A Beginner’s Guide to Tea Leaf Reading

Hi there! If you’re here, that means you most likely don’t know how to read tea leaves, or perhaps you could use some more tips? Regardless, you’ll find all of that here! This guide will be pretty all-encompassing, so bear with me!

What is tea leaf reading?

Tasseography, better known as reading tea leaves, is the process of divination using tea leaves. When done properly, the tea leaves will show an image (even if vague) that will symbolize the answer to a question the reader asked. The image can tell the future or just give advice; depending on the question.

How does one read tea leaves?

This is definitely a more involved question, but here’s how I do it; step by step.

1. First, brew your cup of tea. It can be any flavor. But if you are reading for someone else, you may want to let them choose the flavor (I like to do this). However, if you can’t choose a flavor, black tea is pretty standard as the dark color of the tea makes it easier to read.

2. Now, drink your tea. If it is a loose leaf tea, try to drink as little of the leaves as possible. If it is a bag, leave the bag steeping in there and drink. Don’t drink it all, though, leave a little liquid in (not very much at all.)

3. At this point, if you used a tea bag, you’re going to want to open the bag and let the leaves pour into the little amount of liquid there is left.

4. Now, at this point I like to rotate the cup clockwise three times. You can rotate it any direction and as many times you want. You don’t even have to rotate it at all if you don’t want to.

5. Now, you’re going to place a saucer or plate over the top of the cup. Tip the cup over so that most of the liquid and leaves spill onto the plate/saucer.

6. Now, you will see some leaves left in the cup. These should make an image. Although it may be abstract, it’ll be there, even though it might take a while for you to see it.

7. Now it’s time for you to interpret your image. You can either look up the symbology of the image you saw or do your own interpretation based on your own personal associations.

8. Now focus on where the image is. Is it at the top, bottom, left, right, right by the handle? The placement shows what time the interpretation will happen. I will attach an infographic to give a better idea of what I’m talking about here.

And there you have it!! This is how I do my tea leaf readings. It does take some practice, but once you get a hang of it, you’ll only get better.

Whats your favourite kind of tea? (I'm British and due to my stereotype I must know.)

I’m pretty happy with most kinds of tea, but I prefer things with nutty flavors over fruity flavors. Hazelnut Black Tea is pretty good. I also like Green Tea with toasted rice in it.

Trying Something New...

As an avid tea drinker for most of my life, I haven’t strayed very far from my basic black tea.  I’ve occasionally gone for a chai tea or green tea, but even those are in the same family of black teas. In the past, I haven’t particularly enjoyed herbal teas such as chamomile or peppermint teas.  There’s just something so homey about a nice cup of black tea with cream and sugar, and I no herbal tea seemed like it could ever replace that perfect black tea flavor.

Unfortunately, the caffeine content in the black, green, and chai teas was not an idea characteristic for the teas to possess when I would consume them later in the evening.  As a result, the caffeine would keep me awake later at night that I would like to be, thus making me more tired the next day.  Since this has become more of an issue in college, I decided to give a new caffeine-free herbal tea a try: Honey Lavender by Yogi Teas.

I prepared the cup of tea as I would black tea, but omitted the cream.  I followed the instructions on the package as well, only brewing it for about 5 minutes total.  Upon smelling the cup of tea, it definitely smelled good (since I love the smell of lavender) and I was very excited to give it a try.  After taking a sip, I was immediately shocked by how delicious the tea was.  It was both sweet and aromatic, and definitely had a strong lavender essence.  For a caffeine-free herbal tea, I was honestly very impressed.  It had a more relaxed flavor, and wasn’t so intense that the flavor was overwhelming.

Generally speaking, I did enjoy this tea very much and therefore I plan to repurchase it in the future.  It is so far the only herbal tea I like enough to drink on a regular basis.  However, when compared to my usual black tea, it would still come in second place.  As it is an herbal tea that milk shouldn’t be added to, it lacks the creaminess that I love about my black teas.  Despite this, it definitely serves its purpose as a caffeine-free tea that solves the problem I often encounter from drinking caffeinated teas too close to bedtime.

I would recommend this tea to anyone who is looking for a caffeine-free tea but often does not like herbal.  It offers a unique blend of flavors that is both warming and relaxing.  It is perfect for college students—fittingly so, it is marketed as a “Stress Relief” tea, perfect for getting through this finals week as relaxingly as possible!

In a café where coffee is delicious, the ice cream also resembles more flavor of coffee or black tea, and that bittersweet taste is delicious😚

❄Chai tea
❄Thai milk tea
❄Roobios tea

❄Hot vanilla and honey milk (use any milk substitute if needed, almond milk is my favorite substitute)

1 jar of orange Tang drink mix
1 ½ c. sugar

Mix all these dry ingredients together and store in a glass jar. To serve, pour 2-3 teaspoons into a mug of hot water and stir.

Bubbles💎 Jiyeon & Jungkook

Bubble tea. That’s all she wanted was a bubble tea. Black tea with peach flavoring. Pretty simple. Couldn’t possibly screw that up. Right? Oh she’d find a way.

It all started when she was out shopping. It was a rare incident considering as how she was in the middle of a comeback. But somehow, someway, she was able to squeeze in some time for a bit of leisure shopping. Nothing too drastic that left her covered in bags. Nah. She had found a couple shirts she liked and a pair of shoes but that was about it. And now she was thirsty.

So what better way to quench her thirst than to stop at the closest bubble tea stand. Right? Yeah it sounded like a great idea a the time. Well turns out the place didn’t sell just bubble tea. It also sold coffee and smoothies and the likes. So she stood there in line and waited her turn patiently. Already knowing what she wanted. A peach flavored iced tea. Black. If only it were that simple.

If she had known he was already in line, she would have immediately turned around and found somewhere else to get a drink but it was too late. She was already there and it was almost her turn. Why hadn’t she seen him earlier? He was so freaking tall how could she have possibly missed him??? Internally whining, she peeked around the person in front of her to try and get a better look at him. Dear god her cheeks were heating up just staring at his backside.

It was Jeon Jungkook. Someone she just happened to have a celebrity crush on. Great. Wonderful. Now if only she could get out of there unseen and without making a fool of herself.

Hakkai: A Spot of Tea

Preview image of a magazine sale set of items– the cleaning cloth of a glasses case, featuring of course, Mr. Glasses Hakkai. Sourced from the October 2015 issue of Zero Sum.What is he drinking anyways? Earl of Grey? English Breakfast? Plain old tea or Jasmine? The cup is too fancy for Japanese green team (I’m just saying…). I’d prefer raspberry flavored black tea. Honestly, I have the serious urge to drink tea now, so bye.

This is the most complete profile of Yayoi. As I said before, I think it’s great to have all the info on a character in one place/post. That’s why I translated the profile from the profiling book 1 and combined it with the one from the book 2. Basically you have the info as of 2112 and 2116. I separated the data, of course. Why do that? Because there are three types of info: basic info or the info that remains unchanged, new info and updated info. I hope it’s convenient for you as well. I’m gonna organize the profiles of Akane, Gino, Shinya and Shion in the same way.
