WONDER WOMAN Breaks Glass Ceiling For Female Directors & Stomps On ‘Iron Man’ With $100.5M Debut
The warrior princess of Themyscira is finally leaping past the century mark this weekend with $100.5M according to Warner Bros., however, other studios believe Wonder Woman has the power to exceed $101M.
By Anthony D'Alessandro

The success of Wonder Woman this weekend even impressed John Fithian, National Association of Theatre Owners CEO & President who exclaimed, ““I want to congratulate Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot and Warner Bros on the terrific opening, but Wonder Woman’s success is everybody’s success. AT NATO, at CinemaCon, we have for years called for diversity in movies that match the diversity of our audiences, not just because it’s a good idea but because it’s good business.  What we really look forward to is the day when a movie directed by a woman and telling a woman’s story is no longer news because it was successful – or even that it was produced at all – because such movies should be a matter of routine. We will grow our audiences by telling more stories that tell their stories.”

‘Wonder Woman’ Conquers the Domestic Box Office With Heroic $103.1 Million
By Seth Kelley

“Wonder Woman” is officially a box office hero.

The Warner Bros. and DC Comics film appears to have delivered on massively high expectations — as of the Sunday morning the super hero film is looking at a $103.1 million domestic opening weekend from 4,165 locations. That, combined with an international take of $122.5 million from 55 markets gives the movie a global opening of $223 million. $18.3 million of the global total came from Imax screens — that’s the third biggest opening for a DC Comics film behind “The Dark Knight Rises” and ahead of “Suicide Squad.”

Patty Jenkins now holds the banner for the best domestic opening for a female director, topping “Fifty Shades of Grey’s” Sam Taylor-Johnson ($85.1 million).

WONDER WOMAN To Whip ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ As Summer’s Highest-Grossing Film; 2nd Best Of 2017
By Anthony D'Alessandro

Warner Bros./DC’s Wonder Woman will fly over Disney/Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the domestic box office this coming weekend with more than $387M. This easily will make Wonder Woman the highest-grossing title of the domestic summer B.O. and the second best so far this year after Disney’s Beauty and the Beast ($504M).

*inspired by that Obi Wan's false sense of superiority post* What we need is an animated series about the psychologist who has to deal with these sentient tire fires. I mean, I'm a human tire fire and even I get help, these guys have no excuse. It needs to be filmed like The Office and as tongue-in-cheek as possible

Look I would pay real currency to watch a series of Anakin and Obi-Wan’s couples counseling. The angst and the passive-aggressiveness and the “I’m fine it’s fine everything’s fine” “NO IT’S NOT OBI-WAN NOTHING IS FINE”. Or individual Jedi counseling.

Better: I want to watch the documentary/mockumentary made by a GFFA psychologist who embeds themselves with the Jedi Order to better understand how they can all be so chill and collected – What’s their secret? How can we all learn, from their example, to embrace serenity in our own lives? – who eventually, as the documentary wears on, comes to realize that THE JEDI ORDER IS COMPRISED ENTIRELY OF EMOTIONAL TRAINWRECKS.

  • film critics: it is difficult to fully connect with Dunkirk's characters
  • me, still grieving over George, adopting Peter and Mr. Dawson as my brother and father, nearly weeping with joy when Collins survives his crash, hoping beyond hope that Farrier will escape, full-on panicking with every new horror Tommy faces, mentally hugging Gibson whenever he's onscreen, wanting to comfort the shivering soldier so badly that it physically hurts just thinking about it: can't relate

Jane Russell in one of the photographs from the notorious photo shoot she did for The Outlaw  (Howard Hughes, 1943)

The film was actually shot in 1941 but couldn’t get Production Code approval because of Russell’s bra-less breasts. It was released for a week in 1943 until the Code shut it down, and it was not until 1946 that the film was finally and widely released.

Box Office: 'Wonder Woman' Just Topped 'Green Lantern's Total Gross In One Weekend
'Wonder Woman' made $223 million on its worldwide opening weekend.
By Scott Mendelson

They said a female comic book superhero movie couldn’t work. They said women couldn’t direct big-budget action blockbusters. They said audiences overseas wouldn’t go for a big-budget spectacular not centered around a white guy. They said a lot of things over the last few decades. Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman just outgrossed the entire global total of Green Lantern ($219m) this weekend. Oh, and by tomorrow, it will probably be the biggest DC Comics movie ever not based around Batman or Superman. Sorry, Constantine ($230m in 2005 and sans 3D), I still think you’re pretty cool.
