A line is a path traced by a moving point. Lines can be used as symbols, contours, to initiate direction and movement, and as imaginary lines directing the viewers’ attention. While lines are usually known as contours and symbols, they are also regularly used in art in order to move the eye throughout the image or to imply movement in static environments.
