The Microbe Murders. Frederick G.Eberhard. New York: Macaulay Company, (1935). First edition. Original dust jacket.

“Have you become bored with banal killings? If so, you read “The Microbe Murders.” Invisible, undetectable causes of death! A dead man that cannot tell a tale. Ingenious murder! No worn-out curare, or poisoned dart here. It’s a cold, calculative and practical bit of killing.”

Lance pokes fun of Shiro being a merman (not an actual merman unfortunately), and pidge and hunk, defending their father’s honour, dares lance to take some of Shiro’s classes (he teaches people how to become merppl n all that w allura).

Lance takes the dare and finds out this guy from one of his classes, whom he has a one-sided rivalry with, goes for mermaid lessons as well and *insert oh no he’s hot moment here*

anyway there’s lots of pining and swimming and mermaids and keith being obsessed with the mythical merpeople n lance finding it endearing as hell

Iceland becomes the first country to require companies  prove they’re paying all genders equally

  • Iceland just made history by becoming the first country in the world to require companies to prove they pay their employees equally regardless of gender. Fittingly, the Icelandic government announced the new legislation on International Women’s Day.
  • According to the Associated Press, the Icelandic government will introduce legislation to Parliament later this month that will require any business with more than 25 employees to obtain a certificate confirming that they pay all employees equally for equal work.
  • Similar certificate programs exist in other countries and in one U.S. state, Minnesota. But Iceland will reportedly be the first country to mandate a certificate for both public and private companies. Read more (3/9/17 11:52 AM

Twitter Breaks All Its Eggs
"No longer will an egg be telling you awful, racist, sexist remarks. Yay."
By Blake Montgomery

Twitter is radically changing its default new user profile image: eggs will become gray human silhouettes.

The eggs were placeholders for people who hadn’t uploaded profile pictures. The news was first reported by Fast Company, and confirmed in a Twitter blog post.

In recent years, the eggs had become associated with trolls and abusive accounts.

Twitter has struggled with abusive users all its life. It’s released several features to combat abuse in recent months. For example, people can choose not to see tweets from accounts without profile pictures, it rolled out new mute features, and Twitter now algorithmically scans for abusive tweets.

Eggs became associated with abuse because people seeking to harass others anonymously would seldom bother to upload profile pictures.
