The Order of Ouroboros is looking to upgrade! We have lived in our Medium Goblet home for over a year now, but we have eyes bigger than our bellies and want something a little more… grand. A little more… accommodating.

We’re looking for a Large Mists or Goblet plot on Balmung! We’re going to try our luck with the 4.1 housing rush, but just wanted also to check to see if anyone would be willing to swap their mansion for a cosier home or maybe a little gil? Or if you plan to nab a Kugane house and you want to give your last plot to a growing FC! With a mansion, we plan to hold more RP events open to the public and home more members with a larger and better roleplay space.

I’m kinda just trying our luck with this post, message me on Tumblr or in-game at Oyuu Dataq if the trade interests you or you plan on moving out of large come 4.1′s housing rush. Thanks for reading!

Why a Targaryen Restoration won’t happen

When I first started watching Game of Thrones, I was a big Daenerys supporter and was fascinated by the Targaryen’s. My dislike for her and her family only started when I really dug deep into Valryia, Aegon’s invasion, and the Targaryen’s after him. I was left with no other choice to feel a strong disliking towards them and to my dismay, the Targaryen’s are the most favored house in the fandom. I’m not saying it’s wrong to like a corrupt house as many of Westerosi houses are corrupt but it’s the lack of study I take issue with Targaryen fans. And I’m confident in this conversation because I was once a Targaryen “loyalist”. I was in that side of the fandom once and I know what they think of the Targs, so this isn’t a bias rant nor is it an assumption based on a few anti texts I saw on tumblr. I was in the Targaryen fandom for three years mind you.

Hybrid House Moodboard: Gryffindor plus Ravenclaw equals Gryffinclaw. A house focused on bravery and intelligence. This hybrid house favors daring intellect and is sometimes known as being the devil’s advocate, they love debate and won’t back down. Their originality also makes them push the envelope and many members might be fearless comics. The bold side of Gryffindor pushes the more introverted Ravenclaw out of the shell, so this is a well balanced hybrid house. They are often interested in exploring new territory. The elements of a Gryffinclaw are fire and air; air feeds fire.

Day Three: Head of Slytherin

I’ve always wondered what Snape was like as Head of House. We don’t get to see much of him around the Slytherins except when Harry is pleasant (and we pretty much know by now that Harry brings out the worst in Snape). They claim that he favorites his own house, but he never awards points to Slytherin at any point through the series, not like McGonagall who gives Gryffindor copious amounts in book five–fifty each for Neville, Ginny, Ron, Hermione, and Harry, and then fifty to Ravenclaw for Luna. And let’s not even talk about Dumbledore’s blatant favoritism toward the Gryffindors.

But we never see Snape award points to Slytherin, which is a feat in itself. For having the tales of playing favorites all the time, the best evidence for this is that he always seems to find the opportunity to rob Gryffindor of points.

Yet, for the most part, the Slytherins seem to respect him as their Head. Moody-Impostor drags Malfoy off to Snape after the ferret incident in book four. When Slughorn was Head, a lot of Slytherins defected to the dark side; the stereotype of “There wasn’t a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn’t in Slytherin” could not have borne itself (though Snape’s memories from the Hogwarts Express indicate that Slytherin was already strongly disliked). And I think when you look at Slughorn’s rather inattentive teaching style, you can find exactly why.

Slughorn did not value all of his snakes. He couldn’t even be bothered to remember his students’ names in the sixth book, only focusing on those who he felt would amount to something. And the young Slytherins needed someone to turn to and rely on. They found that in Voldemort, an incredibly powerful wizard who claimed to have their best interests at heart. Snape was a direct victim of this mindset, and I think that probably would have fed into his style of manning his house.

So what was Snape like above Slytherin house? We can really only headcanon and dream about this, but I like to think that he was a little bit more involved than McGonagall in Gryffindor if only out of sheer necessity from the conflated hostilities directed at his house. He also had the strongest group of prejudiced pureblood students on his hands–and he had to find a way to save face in Death Eater circles while protecting his other house members from their influence.

Was he successful? The only major indicator is in book two–the password to the Slytherin common room, pureblood. But it also raises questions, as we don’t know who sets the password. It seems like in book three that the portrait sets the password, as Sir Cadogan keeps changing it on the Gryffindor students. And it would look incredibly suspicious for a Death Eater to argue it out with a picture on the wall that pureblood wizards are not superior. Snape had a lot of battles to fight. If he even knew about the password (after all, how often do we see McGonagall in the Gryffindor common room?), it’s most probably a battle he chose not to fight.

But look at the turn out. The only Slytherin students under Snape who became Death Eaters were the ones whose parents were Death Eaters–Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. While book six demonstrates many of the Slytherin students to have bad attitudes regarding blood status, they all leave during the Battle of Hogwarts except for the three aforementioned (and I refuse to believe, honestly, that out of the entire Slytherin house, not a single student stayed and fought against Voldemort, especially given that both notable Heads of House were active participants in the war).

Snape did something to spare Slytherin students from the Death Eaters. We don’t know what he did, but for some reason, they turned away from the option that their predecessors used for support. Now, I highly doubt that Snape had Therapy Thursdays where he called all of his troubled students into his office to have group talks about their feelings with a purring cat or well-trained dog for comfort. But support doesn’t necessarily have to come in open and blatant words and gestures.

I don’t think that Snape’s wrongful victimization of the favored Gryffindor house was directed at Gryffindor at all. I think it was directed at Slytherin. Snape, who had never known solidarity in his school years, expressed in the only way he knew how, “I am on your side,” to the students who needed to feel that the most. Those students weren’t the Gryffindors, the most well-loved house, the ones that everyone supported, the brave and foolhardy and popular. They were the Slytherins, already high risk of turning to the dark in a self-fulfilling prophecy.

How many students, following the second war, approached a marble headstone and bowed their heads to the man who had saved them from making the worst mistake of their lives? How many whispered quiet words of, “Thank you”?

Because, all along, someone had their best interests in mind.

anonymous asked:

Say Joanna lives and Tywin dies instead, how does that change things? Would Joanna as regent for the twins go with the double betrothal? Would the twins grow up healthy and happy? Tyrion? Elia?

Note that all of our knowledge about the double betrothal comes from Oberyn who certainly was not privy to whatever correspondence actually happened between Joanna and the Princess of Dorne. The Princess told Oberyn some parts and he filled in the blanks of the story with his observations and deductions, making him not the most accurate source of info. Here’s what Oberyn said about the double betrothal:

“Such a clever dwarf. Elia and I were older, to be sure. Your brother and sister could not have been more than eight or nine. Still, a difference of five or six years is little enough. And there was an empty cabin on our ship, a very nice cabin, such as might be kept for a person of high birth. As if it were intended that we take someone back to Sunspear. A young page, perhaps. Or a companion for Elia. Your lady mother meant to betroth Jaime to my sister, or Cersei to me. Perhaps both.”

Perhaps both. The wording makes it clear that this part is Oberyn’s conclusion and not something his mother explicitly told him. The fact that he was speaking of Joanna’s intentions is an enough tell of how accurate this information is, because Oberyn is not an authority on Joanna Lannister, neither was he privy to what she might or might not wanted.

Personally, I think Oberyn is wrong and that a double betrothal was never in the works. The idea of a double betrothal makes absolutely no sense from a dynastic standpoint, and I refuse to believe that the Joanna simply did not care about dynastic advantages. The political atmosphere of Westeros had been turbulent for years at the time and we’ve seen how the reign of Aegon V and the War of the Ninepenny Kings heavily influenced the political landscape and bred awareness of the power the lords of the realm have and how it could be consolidated into a power bloc against the crown. Joanna was not a political novice; she spent some years at court as lady-in-waiting to then-Princess, later Queen Rhaella and was the trusted confidante of the Hand of the King. She was well aware of the shifting landscape and conscious of the need for alliances, especially as Tywin’s relationship with Aerys was becoming increasingly frazzled. Joanna also lived through the misrule of Lord Tytos and knew how attentive Tywin was to asserting and consolidating the power of House Lannister. In that context, it’s hard to see Joanna planning for a double betrothal to the Martell siblings considering it unnecessarily wastes the potential of a marriage alliance with another powerful family. Besides, Joanna knew Tywin and so she certainly knew how difficult it would be to convince him of one betrothal to the Martells considering Dorne’s significant economic and military disadvantage compared to other more politically powerful families. To think she thought that she could convince him of two does not ring true to me at all. No, I sincerely doubt that a double betrothal was ever in the works, regardless of what Oberyn might think.

But that raises the question of which betrothal Joanna had in mind, which is relevant to the answer of your question. While the order in which Oberyn told Tyrion the betrothals were proposed in OTL (Cersei\Oberyn then Elia\Jaime) could indicate her preference, we simply have no way of knowing if this was the actual order the Princess proposed them in. Indeed Oberyns flipped the order around over the course of the conversation with Tyrion as seen in the above quote. It could be argued that that was the correct order of the suggested betrothals because the rejection of Elia as a bride for Jaime came with the “insult” of offering Tyrion instead, which certainly would make the Princess of Dorne far less prone to suggest another match to the man who just insulted her, whereas the refusal of Oberyn as a husband to Cersei did not come with an insult, despite how brusque Tywin was. But even if that was the correct order, was that the Princess’ own initiative? Or did she and Joanna previously agree on Cersei\Oberyn as the preferable or the more-likely-for-Joanna-to-convince-Tywin-of option? We just don’t know. We have no idea what the extent of Joanna’s involvement in how things played out was or even if she and the Princess agreed on a match rather it being a general idea of betrothing a Lannister to a Martell. Whatever theory anyone has is only conjecture based on minimal information but I fell down the rabbit hole thinking about this so why not make you suffer through it? Under a cut because no one has ever accused me of being brief.
