Today we remember Ruffian, who died 38 years ago after she broke down in a match race with Foolish Pleasure known as “The Battle of the Sexes.” She was undefeated until this fateful day.

R.I.P. Ruffian, April 17, 1972 - July 7, 1975.

On a hot afternoon up at Belmont, they buried her facing the line, where she showed the whole world that she had enough heart, to finish in first every time, to finish in first every time.

It’s been a crazy 12 days! Had a blast but missed this gem too much! And now I get to spend a week chilling with her, eating shit/awesome food and shooting guns! Is this real life? Or is this just fantasy? @neolamodel missed you las! #homeward #lastleg #finalfurlong
