Please forgive me for what I’ve done to your masterpiece LMM, I just really wanted to draw a loyal as hell blue kid from a big family who always feels second best swooning over over a hotheaded, reckless orphan soldier with beautiful eyes
….but I went with Lance and Keith instead of Eliza and Alexander
I just wanted to be close to you, and I’ll never understand why that was so terrible… Why it was too much to ask. I wanted us to be an ‘us’… But that would have taken something more than you were capable of giving - It would have taken you loving me back the same way I loved you and you simply couldn’t do it…
I just wanted your favorite things to become my favorite things. I wanted to hear my phrases on your lips and hum the tunes you always got stuck in your head…. I wanted to take you to the places I’ve been that you’ve never seen… I wanted us to inspire each-other to do new things we’ve never done so we could experience the thrill of seeing or trying something for the first time through each-other.
I wanted us to share things; love, secrets, a home, a future…. I wanted your life to become my life. I wanted to meet the people you love and see all the wonderful qualities you saw in them - but more than that ….
I just wanted to BE one of them..

Despite his ruthlessness, I don’t want to believe he could be evil or cruel, I feel that even despite his at times ruthless heart, his heart is the most caring of all. What is your take on the subject of Julian’s ruthlessness and the limits he will cross when under difficult circumstances.
ontheroadtodisaster said: Hi Cassie !!!! I love your writing and it did change my outlook on the world. Are we going to see the dark side of Julian in Queen of Air and Darkness even more than we already did in the first two books and will it ever, under any circumstance be directed at Emma? And please assure me that QoAD will end in a nicely, wrapped up way and definately not with a cliffhanger . (I would love you even if it doesn’t :-) )
It’s hard to answer this question without entering Ye Olde Realm of Spoilers. I will tread carefully and say what I can.
My take on Julian and his ruthlessness is that when we meet him at twelve, he isn’t like that. He’s a pretty gentle and ordinary boy. We watch him change due to the incredible stress and trauma of the Dark War, and the first time I think we see him do something ruthless, or at least something that requires some real steel and emotionlessness, is when he kills his Endarkened father to save his siblings.
Having the care of those siblings for so many years and basically raising them has made him ruthless in the sense that he’ll do anything for them. And though he may be overprotective sometimes, he’s stood between them and the world to good effect for a long time. Without him, his siblings would have been split up and scattered to the winds. They would all be deeply unhappy and shattered to one extent or another, especially Ty.
So unfortunately what Jules has learned is that ruthlessness is effective: it protects the ones you love. And what he’s learned from his losses in Lord of Shadows is that he should be more ruthless … not less.
Absolutely Julian has a caring and loving heart. It’s just that the circle of those he loves and trusts is small and he’s very very careful about giving love or trust to those outside it. He’s very clear to Emma that the world is us versus them as far as he’s concerned because that’s what his experiences have taught him. Would he turn off every parabatai bond in the world to protect his siblings? Would he kill, and what would it cost him: would he only kill the guilty, or also the innocent?
Julian will definitely be faced with incredibly difficult choices. But keep in mind how his story differs from Malcolm's—Malcolm loved one person above all others, and in some ways isolated himself, even from his friends. Julian has never been able to do that. He’s too full of love for his family, for Emma, for Diana. He’s connected to his community in a way Malcolm wasn’t. Whatever paths Julian takes in the future, he has to reconcile those decisions with the love he has for his family and friends. Is Julian capable of cruelty and manipulation? Absolutely. But he’s also capable of great love and gentleness.
As for his ruthlessness being directed at Emma, he would never be violent or cruel to her or his family. It’s just not his nature, or the nature of his darkness.
QoAaD is a work in progress, so I can’t speak to specifics about the ways in which Julian’s ruthlessness comes out or how it affects the story. What I will tell you is that Julian uses some…unorthodox methods to deal with his emotional state.
Queen of Air and Darkness will wrap up the plot of TDA and be a satisfying end to the series. Some mysteries will be left unresolved and taken up again in the Wicked Powers, but TDA is written as a trilogy, and will be self contained as such.
(I HAVE SO MANY AT THIS POINT IT’S NOT EVEN FUNNY)
I was thinking about this before part 3 came out today, and the new one just seems to reaffirm it so far.
I’ve saidin the last one i did that it might be Jack and not Anti appearing in the glitches this time around, and he might be trying to actively communicate with us in whatever way he can.And the way I think he’s been doing so far is through WHEN EXACTLY he glitches in the videos.
Part 1 of detention: no actual glitches, except for the change of audio when Ray picks up the phone and “Jack” twitching his neck in the process. This occurs when he says “waiting.”
Part 2: There’s a glitch on “Uncomfortable” and his face pops up on “Afraid” and “Remember”.
Part 3: And now, with the newest ones, Jack pops on on “Inferno,” and “Weird and all over the place.”
So, what to make with all this you may ask?
Jack is almost definitely trapped in the glitched up place Anti was in before (or at the very least, definitely not with us rn). Jack wants us to remember that he was never saved after “SAY GOODBYE”. He’s been waiting MONTHS, tired afraid, confused and definitely uncomfortable in that inferno of a place.
He seems like he’s getting worn out and tired in the second pic. And as seen by the description, I think his spirit’s so broken rn, that the void’s starting to AFFECT HIM, MAKING HIM FEEL WEIRD AND POSSIBLY DETERIORATING THE OLD JACK TO A POINT WHERE HE’S ALMOST TOO FAR GONE TO SAVE?
SO, not only is Jack most likely trying to escape Anti, he’s also running out of time to do so before he becomes a broken shell of what he used to be. If we’re gonna save him, we have to figure something out as soon as possible.
today’s warmup - kind of a revision on an idea i had for a story when i was like, 12. from what i can remember it was something very loosely based on the little mermaid - but set in korea with a jellyfish princess.
1. USE REFERENCES. Not just one reference, but multiple references. Need to draw a cat? Create an entire board on Pinterest and load it with like, 50 pins of different types of cats - also different styles - see what other artists have done to caricature cats. This is what we had to for school - make Pinterest boards for ONE THING - and it REALLY helped.
2. Break everything down into basic shapes. Do not start off by drawing every little detail. If your foundation is faulty, the entire drawing will be faulty as well. One of my profs sometimes would call heavily detailed art “shiny turds” - meaning, no matter how many details you add on at the end, if thestructure and anatomy etcis off, no amount of detail will save it. Example: if you draw a person’s face, and the eyes and nose are in the wrong place, then no amount of eyelashes or make-up or whatever is going to make it look more accurate. If you spend 10 hours drawing something really detailed, and it’s wrong, then you might have just wasted 10 hours (maybe not wasted, but used less efficiently), when you could have spent say, a single hour making sure all the construction and anatomy made sense FIRST, before cleaning it up. Also, draw multiple rough passes at a drawing before you clean it up!! This will give your eyes and brain a chance to see any errors that pop up.
3. Don’t be afraid to RE-DRAW something. Your second drawing will be better than your first. Your third drawing will be better than your second AND your first. And so on. Try not to fall in love with everything you draw - likewise, learn to accept constructive criticism, so that you are able to re-draw it better than the first/second/third times. Reach out to peers and have them look at your art - you won’t believe how helpful a fresh set of eyes can be.
4. Flip your canvas horizontally to see errors/use a mirror/shine a light through and look at the reverse side. It is incredibly difficult to see errors in your drawing after you’ve been staring at it for hours. Your brain gets used to seeing what you’re seeing. Trick your brain into seeing something for the first time by looking at it differently. Likewise, you can try and look at it upside down maybe, or backwards. Engage your eyes and brain differently!
5. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRRAAAAACCTIIIIICCEEEE. Draw everything.Did you spend yesterday drawing people? Spend today drawing animals. Spend tomorrow drawing trees and plants. Draw a car. Go outside and draw from life. If you want to improve at a skill, practice all the time. Don’t burn yourself out! Manage your time wisely and pay attention to your body’s needs. Make time for stretching and exercising; a healthy lifestyle will ensure that you can continue to practice your skill, and be the best artist that you can be.
Anonymous said: what were your thoughts on holly blue?
I’ll keep the introduction short for this post. Holly Blue is the second Homeworld character introduced affiliated with Homeworld and a specific Diamond. The first character was Peridot. While the Rubies openly talk about their service to Yellow Diamond, they don’t share the deep investment that Holly Blue and Peridot have shown in the story.
It’s interesting looking at her character knowing what we do about Peridot now. So let’s get right into it!
1. Gem Placement
Anonymous said: What do you suppose Holly Blue Agate’s gem placement (the back of her head, at the base of her skull) symbolizes?
Going by anatomy, the back of the skull is where the occipital lobe of the brain is located. The occipital lobe functions not necessarily to let us see, but to help us make sense of what we’re seeing. That is, the occipital lobe helps us interpret and comprehend the images that our eyes are looking at.
And to me, there’s something interesting about every single moment we get to see Holly Blue’s gem in Gem Heist, when she’s first introduced. In those moments, she sees the CGs just as they’re doing something they’re not supposed to do, and each time, she misinterprets what happens and they don’t get caught.
The very first time we see her gem is when the CGs just arrive and try to convince the Amethysts of their credibility. That Sapphire isn’t a “disgraced” Homeworld defector and that she’s the leader of the entire operation bringing a new human for Blue Diamond’s Zoo. Holly Blue buys into this narrative completely and leads them exactly where they want to go.
The second time is immediately after Pearl is ordered to open the first door. Pearl makes a very un-Pearl face at Holly, who, with back turned, ignores it unknowingly, saving Pearl and Sapphire what could have been a heated questioning.
The third time, she and Sapphire walk in on the other CGs trying to destroy the door. And they look so obviously guilty, but Holly blames it on the Amethysts instead.
Close to the end of the episode, we have one more shot of her gem as the Amethysts take Steven away and he’s very loudly resisting. We know that’s a sign of the upturn that Steven causes later on, but Holly interprets it as a sign that things are running smoothly and going to be fine.
Note that none of these circumstances immediately signal to Holly that things are going wrong. The Zoo is a far off outpost that has been very low-key. Working there must be very quiet, save the occasional visit from BD. Holly wouldn’t be expecting trouble and that tinges the way she processes what goes on around her.
I’d say on a normal day, the Famethyst pulls a few pranks, Holly makes them clean up and then they train for a while. Holly goes around inspecting everything. And it’s boring. So when a noble gem shows up, Holly wants things to be the best they can be.
It’s a point in how our contexts tinge how we interpret what our senses tell us. In experiencing the world, there is definitely going to be an element of subjectivity. No two people experience the same scenario the same way because just from a physical standpoint, they’re never really in the same place at the same time.
I think this is especially true for Holly. Her gem, which I’ve mentioned before gives us an idea of how gems interact with the world, is behind her. That means she wants to be on top of everything, but she doesn’t face things directly when interacting with them. She’s always just a little bit behind on what’s going on.
Additionally, we’ve already seen a discrepancy between what she sees and what she makes of it. It implies that she’s out of touch with what’s happening on the ground. Extending it further, she’s a bit out of touch with herself. Functioning at her best, I’d say she’d be very perceptive. But that “gut feeling” has to be cultivated.
And being out of touch is a very real phenomenon. Holly is in the middle of nowhere. She doesn’t get to interact with a lot of gems and the gems she does interact with are ones she’s been with for thousands of years from very early on in their lives.
I’d say that she’s amazing at telling what the Famethyst are up to. She’s always suspicious of them, and that’s maybe because they’ve given her a reason to believe something is always brewing. If the mischievous character of our own Amethyst is anything to go by, poking fun at Holly’s uptight nature is something they’d be doing very frequently, even before the CGs came.
Holly can probably tell what the Famethyst are plotting even at a glance. She’s attuned to them, whether she wants to be or not. And that leads to the next point.
Oh golly goodness...I kinda sorta have wanted to do this for a while but...Mickey, Mun. I just...Wow. I have known and followed your work for like 3 years now on Miiverse and when I saw you had a Tumblr I about did a flip. I absolutely love the art (and of course the Mouse's overall personality)! I especially love how Mickey has the cute little scruff around his ears! Keep up the amazing art, and Mickey never stop hating Mario (even though I think you're more popular TBH). - <3 Bunny
Oh my, I cannot believe there’s someone who has followed and loved my art for so many years, I’m so honored and honestly it makes me so happy. I’m always glad to meet people from the others sites I used to share my art. Unfortunately, I have a terrible memory and I haven’t been on miiverse for a while so I can’t remember you… I- I don’t know if you’re going to see this but whoever you are “Bunny”Thank you so much!
“And of course, I’ll always hate that pesky plumbah!” -Micks
