fear less

12 Things Happy People do Differently

Happy people value and choose:

1. Love over Fear: People, who are truly happy, are less fearful and more loving. They perceive every moment, every challenge, and every person as an opportunity to learn more about themselves and the world.

2. Acceptance over Resistance: Happy people know that you can’t really change things by denying and resisting them. So when bad things happen, they don’t fight, get angry and complain. Instead, they ask themselves questions like: What can I learn from this? How can I make this better?

3. Forgiveness over Unforgiveness: Truly happy individuals understand that it’s destructive to hold on to feelings of anger. Instead, they choose to forgive and let go, understanding that (in the end) forgiveness is a gift they give themselves.

4. Trust over Mistrust: They trust themselves … and they have learned to figure out the trustworthy people – and those they should avoid.

5. Meaning over Ambition: Happy people do the things they do because it adds meaning and purpose to their lives. They’re not driven by the need to gain acceptance, praise and approval from others.

6. Challenges over Obstacles: Happy people see problems as challenges, and as opportunities to explore new ways of seeing and doing things. That is, challenges are something that help them to grow.

7. Selflessness over Selfishness: Happy people seek out ways ways to give to others - of themselves, their time, of their money, and their gifts. That is, they’re not self-focused and self-absorbed.

8. Kindness over Harshness: Happy people are gentle and kind with themselves and others. They know the importance and power of self-love, self-forgiveness and self-acceptance - and they freely love, forgive and accept other people, too.

9. Gratitude over Ingratitude: No matter where they are, or who they are with, happy people have the capacity to see beauty where others would only see ugliness – and they’re quick to express their gratitude, as well.

10. Being Present over Being Disengaged: Happy people know how to live in the moment, appreciating what they have and who they are with. They are not constantly being dragged down by the past, or distracted by what could happen (or go wrong) in the future.

11. Positivity over Negativity: Regardless of the circumstances of life, happy people are able to adopt and maintain a positive, and upbeat, attitude and perspective.

12. Taking Responsibility over Blaming: Happy people assume full ownership for their lives. They assume responsibility for their life, choices, decisions, actions, reactions, beliefs and attitudes.

a series of unlikely crossovers:

i.
so I stand by the fire where it’s warm but that doesn’t stop the cold from seeping in. my skin is frozen and cracking. i can’t remember a time when my hands weren’t shaking.

ii.
“your stuff is in my car”
that hurt to hear her say.

iii.
when god turned 50 he put away the Bible and picked up a pack of cigarettes. we’ve been praying to his ashes like they’re going to save us but they only leave our hands melting and empty. he found a way to silence long before we found a way to shout.

iv.
there used to be less fear. i sleep with a nightlight and stuffed animal now. the anxiety claws up my throat still but it helps, i guess, to have something to hold.

v.
“how was he?”
“casual,” she says.

vi.
i think about how I never really learned how to pray, how I never really learned how to confess. my sins hang heavy on my tongue but I keep my mouth closed.
there’s no heaven left anyway. no one is listening.

This happened on my undergrad campus, and I’m saddened, but not shocked.

Please stand with those most affected by this election. Stand with poc, muslims, disabled individuals, members of the LGBT community, Jewish people, women …

If you have any reason at all to fear for your safety, please stay home when possible, until things hopefully settle down, or use the buddy system, or stay on the phone with someone when you have to walk alone.

And those of you able to exist without fear or with less fear? Be that buddy. Be the other end of that phone call. Step in if you can. Keep an eye on the situation if you can’t. Just stand up, please. Don’t give up just yet. And try with everything you have to keep the hope alive.

so i know we’re all worried about the haunted house scene (which is completely fair, i’m worried about it too) but consider this:

the preview shows reina preparing to confess to taki. now, as far as i know, this doesn’t happen in the books until much later, closer to the end. now, they could just be shoving both dumb heterosexual plotlines in our faces, but think about it. reina has a crush on taki, this is an (unfortunately) canon fact, but that’s all it is - a crush. kumiko, the only person who knows about the crush aside from reina herself, doesn’t really take it seriously and really only brings it up when she’s lightly teasing reina, and even reina seems to know that it’s not genuine love (2x05 makes it clear that she values kumiko more than taki, even if she doesn’t know it yet).

meanwhile, we’ve got shuichi (it gives me shudders to actually write his name instead of itchy shoe but this is a serious analysis so) who seems nervous about something in the preview, like he’s about to tell kumiko something. it’s (again, unfortunately) canon that he has a crush on kumiko, and that’ll probably be explored in this episode, but everything that kyoani does is deliberate. now, here’s where it starts to get interesting.

this show frickin’ loves parallels. we had kumiko’s breakdown in 1x12 paralleling reina’s in the very first episode, asuka basically saying the same exact thing in 1x10 and 2x04, and i could go on and on. this episode looks like there’ll be about three or four major plotlines: the cultural festival, shuichi (maybe), reina confessing to taki, and taki’s backstory. so, we’ve got two characters who will probably at least hint at their feelings towards someone. except reina’s crush on taki is always, always not taken seriously (and rightfully so, since he’s like twice her age) and it’s obvious that he doesn’t return her feelings (if i remember correctly when she confesses in the books he just mistakes it for admiration) so putting shuichi’s confession in the very same episode as reina’s implies that it’ll (hopefully) get the same treatment by the narrative - not taken seriously, because it isn’t serious, at all.

or maybe i’m just being stupidly optimistic and they’ll agent carter this thing and do a 180 and the queer fans who supported the show and found validation in it will be left in the dust.

Motivation is so important.  In fact all human action can be seen in terms of movement, and the mover behind all actions is one’s motivation.  If you develop a pure and sincere motivation, if you are motivated by a wish to help on the basis of kindness, compassion, and respect, then you can carry on any kind of work, in any field, and function more effectively with less fear or worry, not being afraid of what others think or whether you ultimately will be successful in reaching your goal.  Even if you fail to achieve your goal, you can feel good about having made the effort.  But with a bad motivation, people can praise you or you can achieve goals, but you still will not be happy.
—  Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness
You knocked me over: but darling; we are, all of us, learning how to become whole in a broken society aren’t we? So…why would I waste such precious time  condemning you for stumbling over a rock, right next to the one I just stumbled over? You know what revolution is to me? Giving the same grace to others that we need from others. All else is vanity. Anything less is fear.
—  Té V. Smith, You Gon’ Just Let Me Off The Hook Like That?
being an angel

being an angel isn’t all warm sunshine days and extending your wings and being happy. it’s also:

-staying up in the early hours of the morning because it’s the only time where you can lay and think about things without the noise of everyday life interrupting

-wishing your wings would go away, even just for a little bit because they’re a reminder of what we’re missing

-the constant noise inside you, but not knowing what to make of it

-the sadness you feel looking up at the sky because you’re not there anymore

-aching for the companionship of your siblings, these humans just don’t feel enough sometimes

-the inner battle whether to follow a religion or not

-the fear of being less of an angel if you don’t follow a religion

-waking up from nightmares and gasping for anything that will help keep you grounded, help keep you here

-looking up at the stars at night and begging them to take you back home

THIS DAY in Nightwish history

Released February 13th, 2015 ‘Élan’ is the first single of their eighth studio album ‘Endless Forms Most Beautiful’.

According to Tuomas "the underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It's important to surrender yourself to the occasional 'free fall' and not to fear the path less travelled by."

This election is closer than it should be. I’m not angry that Trump is ahead on the election, I am afraid. Millions of Americans are feeling the same fear; the fear of living under the presidency of a fascist, the fear of being deported and removed from their families, the fear of having less access to healthcare, the fear of our BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS being taken from us and from those who will be bombed and slaughtered under the Trump presidency. This is a truly frightening situation and even if he doesn’t win, it’s scary to think I live in a country where so many can maintain unwavering faith for a violent racist. Edit: I AM actually angry that he got this far. Mostly scared, but still angry.
