fifties scifi

One of my favorite fifties scifi films, “The 27th Day.” Overlooked classic may be stretching it, but it has a fascinating premise: aliens who want to conquer earth but refuse to get their hands dirty give five people from around the world cylinders with units that, when opened, would destroy their enemies. The Russian soldier is a stand up, decent guy, but he is tortured by his government into releasing his cylinder to them, for instance. It’s basically the Prisoner’s Dillemma: the Movie.
