fictitious characters

Forged Love - summary

For @katamount (and anyone else who is interested) who was curious for a few more details about “Forged Love”— here is the story summary I’ve written:

In the early 1830s on the west coast of Vancouver Island, a trading ship meets with a terrible fate, sparing only two lives, and a bond is forged that transcends survival.

When their captain’s rash behaviour results in a violent confrontation with the people of Nootka Sound, an adventurous, seventeen-year-old blacksmith and the thirty-year-old, dejected wife of a Hudson’s Bay Company officer are taken as slaves by the “tyee"— the powerful chief of the region. As months stretch into years, and expectations of rescue drift away, Peeta and Katniss discover that hope…and love…can bloom, even from within the fiery crucible of their captivity.

“Forged Love” is inspired by the real-life memoir of British blacksmith and ship’s armourer, John R. Jewitt (though my story and the characters are fictitious). The age-gap, survival idea came from the novel “On the Island” by Tracey Garvis Graves. I hope that this both piques your curiosity and holds you until I post Ch.1 on Friday.😊

The Girl in the Pond Pt. 2 (Bones: Marvel AU)

Characters  in this chapter: Steve Rogers, Female Reader, Wanda Maximoff, Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Natasha Romanoff, Original Male Character

Warnings: Language, More talks about a dead body, Slight violence.

Pairings: None. (Eventual Steve Rogers x Reader)

Summary: You are a forensic anthropologist working for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. when you and your team get recruited by the FBI to aid one of their top field agents, Special Agent Steve Rogers. Together, along with  your colleagues/friends you put faces on the voiceless and throw the bad guys where they belong.

Author’s Note: So this is my first Marvel AU series and I’m quite nervous on how this is going to turn out. The series is going to be based on the TV show Bones and since the show is 12 seasons long I’m just going to base the series on some of my favorite episodes including the series finale coming out in the upcoming weeks. I only hope I do it justice. I want to thank @mrs-squirrel-chester for convincing me into writing this and for not only being as awesome beta but because she also made this kick-ass edit above.

“What’s the context of the find?” you asked Agent Rogers as you both walked down the grassy hill, reading the names on the rows of white marble headstones.

“Routine landscaping,” Steve replied, looking down at his notepad. “Dropped a load in the local pond, one of the workmen thought he saw something.”

You recognized the emblem on the side of the black windowless van that was parked a few yards away from the pond; it was the Smithsonian Medico-Legal Lab emblem. The passenger door opened and a young man hopped out; duffle bag in one hand and a camera in the other.

Recognizing him immediately, you waved him over. “Hi Peter.”

Peter greeted you with a hug, ““This eco-warrior look works for you. Very action oriented.”

“Thanks.” you replied, looking down at your outfit. “Agent Rogers, you remember my assistant Peter Parker?”

“Of course,” Agent Rogers answered, sticking out his right hand. “Great to see you again kid.”

“How was Guatemala? Dig up lots of massacred victims? Learn a thing or two about machete strikes?” Peter asked you, completely ignoring Steve, who made a face at Peter’s rude gesture.

You cleared your throat and Peter quickly realized his mistake. “Sorry,” he muttered, taking Agent Rogers’ hand to give it a firm shake. “Good to see you again Agent.”

“Hey Pete, I need water samples and temperature readings from the pond,” you ordered.

“Right away doc.”  He spun on his heel, quickly turning the other way, leaving you alone with Agent Rogers.

“Kid’s got no sense of discretion. Typical Squint…” Steve said, as they reached the river bank.

“Squint?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Ah you know, when cops get stuck, we bring in people like you. You know? Squints. You know, you squint at things,” Steve explained with a shit-eating grin. “Like this,” he demonstrated for you.

“Oh, you mean people with very high IQ’s and basic reasoning skills?” You gave him a smart-ass answer.

His smile dropped, giving you a look as if he had just tucked his tail between his legs. “Yeah.”

One of my biggest issues with fictionkin

Ok, to be fair I really think the entire concept of fictionkin is stupid.  You’re not someone else’s creation, you don’t have memories of being that character.  Saying you are, or that you do, really doesn’t look good.  Even if you claim to be mentally ill, calling yourself “literally” ink on paper or pixels on a screen is nothing short of utterly embarrassing.

But what REALLY irks me about fictionkin, is when a person who claims to be “kin” with a character claims that the character is a different sexuality or gender than they are in the canon story.

This happened to my favorite character in a series.  People started to become kin with him, and several even claimed that he was either trans female or a demigirl, and also assigned a shitload of weird sexualities to his character.  And that is not at all accurate.  It’s been shown in the series, through the makers themselves, that he is 1000% cisgendered.  He is male and sees himself as male.  And, in one of the episodes where he had to put on a maid dress in canon, he absolutely hated it and did nothing but protest.  And for those of us who are big fans of that character, it makes us very uncomfortable and very unhappy to see these assholes running around and associating themselves with him.

I don’t even see why someone would even bother to take a notably cis male character, who is proven to be 100% straight, and make them something else.  Anyone who’s a fan of the series and character knows that the character, knows that you’re full of shit, so what do you think you’re accomplishing by doing this?  I find it so disrespectful when people take a character creator’s canon and say it’s not the real canon.  I know people want representation, but this is NOT the way to go about it.  These characters are the result of someone’s hard work and effort, they are not a template for you to build on to suit yourself.  They are not a starting block for you to take and use as you please.  If you want representation, make your own character from scratch.  Don’t mutilate someone else’s property.

Fictionkin are so disrespectful.  Not just to the other fans of the series or character they claim to be kin with, but also to the creator of that character, and even the character themselves.  You’re not doing anyone justice with your kin bullshit.  Being kin with a character is not showing love or appreciation for the character or the series.  You’re changing the character and the canon plot, which means you don’t love it at all.  If you did truly love it, you wouldn’t feel the need to change anything to fit yourself.

And that is also why you are not, and never will be, the character you claim you are.

Fictionkin have no right to lash out at other people for being “doubles” or “fakes.”  Doubles and fakes aren’t real.  By claiming to be a fictitious character, you yourself are already a fake.  An impostor.  A liar.

You fictionkin want to be treated with respect?

Then why don’t you start by treating us with respect?

Why don’t you start by treating our content and creations with respect by leaving them alone?

I LOVE Kikyo. I love her so much thanks to opening myself up to discussion and new perspectives. I used to hate her so deeply for literally existing and I’m telling you, even if it’s over fictitious characters, I have changed so much in the past decade. We can all grow with new information and outlooks on things if we allow ourselves that freedom.

prettypunkprincess  asked:

Can I just say that the person you were "arguing" with did make some (keyword: some) good points, but at the same time they're attacking possibly one of the most realistic pieces of fiction out there. One thing that you said that stuck with me "You picture gay people as nothing but sweet happy and holy people" I laughed so hard because you hit it on the head. I'm gay, and so many people think that just because they see my happy mask that I'm nothing but rainbows and sunshine. (1/?)

I hate it because so many people assume that I’ve been relatively happy all my life. That’s so far from true. I have self-harm scars, I’ve been admitted to the hospital because my dad and stepmom were scared I’d kill myself. And it’s amazing when people immediately label the KS fandom as “disgusting”. It’s graphic, it has some really fucked up scenes, and YEA Sangwoo DOES indeed need to go to prison, but the way I see it is a majority of this fandom (male and female) stuck around… (2/3)

because there’s a macabre sense of reality in this well-drawn piece of fiction. Not everything that happens in KS applies to everyone, there are things here and there that speak to a variety of people because let’s face it, Bum’s life is p fucked up, but that’s the majority of what drives people be a part of this fandom. There’s a sense of reality and these fictitious characters are more real than any plastic bitch, or random dickbag starting discourse about someone’s fandom on Tumblr. (3/3)

Sorry for the rant in your inbox…. I wasn’t too sure if you’re ok with people messaging you.

I may have agreed quite weakly that they ended up having very few good points about fiction if they had just been a bit more open minded and not so hostile.. but I can see your perspective on this.

I mean, I wouldn’t argue that KS isn’t disgusting, because it is– as in it depicts very disgusting, painful scenes of abuse, self harm, and mental illness– also the gore and the recent Special Chapter was incredibly horrific, with things that made me feel uncomfortable and slightly disgusted… but I love the story, even if it isn’t something I’m commonly into– but the way Antis label KS “disgusting,” is well… in a way, a shaming tactic.

See, that’s the problem though, Antis can’t seem to understand, or simply don’t want to understand or accept that not everything applies to everyone in KS– that each individual see’s things differently, and relates to things differently.
No one ever said every person with BPD would relate to Bum, of even if Bum is “the best,” representation for BPD– No, would is said though is that there are fans of KS who have BPD, and do relate to him on different levels, while of course there are going to be people who don’t relate at all.
Mental illnesses can be experienced differently by each individual, especially since BPD has many faucets to it.
Nobody said that everyone who’s been in an abusive relationship would relate to the depiction (not in a literal sense, hopefully) of Sangwoo and Bum’s relationship– but abuse survivors in the fandom do relate, and find solace in that.
Just because you don’t understand something, or someone, doesn’t mean their personal reasons or experiences are invalid and “wrong.”

I’m so sick of this idea that everything need’s to be absolutely perfect on here, that no mistakes can be made, that people of minorities cannot be depicted in villainous parts… The world is one huge flaw in itself, nothings perfect– and it takes time and patience and understanding towards others to help create positive growth and critical thinking and awareness of real dangers and threats to us as a society, especially in media, which deserves to be criticized, but not to the extent Antis take it.

Hey, don’t apologize! My inbox is always open for anyone.

i really need to vent a lil bit...with the influx of wonder woman & cap fanart, idiots are suddenly yelling bout how diana'd never like steve and wouldn't be friends with him.😂 people really need to take their steve rogers hate to another level huh. imagine ignoring decades of folks saying cute things about cap & wonder woman, and attacking other fans over it, just cuz you bitter and can't stand seeing steve depicted in a positive light. my block button on twitter getting a lotta use lately lol

Feel free to vent away, Anon, I’ve got your back.

Anyone who feels the need to knock a character and/or pairing, that other people are enjoying, or worse (much worse) attack a fan who is a real live person over a character or pairing (emphasis here on the words REAL PERSON), for the sheer purpose of being a spoilsport are rude and immensely insecure, while at the same time, because life exists in a dichotomy, narcissistic (I say narcissistic because most people engaging in this type of behavior are doing so because they view the character who is getting attention as competition to their own faves, and by lashing out they are trying to tell the world that they believe the world must cater to *their* preferences and *their* mindset or they will make the lives of everyone around them hell). They are, frankly, bullies. Bullies who show a worrying degree of intolerance for differing tastes. Moreover, they’ve also failed to grasp the concept of superheroes and the allegories taught to us by heroes like Diana or Steve at the most fundamental level.

Neither Diana Prince nor Steve Rogers would want anyone bullying anyone else on Twitter. Especially over a fictitious character/pairing. The fact that if they real they would disapprove, heavily, is an understatement.

Ignore the bullies. That degree of entitlement is pitiable when you think about it. I mean, how sad must your life be if you get off inflicting pain on others? It’s a pathetic waste of time and energy. They aren’t worth your attention. In fact, blocking them was very, very wise on your part, so good on ya!

Also, they are canonically wrong. :)

The Avengers and the Justice League were once pitted against each other via the Grandmaster and Krona. It was Steve who soon figured out that they were being duped. Once that happened, the two sides got along immensely well. So. Diana Prince has met Steve Rogers and liked him just fine. I mean they didn’t get a lot of time to truly converse with each other. Steve was originally pitted against Bruce and Diana was pitted against Storm, but in the end all of the Justice League had much respect for Steve as he was the one to figure it all out and brainstorm to get everyone out of it and end the games. So, those ill-informed people on Twitter can bite me. ;)

He was fascinated by his children and the way their minds worked. He was an inveterate storyteller, and he kept telling Caroline about–I don’t remember whether it was a blue whale or a white whale, but there was a lovely fictitious character that he’d invented. Caroline would climb on his lap and just ask for this same story to be started again; he could turn it on and off at will.

One day he was sitting on the stern of the Honey Fitz telling her another whale story, and Franklin Roosevelt, Jr. was sitting beside him with his legs crossed and his shoes off, and he was wearing a very dirty pair of sweatsocks. As the President told the story, he said that one of the delicacies the whale liked the most was old, dirty sweatsocks; and he reached over and grabbed one off of Franklin’s foot and threw it over the stern. The President kept on with the story, saying that the only thing the whale liked more was a second sock off and threw it over the stern. Caroline watched with absolute rapt fascination as the socks disappeared into the water, because she thought the whale had them.”  - William Walton

Christians have been putting words into the mouth of bible Jesus…ever since they first made up written stories about a bible Jesus…and put written words in his mouth…

Nothing ever written or spoken about bible Jesus…has ever been independently verified…by non-religious-cultists…

…because fictitious characters just cannot speak for themselves…

""we thought no one would yell at us for using them" is basically what you just said" NO, what was said was, "These people thought they were in a safe place to joke around with friends and people that they could trust until you immature, hateful, snarky, condescending children showed up" I'm multiracial (mainly black and Native American) and a lesbian, and I say faggot and nigga a whole helluva lot. What antis don't seem to understand is that people who are friends wish some one who... (1/2)

is, (i.e: disabled in any way, or is of a certain ethnicity) or ID’s with something (i.e: a lesbian or gay man or just in general Queer) KNOWS the boundaries of said person. My non-black friends know they can’t say nigga around me, but they know they can call me lesbo, fag, etc. because by ALL FUCKING MEANS! I’M GAY, PLEASE ADRESS ME AS SUCH! And I know to some people that’s offensive, but people are aware of the places they can say certain things freely (i.e: the KS server) (2/?) there’s more..
If you have a problem with something, and it’s in your power to avoid it, what do you do? You AVOID it. There is NO reason what so ever ANYONE should be attacking ANYONE that was on that server, now I don’t agree with the Lolicon that was there, it kind of creeped me out, but at the same time, It’s not Illegal. You know what I’m going to do? I’m not going to go to the rooms with the Lolicon pictures. Why? Because it makes me uncomfortable. Makes sense right? RIGHT! (3/?)
The phrase “The more intense the show is, the more mellow the fandom is” really is true in some cases. Most of the people who like KS, not the teenage girls and women who fetishize gay men and abuse, the people who have been abused in some way shape or form. Those people, from what I’ve seen, and how I feel about KS myself, don’t like it because “It’s the hot new yaoi manga that has a really hot possessive gay guy in it.” (3?/?)
No, it’s a very well written piece of fiction that depicts physical, emotional and psychological abuse. It’s something that isn’t real, something that someone who’s gone through these things can relate to without knowing someone whos been through the same thing because I can tell you, I absolutely HATE the idea of someone going through what I went through as a child, and it took me so long to realize that befriending people who have been through what I have is good for both of us… (4/?)
But, that doesn’t apply to everyone. There are plenty of people who don’t want to make friends, they want to work it out themselves, maybe with a professional, and you know what that’s okay. I didn’t want friends who had as much pain as I did up until a year ago. I found solace in the pain and struggles of fictitious characters, I felt like someone knew what I was going through, without having to actually having to experience it, and for someone as empathetic as me,… (5/?)
it was amazing. “Someone” understood me, but no one I knew had to suffer for me to feel understood. That was a much healthier comparison than insinuating that someone who may have been raped or molested as a child is the same thing as an animated girl based off of a culture (the culture it was derived from) where the term “Loli” means cute. You saying that “Loli” is CP is you calling the rape of a child cute,…(5/6)
it’s you totally disregarding the fact that it’s original and proper use is when referring to fashion, and close mindedly sticking to the improper judgment that Loli= CP, which it does not. And honestly, if you actually do some research, the anime characters you classify as children are usually characters that are simply undeveloped women that are 18 and older. Which, by the way, is a thing in Japan. Have you seen some of their women?

Phew! Hope it felt good to get that all out!

I recommend people reading this, it’s a great rant, and really shows how not all individuals think alike despite being parts of certain groups, and they are all valid.
Also they make super great points like, girl,

Yuri on Ice characters vs Real Life Top Skaters

So I watched the first two episodes of Yuri!!! on Ice and if we skating fans already speculated on which skater each character was based on, the show kinda disproved us on some points.

So this is a post mostly aimed at the anime fans who will probably be irremediably dragged into the figure skating fandom because of this anime.

Physically, the characters may look like some skaters but personality wise they can differ massively. After two episodes it’s still early to completely know a character, and there’s much more who are coming, but I think we can already draw some parallels between some skaters and the characters.

One big important point though : I was very glad to discover that no character felt like any actual skaters. The writing staff really created original characters and if some skaters might have served as inspiration, it is very obvious that they are, in some ways, their “own person”.

So let’s start with the comparisons et divergences.

1/ Victor Nikiforov.

Victor was the easiest to spot because there is only one skater who left a very distinctive print in the world of figure skating and is unanimously called “The Legend” whether you like him or not.

Meet Evgeni Plushenko.

Evgeni Plushenko is a russian figure skater, notorious for landing quad-triple combination jumps, for having a very personnal haircut, fast feet, great showmanship and performances skills and one of the biggest charisma on ice you might ever see. He’s now over 30, and pretty much broken everywhere (especially his back) which forced him to withdraw from the single event of the last Olympic in Sochi.

He’s incredibly big in Russia. Like he’s a star. He skated too in the background of the russian participant in the Eurovision few years back (and they won that time). Some said the Sochi Olympics were held thanks to him.

On the ice he can (and could) do pretty much everything. His trademark was his Biellman spiral and spin, which inspired a lot of competiting male skaters to do (Hanyu, Kolyada, Martinez, and a gazillion more) the same as it is a rare move from male skaters but very common for female ones.

Simply put, Plushenko is a Legend if not The Legend of male figure skating. Ask any aspiring skaters which their models are and at one point they will all cite Plushenko as one of them.

Some notable program of his : (you can also just type his name on youtube and watch everything)

The Legendary Program aka Sex Bomb (yes)  watch it so you’ll understand the bath scene. It was his exhibition for the 2000-2001 season where he won his first world title.

His LP program during the team event in Sochi Olympics Games 2014

His LP program during the single men even in Torino Olympics Games 2006 where he finally got his gold medal.

And my personal favourite which was when I discovered him : his 2000-2001 LP at the European Championships

Viktor is the most obvious one, but he is also clearly a “fictitious” character because for now, nobody has made and landed perfectly the crazy program that we saw of him and that Yuri replicated.

In terms of personality, Viktor and Evgeni have this very “hard” underneath personality when it comes to skating and they tell it like it is. Plushenko (also called Plushy) also loves Japan and comes every year to do ice shows and never miss a chance to put on a yukata. Plushy was also known for surprising the audience.

Where they differ :

Plushenko didn’t “retire” because he got stuck artistically (like it’s implied with Viktor) but mostly because after such a long career his body is pretty much broken everywhere, especially his back (he has now metal bars in it). And yet he never officially retired and each new season we wonder if he’s going to try to come back. Plushy is also very supportive of young skaters and love the quads escalation that is happening in the men’s field.

He’s also married with a child, which is a big difference with Viktor :p

Personality wise, I think Viktor is much more outgoing than Evgeni and also much more touchy-feely.

I’ll do the two Yuris in another post

Do you think we'll ever get past the dark age of people getting up in arms over something as harmless as vaguely racy art of fictitious characters or is this a facet of human nature we'll have to get used to.

it’s less getting up in arms over the racy art and more trying to rationally politicize the racy art that really bothers me

like i kinda understand not liking that stuff and having a problem with it but when you start saying stuff like “smug anime wendys is the new symbol of the alt right and facism” i’m not going to respect your opinion on anything ever again because that’s literally the dumbest fucking thing i’ve ever heard in my life and you’re a goddamn moron if you actually believe that

to actually answer your question, we’re just going have to wait 5 years and see how it goes because it’s either going to be so much worse (most likely will happen) or people are going to grow up a bit and realize how crazy aspects of having that way of mind is (will probably not happen)

Ranting is good for the soul

I really don’t understand why people put homosexuals on a pedestal, not all gay people are “heavenly saints that do no wrong”. Who you love or are sexually attracted to has nothing to do with psychosis, sociopathy, or any other mental illness that causes extreme violent and abusive behavior, the KS fandom has nothing to do with the “victimization” of gay people. Gay serial killers have existed, the concept isn’t made up. Ever heard of Jeffery Dahmer? He was gay. He was also real. As for Sang Woo’s attractiveness (because I’ve seen people bitch about this too) Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, Paul John Knowles, and a woman Vera Renczi were ALL attractive they ALL murdered people, there were people who loved these killers, THAT is wrong, a fictitious character? Who in real life has been killed by Norman Bates, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or Light Yagami? The answer is no one. There is nothing wrong with liking a character that just so happens to be a murderer. You don’t chastise people for liking Dexter and he works for law enforcement with a hobby in murder, so why chastise people who like Sang woo?  KS is one of the most realistic, accurate, and well put together pieces of fiction that accurately depicts an abusive relationship. Believe it or not, gay people can be abusive too. Now this… “fiction has been portraying gay characters as deviants for longer than you or I have been alive” I’m not going to deny that, that would be stupid on my part, because it’s true. But at the same time, KS was created during a time when acceptance of homosexuality was only shunned by jack asses, close minded conservatives and people scared of pissing conservatives off. And if anything it takes us off of the pedestal people have wrongfully put us on. It brings awareness to a problem that people seem to not want to believe exists. We are human, we have flaws, and just like anyone else we are just as susceptible (if not more for some of us) to being a raging mass murder. Now, like I said KS has nothing to do with victimizing gays, it shouldn’t hurt anyone, that’s not the point of it, I have depression, anxiety, and PTSD, I was emotionally and psychologically abused, I’M A LESBIAN WITH A HOMOPHOBIC MOTHER… KS hasn’t hurt me in any way, like a lot of people I take refuge in writing of all kinds and genres, that’s why I write now. I know KS isn’t for everyone and this has been said so FUCKING much, but it’s something worth repeating as much as need be, “If you don’t like the Killing Stalking fandom, DON’T INTERACT WITH IT.” No one is by any means obligated to talk to anyone in this fandom. From who I’ve met KS fans are pretty chill dudes, I am. We don’t get pissed off until someone’s high and mighty rightchous ass decides that death threats, rape threats, wishes of bodily and psychological harm are “okay” just because they don’t agree with something that someone else likes. Where is the sense and humanity in that? Anti’s will sit around playing victim, as though someone who was simply defending what they like and explaining why reached through the computer and poked their eye out. I’m not going to lie, SOMETIMES antis are the victim, but in most cases they aren’t. If you don’t like something you stay away from it, keep anything directly associated with it (i.e: characters and specifics to the fandom) out of your mouth, don’t talk about it, don’t look at content about it (out of sight, out of mind), most importantly, have some human decency and treat others like you would want to be treated , the GOLDEN RULE. Honestly, I absolutely despise the thought of cuffed jeans, I think it’s tacky, that doesn’t mean I’m going to tell you to go die just because you like it. It would be rude, I’d a complete bitch, and frankly, I ain’t about that life.

“Okay, smile!”

The sound of the automated click on your iPhone went off, but the boys continued to beam at you. You couldn’t help but grin back at them. You were all happy to be here, to take a break, and do something none of you had ever done before.

Sam took in the surroundings, doing a slow 360 degree turn. “This is, by far, the best idea you’ve had, Y/N.”

You stuffed your phone in your back pocket and curtsied. “Thank you, kind sir.”

Dean smirked at you. “We haven’t been here ten minutes and you’re already getting into princess mode.”

You straightened, gleefully clapping and jumping up and down. “You don’t understand! Belle is here, in the flesh!”

Castiel cocked his head curiously at you. “I thought Belle was a fictitious character in a children’s film.”

Dean slapped him on the shoulder. “I’ll explain later. I think Y/N is going to pee her pants if we don’t start moving.”

As the group began walking, Sam came up behind Dean and whispered, “We’ve got to put some mouse ears on Castiel before this trip is over.”

Dean ushered the angel after you and waved a $20 bill in front of Sam’s face. “Dude. Way ahead of you.”
