Kristen Stewart to Star in Ghost Story ‘Shopper’ for Olivier Assayas
Kristen Stewart is set to star in Olivier Assayas’s “Personal Shopper,” a Paris-set English-language ghost story taking place in the fashion underworld.
Assayas previously directed Stewart in “Sils Maria” which world premiered in competition at Cannes and earned Stewart a best actress Cesar (France’s Oscar equivalent), becoming the first Cesar-winning American thesp ever.
Penned by Assayas,”Personal Shopper” brings back “Sils Maria”‘s team: Producer Charles Gillibert for CG Cinema, MK2 for international sales and Les Films du Losange.
Gillibert said “Personal Shopper” will feature some of same themes as “Sils Maria” and will also have a genre/fantasy dimension.
Shooting will start in the last quarter of 2015 in Paris.
If the Ingmar Bergman of Autumn Sonata had been a looser and less severe
film-maker, he might have come up with something like Olivier Assayas’
haunting drama about an actress (Juliette Binoche) who doesn’t realise
the midlife crisis she’s going through has become her greatest role.
Binoche musters a symphony of emotion, and Kristen Stewart, as her
tersely ambitious assistant, gives a performance that points to the kind
of actress she could be: a millennial Jane Fonda. Assayas turns the
title cloud formation – an eerie snake of white wisps – into a metaphor
for life’s dark forces that is also a poetic coup de cinema. (Credit:
