“Ósnotr maðr þykkist allt vita.” An unwise man thinks he knows all.
I find this quote of advice to be very important, especially for those actively seeking knowledge on a daily basis. Yet, it is important for everyone to understand, because the world is far too complex for a single person to know everything.
Next up is one of the most powerful statements I have read so far in a saga, partly because I feel that the author’s own words are reaching out to the reader through Njáll Þorgeirsson in this moment:
As I mentioned but a few short days ago, Passion Pit has been introducing some mighty fine new tunage lately in a rather surreptitious manner through Wishart Group, Michael Angelakos’ new company that provides legal, educational, and healthcare services to fellow artists and musicians. The latest such treat to grace Wishart Group’s Youtube channel is I’m Perfect, a vibrant clattering, bright soaring synthpop bounder that brings me back to 2012 album Gossamer. It’s also my favorite out of the three new tunes we’ve heard this past week (check out the prior two, here, if you missed them). I’m infinitely curious what these surprising treats are leading up to.
Lavender: Name something that relaxes you. Warm bed and a hug.
Polaroid: Post a picture that makes you feel good about yourself. Enjoy this because I’m deleting this picture and replacing it with Ted Chaough’s face in a few hours. Ladies and gentlemen, and distinguished guests, I present to you Ted Chaough’s face:
This pic will never not make me smile.
Vinyl: What is some of your favorite music? The Universal by blur and Sound and Color by Alabama Shakes are, I think, my two favourite songs of all time. Mostly I listen to soundtracks from movies and shows I’ve seen though, because I can think about those scenes again and feel the things I felt.
Incense: List your three favorite scents. woodfire, vanilla, honey
Roots: How do you ground yourself or recharge? I hold off on answering all my messages and read a book, watch a show or do something to zone out for a few hours. Oh, and movies.
Silk Sheets: Any ways you treat or spoil yourself? Now that I have a steady income, I will buy little things for myself. Not like, expensive things, but like, that pack of cute cherry blossom sticky notes? Totally. BB8 sippy cup? Mine.
Paintbrushes: Do you have a creative past-time? Writing and sketching. Though lately, I’ve done little of either.
Scars: Share something difficult you’ve been through. No. :)
Rainstorms: What helps you fall asleep? Music. Also, something to hug.
Bones: Name one strength and one weakness. empathy. guilt.
Teacups: Favorite beverages? Water. Tea. Apple cider in the fall, hot chocolate in the winter.
Sealing Wax: Have you ever received a letter or written one to someone else? Yes. I want to have more pen pals.
Dragons: What makes you feel powerful, what breathes life into you? I don’t know.
Soup: Comfort food? popcorn.
The Moon: What’s your favorite thing to do at night? netflix and chill ;) I’m completely serious. I just binge watch netflix and lay there like the potato i am. And on the rare occasion, an engaging conversation.
Klosh: If you could go back to any three era’s what would they be? 1960s and I only say this because I just finished watching Mad Men and In The Mood For Love. The 1800s sound interesting too, but otherwise, I’m pretty happy with my rights and my internet connection.
Lace: Your favorite things to wear? I really only wear jeans and sweaters. I’m becoming partial to dresses.
Pocketwatch: If you could be immortal or have an extremely long life span what would you pick and why? My first thought was to be immortal, but then I thought maybe I would prefer an extremely long life - and I mean extremely long - just so that I would know there’s an end and it doesn’t last forever. Or, I don’t know, maybe immortality after all. That’d honestly be pretty cool.
Honeybee: Name something positive you have done for yourself or someone else in the last two weeks. For myself: I quit the job I hate. For someone else: a friend’s friend was in the hospital. My friend wouldn’t leave the waiting room even though she hadn’t eaten that day so I brought her lunch.
Typewriter: If you had to come up with ten words to describe your life story so far, what would they be? Passive. Forget. Possibilities. Connect. Quiet. Stories. Observe. Family. Try. Privileged.
Blue Hair Dye: One thing you like about your appearance? Uh, my hair?
Felines: Something that makes you feel better after a hard day? Complaining. Ha. I just need to get it all out and then I’m good.
Poetry: If you have one, name a favorite book or poem. “This Living Hand, Now Warm And Capable” and “When I Have Fears That I May Cease To Be ” by John Keats “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost
My favourite book is always whatever book I am currently reading. Right now: Prince Lestat and The Realms of Atlantis by Anne Rice and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams.
