fee rise

Trying to work out some scale, probably would have helped to include a bigger dragon like a ridgeback or a guardian but oh well. Their head would probably be right at or a bit above the lower window there.

Luca, Pod, Springle, Falena, and the newest Pod’s Garden citizen: Fee the Snailith (@snastle’s species), whose name is actually a bit longer but very hard to transcribe. Not only is it in Mith language, it’s a word that Falena made up that mashes together the Mith words for “snail” and “house” (because she liked Snastle so much). Closest approximation is “Feesriffineen” but there’s a kind of chirring in the middle that is hard to duplicate without Mith mouth parts. Fee herself can actually say it perfectly because a Snailith’s natural whispery language is similar to Mith language anyway. Everyone, including Falena, just calls her Fee usually.

bunny-kei  asked:

Message from Snastle, how is Fee doing? Has anyone occupied the cottage, and is she being polite in regards to not chomping the wrong plants? Has she made friends?

No one has moved in permanently to Fee’s cottage, although Falena and the other children of Pod’s Garden play in there all the time. She gets along well with all the kids, and she’s also been making friends with many adults. She and Luca have spent a lot of time together as Fee has been helping him rejuvenate the fallow fields on his property by slowly criss-crossing them, leaving good fertile slime trails everywhere.

She made a few mistakes eating some cultivated plants here and there, but she’s learned to keep her snacking to the fields outside town and she gets lots of cabbages and veggies from friendly gardeners!

Homecoming (chapter 2)

I finally reunited with my computer so I could write chapter 2! Apologies for any grammar/punctuation errors. I’m running on 4 hours of sleep after a long work day, so…

Anyway, I think this thing may end up being more like 5-6 chapters instead of the 3-4 that I initially planned…..oops!

Thanks for all your lovely comments on the first chapter (chapter 1). I don’t really (aka ever) write fiction, mostly just research or poems, so this is all pretty new to me!

Chapter 2: Observer of Humanity

The harsh city streets of Greenwich Village softened as the autumn leaves speckled the asphalt in shades of red and gold. The wind provided an encouraging nudge to the throngs of people moving about with their own individual rhythms to form the city’s unique collective cadence. Mid-rise luxury apartments, renovated 19th century row houses, and NYU’s signature purple flags encircled the downtown neighborhood, inflicting architectural warfare on the ghosts of the Village’s bohemian past. As Riley made her way down MacDougal Street, she passed one such ghost, the cornerside club Cafe Wha?. Home to one of Bob Dylan’s earliest NYC performances, the club still stands today–although rising cover fees and the changing neighborhood landscape have slightly diminished its once bohemian atmosphere.

Young people: The hardest hit by the budget?

Firstly, the increase to the minimum wage to £7.20 an hour next year isn’t actually a living wage as the Living Wage Foundation sets the current living age at £7.85 nationally and £9.15 in London. Secondly, the minimum wage increase will not apply to anyone under the age of 25, adding another tier to the already multi-tiered minimum wage.
Then there is the changes to student maintenance grants which will be replaced with loans for students from families with low incomes. This will create even more debt for graduates. Osborne also stated that tuition fees could rise with inflation above the current £9,000 a year cap if the University has “high quality teaching”.
The final big change for young people is that 18 to 21 year olds will no longer be able to automatically claim housing benefit. The government will take benefits away from one group of adults, treating them differently (a similar problem as there is with the differences in the minimum wage). Britain already has a problem with youth homelessness and taking housing benefit away from 18 to 21 year olds can only make this problem worse.

Young people think that politicians don’t care about them and this budget just gives them even more reason to.

Prince Luke - Part 2

Part 1

You were out in the courtyard under the shade of a large tree. You were waiting for Luke to show up since he said that he needed to go get something. You had been in the palace for almost two weeks and couldn’t be anymore grateful to him or his family.

You remembered that once you had recovered you wanted Luke insisted that you stayed. You really didn’t want to but he said that you needed to since the streets weren’t a safe place for someone who had just woken up from a beating. You accepted and were immediately treated as the prince’s guest and waited on like royalty.

Those two weeks were filled with Luke showing you around the castle and through his future kingdom. He made you feel at home and welcomed something that not many people would do, especially when they were royalty. He was always there for you that made you grow attached to the blond blue eyed prince, so became so attached that you were worried when you weren’t with him.

But due to being beaten, you ended up having trust issues everyone around you, it didn’t matter if they were really kind to you, since in the back of your mind you had this small hint of doubt that made you not fully trust them and made you keep your distance from everyone else.

He first noticed it when Luke decided that Luke decided was that you needed new clothes, since your current clothes here dirty and tattered. He went the royal seamstresses and said that if you could have sundresses made, since it was currently summer in the kingdom, they immediately went to your room wanting to get your measurements, but instead of letting them take your measurement, you immediately panicked when you saw them approach you.

It was at that moment that Luke knew that you were afraid of human contact from strangers, but not of him since you immediately ran into his arms hoping he would keep you safe, like he had promised. He smiled and told them that if they could take a guess at your size and measurements, since they were simple dresses, and to your surprise they fit perfectly, and he would always complement you on how beautiful they were.

He had kept you safe and your hero that you just needed to trust him, especially since he was keeping his promise of keeping you safe, especially when other people approached you. Whenever anyone would come near you, you would always find comfort in Luke, hiding behind him as he held your hand, rubbing small soothing circles on the back of your hand. He genuinely cared for you that in those two weeks or so, he slowly made himself into your heart something that you thought wouldn’t be possible, but he did.

“(Y/N)” you heard and saw the familiar blond prince say as he showed up with a smile.

“Hi Luke”, you said with a shy smile.

You were about to get up till you felt a warm hand on your shoulder keeping you from moving, “don’t get up (Y/N), I’ll sit with you”, he said as he sat himself beside you on the soft grass.

“But your clothes will get dirty”, you said not wanting them to fill with grass stains.

“Its fine (Y/N), I really hate wearing them to start with, and trust me I have more”, he said as he adjusted himself on the grass next to you.

You felt the tips of his fingertips brushing against yours, it was only a brief soft touch but it was enough to make your heart race. Luke pulled his hand back quickly “I’m sorry (Y/N), I didn’t mean to”; he said apologizing for touching you.

Although Luke knew that you didn’t mind him around you, it didn’t stop from being hesitant around you. Luke felt that given what has happened, you might not want anyone to be too close to you… including himself. He didn’t want to scare you in anyway, and promised himself that he wouldn’t ever make you feel uncomfortable and would keep you safe, which he did greatly.

He would keep you safe from himself and was always cautious to not touch you as well. he would usually ask you if you were comfortable and assured you that if you felt bad to tell him. you told him countless times that you were fine and that you weren’t scared of him, but it wasn’t enough to convince him since he would wake up in the middle of the night and find you crying as you dreamt of the time you were hurt in the middle of the forest.

“Its fine Luke”, you smiled part of you wishing that his fingertips would brush against yours again, wanting to feel his hand on yours.

“Your highness”, you heard a man say.

Your instincts kicked in at hearing that voice. Your body went into panic mode as you immediately scooted behind Luke, burying your face into his back, hoping that it would be enough to shield you from whoever was there.

“yes Frederick”, Luke addressed the messenger as one of his hands searched for yours, interlacing his fingers with yours, something that he always did because he knew that you would calm down when you were like this, which was the only time that he touched you.

“Your mother the Queen is asking that you and Miss (Y/N) should join her and your majesty for lunch”, he said with a smile, but to you… it was still uncomfortable.

“ok, can you tell my mom that we will be there in a few minutes, so could you please excuse us?” he said as kindly as he could as he held your hand tighter as he noticed that your breathing was beginning to quicken and your hand was now tense in his.

“Alright your highness, Miss (Y/N) ”, he said as he bowed and walked away.

He immediately turned around and looked at you as he wrapped his arms around you bringing you into a hug, your nose immediately filling with his scent that was slowly calming you down, but not as quickly as you wanted. Your hands went to his shirt, holding it tight as you tried to calm yourself down but you just couldn’t.

“(Y/N) please calm down, it’s just me….Luke”, he said whispering into your ear as he held you tighter, “no one is going to hurt you, I promise”

You were trying to calm your breathing hoping that any second whatever panic that took over your body would just disappear, but it wouldn’t, no matter how hard you tried.

“C-can’t b-breathe”, you managed to wheeze out of your mouth with the lack of fresh air.

“(Y/N), please breathe” he said his blue eyes that normally remind you of the sea were now storming with worry at not knowing how he could help you. He put space between you, enough for you to look up to Luke and see his face showing nothing but concern just for you. “(Y/N), just look at me”, he said as his eyes locked with yours, “just watch me breathe”, he said.

He began to take bigger breaths and exhales, making you visually see what you needed to do. You tried so hard to replicate this action, the action of expanding and relaxing your chest, wanting to control your breathing and being able to do it properly. You could feel Luke’s breath tickle your skin, a warm sensation as his breath reminding you that you needed to do this too. But now staring at his lips, it was making an even greater distraction, because they were so close to yours that you only needed to lean up a bit and they would be pressed against yours.

You were entranced by him but watching him breathe was helping, and slowly you could start to feel your chest move like his, although it still wasn’t enough for you to get a deep enough breath or help you calm down. Luke at least noticed that you were trying, “come on (Y/N), you’re almost there”, he said encouragingly.

He pulled your intertwined hands and placed it firmly over his chest, feeing it rise and fall with each breath that he took, breathing in fresh air something that you found quite hard to do in your state. “Just try again (Y/N), just follow me, and breathe in”, feeling his chest rise as he pressed your hand harder against his chest feeling the strong chest underneath, “and out”, and his chest began to fall and felt his breath hitting your face deeper and fuller. Slowly you could feel air flow into your body and began to relax.

“That’s it (Y/N), just in and out”, he said with a pearly white smile making itself known, which made your heart quicken a bit.

Soon you were breathing properly, but you still kept close to Luke, not wanting to be away from him, and noticing that his face only inches from yours, as both your breaths intermingled. Luke’s azure eyes stared down into yours, but his eyes would sometimes move to your lips staring at them as he lightly licked his, wandering if they were as soft as they looked or even softer. Luke didn’t want to put space between you and him either, his hand still holding yours as he rested it on his chest, and rubbing those familiar soothing circles on it, as he shifted your joined hands closer to the area where his heart was. He began to worry that you would feel it beating quicker than before, but even then it wasn’t enough to stop whatever was happening between the two of you, because just like you… Luke was entranced and mesmerized by you.

He finally couldn’t take it, he needed to know what your lips tasted like, and he needed to know right now. Luke started to lean in, but you didn’t know what to do, do you push him away or do you let him kiss you? His eyes were closing as his lips were only centimeters away from yours, so close that you could feel them almost brushing against yours. Your heart was pounding against your chest, with both nervousness and excitement, that the pounding was sounding in your ears. But as he was going to kiss you, your breath hitched.

And that small hitch brought Luke back to reality.

Luke remembered that you weren’t one to get close to people, that part of you still was afraid of human contact and he nearly kissed you, without asking if you were fine with it. He quickly put space between you two and stood up, without ever looking at you in the eye. Luke felt ashamed of himself, he was raised as a gentleman and he was going to kiss you without even asking if it was fine, he thought that maybe you didn’t push him away because you were scared to even say no, he promised to keep you safe… and that included himself.

“I am so sorry (Y/N)”, he said with a blush on his cheeks, “we should probably go back inside to go eat”, he said nervously, still not looking at you in your eyes.

You nodded and stood up as you both walked back into the castle in silence.

He felt bad about the situation that could have occurred…but what he didn’t know was that you wouldn’t have minded if he did kiss you, since you really wanted him to.

Bitcoin transaction fees

What do you guys think the impact of rising fees will be on Bitcoin’s ongoing viability as a true mainstream ‘everyday’ type currency?

If the cost of transferring $100 bitcoin on Coinbase is $5 and takes 4 hours to do… how is BTC going to maintain market share and/or be the Cryptocurrency of choice against coins designed to be more efficient and much cheaper to transfer?

Not dissing BTC or shilling any other coins here… curious as to what seems to be a very significant weakness for practical adoption…

Thoughts?

My angry vent for the day

If you’ve been following me for a while, you will most likely know that I am a big advocate on positivity, accepting challenges, and seeing the good in every bad situation.

But this is ridiculous.

I am not paying another dime for my “education” here at shitty montclair state university. What a shitty fucking school. They will do anything and jump at any opportunity to try to take more and more money out of your wallet. Even if you don’t go to this school. My friend visits for a night and gets a fucking parking ticket for $60. What a great big first impression. It’s all a big business. College was never this expensive 10-20 years ago. Why do tuition fees keep rising and rising every year. I remember talking to a mother probably around her 40’s who attended Rutgers University and she told me her college tuition was $2,000. How much is it now? 30 fucking thousand dollars? for what?! A piece of fucking paper to tell you, you did it! You payed over $100 on each textbook for every semester, payed even more money for extra bullshit that is unnecessary, woke up every morning and went to all of your classes like the good boy/girl that you are, went through trouble everyday to find parking, learned about things you will never need to know for the rest of your life. You survived college!!! & now you can go put on a suit and tie with your wonderful, flawless, glimmering resume and beg people after people to hire you for a job just so you can pay back all the money you borrowed to get an “education” in the first place. But even if you can’t get the job that we “helped” and “guided” you to get, you still owe use all the $20,000 dollars we lent you.

Student loans are not a sincere gesture. It’s setting you up for debt and enslavement. Slavery still exists… Just in discrete and legal ways. The government wants you underneath your thumb and control you

People don’t realize how many people are out there who earn their degrees and end up working as a barista at Starbucks, a waiter, a babysitter, etc. Reality is so real. & I hate to say it but I have absolute no hope for this country. Everything is run by greed for money and power. Sympathy and kindness are no longer principles native to America.

& the people that go to this school are so fucking immature and ignorant. I just CANNOT stand all the ignorance and stupidity I am surrounded by every single fucking day of my like. “LIKE OMMMGG IT’S THIRSTY THURSSDAYYYYY. DRINKY DRINKY LETS GO GET HAMMERED AND COME BACK TO OUR DORMS AND BE STUPID OBNOXIOUS AND WAKE UP PEOPLE THAT HAVE FRIDAY MORNING CLASSES WHOO HOO!” Everybody here wears the same fucking thing as everyone else, is so desperate to fit in with the rest of society. Everybody conforms and listens to everything society tells you to do and become. There is no more individuality anymore. There is only SHEEPLE. EVERYWHERE!

I’m not trying to offend anybody or shoot down anyone’s dream. Do what you have to do. Maybe your parents can afford to pay for your college tuition. Mine don’t. Maybe you’re dreaming big about becoming a pharmacist or a nurse, etc. Become it. You’re following your passion! That’s great.

I guess my situation is just a lot more complicated and I’m sure there are other people who understand my position. I wish I could just drop out. I would feel so much more relieved that way. Fuck all this pressure. I would rather go to Barnes & Noble everyday and read books that I care about and not have a stupid deadline to get shit done.

Thanks for reading my rant. Have a wonderful day.

7 countries where Americans can study at universities, in English, for free (or almost free)
Finland will finance your free education, but not your coffee break.

Since 1985, U.S. college costs have surged by about 500 percent, and tuition fees keep rising. In Germany, they’ve done the opposite.

The country’s universities have been tuition-free since the beginning of October, when Lower Saxony became the last state to scrap the fees. Tuition rates were always low in Germany, but now the German government fully funds the education of its citizens – and even of foreigners.

Explaining the change, Dorothee Stapelfeldt, a senator in the northern city of Hamburg, said tuition fees “discourage young people who do not have a traditional academic family background from taking up study.  It is a core task of politics to ensure that young women and men can study with a high quality standard free of charge in Germany.”

What might interest potential university students in the United States is that Germany offers some programs in English – and it’s not the only country. Let’s take a look at the surprising – and very cheap – alternatives to pricey American college degrees.

The World’s Highest-Paid DJs: Electronic Cash Kings 2015

Forbes - August 24, 2015

It’s been a year to remember for Calvin Harris. Over the past twelve months, the Scottish DJ earned $66 million, dropped an album that rocketed to the top of the U.S. dance charts and started dating Taylor Swift, in the process dethroning Jay Z and Beyoncé as music’s top-earning couple.

The fact that he’s the world’s top-earning EDM act—tying the record for annual earnings by a DJ, which he set last year—is almost a footnote. Harris is once again the top name on our Electronic Cash Kings list, nearly doubling the total of second-ranked David Guetta, who pulled in $37 million. Not bad for a guy who’s roughly a decade removed from being a supermarket stockboy in a remote town in Scotland.

“The rise of dance music has been astronomical … I happened to be in the right place at the right time,” he told FORBES.

Harris and Guetta are followed on the list by Tiësto. Though the Dutch DJ is one of the older names on the circuit, he played over 100 dates in our scoring period and out-earned twentysomething whippersnappers from Avicii (No. 6, $19 million) to Zedd (No. 8, $17 million).

Skrillex and Steve Aoki round out the top five, tied at $24 million apiece, the highest figure of any American DJs on the list. The former played more than 95 shows during our scoring period while the latter tallied 216 shows, down from 277 gigs last year. Both are among a surprising number of DJs who run their own record labels—OWSLA for Skrillex, Dim Mak for Aoki.

“At the end of the day,” says Aoki, “I want to have as much flexibility as possible on the economic side … When we think about how to maintain and sustain the culture, we ultimately make more money.”

That total has soared in recent years. Over the past 12 months, the top ten DJs took in $274 million, more than double the $116 million total for the top ten in 2012. But the pace is slowing. After a 108% increase from 2012 to 2013, the number grew 11% from 2013 to 2014, and only 2.5% from 2014 to 2015.

Part of the reason: as the market for EDM acts become more saturated, fees aren’t rising at the rate they were a few years ago. And many DJs are engaging in a costly arms race to pack their shows with visual effects to distinguish themselves from their rivals. That means the genre whose practitioners need little more than a USB drive and a pair of CDJs now often put 30-40% of their fees toward production.

“The cost that comes with taking responsibility for your appearance, and for your shows, and for your company … it’s a whole different level,” says Afrojack, who ranks 10th with $16 million in earnings.

Afrojack is one of seven foreign-born DJs among our top twelve—and one of three from the Netherlands—but the highest paid electronic acts aren’t such a diverse group in other ways. There isn’t a single female on the list; only sister duos Nervo and Krewella come close.

“In the techno scene there’s a lot more girls,” said Miriam Nervo in an interview with FORBES last year. “In the big room scene there aren’t as many girls, but there are more and more coming up every year.”

Indeed, there are more up-and-coming DJs of all stripes vying to step into the top tier, including near misses for this list including Alesso, Hardwell, Armin Van Buuren, DJ Snake and the former members of Swedish House Mafia.

They’ll undoubtedly keep trying to find new ways to raise their profiles—but dating the world’s biggest pop star is one option that appears to be off the table for all but one DJ.

As Court Fees Rise, The Poor Are Paying The Price

From the article:

A yearlong NPR investigation found that the costs of the criminal justice system in the United States are paid increasingly by the defendants and offenders. It’s a practice that causes the poor to face harsher treatment than others who commit identical crimes and can afford to pay. Some judges and politicians fear the trend has gone too far.

state-by-state survey conducted by NPR found that defendants are charged for many government services that were once free, including those that are constitutionally required. […]

These fees — which can add up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars — get charged at every step of the system, from the courtroom, to jail, to probation. Defendants and offenders pay for their own arrest warrants, their court-ordered drug and alcohol-abuse treatment and to have their DNA samples collected. They are billed when courts need to modernize their computers. In Washington state, for example, they even get charged a fee for a jury trial — with a 12-person jury costing $250, twice the fee for a six-person jury.

hannahandonlyhannah  asked:

Hey Lucy! I don't know anything about English politics and research doesn't really clear things up, but would you mind telling me what's made the election a disappointment to you/what's wrong with the conservative party? I know my girlfriend voted for them, but she can't really explain why. Who did you want to win the election? x

Hello! I’ll try and summarise as best I can.

In short: the Conservatives are right-wing, well-off, Eton-educated pompous old white men. Their main focus, despite what they may say, is to make life easier for the rich. Under Tory power, rich people get special tax cuts that the rest of us don’t get. (Because rich people need tax cuts, right? It’s basically legalised tax evasion).

They’re privatising everything, and shredding up our welfare. We can say goodbye to public transport, pension plans, our Post Office, and most importantly, the NHS – something millions upon millions of people rely on for basic healthcare which they otherwise could not afford. Including my mother, by the way. Oh, and you can absolutely forget about mental health services. Depressed? Anxious? Suicidal? Put a plaster on it, and good luck. People will die because of this. But don’t forget, the rich are still okay, because they can afford expensive healthcare already! Sucks to be the rest of us, eh? While the rich are lying in their Bupa beds, I hope they think of the kid with cancer who now can’t afford to get treatment because of their utter selfishness.

Tuition fees will now rise and rise and rise. There’s no cap anymore. So poor people can forget about getting their degrees – university is now just a right for the privileged. And of course, Cameron knows all about privileged. He went to Eton, for crying out loud. He probably wears a black tie to bed. (Fun fact that someone pointed out: Cameron, Boris Johnson and many others were in a club at University where to join, you have to make an outrageous statement of your riches – most popularly, burning a £50 note in front of a homeless person. Let that sink in).

He’s making sure that poor people and/or immigrants are demonised. They’re his scapegoat. He’s blaming benefit fraud and illegal immigration and using them as scare tactics to hide the bigger picture, and sadly, people fell for it. But watch. The poor will get poorer, and the rich will get richer. The wage gap will get wider. Poverty will increase. Rights for women, the elderly, the young, the disabled… you can forget it (they’re scrapping the Human Rights Act, you see. Yes, you read that correctly. Apparently some people don’t deserve basic human rights). The arts will become a national running joke. Charities will dwindle. And then, just maybe, people will realise the mistake they made.

It’s selfishness. The country has been divided between the rich and the selfish, and the poor and the helpless. We’ve forgotten our common humanity. It’s now every man for himself.

Oh, and just as some icing on the caviar cake – fox hunting will be legalised again. Because on top of everything, what’s more fun than hunting and killing innocent animals for fun?!

This is the beginning of a dystopian future in which the government will constantly reassure us that everything’s fine while they slowly dismantle the sanity and health of general public behind closed doors.

PSA. Very, very important PSA

GOD HELP US ALL PLEASE IM PRAYING ON MY KNEES HERE

OKAY SO LETS OUTLINE WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE UK RIGHT NOW

As you probably know, it was election day in the UK on the 7th of May. A Conservative government was voted in for the second time, despite only getting 39% of the votes, because we are on an unfair political system which isn’t representative at all. The Conservatives literally exist to widen the gap between the rich and poor. This is their purpose.

This is a run down of some things they have done in the last five years and current plans for the next five years. Yes, it is all in capitals because I am very, very angry. But on the other hand I’ve, and most of my generation along with me, just had any chance of a decent future torn from under my feet just because I wasn’t born sitting on a pile of cash so I think I have a right to be pissed.

THEY ARE GETTING RID OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS ACT. THE ONE WHICH GIVES PEOPLE THE FUCKING RIGHT TO LIFE, FREEDOM FROM TORTURE, SLAVERY AND FORCED LABOUR. THE ONE WHICH GIVES PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL. THE ONE WHICH GIVES YOU A PRIVATE LIFE, FREEDOM OF THOUGHT, BELIEF, EXPRESSION AND RELIGION, THE RIGHT TO MARRY AND START A FAMILY, THE RIGHT TO AN EDUCATION. THE ONE WHICH PROTECTS PEOPLE FROM DISCRIMINATION AND GIVES PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO A DEMOCRATIC VOTE COME ON PEOPLE WHY AM I NOT SEEING MORE PEOPLE WORRIED. WE ARE LOOKING AT THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT TAKING AWAY THE RIGHT TO LIFE

£12 BILLION DUE TO BE CUT FROM WELFARE, WHICH SURPRISE SURPRISE WILL TARGET THOSE WHO ARE MOST VULNERABLE IN SOCIETY. SEE THIS SURPRISED FACE? BECAUSE HAHAHAHA I’M SO FUCKING SURPRISED.

THE TORY PARTY DOUBLED THE DEBT IN JUST FIVE YEARS THEY HAVE BROUGHT THE NATIONAL DEBT UP TO 1.5 TRILLION POUNDS. CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE TO PAY THAT OFF WHEN I CAN BARELY AFFORD TO LIVE DAY TO DAY ALREADY

TUITION FEES DUE TO RISE TO 11K. THIS MEANS THAT RICH PEOPLE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO GO TO UNIVERSITY. ONCE AGAIN THE WORKING CLASS ARE PUT AT A DISADVANTAGE. BUT IT’S OKAY BECAUSE MUMMY AND DADDY CAN PAY FOR THE RICH WHITE BOYS.

MICHAEL GOVE (HELP US ALL NOW) IS JUSTICE CHIEF. THIS IS THE GUY WHO PRETTY MUCH SINGLE-HANDEDLY DESTROYED OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM. GOOGLE HIM. SAVE ME THE SOUL CRUSHING EXPERIENCE.

FIRST ACT IS TO GET RID OF THE HUNTING BAN. NEED I SAY MORE?

THE DEATH TOLL FROM THOSE ALREADY AFFECTED BY THE LAST FIVE YEARS OF CUTS IS RISING. (OH LOOK - ONCE AGAIN, ITS THE WORKING CLASS)

THE NHS HAS BEEN BEING SOLD OFF BIT BY BIT AND THIS IS ONLY GOING TO CONTINUE. WE ARE LITERALLY GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RIGHT TO STAY ALIVE FOR FUCK SAKE.

OUR MEDIA IS BASICALLY CONTROLLED BY RUPERT MURDOCH (who also basically controls the government but we’ll fly over that one)

THERE HAVE BEEN PROTESTS IN LONDON ABOUT THE TORY GOVERNMENT AND THE BBC APPARENTLY DIDN’T NOTICE

ONE MILLION PEOPLE ARE CURRENTLY HAVING TO USE FOOD BANKS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS HAVE SEEN THE CLOSURE OF A RECORD NUMBER OF A+E DEPARTMENTS. SO MORE PRESSURE ON THE REMAINING ONES WHICH HAVE TO CLOSE IN TURN OR BE PRIVATISED BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE TO RUN (YES, BECAUSE CLAIMING EXPENSES FOR YOUR BREAKFAST IS A MUCH BETTER WAY TO SPEND TAXPAYERS MONEY ISN’T IT????)

3.6 MILLION DISABLED PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TARGETED BY THE SPENDING CUTS. I DON’T NEED TO SPELL IT OUT.

BEDROOM TAX

THIS IS FROM A GOVERNMENT WHO CLAIM EXPENSES FOR THEIR FUCKING DUCK PONDS AND TO PAY THE GARDENER.

13 MILLION PEOPLE ARE LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LINE

BANKERS BONUSES HAVE BEEN PROTECTED WITH A 3 BILLION TAX CUT FOR THE TOP 1% OF EARNERS

3.5 MILLION CHILDREN IN THE 6TH RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD ARE LIVING IN POVERTY AND THIS NUMBER IS ONLY GOING TO RISE

WE HAVE HAD FIVE YEARS OF AUSTERITY ALREADY AND THIS IS WHAT THE NEXT FIVE YEARS HAVE BEGUN WITH.

61% OF THE COUNTRY DID NOT WANT THIS.

THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY. THIS IS THE RULE OF THE RICHEST 1%. THIS IS THE RULE OF THE PRIVILEGED MINORITY. THIS IS NOT THE PEOPLE’S RULE.

TL;DR - The UK is going to pot and that is the understatement of the year. Also I really, really hate the Tories.

The Feds vs Ferguson: The report read like one about a shakedown gang rather than about city officials.
Charles Blow

: “Finance Director wrote to the City Manager: ‘Court fees are anticipated to rise about 7.5%. I did ask the Chief if he thought the PD could deliver 10% increase. He indicated they could try.’”

Furthermore, the report made clear that “officer evaluations and promotions depend to an inordinate degree on ‘productivity,’ meaning the number of citations issued.”

The report read like one about a shakedown gang rather than about city officials.

Ferguson needs to reboot.

  • friend: do you ever think about having kids?
  • me: i do. AND THEN I WORRY ABOUT COLLEGE TUITION FEES RISING AND WHAT IF I FAIL AT TEACHING THEM HOW TO TIE THEIR SHOES? SHOES ARE IMPORTANT. MAYBE VELCRO WILL MAKE A FASHION COME-BACK SO THEN THAT WILL BE OKAY. BUT WHO KNOWS. AND LIKE WHAT IF I SCREW UP POTTY TRAINING? LIKE OMG. AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT. WHAT IF I JUST DON'T STIMULATE THEM ENOUGH WITH COLOURS AND BLOCKS???? WHAT THEN??? AND CHOOSING A GOOD DAY CARE???? THE DAY CARE I WENT TO WAS TERRIBLE. SO TERRIBLE. AND LIKE OMG - HIGH SCHOOLS ARE TERRIBLE. I AM SO WORRIED ABOUT THE STATE OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM RIGHT NOW. AND BULLYING. WHAT IF THEY GET HOOKED ON DRUGS???? I AM REALLY BAD AT TALKING ABOUT DRUGS. I ONLY KNOW ABOUT THE ONES FROM TV.

Did you not like the budget?

As a student who will now have to pay uncapped university fees (a sure rise from the $1200 per course I already pay 4x a semester x 8 semesters), and doubled interest rates for my rapidly increasing HECS loan, looking to enter the job hunt which has an ever-rising 12.5% unemployment rate for 18-24 year olds, with less help from the government who is pushing the age up for newstart (a government initiative program that provides financial aid to young people) to 25 years, which requires me to wait out a 6 month application approval period and work for 25 hours each week for the dole, the budget will be hitting me pretty hard.

As a 19 year old about to receive surgery followed by bi-weekly visits to the doctor, surgeon, and physio for the next 9 months (4 of which I will be unable to work), I am no longer able to bulk bill the payments that are not covered by insurance, or use the MediCare system to assist in the total cost, which will now be even more expensive due to the rising price of medical care and medicine with changes made to the Pharmaceuticals Benefit Scheme. It’s a bullet to the knee cap, which is a bummer considering I won’t be able to afford the amputation that I will require.

But a lot of other people are being kicked in the teeth with this budget too: young families, public service workers, low income earners, pensioners, indigenous Australians, the disabled, local councils, foreign aid, public broadcasting, even the fucking environment is getting their share of low blows with the clean energies investment being cut by billions of dollars.

I’m just finding it hard to see reason in pushing Australia’s financial problems onto people who are already struggling enough as it is trying to survive in the most expensive country in the G20.

The best part is that all this completely contradicts the promises Abbott made while running for PM, where he promised that there would be no cuts to health, education, and public broadcasting, and no new taxes.

Well done Tony, kick em while they’re down. Good strategy. Love it. Love. It.

So yeah, I’m pretty fucking bummed about the budget.
