I joined online fandom about 10 years ago. I had been a massive Harry Potter fan since the first book back in 97, but I had always been alone about. None of my friends loved those books as much as I did, and I never had anyone to talk to about it. Then I stumbled into online fandom, and suddenly I wasn’t alone anymore. All the close friends I have today, except one, are friends I made via fandom. I met my platonic soulmate, my sister from another mister, here, and I will eternally thankful to Potter fandom for that. My fandom activity peaked with the final Harry Potter book, and after that I slowly lost interest. Canon was over and fandom was getting quiet. For a couple of years, I dabbled in other online fandoms, but I never really got into it.
For many years, my desire for being active in any kind of fandom has been pretty much nonexistent. Hate, trolling, and flamewars just took all the fun out of it.
BUT NOW! My fire has indeed been rekindled, and I have the Warcraft 2016, and especially liontrust, fandom to thank for that. You’re just all so lovely and fun, and I love feeling like a part of a tight knit fandom again.
So, thank you, guys. You are all awesome, and I’m sure we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg that is the brilliance of this little fandom.
