In the UK, in the last 24 hours, more people have downloaded Carcharodons: The Reaping Time from iTunes than have downloaded the novelisation of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Reaping Time currently sits at number 32 in the UK’s top 100 ebook iTunes sales, whereas Rogue One is at 78. The sharks are also beating the (admittedly long-released) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling (59), E. L. James’s Fifty Shades of Grey (88) and Bernard Cornwell’s The Flame Bearer (97).
we're (the people; your patrons) always asking what you want to read, but I am interested in those books, etc, that you really could care less for wasting your time on, ?
How lovely, giving me a chance to spit completely subjectively in the face of books I haven’t read. Thank you!
First things first, I have little time and an affection for classics, so I have to admit I usually overlook a lot of still-living, less known authors just because I’m set in my ways. I will pick up a contemporary book once in a while, because I’m struck and interested in the theme, genre, author, or experimentation, but my go-to are usually older.
Now for well-known books I know about and yet actively avoid… Here’s a short list, off the top of my head:
The Sun Also Rises, Ernest Hemingway The Rules of Attraction, Bret Easton Ellis The Cursed Child, J. K. Rowling Fifty Shades of Grey, E. L. James On The Road, Jack Kerouac Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk Go Set A Watchman, Harper Lee Submission, Michel Houellebecq Holiday in a Coma, Frédéric Beigbeder Moby Dick, Herman Melville
And that’s basically it, really. I usually don’t close the door on books, even books I don’t see myself reading just right now, because even if they’re not to my taste they can teach me something valuable. My pet peeves mostly revolved about sexism-driven plots developed by writers whose writing voice I dislike as well. Also, I’m fairly sure I’d be bored to death with the whale-hunt theme, but I respect Melville very much (from afar).
Crazy In Love (Beyonce Fifty Shades of Grey Cover)
This is probably my favorite thing that I’ve ever recorded, I worked soo hard on it and it would mean the world to me if you would listen to it. If you do, use headphones if you can, it really sounds better that way!
Hi! have you ever thought of writing a smut book… like a collection of stories or something like that? I’m curious because I’ve read some of your sexy stuff and really love them. I would totally buy it, just imagine: “fifty shades of K”
Thank you! And…
I like this idea. <3 I could even have my spouse do little dirty illustrations.
