Here are a list of some of my favourite quirky films that pull away from the usual:
Garden State (2004)- I saw this when I was 13 and it changed my world. It comes with a killer soundtrack and an adorably weird Natalie Portman. Thank-you Zach Braff.
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)- Wes Anderson doing what he does and doing it oh so well.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)- “A family on the verge of a breakdown”. The end of this movie will squeeze you’re heart and warm your soul. Also listen for a magical score by DeVotchKa.
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)- Wes Anderson’s latest whimsical piece that he co-wrote with Roman Coppola will make you swoon, laugh and sigh a dreamy sigh.
Lars and the Real Girl (2007)- With Ryan Gosling looking not so buff but pale and awkward, Lars and the Real Girl is a brilliantly strange love story between a sex doll and a sweet shy man.
Be Kind, Rewind (2008)- A fun and endearing film that our blog is named after. You’ll want to “swede” everything after watching.
Whip it (2009)- Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut flourishes with a kick ass cast and shines a light on the badass sport that is Roller Derby.
So if you’re in the mood for something a bit strange yet incredibly charming at the same time, maybe you want to show your friends you’re cool hipster side? Pop in one of these and save the recent Nicholas Sparks adaptation for another night (unless its The Notebook and you need to cry 1000 tears).
