Up Next: Triple Play Live Music in Minneapolis!

Once a year, I get an extended rotational assignment in the wonderful metropolis called The Twin Cities. Outside of my hometown of Chicago, there is no better Midwestern locale for a rockin’ music scene. So on my first weekend here, I am going for a trifecta of live music. The trilogy will start Thursday night at Schooner Tavern in Longfellow for an open jam Blues night. Friday will be at the Triple Rock Social Club in Cedar-Riverside for Waxahatchee, Cayetana and Snail Mail. I’ll round out the triad on Saturday in Downtown West at First Avenue/7th Street Entry for a CD release party with local Punk band The 99ers and guests The Silverteens, Ripper, Rudegirl, DJ Barb Abney and host Anthony Shore, a.k.a., The Minnesota Elvis. It will be a rockin’ good time in Minnesota!

Temples played First Ave in Minneapolis on Thursday. These guys have brought my love of good rock music back to the forefront. Felt like I went back to 1969, and thought to myself how amazing it would be if Jimi came out and played a few tunes with them. Favorite new band, album and show of 2014. These guys are going to be around for a long while.

Had a terrific night at le gym tonight. First Avenue Rocks will always be one of my favorite places in the world. The music is great (50 pandora stations, there better be something you like), the people are some of the most chill, most supportive people around. I’ve met some of my favorite people in the world at this place.

Tonight, it was just me and the guys. And Amanda. lol Every Thursday, they reset one of the walls. This week, it was the Wall of Shadows. It’s got this wicked 60 degree overhang that you only see once you’re right under it.

I don’t know if I’m just getting better or they’re down grading things, but holy shit some of the two dots (V3-V5) were easy as shit. Should have been one dots (V1-V2). This new kid Billy is setting some pretty wicked stuff. I think he was raised in HP40 cuz all his stuff is slopey. Neal’s problems are always good (and I’m not just saying that because I have a crush on the dude). He climbs a bit different than anyone I’ve seen. It’s more static and balanced than a lot of the other setters. Darryl needs to learn to set for a range of heights…NOT EVERYONE IS 8 FEET TALL! But the cool thing about most of his problems is that there’s Tall People Beta and Short People Beta. I don’t think Sarah’s set anything I don’t like. But then again, she’s a shorty like me, so she sets (sometimes) for our stature.

I did not intend to rant this much about my climbing gym…

But I do love my gym.

I think my being a smartass is gradually curbing Spitter’s beta slinging…
