film that people need to watch

Hogwarts House Aesthetics

Gryffindor - thunderstorms, dancing in a rain storm, really close flashes of lightning, midnight conversations where you share secrets you never thought you’d share because you know they’ll never tell anyone, confrontation, the uncontrolled feeling of anger where you see red and your blood is hot in your veins, whispering during movies, loud bursts of laughter, voices gradually growing louder and louder in arguments, being a sore loser, adrenaline rushes, taking risks, goofing around, dancing like no one is watching, loud music and loud singing/yelling along, playfully insulting friends, over the top poses for photographs, being unable to keep a poker face, the sparks that fly off of fires, unbuttoned plaid shirts, talking back, everlasting incredibly fierce loyalty and love for their friends, the satisfaction that overrides all exhaustion after exercise, scraped knees, constantly covered in plasters, climbing trees, loud celebrations, giant hugs

Slytherin - tiny hidden tattoos, the cold but refreshing feeling of freezing wind hitting your face, resting bitch face, ripped jeans, being brutally honest with their friends when it’s needed without guilt, hoodies, the determination to prove themselves different to people’s ideas of them, an old teddy bear or knitted gift from their grandma they hide away but treasure, wary of too much affection, having only one or two really close friends and liking it that way, not wanting to share the things that bring them the most happiness because their favourite things belong to them, being able to find loopholes in everything and using it to their advantage, smug smiles when they know they’re right, the satisfaction of knowing someone is wrong and knowing they’re about to prove it, confidence, only ever respecting people if they prove they deserve it no matter how old the person may be, doing things just because people say they can’t, fierce protectors, swimming way underwater and pretending to be a mermaid, constantly cold hands

Ravenclaw - always getting the perfect present because they remember the smallest thing about you, messy smudges of paint on desks and skin, biting lips and tugging hair in concentration, the mixture of exhaustion and relief when they finally perfect their work, the sound of pencil against paper, saying they’re fine when they’re not because other things need to be focused on, always being ready to listen, giving great advice, elegance, the light shining through stained glass windows in churches, travelling to historic places, unfinished notebooks, unable to resist starting that new project even when they said they would take a break, knowing random bits of information that other people may find useless, classical music, listening to film soundtracks to concentrate, crumbling castles half hidden in fog, forgetting simple things but knowing everything about complicated stuff, realising the answer half way through a question and yelling it out, watching people pass by and trying to deduce their life

Hufflepuff - dungarees, flowers tucked into pockets, fairy lights, the feeling of warmth when you’re inside all cuddled up and there’s bad weather outside, blanket forts, decorating the walls with pictures of good memories, birthday cards filled with stick men and scribbles of inside jokes, oversized sweaters, decorating bags with badges, nicknames, not wanting to leave bed, wearing a blanket as a cape, laziness, swing sets and slides, the lovely feeling when a stranger is nice to you, the rush of happiness when you meet someone and just know they’re going to be a good friend, stickers all over their belongings, wind chimes, cottages in the country side, disney fairy tale movies, scented candles, singing christmas songs all year around and planning decorations in September, cheeks hurting from smiling so much, dressing up for halloween every year even if they’re just staying at home, lying on their friends laps, surprise presents even when there’s no occasion, collecting acorns, candy shops

VALENTINE’S INSPIRED MEMES
  • “He loves me, he loves me not… oh.”
  • “She loves me, she loves me not… oh.”
  • “I don’t think it’s love…”
  • “So, is there anyone you’re secretly crushing on?”
  • “I don’t even like chocolate.”
  • “Yeah, nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a bouquet that’ll die in two days…”
  • “I’m not sure if they’re a secret admirer or a stalker… but at least they have good taste in gifts.”
  • “Oh! It’s my favourite time of year.”
  • “If I send a mass text to all the people I like, I don’t need to get all of them gifts do I?”
  • “I’ve never had a Valentine.”
  • “Will you be my Valentine?”
  • “Do you have a Valentine yet?”
  • “No one ever serenades me any more.”
  • “Just don’t write a song and play it in front of everyone again… it’s embarrassing.”
  • “Any secret admirers?”
  • “Oh, so you’re my secret admirer?”
  • “I may have been admiring you not so secretly.”
  • “Just because you like me doesn’t mean the feeling is mutual.”
  • “Seeing as we’ve both not got anyone, do you want to come to mine and watch a film?
  • "We’re never getting back together.”
  • “So, he got me a teddy bear, but we fought and he tore off it’s head.”
  • “How about instead of being ridiculous on one day of the year, you just be a decent partner for the other 364 days?!”
  • “We’re not together any more.”
  • “If you haven’t booked a table we definitely won’t get to eat there on such short notice.”
  • “It’s just Valentine’s day… I don’t see the big deal.”
  • “What do you mean you didn’t get me anything?”
  • “I’m feeling sick, is it okay if we arrange our date for another night?”
  • “I’m not sure if they’re a secret admirer or a stalker….”
  • “Well… they don’t know I’m going out with you so we’re going to have a girls night sitting in and cry about being single…”
  • “I’ve got the lube and strawberries, we’re all set!”
  • “I got out the whipped cream and she slammed the door in my face.”
  • “I am not wearing that.”
  • “When he said he would give me a pearl necklace, I thought I was getting actual jewelry.”
  • “It would have been a lot more romantic if you de-thorned the rose before you put it in your mouth…”
  • “I’m all for dressing up… but, how do you wear this?”
  • “If I see another couple holding hands, I’ll… I’ll-”
  • “Young love, isn’t it sweet?”
  • “Who did you get all these roses for?”
  • “I don’t love you, I’m just here for the chocolate.”
  • “So, let me get this right, you want me to be a stand in to make the person you like jealous?”
  • “Valentines? Pft!”
  • “That’s the least romantic thing anyone has ever said to me…”
  • “What are you doing? Why are you on one knee? Get up! Get up!”
  • “My mum gave me a rose because she felt sorry for me.”
  • “Look, you can buy me all the chocolates in the world, I still won’t go out with you.”
  • “A diamond ring? I appreciate the offer… but don’t you think this is a bit… excessive?”

anonymous asked:

why don't you like kathleen kennedy? shes the only female and she seems nice

it’s april 2017 and there are still people who dont know kk is a white demon

  • kk is an icon of white feminism.
  • when she doesn’t get involved directly, female characters’ looks get incredibly diverse (animated series or novels etc. although, we can’t say they treat women of color well.)
  • new female actresses who play lead roles, d ridley, f jones, and e clarke are all white brunette (just like her). this is my personal opinion but for me, f jones was the weakest part in rogue one because of her emontionless and soulless performance, but kk was the one who insisted on casting her and she’s very proud of it. we haven’t seen clarke’s performance in the upcoming han solo film yet but she’s already very famous for horrible eyebrow acting (even her fans admit it). tessa thompson and zoe kravitz, who also auditioned for clarke’s role, is obviously better than her.
  • (also, i think the rogue one novel was a bit better but the movie was… it focuses on the white woman, who didn’t care about the rebellion but only herself then becomes a hero. it’s not feminism when men of color are used to spotlight a white woman, especially when one of them has sacrificed everything for the rebellion from when he was a very young kid. when i heard jyn’s character was originally more like cassian i couldn’t stop groaning because THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER.)
  • ‘for some reason’ she keeps thinking white brunette women are the most ideal people to get the roles. even if she’s doing it unconsciously, it doesn’t change the fact that’s racism. she’s a racist.
  • and when you are a racist you can’t be a feminist because feminism means you support all the women.
  • she seems very passionate when she talks about rey and jyn but when it’s about other actors who are men of color she suddenly becomes silent?? and she talks about this “girl power” a lot but when it’s about races, ethnicities and diversity she doesn’t say anything? it’s always the directors who sat next to her who speak about it, or actors of color themselves. her “girl power” only involves white women and yet she said star wars represented the world.
  • she was a producer of complete disaster : avatar the last airbender movie, where almost everyone got whitewashed, which means she learned nothing from her past.
  • @kyber-sphere replied:  Actually, she isn’t even a feminist. Every time someone asks questions about “girl power” in panels she gets obviously irritated. One time, she was even dismissive towards the person who asked it too.

(Jimin’s crush comes over to his house to help him out after he suffers an injury that leaves him with limited use of both hands.)

Warnings: 6000+ words of smut, Jimin POV, I’ll let you guess what kind of smut takes place

“I can’t believe you managed to injure both of your hands on the same day.” Hoseok’s girlfriend, Sophie, stifled a laugh while she said it. “I can’t tell if you are dumb or just unlucky.”

Jimin sighed.  He had been stupid and drunk when he and Jungkook went out into the street to play with fireworks.  One went off too close to his hand, burning his right palm requiring a trip to the emergency room where his injury was cleaned and bandaged.  The doctor gave him a lecture about drunk people and explosives and how fortunate he was not to have blasted off his fingers.

While exiting the hospital, Jimin immediately tripped over the curb and landed with his full weight onto his left hand resulting in a small fracture and return trip to the emergency room to get a splint to immobilize his other hand.   Now, every time Jimin saw someone, he had to suffer the embarrassment of explaining what happened. People had a hard time not laughing when they heard how he managed to get hurt twice in one day.

“Does it hurt much?” you asked him.

“Not really. As long as I don’t bump into anything or use my fingers too much, it’s okay.” At least you seemed to be genuinely concerned about his well-being. That’s one of the reasons Jimin liked you, you always seemed caring and sincere.  The other main reason he liked you was because he thought you were incredibly hot.  There were plenty of nights Jimin stayed up fantasizing about what it would feel like to be with you.  He wanted to ask you out, but had been waiting until there was some indication that you were even the slightest bit interested in him.  He was starting to think that maybe he had a chance with you, but he felt neutered with his injuries, unable to do things like casually touch you and see how you would respond to his advances.  Jimin resolved to make a move as soon as he had full use of his hands again.

Genocide Denial Goes Viral: 'The Promise' and the IMDB

Eighty years ago the Turkish government forced Hollywood to drop a movie project based on The Forty Days of Musa Dagh, then a best-selling novel on the Armenian Genocide by German-language author, Jew and outspoken Hitler opponent Franz Werfel. The Forty Days of Musa Dagh, originally written as a warning against Hitler through the prism of the Armenian Genocide, never saw the silver screen. Such a movie could have also raised awareness of the fate of the Jews in Nazi Germany at the time and later of the ongoing Holocaust. It could have shaped the “narrative” of the struggle against Hitler. Many have since been interested to finally turn the novel into a major production, but Turkish opposition and obstruction seemed insurmountable.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-is-losing-battle-online-trolls-992582

It had taken years — and the passionate support of Armenian activist Kirk Kerkorian, who financed the film’s $100 million budget without expecting to ever make a profit — for The Promise, a historical romance set against the backdrop of the Armenian genocide and starring Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac, to reach the screen. Producers always knew it would be controversial: Descendants of the 1.5 million Armenians killed by the Ottoman Empire shortly after the onset of World War I have long pressed for the episode to be recognized as a genocide despite the Turkish government’s insistence the deaths were not a premeditated extermination.

The Promise, which opens April 21, finally would bring the untold saga to a mass audience. But at the Toronto Film Festival premiere in September, producer Mike Medavoy watched the late billionaire’s carefully laid plans upended by a digital swarm that appeared out of nowhere.

Before the critics in attendance even had the chance to exit Roy Thompson Hall, let alone write their reviews, The Promise’s IMDb page was flooded with tens of thousands of one-star ratings. “All I know is that we were in about a 900-seat house with a real ovation at the end, and then you see almost 100,000 people who claim the movie isn’t any good,” says Medavoy. Panicked calls were placed to IMDb, but there was nothing the site could do. “One thing that they can track is where the votes come from,” says Eric Esrailian, who also produced the film, and “the vast majority of people voting were not from Canada. So I know they weren’t in Toronto.”

The online campaign against The Promise appears to have originated on sites like Incisozluk, a Turkish version of 4chan, where there were calls for users to “downvote” the film’s ratings on IMDb and YouTube. A rough translation of one post: “Guys, Hollywood is filming a big movie about the so-called Armenian genocide and the trailer has already been watched 700k times. We need to do something urgently.” Soon afterward, the user gleefully noted The Promise’s average IMDb rating had reached a dismaying 1.8 stars. “They know that the IMDb rating will stay with the film forever,” says Esrailian. “It’s a kind of censorship, really.”

“But here, condensed into one 10-minute span, I recognized the sinking feeling of being betrayed by a white woman you’ve stanned for, loved, liked, or even simply been mildly okay with. It’s that feeling when you find out that, after enjoying her in Easy A and finding her bubbly personality lovable, Emma Stone was fine with playing an Asian woman in Aloha. Maybe you went through it with Scarlett Johansson when you found out that she’d accepted the lead role in Ghost in the Shell, an adaptation of a Japanese anime series. It’s the betrayal you feel the first time you realize that women who are labeled pop-culture feminist icons, like Tina Fey, are perfectly fine with gunning for blackface laughs at your expense, or blaming your idols for white girls’ lack of self-esteem. (Beyoncé is many things, but she is not the reason you hate your body.)

For some, it’s the 53 percent of white women who voted for Trump, or finding out that the leader of your local NAACP chapter is literally a white woman in disguise. For others it’s finding out that Taylor Swift’s been coasting on America’s fear of black men for years. I feel it every time I realize there’s a white women on my Twitter timeline who will tweet in earnest for Planned Parenthood while sparing only a perfunctory tweet for Black Lives Matter or the Standing Rock Sioux.

The thought that white people may see you as no more than a body for use or a culture from which you can pick and choose what you like while discarding the rest and those who invented it? The idea that a white woman you see as your potential friend or ally will eventually prove to be looking out for her own best interests over yours or the greater good? These are concepts that the people of color watching this film are intimately familiar with.

White women have always played, and continue to play, a large part in upholding the supremacy. They have not held the best interests of people of color.”

How to learn foreign languages

Hello, guys!

I`ve said before I`m interested in foreign languages. I learn English and Italian only but I hope one day this list will get bigger. So, I wanted to share my experience in learning languages with you all.

At first. If you are not very organized (i am)  it will be good for you to find a school of foreign languages or a teacher.  As to me I prefer to study with a group. This way you can practice your speaking skills not only with your teacher but also with people whose knowledge is the same as yours. Better to study with people your age. So, my English group consists of three 16 year olds (I`m 16 too), Italian: 18 year old and 24 year old girls.  I feel myself okay with them all.

Doesn`t matter if you have classes with teacher / group or learn language yourself you can use all of these tips to improve your skills.

To know any language well you have to be good at 4 things:

                              ○ Listening

                             ○ Speaking

                             ○ Reading

                             ○ Writing

Let`s talk about all of them.

Listening.  You need to listen and understand what you`re listening to. How to do this?

              • Watch films, tv shows, youtube videos, cartoons in the language you learn with subtitles. For example you start with subs in your native language, watch, listen, read subs and try to ‘connect’ them. When your skills will get better watch with subs in this language, to understand written text is easier than just speech. Also you will know how some words are pronounced.

(I think everybody knows English speaking Youtubers or at least it`s not difficult to find them, what I can`t say about other languages. So I made two playlist of Italian and RussianYoutubers I like. Check it out if you learn one of them.)

              • Music. When 2 years ago I became interested in English I started with this. I was listening to the song while reading its lyrics in English, then in Russian, than in English and in Russian again. Repeat it hundreds of times. Or at least just listen to music in this language.

              • Audiobooks and podcasts.  You can just listen to them like podcasts or listen while you are reading (the same book of course). Almost the same thing like watching films with subtitles. You can find original book or adapted for your level.

              • Exercises.  Buy a book or find on the internet listening exercises for your language and do it.

Speaking.  It`s quiet easy. Just speak.

              • With yourself, oh how many time I did it and heard that my friends had done it too. In the car, at home, etc. You can record it for the memory or to listen it later and find your own mistakes. It`s okay, if you are alone now, speak with yourself.

              • If you have a friend who learns the same language offer him/her to speak this language always or just sometimes.

              • If your lever is good start a channel on Youtube.  You will have to speak really a lot. There`s no other way, your speaking will get really better.

Reading.

              • Learn lots of words. To know the language fluently you have to know many words.  So, develop your vocabulary.

              • Read and translate quotes, phrases and so on. It is not hard to open Tumblr/twitter/etc. and read some but it is helpful.

              • Books, stories, fan fictions, blogs, etc. Just read a lot.

Writing. (spelling)

              • To improve your spelling just rewrite texts of your level. You can find more here.

              • Do lots of exercises. As I have already said you can buy a book or find them on the internet.

so, i hope some of these tips i know will help ypu to achieve the success.

(and i wanna thank my sister for being my ‘model’. follow her instagram!)

Alright i’m gonna write an essay cause i’ve seen one too many people giving dan ‘constructive criticism’ about his new video and im a little over it. firstly, dan does not need phil at the house watching back his videos before they go live and helping him film sketches for them to be ‘good’. Dan is a perfectly capable and intelligent 26 year old man. Secondly, i’m finding it funny that people are saying ‘it seemed like he just needed upload a video so he’s recycling old ideas’. he literally said on twitter that this has been in his ideas notebook for 2 YEARS, not to mention who cares if he felt like he had to upload a video…you realize that’s because of the pressure fans put on him right? and this was not recycling an old idea at all….like he named it similar because it was a funny continuation not because he was just repeating himself.

It’s so great too how we encouraged dan to rebrand but as soon as he tries out a dinof style sketch video (which he has always enjoyed the style of) with a toned down more himself personality, y’all out here getting pissy about it? let the man live. the video was good. it was one of the best dinof style videos in a while and it was one of the most comfortable waffly videos i’ve ever seen out of dan. we should be encouraging him exploring this new meshing of content styles, not telling him we hate it and want the old dinof back. if you want the old dinof back, be my guest to get in a time machine and visit 2012, but i for one don’t want to go back to that hell and im excited to see dan thriving in 2017.

im not saying you can’t not like the video, or that it is the best video he’s ever made, but you dont know dan, you dont know how much mental or physical effort went into making this for you, and how much guts it took for him to try something a little different. give him a break, i think after 8 years of giving us exactly what we want, he gets to make whatever the hell he wants without us bitching and moaning about it. if you wanna bitch and moan about dan making a video that isn’t up to your preconceived dinof standards, go ahead and leave the phandom cause it’s gonna get old quick.

But you have know idea how much the team at Pixar researched about Mexican culture. From my visit to Mexico music was a huge part of the culture and musicians used the guitar alot. Unfortunately Guillermo del Toro's (producer of BOL) movies haven't been doing well. And (director of BOL) Jorge isn't barely known. Also coco is Co directed and written by Adrian Molina. Someone of Latino origin. I'm sure he understands the culture. Using the same holiday isn't really a rip off.

I have no issue with Pixar doing a well researched film on Dia de Los Muertos. My problem is that Disney and Pixer outright passed on A Book of Life and then decided “never mind we will do it” and then couldn’t even be bothered to hire an actual Mexican director. And then decided to have a plot very similar to The Book of Life, a film they, again, rejected because it would not get interest in America.

I am also not going to just forget the fact Disney grossly tried to copyright “Dia de Los Muertos”, they literally tried to copyright a Mexican Holiday so they could make money of it. It would mean actual Mexicans would have to pay Disney to use Dia de los Muertos. This is gross. It would be like a Mexican film company trademarking Christmas.

I am Latina myself. There is a difference between being Latino and being Mexican in this case. Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican Holiday and they should have hired an actual Mexican director to actually do the project.

Again I am not going to stop people from watching this. Am I glad to see our cultures getting more attention, yeah. But I’m also not going to let Disney get away with what they did just because of whom they are. We need to hold companies accountable.

This isn’t about Pixar not being able to make a film like this. It is about the shady history behind this film and Disney’s treatment of A Book of Life before practically ripping it off.

City of Heroes day 2 panel - agai sorry for shoddy photo’s I really arn’t much of a photographer just pointedand clicked excitedly.

Dom and Wentworth were in a more relaxed mood today not as shy today and had wared up to the audience. This was lovely as they were less nervous and laughed more and both really opened up.

What was lovely was hearing about how they viewed life as something to experience despite the stuggles but not to try and force things, they don’t want to make grand films just stuff that interests them and that they can share with their friends and family. They talked about why the get on so well and that they are both private people, emotional but enjoy their space, they dont like crowds and people getting to close and in their faces so they made a great pair understanding when the other needed company or space.

Dominic said how the prvious evening he watched as Wentworth went for a walk in nature and he did his own thing but each new they’d be happy in each others company if needed. Also whatbwas very funny and made Wentworth laugh at Dom a lot is he said

“I saw Went go walk out in the bush, no whats it called you know with the green” audience replied “Fields” and Went cracked up while Dom just continued “ Fields Damn it yeah with the cows and sheeps and rabbits and grass”

They talked about their brotherhood and how important exploring that relationship is in Prison Break. Wentworth said that he thinks Snart would respect Micheal and Dom said Linc and Mick would get into a punch up but they were all survivors so could work together.

Dominic also said that most of the time on Legends their not acting just having fun and exploring the dynamic between them and the echos of Linc and Michael in Snart and Rory. The only time he  really had to act was when he’s Chronos and had to fight Wentworth.

Their friendship really is beautiful, their bonds strong and their outlooks on life quite insperational.

One huge benefit of being sick is time to rest and catch up on Movies. I have enjoyed watching many historical films this week and am so grateful for the people that lived the inspired life as well as those who put it in film to inspire others.

One commonality in most of the films I have seen is not looking beyond the surface at fellow humans. It seems to be a lesson we need to repeat over the centuries.

Remembering no matter color, religion, politics, or financial situation, we are still the same with dreams, fears, and those we love and who love us.

Here’s the thing about the new canon.

Essentially they want us to watch the Original Trilogy, completely invested in the fact that our heroes will triumph, and then they want us to watch The Force Awakens and just be totally OK with the fact that everything we were just presented with over the course of three films is out the window.

They want Star Wars fans to spend several hours watching Han and Leia’s love story, watching them fight for each other, overcome personal obstacles to be together, make incredible sacrifices for each other–they want us to spend ESB and ROTJ rooting for them, want us to watch Han hold her close as they both smile at the end of the trilogy, want us to be happy and hopeful and thrilled that their true love has made it through–and then they want us to watch TFA and see that their marriage failed, and they want us to accept it.

They want us to get invested in our heroes–in Han and Luke and Leia–and desperately hope that they all make it through. They want us to be invested in their personal allegiances to one another to the point that we KNOW that Han will come back at the battle of Yavin for Luke and Leia, we KNOW that he’ll go out into freezing conditions to rescue Luke, we KNOW that he’ll run into Echo Base to rescue Leia on Hoth, we KNOW that Luke will ignore his Jedi Masters and abandon his training to go rescue Leia and Han on Bespin, we KNOW that Leia will risk her safety to go back for Luke at Cloud City, we KNOW that Luke and Leia will leave the rebellion and put themselves at risk to rescue Han, WE KNOW WE KNOW WE KNOW. The new canon wants us to sit there KNOWING ALL THESE THINGS, knowing that they are the most important damn things in the galaxy to one another, knowing that they’re family and that they love each other. They want us to know it and be invested in it and root for it–root for the strength of that bond and that loyalty and root for them all to make it through together–for all of them to triumph together. And they do!

And then TFA wants us to COMPLETELY CHANGE OUR MINDS and accept that all of that is destroyed. That bond is broken. Luke has abandoned his friends for some reason. Han has left Leia. Leia is all alone. And not only has that crucial bond just been cast aside, but their triumphs have all been undone. Empire defeated?? Welcome to Empire 2.0!!! Death Stars destroyed??? Welcome to Death Star 3.0!!!! Vader redeemed???? Welcome to Vader 2.0, and even worse, he’s your own damn son/nephew AND he kills Han!!!!!! It just takes their victory and deconstructs every single piece of it, and the only possible way that that maybe could have been tolerable would have been if AT LEAST they were still together, still true to the loyalty we knew, unstoppable and united no matter what new dangers they face, and they’re NOT. The Original Trio, the most beloved and iconic characters of all time, are just completely leveled to NOTHING. Fractured and broken up and reduced to these miserable un-versions of themselves. And the new canon wants you, as a Star Wars fan to accept this, because “Don’t worry!! We have these three shiny NEW heroes for you!!!! They’ll get a happy ending for sure!!!!” But??? What??? I don’t give a shit about their ending, what about the ending we were already supposed to have had???? The one you made me hope for for three damn movies??? The one I was lead to believe was true???? What about that ending??????

No, they decided that they were going to go back thirty years after the fact and change it.

But wait, you say, how did this happen??? How could these people at Lucasfilm who were claiming to “protect” Star Wars destroy Luke and Leia and Han like that?? How could they write a Han Solo who abandons Leia to do all the fighting all alone when there’s a fascist regime routinely trying to kill her and their son is a part of it and her brother has vanished without a trace??? How could they write a Luke who’s evidently turned his back on the galaxy–on the FAMILY–that needs him??? How could they have DESTROYED LEIA’S WHOLE LIFE????? ALL of their lives???? And for seemingly no reason!!!! They could have easily written a movie to introduce the new characters and create conflict without dismantling every single thing about our beloved trio and their dynamic. But they didn’t. They slaughtered them.

And then you listen to these people speak. And they start saying things like Leia clearly could never have been an attentive mother because she was too preoccupied with politics and her career. Han could never have been happy settling down and committing to something–not even his family–so OBVIOUSLY he left and he’s smuggling again. Han and Leia were too incompatible and could never have worked. Luke is off in EXILE because AREN’T ALL JEDI MASTERS SUPPOSED TO BE IN EXILE???????????

And you’re just. You’re floored. You’re blown away. It’s like those people didn’t even fucking WATCH Star Wars. Did they completely miss the fact that Leia’s character arc is about learning to care about things that aren’t the rebellion, and learning to rely on people–not just herself???? Did they not see how much she’s already lost–LITERALLY HER ENTIRE WORLD–and how much she had to suffer before she finally got something that was hers again? Did they not see the hell she had to go through to get it???? Did they really think she would throw that away after all that–did they think that LEIA of all people couldn’t have balanced a career and a family????

Were they just twiddling their thumbs when HAN SOLO’S ENTIRE FREAKING STORY IS ABOUT REALIZING THAT HE’S NOT A SMUGGLER, NOT SELFISH, NOT THAT MAN ANYMORE–MAYBE NEVER REALLY WAS THAT MAN. LEARNING TO COMMIT–TO STAY WITH LEIA AND LUKE AND THE REBELS AND SACRIFICE HIMSELF IF NEED BE????? HIS ENTIRE GROWTH AS A CHARACTER WAS AWAY FROM SELFISHNESS AND FLIGHTINESS. HE BECAME A STEADFAST, BRAVE, DEPENDABLE MAN COMMITTED TO HIS FRIENDS AND HIS LOVE AND THE CAUSE. HOW DID THEY WATCH THOSE FILMS AND SAY “WELL HAN COULD NEVER SETTLE DOWN.”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did they not notice that Luke’s DEFINING characteristic throughout the original trilogy is his loyalty to his loved ones??? His utter refusal to let harm come to them–to give up on them?? His refusal to abandon them???? And then they want us to believe that he… abandoned them?????

So essentially the thing about the new canon is that people who don’t understand Star Wars are suddenly in charge of Star Wars, and they go back and ignore the characterization of three entire films and present us with material that is entirely contradictory of the original trilogy, and then they don’t understand why people have reacted negatively.

And then of course you get fans screaming about how it’s REALISTIC this way.

When the fuck did you get the idea that Star Wars is supposed to be realistic??????? Star Wars is NOT about realism. It’s a Space Fairytale. An epic saga. It’s not supposed to be Game of Thrones grimdark jam in the tragedy. It was never like that for forty years. It was never presented that way. George Lucas was ADAMANT in making this point. And that’s why it resonated with so many people–that’s why it was such a success. Because it was uplifting. It was inspiring. It touched that part of our hearts where those fairytales live–where it’s possible for our heroes to go up against the forces of evil and WIN and have a happy ending. That’s why they gave Luke and Leia and Han the happy fucking ending!!!!

And the thing with the new canon is that they don’t care. They don’t care about “protecting Star Wars.” They don’t care about what Star Wars stands for. They don’t care about what George Lucas created. They care about money. They don’t want you to be invested in Han and Luke and Leia anymore. They want you to care about Finn and Rey and Poe, and apparently no one at Lucasfilm understood that they didn’t have to destroy the old characters to get people to like the new ones.

And for the record, just because the people delivering this truly appalling “new canon” horrorshow AU are Disney and Lucasfilm does NOT mean that I have to accept it all as true. They don’t understand Star Wars, they don’t care about it, they’re not its original creator, and I don’t have to accept a single thing they say.

That’s the thing about the new canon.

To all of you starting high school

High school sucks. If anyone tells you different, they’re lying.

High school is not the best 4 years of your life.

High school isn’t everything.

Those kids that make fun of you? 4 years and you’re done. You will never have to communicate with them again. (also karma will get them get back)

Seriously, pay attention and do your homework. You will regret it if you don;t.

BEFRIEND YOUR TEACHERS. They are your friends. Yes, even the mean ones.

The friends you have now, probably won’t be your friends by your last year and that’s okay.

Eat something in morning. Bring a granola bar to school and eat it between classes if you can’t eat in the morning. You will feel better if you eat something.

Push yourself. Colleges want people who push themselves, not people who take all the easy classes.

No one will care about how you acted or what you did by the next day and at most a few weeks.

9 times out of 10, upperclassmen don’t want to just “chill”. They don’t care bout your feelings. If they’re sleeping with you and not an upperclassmen, there’s probably a reason.

Don’t let other people borrow your textbooks. Those things aren’t cheap and you probably won’t see it again.

BE NICE TO EVERYONE. You never know when you’ll need to copy someone’s homework. (I was nice so people let me copy ALL the time)

Copy smart. Copying does you no good if you get caught. High School teachers don’t let that shit slide.

If you choose not to do the reading, PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND TAKE LOTS OF NOTES. You can bet your ass there will be a quiz.

If you do Shakespeare or anything that’s hard to read, (A Tale Of Two Cities jfc), if there’s a film version, WATCH IT. It will help you understand it.

Don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for help.

If you can bring coffee, SPILLPROOF CUPS. No one wants spoiled milk. That shit will spill in your locker and you will forget and it will be gross.

KEEP YOUR LOCKER CLEAN. Last thing you want is a detention because you were late because you couldn’t find your textbook from your locker being too messy.

If you’re gonna be late, make that shit count.

For the love of god, don’t send nudes.

Bring your earphones and charger

You’ll be fine. High school sucks but it’s only 4 years and it’ll fly by.

So...

I don’t post much on Tumblr. I prefer to just lurk about, look at fanart, read fics, and stay tf away from all the toxicity and drama surrounding fandom.

But for right now - fuck all that noise. I’m entering the war zone.

I’ve been peeping on the SW fandom for about the last year and a half now, and something has come to my attention - some people… predominantly, it seems, anti-reylo shippers - are so incredibly vile, ruthlessly harsh, and just generally terrible to other people who are just trying to enjoy their reading of the film in peace.

And I mean, it’s not even like y’all (antis) have the correct reading of the film? You guys have CATEGORICALLY MISINTERPRETED everything you use as bait for why the Reylo ship is “wrong” “immoral” or “disgusting.” I’ve seen so many antis claiming that Kylo Ren won’t be getting a redemption arc and is a ruthless murderer with no regrets, yet the subtext of TFA, the SCRIPT ITSELF, dialogue in the novel, and specific comments from fucking JJ Abrams and Adam Driver himself refute that. You can’t argue that it’s incest, because at this point everyone associated with the series has essentially come out and said she isn’t a Skywalker or a Solo. To claim that Rey was “raped” by him and imply that it’s an abusive relationship is to -

1). Strip Rey of all her agency and overlook the fact that she has been established as a strong character who can defend herself (because, idk if you recall, but every time she encounters Kylo Ren…she defeats him). They have consistently been established as equals both in battle and in their abilities in the force, and to suggest she can’t hold her own against him is just blatantly ignoring the text. (And, going off the anti argument, when she enters his mind, that means she also “rapes” him, but I guess we can all overlook that because Daisy Ridley is a pretty, defenseless little woman and Adam Driver is a big, scary, superior man, right?).

2). To only have the capacity to understand text and character development as it’s presented to you in its most basic form. Y’all know this is a trilogy, right? See, what typically happens is that - over the course of a series of films - the characters change and drastically develop beyond what was presented to the audience in the first movie. This is what we call character development.

Do you guys seriously believe that every single Reylo shipper thinks they’re going to jump each other’s bones based on the mutual disdain for each other that was presented in TFA? FUCK NO! The Reylo speculation is centered around the potential we see for future development between the two, romantic or otherwise. It’s based on canon evidence in the novel and script. It’s based on comments from JJ Abrams, Lucasfilm and co. who suggest - nay, outright STATE - that the destinies of these two characters are specifically tied up in their relationship to one another. And now we have a poster, a trailer, and a whole host of spoilers to indicate that Reylo shippers are headed in the right direction in terms of character development and plot speculation. Don’t believe me? There are pages and pages worth of meta and Reylo-centered analysis circa 2015 - 2016 that has, as of recent news and revelations, pretty much hit the nail on the head. While y’all are still just hoping she’s a Skywalker.

The last thing I’m going to bring up is the the utter VENOM that is spat at people minding their own business, enjoying the SW series, and creating their art, totally unprompted, from antis. To call someone a pedophile based on a ship with a ten year age gap (the same age gap between Han and Leia, I might add, but you guys seem totes cool with that) is outrageous, offensive, and trivializes pedophilia. To call someone a racist because of their ship is, again, utterly outrageous, baseless, and wholly dismissive of POC shippers (like myself). Unless you see someone consistently posting pictures of swastikas and spewing hateful, anti-minority rhetoric, you - just another random, bitter asshole on Tumblr - have no right to call someone a Nazi, again trivializing the experiences of those who have had to deal with *actual* racism, stereotyping and social injustice. And if you think we’re sexist? I invite you to revisit Point 1.

Sorry for the long-ass rant. But people should just ship and let ship. There’s no need for the bullying, policing, name-calling, or even taking any of this shit so SERIOUSLY to the point where you would go out of your way to hurt others. Because at the end of the day, we’re all just watching a series of children’s films about space wizards with light-up swords. CHILL.

You: LaFou shouldn’t be gay !!!! It’s offensive !!!!!

Me, an intellectual: It’s not the best start but it’s a start. Disney is opening up. With Frozen showing you don’t need a prince to Moana solving her problems with love and compassion rather than violence. Disney has come a long way from their rough beginnings and making LaFou gay is unlocking the door to a whole world of possible LGBT themes in future movies. They’re finally seeing that people are people no matter who they love or what color their skin is. It’s beautiful to watch them develop and grow and I can’t wait to see a gay man, like myself, in a Disney film.

Why Moonlight Deserves Best Picture Over La La Land

After getting a recent message from Tumblr user @fewger and reading a bunch of Oscar-related articles, I have discovered that I hold the semi-unpopular opinion that Moonlight deserves Best Picture over La La Land.  So, I feel obligated to go to bat on this, so let’s have a chat, y’all.

The debate between La La Land and Moonlight brings me back a year to last year’s Grammy Awards, where the Album of the Year award was given to Taylor Swift’s 1989 over Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, a move that shocked many.  One hand, you had a collection of pretty well made pop tunes that can make even the most Swift-cynical person, like myself, tap their toes.  1989 was a fun album with a lot of celebrity gossip theories and some admittedly great songs.  On the other hand, there was the magnum opus that is To Pimp a Butterfly, which blended together modern and older styles and used some daring techniques to paint a poetic, detailed picture of growing up in places like Compton while struggling with race, mental illness, and self-identity.  In this album, Lamar provided a glimpse into a lifestyle that many of us will never ever experience or truly understand and was unafraid of showing the ambiguous morality of this life.

My, this is all starting to sound a little familiar, hm?

The thing is, it’s true that La La Land is a feat of filmmaking. Honestly, just getting the green light, producers, and the big budget it had was a huge task in and of itself.  As it is, the musical numbers are impeccably executed, from cinematography to choreography to music and lyrics, and it’s damn charming to boot.  I genuinely love and enjoy this film, and God knows I don’t like to knock Chazelle, whose previous feature, Whiplash, was an intensely personal experience for me.  However, what La La Land accomplishes, it does with a pretty decent budget, whereas Moonlight accomplishes more with next to nothing. Hell, even the musical moments of Moonlight have as much, if not more, impact than many in La La Land, from the “Every N—– is a Star” opening (just another element it shares with Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly) to the heart-wrenching impact of “Hello Stranger” to the haunting moments created by the chopped-and-screwed score.

Now, let’s hit the two biggest, most noticeable (even to an untrained eye) elements of filmmaking: performances and story.  Moonlight shines brighter in both.

In La La Land, Gosling and Stone have both achieved quite a bit.  They’ve learned to dance in all sorts of styles, sing, and even, for Gosling, learned piano from scratch.  These aren’t easy tasks, I’ll grant you, but when you look at the actual acting performance that marries these elements to the characters, it’s just not very exciting stuff.  Gosling and Stone have great onscreen chemistry, but these characters aren’t a departure for them.  Stone is basically playing a slightly different version of herself, while Gosling is just great at being Gosling.  (And this is in no way me throwing shade at Ryan Gosling; the man is a damn delightful actor with incredible comic timing.  I genuinely love his work.)  So, there’s not a real acting challenge here, just a bunch of side challenges.  However, this is the kind of performance for which the Academy goes crazy, where transformation is achieved through a means that is not really acting.

Meanwhile, Moonlight is built on a foundation of superb, nuanced performances from a cast of smaller parts.  There are beautiful character interpretations from Ali, Monaé, Harris, Holland, and the three Chirons (Hibbert, Sanders, and Rhodes).  These actors are directed superbly by Jenkins, so much so that none of the actors playing Chiron ever met before or during filming to discuss the character, but still play him with an uncanny similarity. It’s ingenious directing, and the actors’ work is transformative, moving, and worthy of reward.  However, most of them, except Ali, will go without.

Now, we come to story, which we all know if the most crucial element of a movie.  Without a good story, it’s not going anywhere.  And it’s definitely where Moonlight proves its importance over La La Land.

La La Land is about a couple of privileged dreamers in Los Angeles who sacrifice relationships for their goals. Let’s be honest, guys: this isn’t at all original.  I can think of many films, shows, songs, other musicals, even musicals within other musicals, etc. etc. with a pretty dang similar, if not identical, concept behind them.  And yeah, we’re all dreamers, and yeah, we can all find something relatable in the wonderful feeling this film conveys of wanting to fulfill your dreams.  However, the self-centered, self-praising nature of this film makes it an easy choice for Hollywood people, whose egos demand to be stroked and whose backs need to be patted.  Meanwhile, Moonlight brings a cinematic voice to a kind of person we rarely see onscreen.  We watch him grow, learn, lash out, hide himself away, and, finally, accept and, in doing so, love.  It’s a gorgeous tale that resonates deeply with anyone who’s struggled with who they are, and Chiron is a vulnerable character within many of us can find something of ourselves.

Someone once said that all cinema is, at its core, about identity.  Moonlight has a way of opening the audiences’ hearts and touching them where they’re most vulnerable.  Its story is strikingly universal.  On the flipside, La La Land, while perfectly executed, resonates with a very specific group of people.  Moonlight is original, singular, impossible to categorize.

La La Land is for some; Moonlight is for all.

That’s why Moonlight should win Best Picture.

JUSTIN FOLEY X Reader

Marcus and the reader broke up because of what the reader found out. Justin, the reader’s childhood friend came over to cheer her up.

Warning:  swearing

A/N: Thanks to the anon who requested a movie night with Justin. I’m sorry if it seemed rushed or something, I was having a bit of a writer’s block. I tried to make the ending as fluffy as I can. Hope you like it. :)

“I overheard your conversation you bastard!” you glared at him, face flushed with anger, hot tears threatening to fall. He looked around the gym seeing that some people were looking at the both of you, he grabbed your wrist and leaned in. “Don’t make a scene here, y/n.” You looked at him incredulously giving a bitter laugh.

“Well, I’m really sorry for caring Mr. valedictorian. Tell me, how long did you plan on letting this on? Till you get in my pants?” You snapped. He was about to snap back, you want him to because then maybe he cared even a little, but his concern for his reputation precedes everything else apparently.

“That is not true!” He smiled as you stood up holding a dvd in your hand.

“I can’t help that Monty Python is over quoted and over done.” He told you.

“But this is the Holy Grail. Everyone likes the Holy Grail.”  You shook the dvd case in front of him.

“I’m not everyone.” He smirked.

“Fine, what movie is the best to you?” You crossed your arms. He opened his mouth to speak but the sound of someone at the door stopped him. You moved to go answer it but his legs stayed stretched out resting on the table in the way, “Dude…”

“Pay the toll.” He smirked as you nudged his legs again.

“There’s someone at my door. Move.” You smiled at him.

“Pay…the toll.” He said slowly his face not changing as you rolled your eyes, “They’re going to be waiting a really long time…”

“Oh my god, you’re ridiculous.” You leaned down giving him a kiss. He let you pass walking for the door.

He leaned his head back watching you. After a few days of getting somethings in order for his plan to work, he’d taken you to dinner. He had concluded that he was a god, he should be able to get what he wanted.

He felt happier than he had in many years. In the cage, he had been so consumed…He shook it off when he heard you speak, “Dad? Hi! What are you doing here? Did I miss a call?”

He watched you hug an older gentleman as he stood up listening, “Oh I was in the area and thought I’d stop by to catch up, but I see I’m interrupting.”

“Right…no you’re fine. I actually…I want you to meet him.” You smiled looking over to Allen, “Dad, this is…uh…well this Bartholomew Allen, and this is my dad, John.”

“Bartholomew, don’t hear of many of those.” John reached out his hand to him.

“And that’s why everyone calls me Allen.” Allen took his hand, “It’s nice to meet you.”

“Yeah…You must be the mystery guy she’s mentioned, but never reveals.” John smirked and it was then that he could see the resemblance.

“Dad…” You blushed a little shutting the door.

“What? I gotta embarrass you when I can. You’re always so busy now.” He walked over to one of the bar stools in the kitchen taking a seat.

“I find it hard to believe that Y/N gets embarrassed.” Allen crossed his arms smirking at you.

“Please don’t get him started….” You whispered scratching your forehead.

“You know I might be old.” Your father looked at you both, “But I still can hear.”

The next few hours were spent in good conversation and laughter. He’d gotten you to laugh before but the way your father made your eyes crinkle, it was something special. The more time he spent with you them more he realized how much he’d forgotten how to live.

“I love you peanut.” John whispered kissing your head as you lingered holding onto him.

“I love you too dad.” You smiled letting go finally.

“It was really good to meet you sir.” Allen held out his hand.

John took his hand firmly, “You seem alright Allen…take good care of my girl.”

“I’ll do my best.” Allen smiled stepping closer to you noticing your cheeks flush.

“You two have a good night.” John turned to the door opening, “Oh and Allen…”

“Yes sir?” He stood up straight as John looked back at him.

“It’s the Holy Grail…” John smiled a little, “Sometimes watching it with the right person gives you a better perspective. Have a good night.”

Allen looked at you smirking at him, “So I take it…”

“We are totally watching that movie.” You laughed wrapping your arms around his neck, “Thanks for not running away.”

“He’s your dad, it was bound to happen. Though I do wish I would have had a little prep time.” He said placing his hands on your hips as you leaned up kissing him.

“Well you did great.” You moved your hands to his chest give him a pat, “You get comfy, I’m gonna make some popcorn.”

He pulled you back to him as you stepped away. When you looked to his face you saw him biting his lower lip in a mischievous way, “So I know of a few places that I can get comfy here, you’re going to have to get more specific.”

“Oh well…I mean…we could go about anywhere you want.” He smirked drawing closer to him, “Did you have a favorite place in mind?”

You yelped as he scooped you up into his arms heading for the stairs, “I do.”

You smiled a while later you moved resting your chin on his chest staring up at his face. He smiled at you before reaching over brushing hair from your face, “You are so beautiful.”

“Thanks.” You blushed a little leaning into his hands, “You know, I could get real used to this.”

“To what?” He asked letting his thumb rub against your cheek absently.

“Waking up next to you.” You watched him smile more. You moved to your knees looking at him for a moment before swinging your legs off the bed.

“Where you going?” He moved with you letting his hand trail up your bare back as you searched for something to put on from the floor.

“I am going to make us something to eat. We never had dinner.” You looked back him.

“It’s midnight…stay in bed.” He stared at him.

“3.”

“What?”

“2.”

“Y/N?”

“1.”

His stomach let out a loud low rumble, “Uh…”

“I’ll be back.” You pulled on your robe before leaning down giving him a kiss, “Just relax.”

Relax. He sighed watching you disappear from view letting his head rest against the pillows. Yeah…he could get used of this too.

You came back with some hefty looking sandwiches. He took his as you set yours on the bed walking over to the small tv, “No…really?”

You looked back at the whining man, “This movie is happening…even if we fall asleep watching it.”

He sighed before taking a bite thinking back to what your father had said to him, which got him thinking about her father in general, “Hey can I ask you something?”

“Of course you can.” You sat down picking up your sandwich.

“Your dad…” He looked at you as the movie started in the background, “He’s…sick?”

You took in a breath nodding slowly, “Yeah…cancer.”

“I’m sorry…” You looked at him as he put his sandwich on the bedside table, “It’s bad isn’t it?”

“He’s doing okay, but…doctors aren’t hopeful.” You told him frowning, “You could tell?”

“I’ve been around sick people…” He told you, “He seems like a healthy guy…is it genetic?”

“Uh actually no.” You picked at your sandwich, “You’re right he’s really healthy…was…but three years ago he was at work and that …thing blew up. You know the science thing STAR Labs.”

He listened as you went on, “He was affected like those special people, but…instead of getting fast or…cool powers. His genes mutate too fast I guess. The doctors have tried radiation, surgeries…it always comes back.”

He shut his eyes frowning, “Y/N…I don’t…”

“It’s okay.” You looked at him, “My brother and I we’ve come to terms and so has my dad. Doesn’t make it much easier but…well…you can’t change it.”

“Y/N…you know if you need anything…ever.” He trailed off.

You smiled scooting closer to him looking at the tv, “I know…”

He put his arm around you. The pair of you fell silent watching the film. He smiled every time you started to mutter some line.

Your dad was right…sometimes perspective can change with the people you’re around.

What she says: I’m fine

What she means: Jake Gyllenhaal, born 19th of December 1980, does not only commit to every role with every nuance of his soul, body and mind but is clearly one, if the the most talented actors of his generation, comparable to Robert De Niro. This is agreed by his fellow actors, directors, writers, fans and even critics, yet he doesn’t get recognised by the academy and has only ever been nominated once, which is disgraceful. The academy awarded people like Casey Affleck yet ignore Gyllenhaals work in Prisoners, Enemy, End of Watch, Nightcrawler, Southpaw, Nocturnal Animals, Zodiac and countless other films. To put it quite blatantly this needs to stop otherwise I may have to do something drastic, so please award Jake Gyllenhaal.
