first headline tour

“She’s My Cherry-Pie.”

Summary: The music industry wasn’t all roses and rainbows. Y/N had learned from the start that if she was going to excel, she had no time for fuckboys and distractions. She was here to make a name for herself and her band… but sometimes, frontmen with bright blue eyes and cocky smirks were a little too hard to resists. When Y/N bumps into Andy backstage, she learns that the hard way.

You made me feel. Thank you for being your honest selves and letting go with me. What an incredible first headlining tour. I can’t wait to continue it in 2017 and see the rest of you. What we have is special to me, thank you. 💚 #onebadnighttour #tobecontinued

‘’Sometimes I get tired, but I love being on the road and feeling the energy and love from an audience. I embarked on my first headlining tour last year and every show was sold out, and I’m thankful to my fans for being there. I’ve opened up for a lot of country headliners, and having had the chance to feel that crowd screaming for me, and at a volume level I’ve never experienced before, was amazing. I never want to get to the point where success and award nominations seem like stuff that happens every day. My parents taught me that the world doesn’t owe you anything and you have to work for everything you get, and you have to appreciative of success.’’

We went on our very first headlining tour a few years ago, and I used to stand there before I would go on stage and I’d listen to the crowd making the most amazing, magical, loud screaming sounds. And I’d hear it and first of all I would sit there and think “I can’t believe I get to hear that sound one time in my life.” And then I would get a melody stuck in my head and I could never get this melody out of my head until I finally wrote it into a song and I called that song long live.

In August of 2005, a 4 piece band out of Las Vegas began a meteoric rise to the top of the music charts, embarking on their first tour, with some friends of mine who were on their first ever headlining tour. Within 10 months, the status of both of these bands would be drastically different. My friend’s band called it quits in May of 2006 and this 4 piece from Vegas was on the top of the world. They’re still touring, 3 full albums later, having seen lineup changes, marriages, and all the typical internet babble about how they’re “not as good as they were on their first album.” The only constant through all of this, has been the singer, who may as well BE the band at this point. He writes, records, and uses his voice in an incredibly powerful way that actually needs to be seen live to fully appreciate it. I only see him once a year at best anymore, but every time I do, he is always so genuinely nice to be around. I guess at this point, I’ve been around him for around 8 years, on and off, cutting hair for him from Seattle to Austin and yesterday was the first time I’ve photographed for him. Out of all the photos I shot, I believe this one captures him best. He laughs a lot and I caught him absolutely geekin’ out to Wu-Tang Clan on stage behind us. This photo is so full of life and energy, which is why I’m sharing.

iamhalsey: On my very first headline tour. My short self climbing on a table to check my outfit in the mirror. It’s hard to believe the American Youth Tour was just about a year ago. It’s insane to think that I was playing to 200 people a night and thinking “gosh could it get any better than this?!” And it did. It got bigger and louder. It got massive. And this summer I get to play to tens of thousands of you and I know that every night I’ll check out my outfit in the mirror and hear those first few notes of Gasoline and think to myself “It doesn’t get any better than this.” So thank you. For everything. I can’t wait to bring you the show you deserve. This summer. The final installment.

Gerard rambling. mentions his daughter Bandit (which is why the crowd starts screaming), says the words “homegirl” and “ballbuster,” sounds fucking adorable

Can you please elaborate the myrtle beach thing?

Oh my goodness my sweet child yes of course this is my favourite topic of conversation

On Panic!’s first headlining tour in 2006 (june 24th, to be precise), when everything was beautiful and nothing hurt, they played Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

This was back when they had the circus performers and during the in-between song bit they’d have performers come out and tell the band’s “secrets” (eg. ryan was a blackbelt). Brendon’s “secret” was that he was a virgin.

On June 24th, 2006, the lady (dusty, I believe) who was telling Brendon’s “secret” every night posted this to her blog:

June 24th, 2006

…this finally turned into a crazy rock tour… lots of shenanigans happened tonight… but I’ll save this story for the memoirs! Every night I stand on stage and tell the crowd that Brendon is a virgin… let’s just put it this way… it ain’t true!!!!

Greta Salpeter from the Hush Sound (my one true love), upon being asked about her craziest touring experience, said this:

Q: Tell us about your craziest touring experience.
On the 2006 Panic Tour, we played the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach [JUNE 24TH]. After the show, most of the bands and crew walked a mile to the beach and, having not brought our swimsuits, decided to swim in underwear or totally nude. Bob and I opted to skinny dip and, at one point, he was trying to get back to the shore but the waves were crashing over him and he was gasping for breath. I yelled to him, ‘Bob, are you going to live? As much as I want to help you, we are both naked so I can’t.’ (Would have been far too awkward). Thankfully, he survived in one glorious piece.

Basically Panic! and their support all went swimming naked yadda yadda yadda shenanigans just a Fun Time

BUT WAIT

In the early hours of morning, my son Ryan Ross posted this (which is honestly v beautiful and i think about it a lot) to his livejournal:

The moon bred new Atlantic life tonight.the salt burned you right out of my eyes.and secrets we’re not proud of were taken with the tide. We were all newborns with blurred vision and no sense of direction.
Today I saw cancer, cigarettes and shortness of breath. this is why I walk to the ocean.swim with jellyfish.I may never get this chance again. this is why if you want to kiss you should kiss. If you want to cry you should cry, and if you want to live you should live. You don’t have to love me. You already did. At least enough to keep me smiling from South Carolina to Virginia.it’s for lovers (orjustfriends) This is why I do it.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO LOVE ME. YOU ALREADY DID. AT LEAST ENOUGH TO KEEP ME SMILING FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO VIRGINIA. IT’S FOR LOVERS (ORJUSTFRIENDS) THIS IS WHY I DO IT.

think abt this. think abt it. are you done? ok.

ryan wrote this after the Skinny Dipping Shenanigans, meaning he was probably thinking about it before then (while swimming NAKED) like wtf is this?????? he was so heart eyes emoji it’s ridiculous i hate this band and i hate myself

what is the myrtle beach thing??

oh my god!!!! you sweet summer child!!!! you poor thing!! im so sorry!!

myrtle beach, south carolina. june 24th, 2006. on panic!’s first headlining tour.

as everyone pretty much knows, panic! had a lot of onstage performers, and one of them was a lovely lady known as dusty. on her blog, she posted this:

so here’s some context to that… onstage every night, they would do little skits in between songs, and one of them was dusty revealing “secrets” about the band. ryan’s “secret” was that he was a black belt (untrue), brendon’s “secret” was that he was a virgin (also untrue). so dusty saying “let’s just put it this way, it ain’t true!!!!!” is her talking about brendon acting particularly slutty and ridiculous in a way that we now know brendon is wont to do.

moving on.

greta from the hush sound was asked in an interview about the 2006 tour with panic!, and here is what she had to say about that night:

this is what dusty was talking about when she said “lots of shenanigans happened tonight.” the band and the support went swimming naked in the ocean. pretty innocent enough.

except for the fact that ryan posted this on livejournal that night. the time says 1:21 pdt, which means it was posted a bit past 4am est…

dude!!! what is this!! what is this fucking thing!! ryan was so head over heels obsessed with brendon i love it so much he was so crazy about him… “at least enough to keep me smiling from south carolina to virginia. it’s for lovers (orjustfriends)”

the best part is imagining that ryan was basically writing this in his head the whole time he was with brendon that night. and then as soon as he could get to his laptop and sneak away, he had to pour out all his thoughts and post them. the entire time he was with brendon he was feeling these things but couldn’t write them until he was alone.

i hate this gay ass band

*Sorry, I will not upload the files to Tumblr, don’t want AT&T/DirecTV/Tree/Taylor to hunt me down…

dear taylor,

as your 28th birthday comes to a close, (at least on my end), and i sit here listening to rep, i wanted to make a short, alebit emotional post. it has been a wild 11 years for me with you in my life, and i wouldn’t trade it for anything.

it’s crazy to think that in an interview when asked where you saw yourself in 10 years, you replied “hopefully headlining”. and here we are 10 years later and you have headlined four tours: fearless, speak now, red and 1989, and you will embark on your fifth in may for reputation. a lot has happened in the last 11 years for you and for me. lessons learned, love and heartbreak (although not the romantic kind for me, yet), loss and so many friends made. not to mention amazing successes for you: 10 grammy’s, four albums to sell 1 million in the first week, four headlining tours (so far), and three fragrances - just to name a few!!

but the thing that really gets me is that throughout all your success and everything else that you’ve gone through, not only have you continued to come out with new albums, hit after hit, you have remained as kind, generous, loving and genuine as you were when you first started, if not more so. fame changes so many people, sometimes not for the better and it is so important to me, to all of us, that your values have not changed.

you still have an unending amount of love for your fans, just as much as we love you and treat us like your best friends. thank you for being by my side for 11 years now. we have grown together and i am so proud to have a role model and best friend such as you.

@taylorswift sending you all my love on your 28th birthday. i hope it was filled with love and laughter and lots of cake!!!!

kehlani: 2015 changed my life. New Years last year i clinked glasses with my team and said I hope next year is everything we dreamed of. We left for tour with @g_eazy in the first week of January and nothing was eeeeever the same. I dropped You Should Be Here on soundcloud in the spring. That mixtape changed everything. From being categorized with amazing albums to being recognized by my idols and much more. This year we established TSNMI and gave it a home at Atlantic Records with an amazing AnR @jeffreybvaughn and the man himself @mikecaren . This year I completed my first headlining tour almost completely sold out, as well as a European tour. We sold out my hometown theatre 2 nights in a row in under 30 minutes each. Got the cover of @thefader , and got a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. This year I got my first crib. I have my own room and bed for the first time. This year I finally could send money home to my family, and be the big sister I always wanted to be. Thank you to my amazing manager for without you none of this would’ve been possible @itsdavidali , my brother and producer whom without , the sound would lack magic @jahaansweet . Thank you to my entire team, all my brothers and sisters in TSNMI, my family, my fans and most importantly God. Thank GOD for giving me a gift. Thank god for giving me the strength. Dropped a mixtape that shit sounded like an album… Who knew a whole LIFE CHANGE would be the outcome 🙏🏼 grateful beyond belief.. Ready for TsuThousand16. And every year after that.

3 ½ + 3 years ago today. It’s exciting to have seen the journey these boys have been on. From being on their first headlining tour, sleeping in vans and freezing our butts off to announcing their signing to FBR months later…still insanity. Hard work-but more importantly-heartfelt work is what you see from them. Exciting times, boys-
