prompt: Phil is a boarding school student, and he has pretty much everything. His dad owns the school, he’s pretty popular, has the best room, gets all the best treatment – he’s the King. Dan is a cleaner/phil’s personal maid there, and he isn’t as lucky. Some students are assholes to Dan, including Phil at first.
you all so so much for your consistent patience with this. College work (and a
hell of a lot of it) has unfortunately become my priority right now what with
university just around the corner and subsequently I haven’t updated it nearly
as regularly as I would have liked to, but you guys have been so supportive and
understanding and I really cannot thank you enough for that. I’ve missed this
and I’ve missed you. Here’s to more regular updates in the future <3
I’m sorry if this seems a lil wooden I haven’t written this in literal months
so it might take a while for me to adjust to the story and the prose again so
pls bear with me)
emo words over let’s fuckin DO this cue emo dan and a Lot of tension and also
dishonesty because phil’s a fucking idiot
warnings; mentions of violence, smoking
Phil’s been on edge all week.
He can’t remember the last time he relaxed.
Every day, every hour right
from the second his eyes flutter open to the sound of his morning alarm, is
spent with a thudding heart and searching eyes. Even when he’s sleeping he’s tense – his dreams have
spiralled into a whirlwind of almost nightmares,
technicolour episodes crashing into the other in colourful sparks and bursts
that end in cold sweats and aching muscles and whisperings from the boy only
centimetres away from him. And it’s stupid because Phil should be the one
comforting him after a bad night (and
he still tries his best nonetheless), but he can’t deny there’s nothing quite
like the feeling of Dan’s gentle lips on his forehead at four a.m., the sound
of his voice whispering reassurances with his arms draped over Phil’s waist
like a protective shield.
He hasn’t seen Liam since he
grabbed at any excuse and all but ran
out of Noah’s room upon his discovery that no, Phil doesn’t still have a tag,
and he’s scared. He’s so fucking scared.
And yeah, it was a very stupid
move to dodge the bullet in the way he did, to fling himself out of the
situation without even stopping to at least
try and explain himself, but he couldn’t help it. He doesn’t think he can
face sitting through another one of Liam’s explosions without crying or running
for cover, and he just can’t look that evil glint in the eye. Not since he saw
the very same one glittering menacingly when Liam looked at Dan, the daggering
stare boring into the other boy. The image is still printed deep in Phil’s
mind, resurfacing during the darkest part of the night.
That’s cowardly. Phil doesn’t
“Are you sure you-“
“Phil,” Dan sighs. “For the
final time, I’m fine.”
“Honestly,” he insists, brown
eyes shining. He’s trying, with one hand, to unwrap the chocolate bar Phil had
insisted upon him. “It was just a bump, that’s all. The paths were really icy
“Why didn’t you tell me
sooner?” Phil sighs, tapping Dan’s bandage patch delicately. It sits just under
So this maybe got sort of wildly away from me. This is entirely the result of watching back-to-back-to-back episodes of Property Brothers in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep.
It was really only meant to be the first paragraph, which was the au idea, but then thoughts and feelings exploded everywhere and I ended up with nearly 2k words of 2am ramblings? And, well, I figured they were written, so I might as well share them as is, because the chances of them being polished into proper fic is pretty remote.
but where is the AU where, after Jack and Kent are back on good terms and
Bitty’s gotten over his grudge, Kent Parson buys a house next to the Property
Brothers house and Bitty finds out and DMs him and is like “!!!! I’m camping
out in your upstairs living room for reasons.”
upstairs living, of course, looks right over the neighbors’ pool.
Damian as a college student: My college had an orientation weekend for all the
freshmen, which is pretty common as far as I’m aware, but it pretty much felt
like summer camp for 400 some freshmen with like 100 upperclassmen running
things and I just couldn’t help thinking of what Damian would have done and
ended up writing this drabble.
everyone, I’m Hannah your O-group leader and I’d like to welcome you all to
your first semester! So what we’re going to do is some get to know you games.
First though how about we just go around the circle and say our name, where we’re
from, and one fun fact about ourselves. So my name’s Hannah, I’m from Coast
City and I spent the summer working as an intern at Ferris Air.”
continues to go around the circle and Damian learns his classmates play an
array of sports and instruments, won various awards, and come from all over the
country. By the time it gets to be his turn he has no suitable fun fact that wouldn’t
compromise his identity.
My name is Damian Wayne, I am from Gotham City and I-” am Robin, was trained to be an assassin since birth, have died and come
back, count metas and a kryptonian as my best friends, I’ve led the teen
titans, have been to space multiple times… “have a small wildlife preserve
at my house. It includes a cow, some horses, dogs, cats, a turkey, and some more
introductions conclude and they move onto the next game, something called the
Great Wind Blows. The whole circle stands and one person enters the middle,
they say something about themselves and whoever else that applies to must run to
another spot in the circle, the last one still moving ends up in the middle
next. -tt- This is ridiculous. What could
any of these people possibly have in common with myself. The first person
is a girl who introduces herself as Joan and then she recites her fact as per
the rules, “The great wind blows if you… have an adopted sibling!” Damian moves
into the center of the circle, slightly in shock. Joan takes his spot and no
one else has moved.
both have an adopted sibling?” Hannah asks kindly, trying to encourage them to
little sister, her name’s Emma. My parents adopted her when she was still a
baby and I was four but I love her to pieces.”
gulps and stares at his classmates, “I have four adopted siblings actually,
three older brothers and an older sister. Um, Richard, Jason, Timothy, and
Cassandra.” Hannah smiles and nods at him and he realizes this is his cue to
continue the game. “I’m Damian and the great wind blows if…” you are a black belt in at least one martial
art, know how to fence, speak more than three languages fluently, regularly
travel across the country… “you spend your summer on a farm or at summer
a few other teens shuffle around and whoever moved must once again explain how
it applies to them. A lot work as summer camp counselors but two others explain
they spend summers on their grandparent’s farm or uncle’s vineyard. “A family
friend is from Smallville, Kansas and his parents’ have myself, their grandson
and a few other friends come stay for parts of the summer on their farm.”
is surprised to find himself moving around the circle to things like “have a
dog”, “have a black belt”, “rides horses”, “watch Disney movie marathons with
friends”, “have inside jokes with your siblings”, “regularly prank another
member of your family”, “one or more of your best friends live in another state”.
was the most surprising was “have met a superhero”, since Hannah thought this
was interesting and practically everyone moved she had them all go around and
say which hero, herself having run into different Green Lanterns during her
life in Coast City. A lot were “Superman” or “the Flash” two excitedly said
they had both met Wonder Woman and Black Canary which prompted a side
conversation that needed to be reeled back in.
got around to Damian who grimaced, scrunched his eyes shut, and began listing
as fast as he could, “Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Oracle, Red Hood, Black Bat,
Batgirl, Red Robin, Abuse, Superman, both Superboys, the Flash, Kid Flash,
Impulse, Arsenal, Green Arrow, Speedy, Black Canary, Catwoman, Huntress, Wonder
Woman, Troia, Wonder Girl, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Miss Martian, Blue
Beetle, Supergirl, Stargirl, Doctor Midnight, Wildcat, Mister Terrific,
Ravager, Tempest, Aquaman, Doctor Fate, Raven, Beast Boy, Starfire, Cyborg and
I’m positive there’s some I’m missing…” He opened his eyes to see the rest of
the group staring at him in shock, mouths slack. He tried reclaiming an air of
nonchalance, “My father funds Batman Inc. Over the years I have met some rather
interesting people thanks to that.”
boy gave a low whistle, “Dude. You have got to tell me what it’s like meeting
Batman.” Damian just smirked as they moved on.
I think for sure. Obviously Oliver’s big question is that he knows a lot more now. I think whether he knew in the back of his head that things were fishy with Sam, I think now Connor has said too much. Oliver has a lot of power now to ruin them all or to help them. And he’s normal. So how is he going to react to this in a way that is normal? It’s refreshing to write that.
Pete Nowalk answers the question: Will Oliver and Connor get back together? (x)
tbh something that annoys me a lot about how Batman is portrayed is that you can do so many interesting things with him visullay, with how he moves with his cape, hides with it and behind it and uses it to glide through the night, and what would work best for that would be a lean physique yet most of the time he’s envisioned as this bulky af dude who just happens to be wearing a cape
this works really well visually
and yet most of the time we get this
like why is he as bulky as Superman?? how is that interesting??? how does that tell us anything about the characters???? it doesn’t, it’s just strict adherence to hypermasculinity and it frustrates me
Batman is fucking sneaky, he hides, he’s quiet, he makes damn sure he has the jump on someone before he attacks - he’s not a bruiser he’s a fucking rogue okay. leaving him behind his cape tells us that much better than giving him an eight pack
like take these pictures
they’re doing something interesting with the cape, but to me the emphasis on his muscles really distracts from what could be something that worked quite well if rendered more simply. the constant emphasis on him being big and muscular detracts from an otherwise interesting visual design.
this isn’t about any one installment being better than another, i’m still not a fan of the body type they chose for him in B:TAS and I do think the Arkham games portrays the cape gliding well, my only point is that I’m so tired of seeing him drawn with hypermasculinity as the main goal instead of with visual storytelling in mind.
