REFIK ANADOL: Archive Dreaming (2017)

Commissioned to work with SALT Research collections, artist Refik Anadol employed machine learning algorithms to search and sort relations among 1,700,000 documents. Interactions of the multidimensional data found in the archives are, in turn, translated into an immersive media installation. Archive Dreaming, which is presented as part of The Uses of Art: Final Exhibition with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union, is user-driven; however, when idle, the installation “dreams” of unexpected correlations among documents. The resulting high-dimensional data and interactions are translated into an architectural immersive space.

Shortly after receiving the commission, Anadol was a resident artist for Google’s Artists and Machine Intelligence Program where he closely collaborated with Mike Tyka and explored cutting-edge developments in the field of machine intelligence in an environment that brings together artists and engineers. Developed during this residency, his intervention Archive Dreaming transforms the gallery space on floor -1 at SALT Galata into an all-encompassing environment that intertwines history with the contemporary, and challenges immutable concepts of the archive, while destabilizing archive-related questions with machine learning algorithms.

In this project, a temporary immersive architectural space is created as a canvas with light and data applied as materials. This radical effort to deconstruct the framework of an illusory space will transgress the normal boundaries of the viewing experience of a library and the conventional flat cinema projection screen, into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of an archive visualized with machine learning algorithms. By training a neural network with images of 1,700,000 documents at SALT Research the main idea is to create an immersive installation with architectural intelligence to reframe memory, history and culture in museum perception for 21st century through the lens of machine intelligence.

SALT is grateful to Google’s Artists and Machine Intelligence program, and Doğuş Technology, ŠKODA, Volkswagen Doğuş Finansman for supporting Archive Dreaming.

Egyptians associated ‘back’ and ‘spine’ with magical powers, and the Egyptian word “psd” for 'spine’ can also mean 'to give light’, 'to gleam’, or 'to shine’. A snake is mostly a living spinal column, something the Egyptians noticed. They understood the vivifying nature of the spine, endowed with :life-giving properties”. Texts from the Old Kingdom on, mention the back (spine) or the bones which comprise it, in contexts, suggest they were all believed to fulfill magic or physiological functions
The Egyptian snake mythology goes beyond deities to encompass another understanding, also expressed in the Hindu concept of Kundalini and the Eastern concept of Chi. It is the life force as it expresses itself, and the cycles it makes. The spine is the central navigating path for the life force, which the Egyptians call Ka. This life force, understood in Hindu mythology as the chakra system, expresses itself through seven energy centers in the astral body which correspond to nerve ganglia branching out from the spinal column. The word “Kindalini in Sanskrit.. kund, “to burn”; kunda, “to coil or to spiral”. The Hindu belief is that within each person resides a sleeping “serpent” coiled up tightly at the base of the spine. When aroused, the serpent force at the base of the spine darts upward, bringing a concentrated field of intelligent, cosmic invisible energy that rises up the center channel of the spine to the brain, where it allegedly awakens spiritual illumination and inner perception.

LIGHT YOUR OWN FIRE: How I Went From Being a 1st Generation At-Risk High School Student to UCLA Graduate/Published Co-Author/Psych Masters Student

I’m a 24-year-old first generation Cambodian with a degree in Anthropology from UCLA, multiple co-authored publications, breast cancer research experience, and now I’m currently in pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology while learning to code in my free time in hopes that moving forward, I will be able to combine technology with my formal education regarding humans and the human mind—possibly working in the field of Artificial Intelligence. I live near Venice/Santa Monica, drive a stick shift Infiniti, I’m an occasional DJ and amateur baton twirler, I speak multiple languages, I can do handstands and the splits–there’s really nothing that’s outside of my realm of possibilities.

I share my current situation not to brag, but to give you insight on how far I have come…because how I got to this point started as a matter of survival.

Born to two Cambodian immigrants who escaped the Khmer Rouge in their teen years, my life starting out was really challenging.

My parents barely managed to graduate high school…so the best job my mom could get back then was working at Rite Aid. Meanwhile, my father stayed home taking care of me and my older brother. We were really poor, but I was happy—I didn’t know any other way of life.

I spent a lot of time with my father reading books and going to the library. He stressed reading and education to me really early on and in hindsight, I see that it’s because he wanted for me, what he could never have—a college education.

Up until about 7 years old, we lived in not so great neighborhoods around Long Beach, CA before finally moving to the Central Valley. My father’s father passed away so we moved up north to Fresno to be with my 70 year old grandmother. This is when everything started going downhill.

I remember nights when my mother wouldn’t come home, often saying she was staying with my aunt. As a child, I remember being worried, but always unsure why this was happening. It all started to come together for me one morning when my father was driving us to our new school. My mom hadn’t come home the night before which didn’t bother me too much. I was used to her being absent—and when she was around, she wasn’t the nicest person anyways. At a stoplight, in the car next to us, it was my mother in the passenger seat…and an unfamiliar man driving her car.

This is the point that flipped my whole life upside down.

I couldn’t go to school that morning because I didn’t want anyone to see my crying. My dad forced my mom to get in the car and on the way home, he was swerving in anger in attempt to try and kill all of us.

The next morning, I woke up to loud noises in my parent’s room next door. My dad was on a rampage throwing and breaking everything in the room…he even ripped the nailed down lamp off the wall. Then I heard my mother scream, “I don’t want the kids, you can put them in foster care.” I laid there silently, both scared and sad at the time…tears rolling off my face onto my pillow.

This was the breaking point for my parents. My dad was taken to jail and later released and my mom went to stay…wherever it is she would usually go.

Fast forward a year later, my dad won custody of me and my brother and my mother was pregnant with the man in the car’s son. I didn’t see my mom much after that. She never used her visitation rights. But I was happy with my brother, father and grandmother…until my father met my stepmother.

Long story short, he ended up moving away to another town with her when I was in 5th or 6th grade leaving me with my grandmother who didn’t even speak English. On the upside, it made me fluent in Khmer which I am grateful for. But on the downside, I felt abandoned and the world suddenly got really dark. My grandmother favored my brother, not an unusual circumstance in the Cambodian culture, but he would hit me or do other cruel things like read my journal to the boy I liked in school and get away with it. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to commit suicide under these circumstances.

The sad part about all of this was that I was a stellar student. I was in the junior doctor’s academy, I was first chair flute in band, I always got straight A’s…but once my dad left, I stopped caring. I began to question why no one would stick around.

Junior year of high school, I completely gave up. I was in my third year of French, AP Bio and AP US History because I was testing at a high level, but I just stopped going to school. Instead, I was getting drunk wherever I could, with whoever I could every night and sleeping in until the afternoon. I learned quickly that no one was going to do anything about it. The school would call my grandma but she couldn’t understand English…not that I even cared what my grandma would have to say to me. I ended up getting put on home studies for kids who were at risk not to graduate high school which was really funny to me because I knew I wasn’t a true risk. Even on home studies, I couldn’t make it to the once a week sessions with my teacher who would assign homework that was way too easy for me. I continued to party and drink instead.

But one morning, it was like a switch went off in my head that said, “You’re too smart to live like this forever. It’s time to do something.” I went to my home studies teacher and told him I wanted to take the California High School Proficiency Exam so that I could leave high school and start college. He laughed, shrugged his shoulders and said, “It’s hard, not a lot a students pass.” When I left, I remember thinking to myself, “Just watch.”

A month later, I managed to behave and not get drunk the night before the test. I was 16 years old at this point. There were three sections to the test: math, verbal and written. All of which were too easy for me. My background growing up with a love for books made me an exceptional writer and test taker. I left the test feeling pretty dandy and carried on normally for next month or so—but I stopped going to school altogether because I was certain I didn’t need to. The evening before the results came out, I was with my best friend, Brittanie, who pretty much saved my life back then just by being my friend because she was the opposite of me—an intelligent, superstar athlete who is now in medical school. But she encouraged me to check the scores online even though I didn’t think they were up yet.

They were in fact ready—and I passed all subjects with nearly perfect scores…and just like that I was done with high school.

From that point to where I am now, it took a lot of grit…I experienced way too many obstacles, but time after time, I was able to overcome them and that’s why I decided to write this article—I want to explain the mindset that it took to get me from abandoned/neglected teen at risk not to graduate high school to UCLA graduate/published author/experienced scientific researcher/Master’s student.

I continue to face obstacles to this day, but one of the biggest challenges I have faced since day one is a lack of support/encouragement. But here is how I deal with it:

I don’t take no for an answer. When one door shuts, I find another one to open. And I don’t stop until I get in. I call it optimistic relentlessness. Take rejection with a smile, move to the next door. Don’t focus on the rejection, focus on the possibilities.

I don’t give up. I had a mentor once tell me, if you quit one thing, you’ll start to quit everything. So something I tell myself when I’m lifting weights is that I can’t stop the set until I’m ready to cry. I apply this to real life, nothing I protest doing or want to quit is never really that bad…I constantly ask myself, “What happens if I don’t give up?” It’s more rewarding to speak to myself this way rather than just being demanding towards myself. There is quite literally a reward to not giving up.

I believe in myself even if no one else will. This is the most challenging part of getting to where I am. No one told me to go to UCLA, and I don’t report back to anyone about my accomplishments. I have always had to push myself and that requires igniting a fire within, trusting and believing that I AM capable and that I AM smart. No one thought that I would reach as far as I have, but it’s truly been a matter of telling myself YES I CAN. I shut out all opinions/thoughts and only listen to my own.

I nourish my mind with positive thoughts, inspiration and knowledge. What keeps my fire blazing is that I find the resources and information I need to get where I need to go. This is driven by a desire to do and be better every single day so that I never fall back to the helpless state I was once in. The key to success is truly education, whether through a formal system or just the internet. I also use my blog as a source of inspiration because the quotes and things I post, I use as inspiration for myself so when I return to my blog, I always have inspiring reminders to keep me going.

I surround myself with people who are walking similar paths. I learned early on to be around people who are doing the things I want to be doing. Again, it was a matter of survival and I knew finding the right friends was crucial for me to escape a potential future working at a fast food restaurant. I may not have had similar upbringings as most of my friends, but I managed to make quality friends because I put myself in places with people where we had similar end goals.

I don’t allow negativity in my life. If anyone talks down to me, disrespects me, or makes me feel anything less than great, I walk away. I do not tolerate any kind of negative energy in my life because I experienced enough of that in my early life. This is really adamant because it’s like trying to climb a mountain with heavy weight, if you drop the unnecessary weight, you can climb faster. Negative people/energy = heavy weight. Drop it. Get away from it. Don’t let it come near you! But don’t forget to check yourself either. Words carry energy, whether its talking to yourself or someone else, stay away from the negative energy zone! It’s completely unproductive for you and the world around you.

I forgive, frequently, very frequently. Similar to the climbing a mountain analogy, holding grudges and being angry at people is imprisoning yourself and is a complete waste of time and energy. I’ve learned to let go of the pain of my past because it held me back so much. I would have meltdowns…often angry about what my parents did and didn’t do. I wasted a lot of time and energy circulating those thoughts…when I finally let them go, I was free. The difference in energy was amazing. I didn’t feel pain or suffering anymore…From then on, I stopped holding grudges because I only want to hold positive, light energy in my soul and to do that, I have to forgive not just other people, but also myself…for not performing better, or forgetting to do something…It’s important to just let things go and keep your focus on your future. The past is over.

I give thanks to God. I believe there is a higher power that has kept me safe because I truly have good intentions…intentions to serve others and make the world better than when I found it. Whether you believe in a God or not, being grateful always makes life feel abundant. I struggled a lot on my journey, but I always took time to reflect on where I was, the doors that opened for me…I’m eternally grateful that I get to even breathe. The rest isn’t so bad when you realize you could be starving in a third world country or even be dead. But the more I say thank you for even the smallest things, the more blessings I seem to receive, because all of a sudden, everything is like a gift–the front parking spot, the free scoop of ice cream, the dollar on the ground…Plus, a grateful heart is full of joy. The more gratitude expressed, the more joy you will feel…and that joy can take you from being a miserable nobody to being a source of hope and inspiration for the world.

Who I am now from where I started was and still is an endless series of trial of error. I have achieved so much from where I began, but I worked HARD to constantly adjust my thoughts and I continue to every day because the journey never stops, and the obstacles don’t stop coming. I continue to become better, smarter, wiser and as I look back…I am deeply humbled by the moments of weakness that turned to moments of strength…And at the end of my life, despite all the failures/shortcomings, at least I’ll always know that I was fearless in this lifelong battle.

I wrote this because I truly want to see our society with less struggle and I want to see more people on fire for life…so this is me holding your hand through your journey and cheering you on screaming, “YES YOU CAN!” There is no reason why we can’t all be successful and it starts right now with the thoughts we carry, the mindset that we have…And if you, like myself, want to set fire to other candlesticks, share this knowledge! Share YOUR knowledge. Let’s not keep anyone in the dark…

…because the more fires we light, the brighter the world will be.

Our intelligence struggles to think its way out of the mirrored labyrinth, but the actual exit is to be found only by turning aside, now and then, from the churning of thought, dropping beneath the spell of inner speech to listen into the wordless silence. Only by frequenting that depth, again and again, can our ears begin to remember the many voices that inhabit that silence, the swooping songs and purring rhythms and antler-smooth movements that articulate themselves in the eloquent realm beyond the words. Only thus do we remember ourselves to the deeper field of intelligence, to the windblown thinking that is not ours, upon which all our thoughts depend.
—  David Abram, Becoming Animal

“There is a dimension of unending, ever-deepening Bliss that resides within us. The Unmanifest, Eternal Self hidden behind the manifestation. This unified field of pure intelligence transcends limits of our thoughts, feelings, physical bodies, habits and social roles within this polarized, 3D Matrix. I will meet you there.“  -Anon I mus (Spiritually Anonymous)

Jackson “Savage” Skoczny during ZIA field briefing, 1969

While Judy Hopps is Zootopia’s first rabbit field police officer, rabbits has for a long time been involved in the intelligence community, keeping the peace from behind the scenes.

“Zootopia’s intelligence community has since its first inception utilized smaller mammals in their activities. Rodents and lagomorphs are often overlooked as threats due to their stature, and are naturally adept at remaining inconspicuous in plain sight while remaining highly approachable to contacts, and they served as agents of investigation and intelligence gathering alike.

"One of the most notable of these agents, and the inspiration for the classic spy novels and movies, is Jackson "Savage” Skoczny, a lifelong nickname which originated internally from within the Zootopia Bureau of Investigation. He entered the Bureau in 1961 as a junior field agent where he assisted senior investigators in numerous federal cases. His breakthrough occurred in 1962 when he apprehended the notorious Bear Cub Butcher who had evaded the law for several years after a streak of murders. He remained a senior field agent in charge of a junior team under his supervision up until 1965 when he became an executive assistant director for the national security branch.

“In 1967 he was offered a position within the ZIA where he became a senior intelligence gathering field agent, and it was during this time that his greatest exploits occurred, which has only recently become declassified and known to the public in association with his retirement in 2009, most notably the Operation: Cease which overtime morphed into the Savage Seas incident we know of today […]”

- Excerpt from “Heroes of Little Note: The History of Small Mammal Servicemen” (2013) by Jeanette Souris

A doodle that became way too much for its own good.

While most sets their headcanons about Jack Savage as someone who is a secret agent at the same time as Zootopia the movie, I’ve instead set him in the ‘60s and ‘70s where he is a more of a dorky Roger Moore with knitted shirts rather than a Judy-seducing Daniel Craig.

Game Over - [BTS] Namjoon!Au

Prompt: “Times like this I doubt your intelligence.”

Namjoon tries to poke the screw into the USB port. “Where does this go.” He muttered to himself as you watch. At the same time, you were looking around to see if there’s cars passing by, but it’s close to evening and there’s barely any cars or kind people around. Namjoon forgets his phone and drained your battery, playing cooking games on them—and now you’re stuck in a semi-used highway that’s about to be abolished in two weeks’ time because there’s another highway being developed.

“There’s barely any car passing by Namjoon, we’re going to die here. How can you be so relaxed?” You throw your head back and spun around in frustration. “Because, panicking about it won’t solve the problem.” He shot, sitting on the dashboard of the car, cross-legged in the calmest manner any human could afford to be in this alarming situation. “It’s going to get dark really soon, and we don’t bring food.” Pacing left and right wasn’t going to make the situation better. “Besides, being relaxed about it doesn’t solve it either.” You added a tiny shake of your head, disapproving his method of problem solving.

“I shouldn’t have listened to you.” You muttered.

EXO as mafia

You have no idea how excited I am to answer this. I’ve been imagining this AU since seeing this photoshoot.

Xiumin: The underboss of the family, he oversees the drug-trafficking operation and is strict with those beneath him, but very close to the administration. He was so good at chemistry that he has made their own special brands of narcotics and designer drugs.

Luhan: He was rich kid looking for trouble, which got him a busted lip and bruised ribs when he ended up in a fight with Kai. The family took him in to handle their dealings with politicians and officials (bribery) because of his connections.

Kris: He was voted to be the boss at a young age when he was still a little too rambunctious. He’s matured, though he still gets involved with the day to day work so he won’t lose his edge. He’s protective of the family and when people see his gold Ferrari in the streets, they have visceral reactions.

Suho: Joonmyun is the legitimate front for the family, wealthy businessman and stock broker to the rest of the world, but he really deals with the finances of the group (i.e. tax evasion). To use the Italian term, he’s always been the most trusted consigliere.

Lay: Yixing is co-leader of a racing crew belonging to the family. He has a winning smile, which has gotten him a fan club down at the track. He was injured in a crash, but not to worry - they “took care” of the perpetrator and he’ll be back soon.

Baekhyun: He does most of the behind-the-scenes planning and logistics for whatever job the group is pulling. He’s helped to bring the family into the future with his technology and hacking skills. He likes that it keeps him safely behind closed doors.

Chen: Jongdae is in charge of in-the-field intelligence gathering. He often works with Baekhyun. His smile is irresistable and he has a way of getting others to spill their secrets. Once, he charmed his way into an art museum storage vault.

Chanyeol: He runs a lot of the illegal gambling operations for the family. He has been known to fix races, from dogs to horses to cars.  He’s been in a tight spot once or twice with law enforcement, but it was all smoothed out by Kyungsoo.

D.O: Kyungsoo enjoys being out in the field and while his role in the group is extortion and he has muscle to back him up, he’s not afraid to get his own hands dirty. Though his talents lie in reading others - their fears and motives.

Tao: Ace sniper and hitman, he has a reputation for being merciless and never getting caught because of his training in martial arts. Before joining, he was just a kid living by his wits. He is intensely loyal to the family which took him in.

Kai: In a similar position to Tao before he joined, Kai ran away from home and was taken in by the previous boss, who had him patched up and taken care of. Now he helps them with heists thanks to his agility and disarming looks.

Sehun: In charge of a street racing crew along with Yixing, Sehun has a lot of technical know-how and during the day, he often works on making car bombs. Chanyeol was the one who recommended him, knowing of his multiple talents.

Resistances and Dalliances

Chapter 10: Arcus Drift

“Let’s go over that again,” Saar said, reproachful eyes beginning to weary a little from all the questioning, but still far too full of determination to keep them sitting there till only bones remained. “What is your military strength?”

“We are not a military force,” Ryder repeated by rote. “We have the Nexus, which won’t move. We have arks. They do not have huge guns. We have the Tempest. Again, no big guns. It’s literally parked on your doorstep. There is nothing else we have that could even approach a military force strong enough to threaten the angara.”

Unified Field of Consciousness

Einstein believed that there was an equation for a Unified Field that could explain the reason for everything in existence.  With this knowledge, time, space and even humanity’s origin could be deeply understood.

Today, in the world of quantum physics, there are so many mysteries that our current understanding of reality seems unequipped to grasp phenomena such as the double slit experiment, the observer effect, phantom DNA and quantum entanglement.  At the same time, there are many scholars beginning to think outside the box.

Quantum Physicist Ph.D. John Hagelin explains the foundation of the Universe is a single Universal field of intelligence.  Particles of nature are understood to be One, a Universal ocean of pure, vibrant consciousness in motion. We are just different ripples on a single ocean of existence at the basis of everything.

Just as the waves are continuous with the ocean. Your body is continuous with the total energy system of the cosmos, and it’s all you.
— Alan Watts

New evidence is beginning to show us that everything is Energy and the result of an indiscernible sound wave or frequency. Vibrational frequency creates the energy that becomes solid matter. Galaxies, planets, plants, animals and humans are all just waves of vibration of this Unified Field. In essence, we are literally united and One at the core!

Connected Universe

The Universe is connected and alive and we are a part of the metric of space.
— Nassim Haramein

Nassim Haramein, the Director of Research at the Resonance Foundation, was deeply inspired by Einstein and continued to pursue Einstein’s idea that geometry held the key to creating a unified equation for the Universe. He proposes that space is not empty, but rather full of untapped energy.  This action, reaction, and connection between the energy present in space is creating a dynamic flow in the Universe.  Simply put, it could be thought of as “the Universe is dancing with energy”.

In the Resonance Foundations various media productions, Nassim explains the idea of a Holofractographic Universe. His findings explore the fractal (infinitely repeating pattern), holographic (illusion) and geometric nature of space from the macrocosm to the microcosm, and thus how the potential of the Whole is within each piece of the Universe on every scale.

Geometry will draw the soul toward truth and create the spirit of philosophy.
— Plato

Sacred Geometry

Learn how to see. Realize that everything is connected to everything else.
— Leonardo da Vinci

Everything in the universe is geometrically connected.  Sacred Geometry is the source code of the Unified Field. It’s the language of nature, a fundamental blueprint of the universal creation process.

It’s not a coincidence that human hands & tree branches have the same fractal growth patterns or that our hearts & the Earth have the same toroidal-shaped electromagnetic field.  Even our embryos contain the fundamental geometries of star clusters and galaxies. Patterns are always present when our eyes are open. Every single system in nature uses fundamental mathematical languages as a template for growth. We can find all kinds of mathematical formulas and sequences in nature, such as the Golden spiral/ratio or Fibonacci sequence/numbers in pineapples, sunflowers, tornado formations and even galaxy arms.

When we start to see universal patterns everywhere we look, a realization of interconnection occurs deep within us. We start to see that all is intimately unified. When this occurs, we begin to simply choose Love in every aspect of our lives.

True love is born from understanding.
— Buddha

Ascension & Healing HeArt

As our understanding of Sacred Geometry develops, we begin to see deeper connections between Science & Spirituality.  As a reminder of our interconnected & united nature with all life, interacting with Sacred Geometry on a daily basis invites harmony & balance into our experience. This idea inspired and changed my life profoundly and I found myself at the center of my passions by exploring Sacred Geometry as a communication tool with consciousness in everyday life.  I found my purpose by participating in nature’s harmony.

Beauty is a manifestation of secret natural laws, which otherwise would have been hidden from us forever.
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I’ve learned that visualization & attention are key in spiritual growth.  They are fundamental in many energy practices such as Qigong, Tai-chi and Reiki. Creating designs based on Sacred Geometry help us to visualize, touch and play with Universal Energy formations, giving us direct communication with the divine. This is a meditative art that can help us find resonance with our inner and outer lives. Eventually this intention brought me to develop my dream project, Healing HeArt, where I am able to develop and share this deep and meaningful experience with everyone by creating personal communication tools and crafts for seekers.

For the first time in human history we have technology to create precise patterns without any error or mistake. Thankfully there are laser machines available for everyone to produce any possible design from a collective digital platform to the physical world.  The possibilities are infinite when it comes to creating art pieces, tools, crafts, toys or even small size constructions wherein we can meditate or experience the harmonious presence around us.

These limitless possibilities inspired me to take action, and as a result, I began an Indiegogo campaign to gain enough support in order to access a laser device with the intention to share this inspirational art with everyone.  I need your help to manifest this collective dream! As Sacred Geometry reflects the potential of the collective, we can also create amazing innovations together and support various artists with our collaboration.

You are not here reading this by accident, you are here for a greater purpose than you could ever imagine. We are here to restore the balance and uplift humanity into the next stage of evolution; from separated duality consciousness to interconnected unity consciousness, in which all life is in equilibrium and harmony.

Let’s manifest this co-creative dream together!

So Jacob and Evie, do you ever get into the fight club ring and go against each other? How does that usually go? I can only imagine based on the fights my brothers get into, that I usually manage to avoid XD (this blog is AWESOME! :D )

Evie grinned, looking at her brother with a raise of her brow as if to flaunt herself mutely before speaking in a forward fashion. “I usually win,” Evie said without falter.

Jacob’s scoffing groan rumbling in his throat as he quickly chimed in for his defense, “I let her win!”

“Oh really?” Evie questioned, turning to her brother with a mischievous smirk. “Care to put that sort of logic to the test again in the ring, brother dearest?”

“You may be one to display your intelligence, sweet sister, but it is I who has the strength when it comes to the bloody brawls,” taunted Jacob as he reclined back into the chair with a cocky stretch. “What kind of brother would I be if I struck my own sister down?”

She sneered with a roll of her eyes. “For real then—you and me in the ring, and don’t you dare hold back as you swear you are!” Evie was one to get high marks in the intelligence field for sure, but she wasn’t going to let her brother try to one-up her in terms of strength either.

{Ooh, I think their fights might be a different than yours, dear. ;D And thank you, my lovely~!}

Ms. Powers Part 2

“I’m sorry,” Tony drew out, “a what?”

Before Fury could speak you jumped in, “A mutant. A person with a little known genetic phenomena that has given me…abilities.”

“Abilities like what,” Dr. Banner asked.

“Well, at first it was subtle. When I was younger I was always quicker and stronger than the other kids and my scrapes would heal quicker; but as I got older the DNA took root and I was able to run quicker than the fastest horse and lift things heavier than a full tree,” Tony squinted his eyes at your comparisons. “I’m super old remember Tony. We’re talking, early settlements in the New World, old.” He took that like a slap in the face. “As I was saying… the DNA took root on my 16 birthday. And after that I had control over the elements- manipulating earth, air, water, and fire- tougher skin and I stopped aging slowly.”

“You stopped aging when you were…what,” Tony said sarcastically, “12?”

“No, wise guy, around 21. But my main ability is a bit more complex.” You looked at the wondering eyes across the room- with the exception of Fury, Romanoff, and Barton who had all knew this- and continued. “There are other mutants in the world, some don’t even know they are what they are but most hide their abilities. My ability makes me able to almost copy and paste a person’s ability into my ‘database.’ So for example, I met a man with telekinesis. years ago. Upon meeting him I was able to harness his ability for myself and now I can do this,” the team watched as the table they were sitting at lifted into the air, hovering just above the ground.

“So you take the powers of others?”

“No,” you told Steve, “it’s like copy and pasting someone’s text,” you remembered who you were talking to, “- it’s like getting a note from someone and you rewriting it in your own notebook. That’s why some people call me Ms. Powers.” The crew nodded in understanding.

“No offense Y/N but if you have all these great powers why weren’t you in New York with us?”

“That’s why you are all here,” Fury said, “Y/N was unable to fight with you all in New York because she had her own mission. As you’ve all heard on base by now Y/N and her team were taking part in Mission Storm. This classified mission was a recall of a high tech weapon that was capable of incineration by targeting located in Northeastern Asia. Using a high compact laser the machine made it possible for the user to plug in their target and obliterate it from up to 10 miles away. Thank’s to Loki this machine ran on a laser made from the Tesseract’s energy.”

“Not only was this Tesseract laser able to completely destroy whatever the user saw fit but it was also able to act as another doorway to space if Loki’s plan didn’t go straight. We tracked it from the time the Loki came and took the spear and after we learned his plan for this machine could be even more dangerous than him with the spear my team and I had to act quick,” you stated.

“I’m sorry,” Tony began sassing you, “but don’t you think that the first priority should have been closing the portal that let thousands of aliens attack Earth!?”

“First off, Mr. Stark, I may be a head of this agency but I had a job that I had to do. This was high risk and sending any agent in there would have meant absolute harm or death to them. Secondly, I was on call for you all. If anything had gone wrong or if anything came up where I was the only answer I would have been called in and been in New York within two minutes.”

“No S.H.I.E.L.D jet could have gotten you to New York in two minutes.”

“That’s correct, Dr. Banner, but a person with the ability for superhuman fast flight would be able too.”

“Yes,” he hesitated, “I suppose they would be.”

“I was just about to call Y/N when it looked like Stark was stuck in the wormhole but, he did what he does best, and fell through so I figured we were good,” Fury announced to the group. “Now that you are together you’ll all be working together as the Avengers team. Please,” he looked right at Tony, “try and play nice together.” Fury ended the meeting and left quickly to go to his next order of business.

Quickly, before the group could leave, you asked, “In order for all of us to get to know each other I’d really like it if you’d all come over to my house tonight for dinner.” They all agreed, and one by one, left the conference room. Natasha stopped to talk to you, “Need any help with dinner tonight? An of help I of course mean would you like me to show up early and talk with you and you cook?” You both smiled at each other and laughed. “I’d love your help, Nat, come over at 6. I’ve got to go I have training with the new recruits.”

“Hey Y/N,” you and Nat turned to see Steve in the door, “would you mind if I came and saw how you train the new recruits?”

“I’ll come too; you know how I like to help scare the newbies into shape,” Nat commented.

“Only if you guys can keep up,” you coyly smiled. “Training starts in 20.”

Steve and Natasha walked together to the outdoor building that the new recruits were meeting Y/N at for training. Steve looked down at his watch. “Training was suppose to start 15 minutes ago, where is Y/N?”

Natasha smiled up at him, “Trust me Cap just wait and see.” Watching from the side Steve could see the groups forming. The big brawny guys that Steve knew all too well from his military days flocked together and stayed far away from the recruits that were lesser in size or were entering the I.T department. He could hear the rejections and the snickers that came from the group as they mocked some of their weaker peers. He shook his head knowing the feeling all too well. “Don’t worry Cap, Y/N doesn’t stand for that,” Nat said sensing his thoughts. Just as she said that, a recruit finished walking around trying to talk with the different groups. She walked up to the front of the room and stood up on the platform. “Excuse me,” she said at a normal level; only a small portion of the people turned to listen. “Hello,” she said a little louder. A couple more people turned to the front. “Ladies and Gentlemen,” the recruit on stage belted. With that, everyone turned and looked up at the new girl. The small stature and blonde ponytail shifted in front of all their eyes into you. The recruits looked up at you confused, “I am Director General Y/N Whitmore,” at the mention of your name they stood to attention. “Tell me Fuller,” the eyes shifter to one of the meatheads that stood mocking the others before, “why is it that you and so many others paid no attention to me when I came up here and started talking?”

Fuller looked around uncomfortable. “I’ll tell you why,” you continued, “because you and most of your lot looked at me as a nerd that wasn’t worth your time. Those of you who looked at me when I was in disguise and wrote me off- you failed miserably. Here at S.H.I.E.L.D it doesn’t matter if you are an agent in the field, in intelligence, or in tech. And here, at this base especially, you all have to work together as a team. This base is for the best and the brightest of the agents and the process you all had to go through to even gain clearance for this base should prove that you have to work hard, individually and together, to make it here.” Y/N’s words spread over the crowd. “Since it seems that you are unable to coexist right now I will be making your groups for training.” Steve watched as the tight knit group of jocks got separated.

Once they were in their new groups Y/N continued talking, “Now, I’d like to introduce you to Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff; you may have heard of them as Captain America and Black Widow.” Steve and Natasha got up from their seats and walked up to the front with you.

You turned to face Steve and Nat, “are you guys down for training with the newbies?”

Nat smirked, “it’ll be nice to put them in their place on the first day. I’m down.” Steve nodded in reply to your question. You looked back up to the crowd in front of you.

“Alright then. Recruits: grab your water. We are going for a run.” The trainees dispursed to get their water and strap it in their belts. As they did you turned to Steve and Nat. “Hope you can keep up.”
