, his jaw and cheekbones sharp enough to cut, dusted with dark stubble. His lips were nearly always smirking, and his eyes were a smoldering brown. Ever the romantic, the man could make a horse swoon without lifting a finger. There was no denying that he was truly something.

“You’re flattering me, Gaston,” you replied, brushing your fingers along the iron fence that ran the length of the street. “It’s too early for that.”

“Well, in that case perhaps I should drop by later this evening.”

You winced inwardly, realizing that you’d practically walked right into that one. You halted abruptly, causing Gaston - who had been trailing particularly close - to bump into you. You turned to him with a slightly annoyed expression, to which he merely smiled apologetically. You pursed your lips, trying to find a kind way to refuse his offer. In the end all that came out was “Um…not this evening.”

The shaky and terribly unconvincing way in which you’d spoken made even you cringe. Unlike Belle, you didn’t despise Gaston, and sometimes even enjoyed his company. However his constant attempts at wooing were a bit off-putting at times, and soon they began to blend together into one big blur of flowers and romantic gestures. It was because of this that you declined his invitation, yet the last thing that you wished to be was rude or insensitive…or in this case, awkward.

There was a falter in Gaston’s smile as he asked, “You have other engagements?” You bit your lip debating whether lie and tell him that you had plans, or to tell the truth and admit that you simply weren’t in the mood for company. You wound up hesitating too long, causing an ungraceful “Yes” to tumble through your lips.

You wheeled around quickly so that Gaston couldn’t see you scrunch your face in frustration. You were usually able to handle these situations with relative ease, but for some reason, today was different.

Gaston continued to follow you as you set off once again towards Belle’s, clearly seeing straight through your terrible lies. This time when he spoke, his voice was suave, but earnest.

“Oh, (Y/N), how long must you keep this up?” he said, practically walking on top of you, his chest to your shoulder, somehow managing not to trip either of you. “It’s been three months and talking to you is practically like trying to hold a conversation with a brick wall.”

You gave a short, breathy laugh and countered, “It’s been four years, Gaston. Ever since we met I couldn’t go five steps without either you or LeFou hanging over my shoulder. Surely even you can see how that might get a bit old after a while?”

Gaston didn’t reply immediately. In fact, he stopped where he was, and you had made it to the gate of Belle’s house by the time he pursued you again. You slipped through the iron fence and closed it just as Gaston arrived, planting his hands on either side of where yours rested on the gate. “Very well then, perhaps my attempts have been a bit excessive over the years –”

  “A bit.”

“- but answer me one thing, (Y/N) …if not me then who?”

You opened your mouth to reply, but nothing came out. Gaston’s expression was imploring and sympathetic. Whether or not it was sincere, you couldn’t tell. You swallowed, unable to respond.

“What about after your father and mother die?” Gaston went on, slowly sliding his hands to cover yours. “And it’s just you and the responsibilities that you won’t be able to fulfill without a husband at your side. You know what happens to spinsters in this town once they’re left on their own…” He leaned forward over the fence. “…they wind up on the streets, begging for food and spare coins from complete strangers until the day that they die sad, lonely deaths…”

Your heartbeat was accelerating. If you had the will, you would’ve informed Gaston that coming upon a single stranger in Villeneuve was immensely rare, and that you obviously wouldn’t be alone, thanks to your friendship with Belle. But the words simply wouldn’t leave your throat.

By this point, you and Gaston were practically touching noses. Your cheeks were now the color of his crimson coat, and your gaze was trapped in his intense brown eyes like flies trapped in honey.

“I wouldn’t be able to live knowing such a fate had befallen you,” he whispered.

You swallowed thickly. “Are you implying that I’ll never find another man besides you?” you practically squeaked. Gaston smiled sympathetically. “Of course not. Only that time won’t wait for you.”

“So you think I simply haven’t met the right man?”

  “Well -”

“Because it’s a small village, Gaston. I’ve met them all. So, I suppose that means that my future husband won’t be a resident of these parts.”

With that, you gathered enough willpower to pull your wrists from his grasp and back away towards the front door. Gaston gave what sounded like an indignant sigh. “Well, maybe you just need to take another look around!” he said, easily swinging himself over the fence and following you to the steps.

You turned back around once you reached the top, seeing Gaston perched beneath you, one leg mounted on the second step, staring up at you. You raised your eyebrows.

  “Another look around?”

  “Exactly!”

“Preferably in your general direction, I suppose.”

A dazzling smirk slid across his lips.

You laughed out loud, turning your back and grasping the knob of the door. Before you could open it however, Gaston tread up the steps two at a time, throwing one hand against the door to prevent you from escaping him, leaving you trapped between the pane and his body.

“Gaston!” you practically whined. He looked pleased with himself, but stealthily masked it. “Please, (Y/N),” he said quickly, giving you a desperate smile. “Just one more chance. That’s all I’m asking of you. And if in the end your feelings are unchanged, then I will relent to your wishes and leave you be.”

You were surprised to see his eyes suddenly soften, and for the moment, his entire demeanor changed. The cockiness faded to nonexistence, and sincerity bloomed in its place, so raw and real that you felt butterflies going haywire in your stomach. Your chest was brushing his, the difference in your heights was laughable, yet somehow he seemed so, so, close…

In one swift move, you managed to remove his arm from the door, yank it open, and slide inside. But before closing it, you hastily informed, “It wouldn’t be completely pointless for you to look for me at the tavern tonight.”

Then before the heat in your face became too evident, you closed the door and practically collapsed against it, your heart pounding and an extremely stupid grin on your lips. It certainly didn’t help when you heard Gaston’s deep, husky laughter ringing just on the other side of the wood.

Belle peered quizzically at you from the kitchen for a few seconds, then she frowned as she asked, “What on earth happened to you?”

I’m sure someone has done this before but please consider a Marichat/Adrienette Tarzan AU where Adrien grows up in the jungle, but instead of being raised by apes, he’s found by black panthers. He finds a snarky brother figure in Plagg, runs around the jungle like a panther, swift and agile and stealthy in the night. He knows he’s different from his brother, but he doesn’t know why. He has seen humans, and though he seems to have the same kind of head and arms and torso and legs as them, he doesn’t look like them, he doesn’t think he’s one of them, not really. The colors of his skin and hair are unlike the other humans hunting in the jungle, with their dark bodies painted and their sharpened spears pointed at Adrien’s animal brothers.

One day he stumbles on the crash site and finds the plane. Plagg somewhat tries to steer him away, but Adrien is drawn to the strange jagged metal. He slinks into the plane and finds a photograph–though he doesn’t really know what a photograph is, he’s innately sharp enough to work out that it’s some kind of painting. He’s elated to find that the humans on it look quite like himself, not like the other hunting humans he’s seen. One of the humans on the photo is a tall man with short silver hair and intelligent eyes, and the other is a woman long flowing hair and a gentle smile. Adrien’s heart pangs at the sight of them, though he doesn’t know why. And then there’s another human, a cub–a baby–sitting on the woman’s lap. This little human has fluffy hair, and bright eyes… It eerily looks like Adrien himself, when as a boy he used to look at the clear, still water of the watering hole before the other animals came in.

With a jolt Adrien realizes what the photograph is, and what the destroyed state of the plane means. He looks at Plagg, so many questions hammering in his chest but nothing getting past his throat. Plagg says nothing, but, in a rare show of affection, rubs the top of his head on Adrien’s shoulder.

Meanwhile, Marinette has been sent into the jungle to cook for a scientific expedition. While Mme. Mendeleiev is mostly a camper, she’s too busy doing science things to eat, much less prepare meals, thus the need for a cook. And while Mme. Mendeleiev is an intense, rather acidic personality, Marinette is given time to walk around the perimeter of the camp and sketch. One day she dares to stray a bit farther than she usually does, and chances upon a ladybug resting on a leaf. She very carefully hunkers down on her belly to inspect it before it flies away. With keen eyes, she commits the scene to memory: the exact shade of red, the number of spots, the way the light fell on the trees, and the green, green eyes in the shadows–

Marinette gasps, freezing in place. For several moments, nothing moves, not even the air nor the little ladybug resting on the leaf. And then the body that owns the green eyes inches forward. Her heart pounding against her ribs and the ground below, Marinette drinks in the sight of the figure before her. Dirtied hands, lean but strong arms, fair but slightly tanned human skin, dazzling golden hair, and the most curious green eyes Marinette has ever seen.
