Day One Hundred and Seven

-From over the walkie, I heard the most ominous and bone-chilling sentence I have yet to encounter in the workplace: “The chicken has gone to roost.” There are shady operations underfoot here of which I am not aware. I will investigate further and report back with my poultry findings.

-I stocked a shelf of diapers featuring a toddler in sunglasses, a crop top, and, as one would expect, a diaper. I am prepared to pronounce this the look of 2017.

-Tonight I decided to sport my new pair of pants for the first time. As a result, I discovered that the fly of these pants does not particularly like to stay up. My one regret is not having worn my dinosaur-covered boxers.

-A banana peel was found, carelessly thrown onto the floor. Much to my disappointment, the HR head picked it up and subsequently disposed of it before it could live up to its comedic potential. I am particularly let down, as it is not every night that one’s workplace becomes a Looney Tunes set.

-While browsing through anniversary cards on my break, I stumbled across categories such as “two dads” and “wife to wife.” All of these cards were terrible, as is par for the course when it comes to greeting cards, but I am thrilled to know that cheesiness transcends heteronormativity.

-A girl sobbed as her mother pushed her through the store, suddenly shouting, “I’m gonna grow up!” The mother stopped, deeply concerned, and asked if she meant that she was going to throw up. The girl shook her head and replied, “No, this is worse.”

-While checking the fitting rooms, I found a lost penny. It was tails up, however, I picked it up anyway. I am not a greedy man. I do not need more luck than a free penny.

-I found a sign marked “Pizza Hut URGENT” posted by the fitting rooms. I was unable to determine the body of the message due to a lack of interest, but if any urgent matters come up, I know now who to call first.

-I asked a manager what I should do were I to find someone hiding underneath the infants furniture display. She told me that she actually did not know, despite it being part of the closing procedure. A part of me now secretly hopes to find someone stowed away beneath the strollers, if only so I can get their input on what the proper response should be.

Yuri on Ice BD audio commentary translation - Volume 3

Translation of the audio commentary of the BD/DVD vol.3, by Mitsurou Kubo and Junichi Suwabe, voice actor of Victor Nikiforov. I really wanted to post this before the weekend because I’m not going to be home a lot, so I decided “well, I might just not sleep tonight and translate this instead”… This time there are some parts that I translated almost integrally. They talk a lot about Victor, especially Suwabe’s struggle to get into the role. It provides insight while at the same time not providing… since apparently it’s very hard to guess what is “right” when talking about Victor. I’m sure you will get what I mean if you read what they say…

The commentary is only for episode 6. Episode 5 has no commentary. It’s not a full translation but I summarized most of what they said, and as I wrote above some parts are almost completely translated. As in the previous ones, the format is different from normal interview translations, and you can find my comments too (mostly in brackets).

Translation under the post because it’s long. Enjoy!

Stelliums In Each House

What does a stellium in a particular house in an individual’s natal chart indicate about that person? I hope this quick guide will be helpful in giving the basics! For more info about what a stellium is see my post here.

1st house - A first house stellium will make a person focused on their own self identity and how they project that into the world. They can be gregarious, boisterous and good at getting things done. These people know how to charm others and to convey the image they want into the world. The sign the stellium is in will indicate what image the person wants to show others. For instance, a Pisces stellium in the first house will make a person want to come across as sensitive and charitable, while an Aries stellium in the first house will want to come across as independent and a go-getter. The exception to this rule is a first house stellium in Libra. Since there is an opposition to the seventh house (Libra’s home) you may see the opposite effect here, where the native is obsessively trying to draw attention away from themselves to others. A lot of celebrities have first house stelliums, especially those who are in the public eye frequently.

2nd house - Second house stelliums are always out for security. Security has a slightly different meaning to every individual, so whatever sign the stellium is in will show us how the individual seeks out this security. A Libra stellium in the second house will find security through partnership, whereas a Capricorn stellium will find security through money or career. This will be a major goal in the native’s life. A stellium in this house in Scorpio will make a different result here, however. The opposition to the eighth house, Scorpio’s home, may make someone who seeks security through destruction of the very thing that makes them feel secure. This person may seem to make rash decisions, i.e. quitting stable jobs, ending relationships that seem to be going well, etc. Overall, all people with second house stelliums are focused in the material realm, and many like nice possessions, a well-kept house, and being in touch with their bodies through art, sports or dance.

3rd house - Third house stelliums are all about communication. They have a message and they want to get it out to the world. They tend to be social beings, or fascinated by writing, reading, storytelling, songwriting, etc. How do they go about sharing their message? Look at the sign the stellium is in! Cancer stelliums in the third house come at conversation and writing through using their emotions, and noticing others’ feelings and subtle social cues. Aquarius stelliums will have unique, devil’s advocate style ideas and will enjoy bucking the social norm as they communicate. Again, there is one exception - Sagittarius stellium in the third house will create a weird opposition here where communication might be a little tricky. The expansive energy of Jupiter will make it difficult for the person to teach or share their knowledge; instead they will continually be seeking information, not feeling like they are ready to communicate. The overall presence of a third house stellium is someone who is chatty with varied interests and a restless mind.

4th house - Fourth house stellium people are intensely shaped by their home environment, either in childhood or in adulthood (or both). Their motivation is to find an anchor point - a place to settle. This is one of the more complicated houses to find a stellium, because there are many factors at play here. First, the presence of outer planets can completely change the interpretation. Uranus here can indicate someone who moves around a lot, while Pluto can represent a very unstable home situation. Saturn will show a lot of responsibility in the home, or even someone who is not free to move because of obligations (i.e. having to care for a family member, or supporting an entire group of people). The sign the stellium is in will show the type of home base the individual is seeking out. A Taurus stellium here will show a person who wants a stable home with nice things in it, or possibly in nature. A Virgo stellium will show someone who seeks out perfectionism and organization through their home and family. Anyone with a Capricorn stellium in the 4th house will have an opposition of energy, and will tend to reject the idea of nostalgic, Cancerian values that typically comes with a fourth house stellium. Nostalgia in general, attraction to the past, and emotions are heightened for all fourth house stellium natives.

5th house - Theatrical dramatics are present in those with fifth house stelliums. Creative energy is heightened, and these people often love children and animals. Fifth house stellium’s motivation is to create and express. Whatever sign the stellium is in will show us what they are trying to express and how they go about it. Gemini stellium in the fifth house will show someone who creates through writing or through public speaking/communication. They will be more vocal about their need to create. On the opposing end, someone with a Virgo stellium in the fifth house would express themselves a bit more subtly, and would work very hard on their individual creative contributions. Just because someone has a fifth house stellium does not automatically mean they are an artistic, theater-type person. They may have a flair that shows up in their career, or perhaps they are occupied with their children. It more speaks of the way they do the things they do - with a big, all-their-heart-in-it gesture. An Aquarius stellium in the fifth house will manifest differently, with them wanting to share the stage with friends, family and basically anyone else. These people will often support others’ creativity over their own.

6th house - You often see sixth house stelliums in the charts of service industry types, like doctors, nurses, etc (this is especially true if the moon is part of the stellium). These people could easily be described as workaholics. They are perfectionistic and responsible, and do everything they can to help others around them. They often put their own needs last. So though they are “workaholics”, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are spending all their time on their actual career and ignoring their families too. Those with sixth house stelliums will find a way to juggle everything. Their goal is to serve. If you look at what sign the stellium appears in you will see what their focus is primarily. A Leo stellium in the sixth house would make someone who is perfectionistic in a creative venture, like a writer or musician who will practice their craft till it’s perfect… they may also be focused on helping their children or pets at whatever cost necessary. An Aquarius stellium in the sixth house will manifest as someone who is always there for their friends, or who works tirelessly to help humanity in general. Sixth house stelliums are detail oriented and notice everything. The exception is a Pisces sixth house stellium. These folks, with the 6th-12th house opposition in place, will have a much more relaxed attitude and may be more ‘go with the flow’ than their sixth house stellium peers. They might have their heads in the clouds, or could potentially be obsessed with religion or spirituality.

7th house - Seventh house stellium people are pleasant, stylish and chameleon-esque. They tend to be agreeable, and it is not because they are two-faced, but rather because they can easily see all sides to any situation. They may be artistic or enjoy fashion, design or other Venus-ruled activities. Since Libra rules this house, partnership is important to them. They seek out connection wherever they go, and while it may not always be a romantic partner they are trying to find, they still are looking for a “partner” in anything they do. They will come up with inside jokes with people they meet, will network, and find a uniting factor between themselves and any given person. Someone with a Pisces stellium in the seventh house might be more apt to connect through dreams, wishes, and spirituality so would look for partnership through those avenues. On the other end, a Capricorn stellium in the seventh would try to connect through more serious matters or would network for their career or education. The opposite end of this is an Aries stellium in the seventh house. This oppositional energy will create someone who rejects the idea of partnership and who will sometimes overcompensate by asserting their individuality at any cost.

8th house - Eighth house stelliums are similar to fourth house stelliums in that they have a lot of factors to consider. Sometimes those with eighth house stelliums will have a lot of experience with intense change. Things might have been uprooted for them a lot, or they might have had a hard childhood or difficulty with relationships. They may experience a lot of death or tragedy around them, or just a lot of change and intense situations. The presence of Pluto, Uranus, Saturn or Neptune in this stellium could make this even more apparent. These people tend to be investigative, curious and sometimes very suspicious of the world around them. They are often intelligent and unusual, and sometimes intense. They may have interest in the occult or stranger sides of spirituality. They often have a powerful magnetism that draws people to them. You could not define someone with an eighth house stellium as mundane or dull. Look at the sign in the house to see what is drawn in to them. A Gemini stellium in the eighth house will manifest as a lightener for the Scorpio energy of the eighth house, and will allow the native to communicate their ideas. They will find themselves confronted with a lot of opportunities to talk about the things they experience. A Sagittarius stellium in the eighth will create a lot of occultism intrigue, and opportunity for travel. Those with a Taurus stellium will find an opposite reaction, in that they will hide and reject the “darker” parts of themselves and pretend they are simply not there, or become fearful of them.

9th house - A ninth house stellium often manifests as an innate curiosity about everything under the sun. The native here will enjoy learning, philosophy and travel as a means to discover new things. Novelty will be the main motivator, and loss of freedom the biggest discomfort. Often these individuals do better in a less rigid schooling environment, and may do a lot of studying on their own. They are usually optimistic, gregarious and a bit wacky or unusual. The idea of the unknown is overly appealing to them, so much so that a regular routine is unthinkable and binding in their eyes. Where do they look most for their freedom? Check the sign. A stellium in Libra will indicate a desire for freedom in romantic partnership. A stellium in Cancer will indicate a desire for freedom in living situations - they may bounce around a lot, or else they may fixate on the “perfect” home, one they don’t have yet. The opposite will be apparent in Gemini stelliums in the ninth house. These individuals will be more focused on teaching others and may ignore their own personal quest for freedom by giving it to everyone else.

10th house - Having a stellium in the tenth house will give you a solid foundation on which to stand. People with this particular stellium tend to enjoy being their own boss, or being independent from authority figures in general. They may have issues with a parental figure growing up. This house’s placement makes the native ambitious and no-nonsense. They get things done, and know the best path to take to get the most work done. This is the other “workaholic” house, after sixth house stelliums. Often you will see the person’s career show up in the sign their stellium is in. An Aries stellium, for instance, might be driven to be even more independent, and would perhaps excel in an arena that would bring the native fame. A Libra stellium would indicate success through partnership. You will see a difference when there is a Cancer stellium in the tenth house. This will create that oppositional energy I’ve mentioned above, and will result in someone whose ambitions are focused on their family. They may find it harder to excel in business or on a societal level. Overall, those with tenth house stelliums often do well financially and can manifest success in career with little effort (though they often work very hard).

11th house - A stellium in the eleventh house will equal out to be someone who is “everyone’s best friend”. These folks are the most social in the zodiac, and are always on the go. They try to please all their friends, and their friends become their family. They think about things in a big picture way, and enjoy projects that allow them and their friends to work together to make changes in the world. They could be involved in protests, or working to make changes in the community. Despite their love of socializing and meeting new people, they do have a hard time with consistent small talk. They like big ticket issues and enjoy thinking about things on a grand, Uranian scale. Someone with a Taurus stellium in the eleventh house would be all about living with friends, or maybe even starting a community living situation. They may get involved with art. A Pisces stellium in the eleventh house would often jive with others on a spiritual level. If a Leo stellium shows up, things will be different. The person will be much more focused on their own creative potential and could insist on working all alone. Every other sign combination will be a team player.

12th house - Stelliums in the twelfth house are behind the scenes type people. They are supportive, kind and spiritual. They may be a little out of touch with traditional reality, and take to daydreaming and mental exploration. Neptunian energy is strong here. Sometimes they may get in deep with spirituality or religion. There is a lot of healing potential for those with twelfth house stelliums. They may have unfulfilled dreams, but will help others reach their goals without question. Psychic ability could manifest here. Often twelfth house stelliums show areas of tremendous growth capabilities in this life. The sign of the stellium will show where the work needs to be focused. For instance, a Gemini stellium could indicate a need to open up and share opinions more, or to expand interests and horizons. A Libra stellium could show growth through partnership. In Virgo stelliums you will see more outward energy, and the person will be more rooted and less “dreamy”.

Hey, cis girl here and I was just wondering if you could do a post about general guidelines for cis people when talking to transgender people about being trans. I have a friend who has recently come out and I want to ask questions to understand better but I don't want to be rude? I get the don't talk about genitals thing but what about other stuff? Also I know this won't be universal and I totally get it if you don't want to respond or don't feel comfortable. I just don't want to mess this up.

This answer post linked here is a good place to start!

A basic outline, plus I think some other stuff:

  • Respect boundaries. Ask what they are, if they’re not specified.
  • If you want to ask questions about something particularly sensitive (family reactions, dysphoria, anything about their body), ask if it’s okay to ask them about it first.
  • Google it first, if it’s something that can be Googled (for example, information about how hormone therapy or surgeries work).
  • Generally do your homework before asking. Seriously. Unless it’s something totally unique to that person, there is a shit ton of information online. It also makes conversations deeper and more informative if you have prior knowledge and don’t have to be taught “Trans 101″ stuff already readily available online.
  • Keep your questions specific. (example I gave in that post: “Are you on hormones?” as opposed to “How far have you transitioned?”) This makes things a lot easier on both of you.
  • Familiarize yourself with current respectful terminology.
  • Don’t misgender them. Unless they specify otherwise, use their current pronouns / identity even when referring to them in the past prior to coming out. Keeping it gender neutral works, too (Ex: “When you were little” rather “When you were a little boy / a little girl”)
  • Use common sense.
  • Be mindful of where you are before asking questions about their transition. Is it a safe time to ask?
  • Don’t out them to anyone without their permission.

I hope this helps! Wishing the best for your friend. - Mod A

Ok I’m trying to get this OC out of my system so I can get back to drawing the gems everyone knows and loves. It’s not my fault, she’s really cute! Well, maybe it IS my fault, considering I created her…

I’m really flattered how many people seem to like her! The last picture I posted has over 300 notes already. You guys are so sweet!

Anyway. Under the cut I babble about what life is like for Aquamarine’s Pearl.

1. i don’t know how to say this so i’m just going to say it - don’t text me anymore. don’t call me. don’t ask me how i am when you feel lonely. don’t check up on me. don’t tell me you’re doing well. i don’t want to hear it. i don’t want to hear it because you fucking broke me. GOODBYE.

2. hey, okay, sooo i thought i could be friends with you but it hurts too much. not that you hurt me that much. no, i’m okay. i don’t cry in the shower anymore. some nights i actually fall asleep before 4 a.m. but then there’s some nights where i think about you and her kissing and it’s all that’s on my mind for days. no, no, it’s not like that. it’s not that i love you anymore or that i’m jealous. i just hate you for what you did to me. so yeah, anyways, just thought you should know i don’t want to be friends. hope you’re doing well though. maybe our paths will cross again.

3. i told myself many, many months ago that if i wanted this to work, if i wanted us to be friends, i couldn’t talk to you about my feelings ever again. i couldn’t turn every conversation into our failed relationship. so for many, many months, i’ve been letting it eat at me instead. i don’t want it to eat at me anymore and you don’t want to listen to me whine so i think this has to end. sorry.

4. hey, listen: some days i’m fine, but the smallest things get to me. like i’m pretty sure i saw you on her snapchat story. it’s none of my business, but i’m really mad at you for it. i’m really mad that you still talk to that girl you chose over me and you still like all of these girls’ facebook photos but you never like mine. and it’s not fair for me to be mad at you for having friends or being happy, i have no right to be, you didn’t do anything wrong. but it still gets to me, still eats away at me, still makes me want to knock down your door and ask you why the fuck you had to leave, why you had to do anything you did, why i poured all of my love into you that i didn’t have any left for myself and you took it and gave it to somebody else. god, this hurts. i don’t want you to know how badly this hurts but it does. i’m leaving you and taking this hurt with me.

5. hey, hope you’re doing well, but this still feels like a nightmare i’ll never wake up from. and i’m sorry, i’m so fucking sorry, it’s not fair to you to have to listen to this shit because it’s been two whole years and i’m still not over it. and that’s my problem, not yours. it will never be your fault that i’m so goddamn sensitive. i’ve never been able to get over anything and i hate myself for it. please let me heal. please leave.

6. hey, remember the summer where i hooked up with the first guy who wasn’t you, when you had me blocked on everything and i couldn’t see what you were up to? well, i still read my posts from that summer and i was actually HAPPY. can you believe that? i was actually going about my life without you and i wasn’t thinking about what you did to me. but here i am again, thinking about it and the only thing that’s changed is that you speak to me. and i would love to be friends with you, i would, i’ve been trying so hard to be for months, but it’s making me so damn miserable. and i’m so jealous that she gets to be friends with you and i don’t. i’m sorry i’m not her. i’m sorry i never will be.

7. i’ve been ignoring your messages on purpose and you keep texting me again and it’s exhausting to have to ignore you all of the time and feel so guilty about it. i just don’t understand how you just don’t get the hint. so here’s a bigger one: LEAVE ME ALONE.

8. hey, okay, i know this is sudden but i don’t want to hear from you anymore. i don’t want to think about this anymore. i want to move on with my life and there’s no room for you in it. it was stupid of me to think that just because you’ve always been a good friend to me that we can be friends. we can’t.

9. hey. first off, i want to say i’m sorry, i just need to do what’s best for me. secondly, thank you for always being there when i needed you, but i don’t need you anymore. for now, it has to be just me. it feels like i’m breaking up with you and we’re not even dating, but this is it - this is goodbye. forever. don’t contact me.

10. all you ever did was hurt me. fuck you. i don’t want to see your stupid fucking name on my phone anymore. fucking get out. leave.

samwiseofficial  asked:

Hey Alan! I just saw a post about different types of allistics on my dash... one of them was "The 'Ally'™". I'm allistic and I want to know how I can be a good ally, so I thought I'd ask about certain things mentioned in the post so i can avoid doing them! What are person first language and functioning labels and what can I do as an allistic to be an actual ally (not an “Ally"™)? Thanks so much!

okay, first of all, I’m going to assume that you meant [this post]. If not, sorry. Second, I’m not going to get this perfect. I’m viewing this as a bit of a first draft, which (note to self) I will edit at some point.

definitions: person-first language is “person with autism” as opposed to “autistic person”. Please use “autistic person”. I dealt with functioning labels later in this disorganized hell-post.

So here’s my stab at allistic ally 101

1) You follow the same rules as if you were an ally for any other group: [Here’s a pretty good ally 101 article], but it’s not the end-all-be-all. Keep listening to autistic voices, and if we contradict the rules hold our voices higher.

Also, above all, rule #1 of allyship is don’t be a shithead–come to conversations with the intention to listen and learn first and treat us like human beings (this is particularly critical with disability rights)

2) Our voices are the important ones: this is important with being an ally to any group, but autistic people often struggle to communicate or express ourselves. Be patient. Ask people how they’d like to communicate and be prepared to be a bit flexible.

Some autistic people use AAC (Alternative or Assistive Communication), and their voices matter just as much as verbal people’s. You don’t have to learn ASL or anything, but don’t assume that because someone’s not communicating verbally they’re less intelligent or competent. And, even if someone can’t communicate using language (or communicate at all) don’t assume that they don’t have thoughts, feelings, and needs.

3) Nothing about us without us: knowing an autistic person doesn’t make you an expert on autism. BEING an autistic person makes you an expert on autism. If you see anything claiming to help autistic people that doesn’t prominently feature Actual Autistic People, don’t support it (unless Actual Autistic People are telling you to support it, see #2)

This goes double for any charitable organization focused on autism which leads me into point number 4 (also from here on out things are a bit smaller-scope, that doesn’t make them less important):

4) Autism Speaks is trash: [and] [here] [are] [some] [sources

If you want to support charities try ASAN and The Autism Women’s Network

5) Please don’t try to “cure” us: I’m dealing with some internalized ableism with this one, so let me turn you over to  Anya Ustaszewski who in [this article] writes:

My autism is part of who I am. It is not something “extra” that can be taken away from me to suit the agenda of an intolerant society. My abilities, challenges and perception of the world all go hand in hand. If I were to be “cured” of my autism, the person that I am would cease to exist.

so yeah cure = bad, acceptance and accommodation = good

6) Celebrate the things that make autistics unique: lately, tumblr has gotten a lot more stim-positive, but stimming isn’t solely a pretty, paint-mixing or slime video (in fact, stimboards are rarely tagged and can overstimulate the SHIT out of me).

A lot of time, stimming is viewed as ugly, distracting, loud, disgusting, or socially unacceptable. Support your local autistics, don’t expect people to stop stimming and try not to stare or comment (many autistic people have to work very hard to reclaim stimming after childhoods of expecting to suppress it entirely).

Also, try your best to support different cognitive styles and processing issues. Try to keep your websites accessible, provide image transcripts, try not to make posts that are entirely text in images (like screenshots of twitter posts), and help to subtitle videos if you can. <- these things also help d/Deaf people and anyone who accesses the internet via a screenreader

7) steer clear of stereotypes: I’m not rain man or that dude on the big bang theory or your cousin’s dentist’s sister’s younger brother’s son. The ‘idiot savant’ stereotype is almost never true and puts unreasonable expectations on autistic people. Also, not all of us are good at math or science, have incredible memories, etc. Fitting or not fitting stereotypes don’t change the fact that every autistic person is human and deserves rights and respect.

8) functioning labels are fake: never listen to anyone who describes autism as “high” or “low functioning”. Every autistic person has struggles, and putting labels on functioning basically sorts people into “can be ignored” and “subhuman”. [here’s about a million posts about why they suck because if I put it all here this post would be five times as long]

9) ABA is trash: this is trigger territory for a huge number of autistic people, so [here] and I’m not going to say anything else just take my word on this one

10) If it has puzzle pieces on it, run: if you’re looking to see if a group is okay, look for the rainbow infinity sign. The puzzle piece is a huge red flag. Please don’t support anything with puzzle pieces on it. Please. I’m begging you.

Okay that was WAAY longer than I meant it to get, sorry. Also, I’ve missed a bunch of things, but I’ve been working on this for an hour and I don’t have the energy to add more. I’ll throw this in #actuallyautistic and hopefully someone else can add anything important I missed.

What Are Glamours

Glamours are a type of magic meant to change the way you are perceived by others. This can mean anything from making you seem more attractive, to more intimidating, to even letting you blend in with your surroundings. With all the different possible applications, this is the type of magic I have found to be the most useful

How They Work (Note: In my opinion. Yours may vary)

Imagine that there’s an aura of energy that surrounds you and is completely unique, like a signature. This energy acts like a filter for how people see you (as described in this post). Change the filter, and it will change the way others perceive you without actually changing your appearance at all.

This can be done a million different ways. I find it helpful to get familiar with your energy first. Meditate, and imagine what that energy around you might look like. What color is it? What texture? How much space does it take up? Once you have a good idea of what it looks like, it becomes a lot easier to manipulate.

How To Do Them

There are about as many different ways to do glamours as there are witches. Do some exploring to see what works for you. Do you like makeup? When you get dolled up, visualize the makeup going onto your energy. Are you a jewelry person? Push the energy you want to give off into the jewelry and wear it. I personally like to add a physical aspect to my glamours, but that’s not even necessary; you could simply imagine your energy changing in the way you want to.

Glamours generally stay on as long as you are putting energy into them. Most tend to go away as you stop thinking about them, but I have done glamours before that tapped into my energy for far too long and had to be consciously removed. If you find this happening, cleansing yourself and then grounding will usually do the trick.

gravegh0st  asked:

can you talk some more about Dishonoured? (is that the game?) I'm so confused but everyone seems very excited(?) about something? Sorry, my autistic ass is so confused lmao

Oh boy can I.

Hello friend, welcome to the collective freakout that is the Dishonored fandom going “wait WHAT, OH MY GOD YES!!”

Dishonored is a stealth sneaky sneaky magic/stabby game which came out back in 2012. The premise is, without giving too much away, thatyou are the personal bodyguard to Empress Jessamine who is murdered in front of you by a man named Daud. Princess Emily is also kidnapped and they vanish into literal thin air, and you’re left behind to hold Jessamine in your arms as she dies. You are then framed for her murder and spend the rest of game trying to regain your honor, find Emily and restore balance to the Empire. How you do that is all on you.

You can either ghost through the world on silent sneaky feet without shedding a single drop of blood and show mercy (sort of) to those who have wronged you, or you can finish what others have started and watch the world burn.

The Outsider everyone is talking about, is an ancient god entity from the Void who chooses to give you supernatural powers to aide you in your endeavors, how much you use them or how little, is up to you. It’s sort of like the immortal eldritch equivalent of binge watching a new show on Netflix. Everyone else he previously Marked is boring and predictable, but you, oh you with grief and murder and love in your heart, you could be fun.

If you do the predicted “kill everything in your path” outcome, he’s unsurprised but still moderately entertained and thanks you for the show. If you opt not to kill anyone, he’s somewhat wryly amused that you proved him wrong, and tells you he’s enjoyed watching, and I cannot stress enough how much I LOVE the moral functioning code in Dishonored (the Chaos ranking). It is to my mind one of the only few games that boasts a truly nuanced approach to morality and how we interact with the world around us by showing us the subtle and not to subtle ways in which our actions affect the world we live in. The literal difference between a childs drawings and the fall of an Empire.

It is worth pointing out that Corvo’s actions, despite non chaotic, are not always good. He is adhering to a personal code of morality which is acted out by you the player. Mercy and honor are not synonymous with Good, just like revenge and justice are not the same thing but often mistaken for two sides of the same coin.

There is instead a kind of poetic justice to a lot of the things he does, making them satisfying to watch, but without actually crossing the line into being “just as bad as them”. You can of course also be, just as bad as them. There are a million and one ways to make someone die in this game, and you can do it with as much or as little finesse as you like.

If you are low chaos, ie you sneak around and find ways to complete your goals without killing anyone, the world will be…it will still be bad, but things will be a little kinder. People will be softer, they will strive to do better. More people will survive. There is less fear in the streets, people will know about a masked man, but they’ll hear the stories, yea, the whole garrison, the whole garrison put to sleep with some kind of dart—and did you hear about what the High Overseer was actually doing though??? What a monster…

If however you opt for stabby stabby murder central, the game becomes collectively harder. There will be more rats, there will be more guards who are more hostile and alert. But the good people in the game, the people who are truly good, will become afraid of you, will become twisted and cynical. And it’s fucking chilling. Like, it’s just…hhnnngh, it’s so subtle right up until it’s not it’s like a punch to the gut. I love it.

I still remember the first time I played the game and Samuel called me a bad person and that he hated me, I was like “but, but…I didn’t…I chose to be merciful! those people did awful things and I was merciful!” and then it hit me…I wasn’t. I wasn’t merciful, I wasn’t good. I still stood on the precipice over Hell and I chose to spare some people under the guise of morality and my own righteousness, while slaughtering countless others who got in my path. What made those people any less important to me than a main NPC? They weren’t. They were still People in the world I was in. And I killed them. I didn’t even try to find a way not to. I just treated them like the result of a world gone mad around me and waded through blood, like my survival meant the inevitability of their death. I treated them with the same non-thought with which the blatantly morally corrupt NPcharacters had treated me and countless others like me.

And that is some Avatar The Last Airbender shit right there. That’s Aang on the mountain and giant lion sea turtles right there. It’s Pratchett with Sam Vimes in the deep down dark holding and axe and Granny Weatherwax who stares into the depths of her soul and comes up swinging for the light. It’s wonderful and it gives me chills just remembering the first time it happened and I had paused the game to go “what…no!” and the enormity of it hit me. It completely changed the way I play the game, most games, actually. And I get frustrated with other sneaky games with supposed moral coding that don’t hold me to that same level of accountability, or don’t even allow me to try.

And then the DLC comes out and you’re playing as Daud, the assassin who killed the empress and he’s having a fucking moral melt down. He’s having nightmares about it, battling against the clock to make amends and set things right before Corvo catches up with him and kills him, and you can either play with the same ruthless disregard for life that lead you to these circumstances or…or you can tread a little lighter, a little softer. All the while knowing your life ultimately hangs in the balance. And as you the player, knowing how his fate ends depending on how you played as Corvo.

Dishonored 2 operates on the same pretenses, except it’s some years later, and you have the choice to play as either Corvo or Emily. Ousted from your home, you have to make your way to Karnaca to restore order, and defeat the people who planned the coup before returning home to reclaim the throne. How you do that? Again, that’s up to you. You can either rage and lash out in a world where cruelty thrives—you can be ruthless and merciless—or you can find another way.

I’ll be really interested to see what goes on with this new Daud and Billie (Daud’s right hand in the first game) expansion of the universe. What choices are canon and which ones are not, and how they will affect the world of Dunwall as we know it. I already have a theory about why they want to kill the Outsider, but I wont say just yet. All I know is it looks like we get to play as Billie, and I am 100% here for That.

Truth or Dare? | Zach Dempsey x Reader

Genre: Romance, Fluff
POV: Reader’s/First Person

A/N: Hi everyone! I was finally able to write another imagine! This wasn’t requested though, the idea just suddenly popped into my head and I just ran through with it haha. I’m gonna get the requests started so that I can post them soon and re-open my ask box for more requests. I hope you enjoy this one. It’s a bit short and straight to the point lol.

Overview: Reader likes Zach. Zach likes reader. Their friends think they should date and they all end up playing spin the bottle. What could possibly go wrong? Or perhaps, what could possibly go right?

—–

“Hey Y/N, you should totally come to Jessica’s party later.” Justin says as he nudges my arm.

“Hmm, yeah sure I guess. I mean I don’t have anything to do tomorrow anyway so sure, I’ll come.” I reply with a small smile.

“Really!? That’s great!” he replies his fists throwing up in the air in joy.

“Calm down Justin. Uhm, who else is coming?” I ask and let out a laugh.

“Just the usual, Hannah, Clay, Sheri, Alex, Monty, Tony, Jeff, Zach.” he answers.

Zach?! Zach is coming?” I reply as my eyes widen in shock.

Zach, Zachary Dempsey. How do I begin to describe Zach? 6foot3 in height, dark brown hair, milk chocolate colored eyes, plump lips, nose accurately shaped by the Gods, and his smile, oh his perfect smile. He was the captain of the basketball team in our school.

Every single girl in our school swooned over his presence, you can almost hear their hearts race whenever he walks through the hallway. Almost all of the girls had a crush on him, and all of them had no chance with him, and that included me. Although he was this popular, social butterfly in our school, he still kept the right amount of distance to others, which made him seem mysterious and cold.

We’ve always been close, and he was one of the people I often share my secrets too. In our group of friends, Zach and I always get teased. They’d always tell us that we should go out, we should date each other and stuff like that, but for some reason it never actually happens. I’ve heard some of my friends say that he liked me, and I mean like, like, not as a friend but as something more, but I just ignore them. I mean, yeah, I like him too, but I’m just not the kind of person to make the first move. I kind of like what we have now, we’re really close, special friends and I like how comfortable I am whenever I’m with him.

Everytime he’d flash his smile at me, everytime I’d tease him because he’s abnormally tall for his age, everytime he’d give me a back hug, everytime he’d feed me food when I’m busy, everytime he’d whine when I beat him in a video game, all of the little things made me fall more and more in love with him everyday. It’s just a shame that I can’t confess to him and that he hasn’t tried telling me what he feels too, if ever he did feel anything for me.

“Y/N.” Justin calls my name.

“Y/N!” he snaps his fingers in front of my face as I awaken to reality and realize I’ve been staring blankly, thinking about Zach.

“Oh! I’m sorry.” I jump as I give him a faint smile.

“The bell just rang.” he says as he stands up from his seat and laughs at me.

“Oh it did? Ugh, sorry I was kind of lost for a moment there.” I reply as I stand up to get my backpack.

“I’ll see you at Jess’ later, okay?” he says as we walk side by side to leave the classroom.

“Oh yeah okay. See you later!” I reply as I wave my hand goodbye and walk to the other direction to my next class.

In Storybrooke of all places you’d think that Emma’s first conclusion would be ‘something bad happened to him’.  A stable person without such a fear of abandonment would absolutely worry about that first before deciding that they’ve been abandoned.  But Emma,  my poor darling Emma,  this is what ALWAYS happens.

He just left seems the most logical choice because… they always leave.

DO YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?????

WE GET TO FACE BOTH OF THEIR GREATEST FEARS.  KILLIAN FACES HIS FEAR OF NOT BEING GOOD ENOUGH AND EMMA FACING HER FEAR OF BEING ABANDONED.  IN ONE EPIC REUNION.

If I focus on that hard enough I can possibly… possibly turn off the caps lock.

anonymous asked:

Hi, I have a fiddly question and I was pointed your direction. (Blame Punchy). When someone says - this is re: black panther - that a thing "does not belong to (x kind of person)"...what does that mean? I. I've never felt ownership of a piece of media in my life, and I don't understand what I'm not supposed to be doing here.

ooh. fiddly indeed!

i think there’s often a sense in fandom of, like… “because this is my private hobby, it is just for me.” which is true! you can do fandom any way you like. the trouble is, some people then jump to “because it is my private personal playtime fun, it doesn’t affect other people and they don’t get to have any say in how i do it,” which is not true.

the war between these two notions– the first being that fandom is a hobby and i can do what i want, the second being community members have a right to safety in their community– is how you get things like reylos vs antis, arguments over whether and how people should post explicit fanart if it’s for children’s shows like steven universe, and fights over what counts as censorship when it comes to tagging and trigger warnings

tumblr is a place where people who like diverse media types, regardless of to whom it was marketed or intended, can talk about the thing. but every property has an intended audience, every property has fans for whom the stakes are biggest, the investment most passionate and in some cases dire

steven universe belongs to children. it should be safe for them to be in SU fandom without having to look at gem boobs or being told that, uh, if they don’t support violent revolution they are part of the problem

likewise– black panther belongs to black folks. they’ve waited long enough. there is no other thing out there that can do for this audience what black panther will do for them. and so it’s important for us as white fans to think about… volume. that it’s possible to shout for joy without drowning out others who have waited longer to be heard.

we talk a lot about the “secure your own oxygen mask before helping the person next to you” analogy when discussing mental health and self care. but when it’s an inter-community issue, a representation issue, i think we have to come at it a different way. the “let people with babies or mobility issues have the seat on the subway” approach. which is to say: some people should be given more access to a comfortable environment based on circumstance. in this instance, black folks in fandom shouldn’t have to be on the defense when they’re interacting with all things black panther.

let the movie stand on its own. don’t bring your white faves into it, or focus only on the white people in it. don’t appropriate AAVE when discussing black panther to try to fit in– there are plenty of people who can say with authority that wakanda is lit, they do not need you to say it. and uh, if you’re tempted to somehow say something like “actually black panther is racist,” maybe don’t.

the fact that you’re so baffled about what this sense of entitlement would look like is an encouraging sign that you’re not a participant in it, but in general, when trying to parse a sentence like “this thing does not belong to x kind of person,” ask yourself if you’ve ever seen anything like the thing before– if you got to grow up seeing images like that thing. if the answer is no, let the people who needed it most be loudest.

i hope that helps!

ETA: also, the source and content creator matters! the fact that black panther has a black director is a huge deal– it means that black panther literally was not created for the white gaze, that inherent to its creation was an implicit understanding of what it’s like to be seen and be black, of black bodies in motion, of black voices. we’ve seen this from queer content creators and from women content creators, and we’ve respected it then, and felt it. this is no different

The Most Important Writing Tips

There are a million and a half different writing tips and tricks, and I try to post as many as I can as they come to me. Thus far, when it comes to being a writer, these are the most important tips to keep in mind.

  • Write What You Want

It’s your book. It’s your vision. No one else can write it for you, and if you don’t satisfy yourself first then there’s little point in writing at all. People are going to have different opinions on everything. No matter what you do, some people will probably think your writing is weird, or gross, or whatever they’re going to think, and you can’t help that. Get over it now and do what you want; you’ll be happier with your book in the end.

  • Recognize Constructive Criticism

Constructive criticism will cite specific examples of issues in your writing and offer potential solutions. “I didn’t like it,” is a personal opinion, not objective critique. “I think the pacing in chapter five was off, maybe you could expand upon this part,” is potentially valuable advice–but you don’t necessarily have to follow it.

  • JUST DO IT

You will never finish if you don’t start. While it’s always good to have some idea of how things are going to go from the very beginning, the first draft is part of that process, too. I find that true understanding of the plot, characters, world, and message(s) don’t come until after the first draft is done. The first draft doesn’t have to be perfect so don’t hold yourself back from starting because you’re worried it won’t be amazing from the get-go. Set time in your schedule to write, then write, no excuses.

  • Carry A Small Notebook Everywhere

There will undoubtedly be times when you have a great idea and literally cannot physically write it down for various reasons, but generally having a notebook handy reduces instances of this by a ton.

  • Read Whenever Possible

People have busy lives and authors are no different, but reading is essential to the craft. Make time for reading just like you make time for writing, even if you only find yourself able to read one or two books a month. At least you’ll be reading.

applications now open for the fanauthor workshop!

thank you to everyone who participated in my survey a few months ago about the fanauthor workshop, my (@bettydays) upcoming independent study in which i’ll be leading an MFA-style online workshop specifically for fanauthors.

unfortunately, due to the constraints of the workshop model, i will only be able to accept a limited number of applicants, which is why i’m running an application process. here’s all the information you’ll need to decide if you’d like to apply, and how to go about applying.

both the workshop and application are free. i am doing this for graduate credit in lieu of a literature seminar this semester.

what is a workshop?

a creative writing workshop is a round-table style discussion about writing. specifically, you read a peer’s work in advance of the meeting, and then we discuss the piece, offering constructive criticism, while the writer listens and takes notes. prior to the meeting, you also write a letter of critique to the writer.

when and where is the workshop?

the full workshop will begin on September 4, 2017. there will be about a dozen participants, depending on how many applications i receive. ideally we will meet on Sunday evenings around 7 - 9pm EST via Google Hangout, but i am absolutely willing to negotiate meeting times. if you have evenings and/or weekends mostly free, please still consider applying, even if Sundays specifically don’t work for you. you can let me know any constraints you have in the google doc linked below.

why are you doing this?

fanfiction taught me how to write and i have immense respect for it as a genre. i think fanauthors do amazing literary work, and i’d like to take what i’ve learned from my MFA so far and bring it back to the community that fostered my passion for writing.

moreover, i like talking about writing. like, a lot. i thought it might be pretty fun to get class credit for meeting up with fanpeople once a week to talk about fic.

what would i get out of it?

ideally:

  • a bunch of new friends
  • constructive criticism on your writing
  • a polished piece of fanfic to post to an AO3 collection
  • (if fall workshop) a polished piece of original fiction to submit for publication or to other workshops
  • a platform in which to ask questions you have about writing, publishing, etc.
  • more comfort providing feedback to other writers
  • being part of something cool and weird
  • providing input for my craft essay on fanfic as a literary genre, which i plan to publish
  • the satisfaction of helping me become a better teacher

the summer trial workshop

the summer trial workshop will be held the weeks of August 21 and 28 (tentatively). we will meet two or three times for two hours apiece.

you can apply for this if you only want feedback on a short piece of writing, either fanfic or ofic, with a very small group of people. 4-6 participants will be pitching any type of work up to 10k words, and we will meet twice to workshop and go through any bumps in the process. you will read and provide feedback on a total of 3 other pieces, receive crit on one, and fill out a survey at the end giving me feedback on the overall process so i can tweak it for the full semester.

the fall fanauthor workshop

we will meet 14 times over the span of as many weeks starting September 4 (provided i get all the bumps fixed from the trial run), again for approximately 2 hours apiece. during these sessions, we will workshop two pieces and also have a short craft discussion.

prior to each session, you will have to read both pieces, provide marginal comments in the shared document, and write a short letter of criticism to the author. i anticipate the workload will take approximately 5 hours a week of your time, not including the hours you spend writing your own pieces.

each participant will be workshopped twice. there will be two cycles: one for fanfiction and one for “original” fiction (ofic).

cycle 1: fanfiction

you will write one fic up to 10k words to share. any ship, any fandom, any content. you must also be willing to read any ship and any fandom. if you have triggers, we can discuss and work out a content warning system as necessary at the beginning of the semester.

our craft discussions during this cycle will revolve around defining fanfiction as a literary genre. i will be taking this insight and writing a final craft essay at the end of the semester as my independent study final.

at the end of the semester, you can revise your fanfic piece and we’ll make an AO3 collection of our work.

cycle 2: original fiction

you will write one piece of ofic up to 10k words to share. this can be anything you want it to be. the goal of this cycle is to workshop a piece of original fiction to either apply to programs/workshops with or submit for publication/writing contests.

our discussions during this cycle will revolve around the publication process and any other questions that come up. we will also be reading published original pieces of my choosing and discussing them from a craft perspective.

should i apply?

  • yes, if you:
    • have 5 hours a week to spare this fall and can meet mostly at the designated meeting time one evening per week (it’s ok to miss one or two for emergencies, etc)
    • are over the age of 18
    • want to improve your writing and help your peers improve theirs
    • are interested in discussing writing with like-minded individuals
    • are willing to chat with us via webcam
  • but what if i don’t have a piece of original fiction ready?
    • that’s ok, you’ll have 6 weeks of fanfiction workshopping to prepare an ofic piece
  • but what if i’m not a student?
    • you don’t need to be. the workshop is open to everyone.
  • but what if i don’t want to post to AO3 at the end or submit my original fiction anywhere?
    • that’s okay, it’s completely voluntary.
  • but what if i suck at writing?
    • you don’t. and anyway, the whole point of a workshop is to get better.
  • but what if i write really dark stuff?
    • hey man, so do i. it’s all chill.
  • but what if english isn’t my first language?
    • apply anyway. usage/grammar errors can be fixed and i won’t be harping on them in the application process. as long as i can understand what’s being written, that’s what counts.
  • but what if–
    • APPLY.

to apply, please fill out this google form. applications are due july 31, 2017.

if you have questions, please feel free to send me an ask
