This has been sitting in my drafts for a good few weeks now… ^^; I’m still not satisfied with how the next panel looks like– So instead of trying to fix it up like a normal person, I’ve been working on other stuff~ *whistles*
I have completed some of the other panels, but the story can’t continue until the 4th panel is done~ Hey, I just work in mysterious ways! 😂
Ah, I’m just gonna post it as it is now, and I’ll upload the rest at a later date! ;)
STAR WARS is really good for time travel fic, the urge to give the characters a chance to fix things, now that they have an idea of what went wrong or what to look out for, while still having to relive so many painful things, that balance of suffering and yet it’s worth it for the hope it offers, it’s exactly what the best fic is made of. I LOVE TIME TRAVEL FIC SO MUCH, so I’ve collected together a bunch of my favorites!

this is Carl, who we found eating our trash. eventually we got him to trust us enough to bring him inside and eventually take him to get fixed and all that good stuff. now he just sits around the house all day staring blankly at you as you walk by. he’s looking at a laser pointer on the ceiling here
Listen, if you are struggling with feeling bad about your weight or loving your body or feeling good about how you look, here’s what’s up: you are worthy of all the love in the world. You are not the sum of your physical parts. Your body doesn’t define you. Anyone who would make you believe different is lying to you. And that voice in your head that tells you that you’re only deserving of love or that you’ll only be happy if you lose that weight or if your skin clears up or if you fix your hair is lying most of all. You deserve happiness and love and the excitement of life NOW. If you can’t hear over all those voices, I’ll remind you. You are so worth everything. I love you.

OKAY BUT HOW CAN I DO THIS WITHOUT MAKING SHITTY THE MATCHMAKER.
Shitty knows a lot and he knows he knows it. So when the illustrious Jack Zimmermann comes into his “relationship clinic,” Shitty has a thousand pieces of advice for him. First of all, Jack should learn to enjoy himself a little. Nobody wants to date a boy who’s not into having fun. Loosen up. And learn how to make conversation. And maybe learn to flatter a little. Shitty will fix him up with a nice girl, but Shitty’s going to recommend his favorite dating coach, Eric Bittle, to give Jack some lessons on how to treat a lady.
Eric Bittle has a thousand words of advice for Jack as well. They do a mock date, and Eric says things like “Okay, Jack, right now I’m eyeing my phone about to send a text to my best friend telling her to rescue me.” “Jack, I’m stifling a yawn and starting to look at the cute guy in the booth behind us.” “Mr. Zimmermann, that is the sort of thing that would make some girls walk out.”
Jack’s frustrated. Shitty fixes him up with a girl named Samantha, and Jack finds that Eric’s admonishments were scarily accurate. They break down the date later. Eric assures him that he’s not a hopeless case, that he gave it a good honest try, and that’s more than a lot of guys will even give.
Next lesson with Eric. Technique. Literally, how to eat and drink. How to dance. Eric’s as small as some girls, so he gives Jack a dance lesson. Jack’s never enjoyed dancing before, but holding Eric by the waist and guiding him around the dance floor is fun. Fun, due in no small part to the sparkle in Eric’s eyes.
Shitty matches him up with a girl named Camilla. This one goes a lot better. They talk sports, which is great, and Jack pretty much succeeds at the whole technique thing. But the thing is, Jack’s not feeling it. It’s one thing to perform well, but it’s another to have it feel like a performance. He doesn’t have the same rapport with Camilla as he does with Eric. It doesnt feel right.
Shitty frowns at this. “Brah, can I ask you a question?” he says to Jack. “Are you into men?”
Jack shakes his head fiercely. “It has to be a woman,” he says. “It has to. I’m in the NHL.”
Shitty looks at him for a long moment, opens his mouth to speak, and then sighs. “All right,” he says. “You’re the client.”
Third lesson with Eric devolves into a conversation on expectations and feelings. “How will I know when it’s the right person?” Jack asks.
“Oh, honey. You’ll know,” Eric says. “She’ll be easy to talk to. You’ll want to spend more time with her. You won’t want the night to end.”
Jack doesn’t know about that, but he does know that he doesn’t want this lesson to end. Ever.
Jack returns to Shitty and tells him he needs a girl who’s easy to talk to. Shitty frowns and says, “Okay, all right. I don’t usually do this, but I’m gonna set you up with a close personal friend of mine. Larissa’s low-key, she’s smart, she’s interesting… she might be perfect for you. Sound good?”
She does sound good, and Jack’s actually finding he’s somewhat excited for this date. And Larissa is easy to talk to. Better yet, she’s easy to not talk to… the pauses in their conversation are not awkward. Jack definitely feels a connection with her. If there’s a hitch in this date, it’s that Larissa seems to talk about Shitty a little too much.
But when the end of the night comes, and they’re at Larissa’s door – Jack doesn’t want to kiss her. He wants her number, but he wants it so he can text her. Maybe hang out once in a while. But not date. Not kiss, not hold hands with.
Larissa frowns at him. “You’re thinking of someone else,” she says flatly.
And she’s absolutely right.
Jack makes an appointment for a lesson with Eric, and the minute they’re together again, Jack tells him. “I want you,” he says. “I want to date you. No one else.”
Eric’s hesitant, but his eyes are shining. “Oh, Jack, honey,” he says. “That’s not uncommon, for people to think they’ve fallen for their dating coach. It’s an illusion. Because we connected during lessons, it doesn’t mean we really–”
“We really,” Jack says. “I really.”
Eric stares, lost for words. Jack fills in the blanks. “I want to go on dates with you,” he says. “I want to hold hands with you, I want to dance just like we were dancing before. I want to talk to you all night long. I want to wake up next to you. You’re who I was thinking of when I was on those dates. I’m not making this up. It’s for real. You said I’d know…. and I know.”
And now there are tears in Eric’s eyes. “Are… are you sure?”
Jack nods emphatically.
“I– I told myself I was just imagining it,” Eric mumbles. “I told myself, now look here, Eric Richard Bittle, he’s just another client. Another one of the hot messes Shitty works with. Just because he’s doing well at the lessons doesn’t mean–”
Jack shuts him up with a kiss.
Afterward, as they hold each other, Jack says, “You know, Shitty’s a really good matchmaker.”
Eric laughs. “You think?”
“Absolutely.” Jack gives him a grin. “I fell for the very first person he recommended.”
[MAGAZINE INTERVIEW] 170420 WINNER for HIGH CUT May Issue
WINNER’s beginning was different from the start as they were born through a reality program, “WIN: Who Is Next”. In the first week of their debut, they won three #1 crowns on music shows with their title track “Empty” and swept up all the rookie awards that year. The public fixed their eyes on the monster rookie that had skills, visuals, and the star quality and WINNER always put out results that met expectations. But a long hiatus followed which was unprecedented for a rookie group. A sudden piece of news that fans received during the hiatus was not about their comeback but about a member leaving the group. They became 4 members from 5 and they changed the formation of their choreographies and they adjusted the vocalist parts and they had to work hard to fill up the one empty spot. The result of this came in the form of their single album “FATE NUMBER FOR”, which was released on April 4th, 1 year and 2 months after their previous comeback. The moment the album was released, it recorded first place on iTunes Charts in 21 different countries and was featured in Apple Music’s “Best of the Week”. The fact that the public’s response to “REALLY REALLY” and “FOOL”, which are total opposites of each other, are addicting is just a bonus. WINNER is at their peak.
The response for “REALLY REALLY” is very hot. Do you feel how popular it is?
I’ve been told by people but I can’t really feel it myself. Just like it has always been, we just perform onstage and meet our fans and move according to our schedules.
During WINNER’s hiatus, with Nam Taehyun’s leave, the group became 4 from the original 5. Didn’t you feel like your responsibility as the leader was heavier with this comeback?
Of course I felt responsible. But I didn’t think things like, “I need to lead WINNER better so we can go to a higher place.” (laughs) I felt like I needed to do things instead of staying still.
I heard that you weren’t able to properly rest or travel for leisure during the hiatus.
Yes. When I didn’t have plans on making music, I was at home. Home and company. That was it. It was because I didn’t want to just rest. Even when I didn’t have any songs to work on, I went to the company. I felt more comfortable staying at the company, eating with my composer hyungs, and talking to them.
I heard you made “REALLY REALLY” and “FOOL” very quickly.
Composing for both songs came easy to me. For “REALLY REALLY”, I finished composing the melody and writing the lyrics while lying in bed in 4 hours. But I couldn’t figure out the best melody progression for the bridge part so I asked Mino to help me.
As a member who composed the songs, which member do you want to praise the most?
Jinwoo-hyung. I don’t force directions to the rappers. They have always done well with their individual styles and they know how to show off their own colors. But I was really surprised at how much Jinwoo-hyung’s singing improved while recording for this single album. The time it took to record decreased greatly. It took 30 minutes when it usually takes 2 hours.
Jinwoo told me earlier that the songs suited him so well that he was very comfortable with them.
Whenever I make WINNER songs, I compose so that it suits the members. It’s only possible since I’ve known them for almost 10 years now, ever since we were trainees. This means I probably can’t make songs for other singers.
I feel like you received a lot of stress to achieve such good results.
I feel like I don’t get stressed much but my body keeps hurting in places. (laughs) I still get migraines.
How do you relieve stress?
These days I reform clothes with Mino as a hobby. I usually relieve stress by going outside and walking under the sunlight. But I need to wear a face mask and a hoodie so people don’t recognize me. I wear black clothes to not draw attention to myself at night. (laughs)
How do you reform clothes?
I just fold them and stick them together and sew things together and cut things. I’m bad at sewing. When I have things I need to sew, I put them aside and when my mother comes to Seoul, I make her do it… (laughs) She enjoys it though! I’m usually really blunt around her so when I ask her to do things like this for me she thinks we’re playing together.
In the end, all the clothes you’re reforming are made by your mother.
No, that’s not it. I design the clothes and my mother sews the clothes. Designers don’t sew clothes themselves. Their assistants do it. (laughs)
You’re receiving good results after a long hiatus. Is there something you want to challenge yourself in in the future?
I want to hear people say, “This is what WINNER-like music is” even when we make music we want to make and not bother with trends. To make that happen, we need to become more known and further develop our careers. I think it’s possible with time. Personally, once WINNER becomes properly stabilized as a group, I want to release a solo album but I want to include all genres of music into that one album. When people think about the music Kang Seungyoon makes, they assume it’s only folk or rock music. I want to break that preconceived notion and put in dance, hip-hop, R&B, and even trot songs into the album. I’m just sharing my thoughts. (laughs)
You’ve succeeded in the variety scene. You received your nickname “Song Dumb” through “New Journey to the West” and you’ve become famous enough among the older generation that they ask for your autograph. Was it your wish to appear on a variety show?
Yes, I wanted to. Other than music shows, we weren’t able to have complete promotions and as time passed, the image of the group WINNER solidified into being a group that is hard to approach and classy. (laughs) I don’t mind that kind of image and vibe but I wanted us to promote more and become more known. In that timing, I received the offer from “New Journey to the West” and I had lots of fun filming it but I didn’t expect to be shown like that… (laughs)
You’re honestly worried as a rapper, right?
At first I was worried that my image would cover my music activities. But when I thought about it, what was shown on TV is my true self and it’s separate from the music I make so there is no need to forcefully hide myself. I’ll show myself as I am and I can show my music as it is.
In a separate interview you said that you worked hard to show rapping that overflows with energy without covering the melody. Maybe because of this I feel like your vocalization changed.
My vocalization changed during “Show Me The Money”. It’s actually a change that all singers and rappers go through. It’s how we find the voice we’re most comfortable with. When I first started rapping, I made up a voice and rapped in that voice. When I listen to the songs I made when I was in high school, my voice sounds like I swallowed stones. (laughs) Back then, I thought that was cool. But gradually, I’m finding the voice I’m comfortable with.
When you promote as WINNER, rapping is a component that makes up the vibe of the song. You must want to work on your own music since you don’t rap as much compared to when you promote individually.
Yes. The rapping I do as WINNER is one part of the song so the importance lies in the overall concept. But my rap style is made up of word plays and I pour in a lot of fun elements and enjoy my music so when I get the opportunity to work on my solo music, I’m going to do whatever I want. I want to go hard in my rapping.
Do you perhaps remember the first rap you made?
I don’t remember the lyrics but I remember what happened. The first ever music I made was when I was in my 6th year of elementary school. I went to my friend’s house and wrote my first lyrics and recorded myself on a cassette tape with my friend. I didn’t know anything when I was writing those lyrics. I just scribbled something and said, “Hey, but let’s still record it” and I recorded it on a cassette tape. I wonder where that cassette tape is now.
Out of all the raps you’ve made, which one gave you the hardest time?
The song that I had the hardest time making was “Shoot” for “Infinite Challenge: Great Legacy”. The overall concept was already set in place. The larger theme was history and the smaller theme was General Lee Soonshin. And the project was about becoming aware by looking back into the past and looking at the present. It was difficult to express myself within a fixed boundary. Fortunately, the end result turned out well.
You’ve had the name WINNER for 4 years now. Is there a time when you think you have some spare time now?
I don’t think we’re at that level yet. But the chemistry between us members is really good. We’ve been living together for a long time now so I think we know pretty much everything about each other. I know what my members are thinking just by looking at their faces. The member who is in the best mood today is… Seunghoon-hyung. That hyung has severe mood swings but I think he’s pretty happy today. (laughs)
Is there a specific key point you want listeners to focus on for “REALLY REALLY”?
Um… What a difficult question. (Song Mino mulled over the question for a long time. Lee Seunghoon, who had finished earlier came and suggested, “Didn’t you say you worked hard to change your tone? Tell her about that.”) The change in my tone can just be heard. I don’t need to specifically tell that to people… I just want people to listen to it comfortably. Comfortably. (laughs)
I heard CEO Yang praised you for making the choreography for “FOOL” in 5 hours.
I was able to make it quickly because I thought about the flow of movements. “FOOL” didn’t need complicated dancing. It’s a song that is close to the ballad genre so it wasn’t necessary to dance powerfully and put in a key point dance. The first thing I thought about was how I could make us look cool.
I’m curious about your process in making choreographies.
First, I close my eyes while listening to the song and draw a picture in my head. I imagine an overall picture while thinking about the mood of the performance that people would find cool watching us. After I imagine that, I make a large outline of how the members should move. After that, I make the detailed dance movements. “FOOL” didn’t need lots of movements but the formation had to change because we became 4 members from 5.
You’ve started promoting after a long hiatus. I heard you thought a lot about what kind of fanservice you would do for the fans.
The ground-breaking invention of Naver V App is helping many people other than ourselves, I think. I really want to tell Naver that I love them. (laughs) I’ve always liked making and planning ideas and content. I’ve had interest in making videos from when I was young. So I have fun and I like communicating with our fans through V App.
I feel like you’ve been overflowing with ideas from when you were on “K-Pop Star”. I guess you’re not nicknamed “Deputy Lee of YG Planning Team” for nothing.
I enjoy producing ideas. When I get told they’re fun, I get really excited. Usually, other artists go to the YG office building to work out or go to the recording studio on the 3rd floor and they don’t really go to where the staff members work. But I always go to those staff members’ offices. So when they see me on TV, they say that I look unfamiliar and that it feels strange. They say things like, “Why is our Deputy who’s always scruffy appearing on TV like that”. (laughs)
You have good fashion sense. You’ve collaborated with fashion brands too.
Let me just tell you that good-looking people like Jinwoo-hyung never get interested in fashion. That’s because they look good no matter what they wear. (laughs) I enjoyed going around used-goods markets and looking for clothes with my friends. Since I debuted and am earning money, I can buy expensive clothes now, right? I used to not have money so I couldn’t buy expensive clothes but I suddenly realised that the ultimate end to fashion was to personally create a style of clothes I like. So later on, when I have the opportunity, I want to create my own clothing brand, like Tyler, the Creator who made “Golf Wang”.
You’re a jack-of-all-trades. I was surprised when I saw your poem called “Flower Boat” that you wrote for your fans.
I just imitated something like a poem. I feel like my fans like it so much because what I feel for my fans can be felt from that poem. I’m not good at writing and I’m not talented.
What are you talking about? Your fans say that the lyrics you write are the best parts of the songs. Were you proud when you listened to the completed recordings of the new songs?
Yes, I liked them. Seungyoon is the type to listen to the music he makes a thousand times before the release but I don’t listen to our songs often. I say things like, “Why listen to them already when we’re going to keep listening to them after they’re released?” (laughs) But I was satisfied. I worked hard to make a rap that middle school girls could imitate easily.
How did you do that?
I made sure my enunciation wasn’t hard to imitate and the speed wasn’t too fast. And most importantly, I put in many breaks between the beats where you can rest. I imagined how people would sing and rap along. (laughs)
You’re famous among your fans for being very diligent. What kind of effort did you put in for this single album?
I kept receiving lessons while we recorded. I also learned contemporary dancing and thanks to that I became very confident. I used to sing quietly when we recorded but now I actively try singing this way and that. My singing hasn’t changed but my attitude has.
As the group became 4 members, your singing parts increased too. Were you not burdened?
I just recorded the songs comfortably. When Seungyoon makes a song, he thinks about our tones and the rappers’ tendencies. We record many songs and there are times when there are good results and there are times when there are bad results but when Seungyoon is the one who made the song, I never struggle. I didn’t put in any extra effort. I don’t need to because he makes songs that suit me perfectly.
When were you most excited while recording the songs?
I was just happy the entire time we were recording. I feel like learning how to physically express myself in a given situation through contemporary dancing made me change a lot internally. If I have the time, I want to continue learning contemporary dance.
Fans know that you’re a homebody. Do you still always stay home?
I don’t spend my spare time outdoors. I watch TV at home or I lie in bed and play with my phone. I used to play lots of phone games but I’ve stopped that now. Playing so many phone games made me spend too much money. (laughs) I stopped because I realised that if I kept it up, I would go broke. (laughs)
You must’ve watched a lot of TV during the hiatus.
I’ve watched many dramas recently. I especially enjoyed watching “Defendant”.
Who is your favorite actor?
Kimura Takuya. I love it when people tell me I look like how Kimura Takuya looked like when he was young. (laughs)
Who is your favorite Korean actor?
Jisung-sunbaenim who acted in “Defendant”. Did you watch that drama? You didn’t? You really should. I really love Choi Jinsil-sunbaenim. I didn’t know that I would fall in love with another actor besides her. Jisung-sunbaenim acted his character who would never let go of his deep sadness even in a happy situation and… Wow… Seriously…
You’ve acted in a webdrama before, right? I can feel that you’re greedy for acting.
Yes, I’m always interested in acting. I’ve acted in a couple of webdramas but I think they didn’t really suit me. I want to try acting a deep and heavy character instead of a light character. Of course, I am still very lacking.
But you’re the icon of effort. All the other members picked you as the member who improved the most.
Not just me, all of us worked really hard in making this single album. If you ask me what people should focus on when listening to our song, I want to say “all of it”. There is really no part that didn’t require hard work.
Then when is the best timing to listen to “REALLY REALLY”?
When you’re in a flirting relationship with someone. Or at the beginning of a romantic relationship, when the love is fresh. If I were to compare that feeling to a season, it would be Spring, which is right now.
When do you think Spring will start in your love life? I heard what your ideal type is on the radio. You said that you want to date someone who looks like you, right? A women with big eyes, a slender face, and is 165cm tall. Do these characteristics still hold?
Firstly, I don’t mind what kind of hairstyle she has now. But I would like it if she is shorter than me. Other than that, the general descriptions haven’t changed. But right now I will concentrate on WINNER promotions. (laughs)
Jin: “But I wanted you to be a special guest on Eat Jin,” your
boyfriend pouts (an impressive feat with his mouth full of food). He’s very against the idea
of you going on a diet – who’s going to help him clear up all the food he can’t
You raise an eyebrow, while he swallows and asks – “What? Do
I have something on my face?”
“Just a little…” You reach across the table separating the two
of you, and wipe some sauce from the corner of his lips, before popping your
finger in your mouth.
Jin chuckles, “Isn’t
eating that sauce against your diet?”
“It’s just sauce.”
“Sauce that’s high in fat and salt!”
“This is why you’re a
rubbish boyfriend - making me break my diet. For shame!” You poke
your tongue out at him.
Jin sighs. “Ah well, I guess if you’re on a diet now, that means more food for me. And I was going to order that ice-cream you like for the next episode of Eat Jin as well…”
That’s playing dirty! “You wouldn’t!” you scoff, knowing
full well that he will, and that when you ask for a lick, just the tiniest taste –
he’ll offer you the whole scoop - your favourite flavour too - and boom! there goes your
diet, and all your good intentions. The worst part is – you won’t mind,
because Jin’s kisses will taste that extra bit sweeter seeped in vanilla and
Yoongi: Yoongi can tell something’s up. You’re being extremely
quiet, and you haven’t touched any of the pizza on your plate. Jostled up beside
your talkative friends, you’re like a lone grey cloud in the middle of a blue
Yoongi finishes off the crumbs on his own plate, then stands.
“Well, I guess I’ll go wash up,” he says, “Y/N, do you wanna come help?”
You scrunch your nose at him, but follow him to the kitchen
anyway, away from the busy chatter of your friends.
“Alright, what’s wrong?” Yoongi asks, when the two of you
are out of earshot.
You fiddle with a loose strand on your sweater. “Nothing’s
wrong.” There’s a moment of hesitation, and you pull at the thread a little
harder, twisting it around your finger. “I just don’t want to eat too since I’ve -” The last part is mumbled.
“…I’ve started dieting.” Your cheeks turn pink.
“Dieting?” Yoongi repeats, “Why?”
“I need to lose some weight.”
He shakes his head. “That’s simply not true. You’re the
perfect weight, and I don’t want to hear you saying otherwise. I like you the
way you are now.” He gives your arm a gentle poke. “I like this part.” He pokes
your stomach. “And this part.” He moves up to your nose. “And this part. I like
all of it. It’s all perfect.”
You blush, and bat his hand away. “Yeah, yeah… don’t get all
mushy.” But when you go back to join your friends, Yoongi’s happy to see you
tucking into a fat slice of pizza.
Hosoek: “Ugh…” That’s a sound you haven’t heard from Hoseok in a while – the sound
he makes when he knows he’s fighting a losing battle against you. But he won’t give up without a fight - oh no! He’ll see a smile break through that perfected pout of yours, even if it means bringing out the big guns! An exaggerated eye-roll and a funny face secures his victory, and you can’t cap the laughter that fizzes up inside you - this is definitely the best way to deal with a couple’s quarrel.
“Stop that,” you bash playfully at his chest, and he bends
over in feigned pain –
“Wow, Y/N, you’re so mean to me! And when I’m trying to help
you out as well!”
It’s your turn to roll your eyes. “Hoseok, you stopping me
from dieting isn’t going to help anything. I need to take better care of my
health. You should be supporting this.”
He straightens up, straightens his face, and fixes you with
a serious look. “Okay, I’ll support you – but only if you’re doing it for the right
“I’m doing it to get healthier!”
“And you know that-”
“- that I’m completely gorgeous, with the perfect body,
that I don’t need to diet at all, and that you’re lucky to have me.”
He catches your face in his hands, palms pressing your
cheeks softly, before he plunges in for a kiss. “Damn right.”
Namjoon: “You dieting? Good one, babe.” Namjoon’s dimples deepen, his smile erupting into a fully-fledged laugh.
And then he realises you’re not joking. And his face falls. “Wait,
really? You’re dieting? Why?” His mind kicks into overdrive, wondering,
worrying about what could have caused this sudden decision. Before, you would
have happily helped him finish off pizzas or ice-cream sundaes, but now you’re
talking about empty calories and cutting carbs.
“I need to fix my figure,” you tell him, brow wrinkling into
Namjoon looks you up and down. “Babe…”
His eyes trace your body a second time. “Babe.”
“What?” you demand again.
He shakes his head. “You do not need to get in shape. Your body is so sexy.”
“Sexy?” Your nose crinkles. “You think I’m sexy?”
You consider this for a moment. Then – “Well… I guess if you
think so, maybe I’m okay.”
“No, not just okay, but-”
“Sexy, right?” You finish his sentence for him, a glint in your
“Right! Sexy.” He purrs the word.
“Say it one more time.”
“Only if you promise to stop this talk of dieting.”
Jimin: “But I bought all these biscuits for you!” Jimin gazes at
the plate of cream-coated cookies in distress, then back up at you, his eyebrows
furrowing. This isn’t how he imagined you accepting his date-night gift.
You grin sheepishly. “Sorry… I forgot to tell you I was starting a diet.”
“Can’t you leave it till tomorrow?”
Your mouth pops open in mock horror. “That would be cheating!”
“In all seriousness though, dieting’s no fun. Trust me, I’ve tried it before, and it didn’t make me any happier, or healthier.” Jimin’s mouth pulls down at the corners a little, before his usual smile returns. “Come on. Just one… they’re really tasty. Just take one.” As he says this, he picks up a cookie, and bites into
it slowly, never breaking eye-contact with you. It’s a challenge. (Eat one! I dare
You give in. Of course you do. It’s Jimin. Leaning towards him, you kiss some of the crumbs off the corner of
his mouth, then, with the taste of sugar fresh on your tongue, you concede, “Maybe one or two couldn’t hurt.” A smug grin paints
itself across Jimin’s face as you reach for the plate.
Tomorrow. You can start your diet tomorrow…
Or the day after that…
Taehyung: Taehyung doesn’t understand it. To him, you’re the most
beautiful person he’s ever laid eyes on – you’re prettier than diamonds, and
stardust, and wildflowers, and sunsets, and the pictures of waterfalls they
stick on travel brochures. In short - you’re perfection personified. So,
Taehyung can’t wrap his head around the idea of you dieting because you’re (quote)
It’s eating him up, knowing that you’re unhappy, and not knowing how he can fix it. All he can do is
smile, and promise you that the voice in your head is lying to you. “But I
never lie, Y/N. Not to you. Not about this.”
Still, your lips stay down-turned, eyes dull, not properly
seeing him through your tears.
You wipe you eyes.
“Y/N, look at me.”
You blink a few times, and look up.
You do. Despite all the negative thoughts that are bubbling
around you, you manage to smile, and that’s all Taehyung needs to smile too.
“There, right there, that’s what perfection
looks like.” He frames your face with his fingers, then slips his hands on down to
your shoulders, looping around you and pulling you close.
Jungkook: “You’re what?” Jungkook cocks his head at you, looking like a confused puppy across the
“Dieting…” you say past a mouthful of lettuce leaves, “Quit looking at me like that. I’m not speaking an alien language. D-i-e-t-i-n-g. Dieting.”
His head remains fixed in place, tilted to one side, the
corners of his eyes scrunching up.
“Stop it!” You throw a napkin at him, which misses its target and floats down to the floor. You’re laughing, and he eventually breaks his gaze to chuckle as well.
“Okay, but seriously, why are you dieting?” His arms stretch
across the table, reaching for your wrists as you bring another forkful of
salad to your mouth.
A shrug is his answer. “I’ve just been feeling… I don’t know… ugly lately.”
“You don’t look ugly lately.”
Your eyes trail up to his. “You’re just saying that because
you’re my boyfriend - you have to say nice things.”
“No way!” He leans further over the table,
cupping your face in his hands, “Listen, if you want to diet for your health – fine. But I don’t ever want you thinking you’re ugly, because - honestly! cross my heart and hope to die! - you are-” (he leans forward and kisses you) “- gorgeous.”
Here’s the thing; mantras work. It’s impossible for them not to, if you think about it. A good mantra is an oath and a bargain and a lived story all in one. The only difference between a mantra and a pact with Them is that you pledge a mantra to yourself. And like anything else, you get back what you put in.
(“My anger a flame,” I hiss, and storm over to the boy on the bench with fury bubbling in my gut. The shadow looming behind him feels the wave of heat wash over it and scuttles off, hissing at me from the centipedes that pass for its hair.)
(“My kindness a forge,” I murmur, and sit down next to the glassy-eyed girl in the canteen. She lost a roommate last week, and I’m pretty sure she knows what happened. She’s broken up about it - but broken things can be fixed.)
(“Hope in my right hand,” I sigh, and pat the freshman’s shoulder. It’s okay, I tell him. It was a dumb mistake, but there are ways to make up credit, and the stats professor is an easygoing sort. His mood brightens with every word.)
(“Hate in my left,” I whisper, and slap the knight full across the face. He goes reeling backwards with a lot more force than I put into the blow, and the churning bitter loathing abates. It’s still his fault, but now I can think rationally again.)
Here’s the thing; mantras work. And here’s the catch: they work both ways. There’s always a price for power, after all, and it doesn’t come only when you call it.
(I read about the plight of refugees and suffer the burn marks along my knuckles and tongue - fire burns its friends as easily as its foes. I learn to be ambidextrous and switch between each hand as I write my essays - no longer can I pen cynical criticisms with my once-favoured fingers. I follow my bleeding heart’s demand to act, to fix, to build - I can no longer let things lie.)
A good mantra is an oath and a bargain and a lived story all at once; a pact you make with yourself. And a lived story only works as long as you live it. My roommate gives me a pleading look. I’ve met her little brother. He was a good kid. Just not a very smart one. And now he’s Underhill, in the hands of something a lot bigger and nastier than the usual residents of EU. I feel anger - at her, at him, at Them. I feel compassion - for her plight, for his peril. I feel hope, perhaps in vain. I feel hatred.
I feel really goddamn stupid, in retrospect, for picking this of all things as my mantra.
“Fine,” I mutter. “I’ll get him back.”
I really don’t have much of a choice in the matter.

A Million Reasons
Rolling over in the bed, you sigh, realizing Dean isn’t next to you. Not that you’d expect it, not lately. You know where he is. Either at a bar or in the library drinking whiskey, or passed out on whatever surface seemed the most appealing in a drunken stupor.
You can’t remember the last time he’s smiled at you, or held you or said a kind word. Lately, it had been a constant stream of arguments and tears. The pain was bone deep, the hurt, the rejection that you felt on a daily basis, it was wearing you down.
Trying to wait it out, trying to be supportive, giving him space, it was taking a toll on you. It was breaking you. You were running out of reasons to stay.
Sam hears her sobs through the bedroom door as he makes his way to the kitchen. He hesitates, his hand on the knob. He doesn’t know if he should try to comfort her or if he should give her the dignity of privacy.
What he does know is that it can’t keep going on this way. Dean is lost is his own grief, angry and bitter, hiding in his cups and taking his pain out on the both of them. She gets the brunt of it, and it kills Sam. She doesn’t deserve it.
Sam is just about to turn the knob when he hears the bunker door swing open and the heavy tread of Dean’s boot on the staircase. He shifts back and forth from foot to foot trying to decide which direction to go.
With a heavy sigh, he removes his hand from the knob and turns to confront his brother.
I just adore your art style, it's so cute! I'm thinking of making comics myself. Do you think you could give me some tips on angling or facial expressions or overall detail?
Thank you so so much! I really appreciate that! Like, a whole lot. ^^
I’m not exactly sure how much I’ll be able to help you, though I can at least give you some pointers on expressions! I’ll do my best. I’m sorry this is coming a bit late!
I’m going to use Bendy for my examples, just because he’s super easy to draw and I have him on hand/mind at the moment. But! These can be used on just about anyone.
Keep in mind: this is just my way of doing things. There isn’t one “set” way to create great art! There’s a lot of experimenting, testing and growing when it comes to artwork.
When it comes down to expressions, there are a few things to consider: what are they feeling? How intense is this feeling? How far can, or should you push it? How can you make this feel realistic? In visual storytelling, showing what a character is going through is far more important than telling the reader. In a comic setting, there’s a very fine balance–since you have images to go with the words, but you can’t convey each minute action… At least in a reasonable amount of panels, the dialogue and the images have to work together when they’re used in tandem.
When a character is shouting, you have to push their expression further–it won’t be enough to show them with their mouth slightly open, or with a flat face. Give them wide eyes, or shut their eyes completely with frustration. Open their mouth wide, maybe even get their body language involved if you have enough room. Throw their arms in the air, have them pulling at their hair!
Likewise, if what they’re saying is quiet or somber, soften their expression. Have their gaze ill-focused, or looking to the ground. Their shoulders could be slumped, their brow could be low. Their mouth could be almost, or entirely closed. Or are they happy? Raise their eyebrows, widen their eyes with joy! Bring out that smile! Use as much variety and as many shapes as you can!
Because I’m a visual person, here are a few examples to give you a better idea of what I mean:
(I’m sorry if my handwriting is hard to read)
Which facial expressions are more interesting? Sure, the ones on the left are going through the motions of emoting, but the ones to the right REALLY show how the character is feeling!
Body language is also immensely important when it comes down to expressiveness. Every part of the body can be used to convey a message. The crossing of arms can indicate disgust, or even put a small barrier between two people. Slumped shoulders show disappointment or sadness. Every little movement a character makes can have a massive impact on their overall tone. Here are a few examples like the above:
Even minute changes to a static pose can make a BIG difference! Test around and see what works best.
I’ve noticed that some animators have mirrors near their desk. This is so they can look up at their reflection and make a face into the mirror. They project their character’s feelings onto themselves, that way they can see what sort of facial expression would be best suited to that emotion. Nowadays we can just google this, but it’s still a good idea. Don’t be afraid to look up references whenever you need them. I know I do frequently! There’s no shame in using references!
I’m sorry I can’t help you quite as much with angles. I feel that I’d need to do a little more research in order to be able to articulate this more fluently. Perhaps some other time I can try and revisit this and go more into depth about perspective and foreshortening, but for now, here’s another great guide that might help you along in the right direction. I use a similar structure for my own drawings!
I know you didn’t ask for it, but I’d like to give you some tips about comic making. If you don’t want them, then I guess you can just stop reading, pfff. Either way I’ll put it under a cut so this post doesn’t take up so much of the dashboard.
