Princess Oona of Alcyone >> Alcyone is a kingdom by the sea, known for the people’s love of water, their happy attitudes, and their strong belief in fate. Their colors are blue and white. When Princess Oona was born, everyone expected her to have the traditional royal gift of water manipulation. But Oona had a different gift- thread manipulation. Considered odd by her people and weak by her family, Oona is eclectic, dreamy, and quirky. xx
Princess Evangeline of Sterope >> Sterope is the most prosperous kingdom of the Pleiades. The people value romance, beauty, and wealth, as demonstrated in their colors of pink and gold. Princess Evangeline has the traditional Sterope gift of lightning. She’s taken to trying to improve the strained relationship between her kingdom and the kingdom of Celaeno. She makes frequent visits to Celeano, where she uses her determined optimism to try to crack Celaeno’s severe princess. The more she spends time with the princess, the more Evangeline sees the beauty in Celeano- and in their princess. xx
Princess Tate of Celaeno >> Celaeno is the furthest kingdom, farthest north. After a perceived slight from the kingdom of Sterope years ago, Celeano has all but removed itself from the Pleiades. They are known for their strict practicality to survive their deadly winters, with little time for things like romance and beauty. Their colors are black and white. Princess Tate’s gift of iron manipulation mimics her personality- severe and cold. She resists every charm of Princess Evangeline’s, or at least she tries. It’s hard not to feel something when you see a pink princess among a kingdom of black and white. xx
The weekend saw an escalation in the war of words between Washington and Pyongyang, complete with a U.S. show of military might over the waters near North Korea.
On Saturday, U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer bombers and F-15C Eagle fighter escorts flew in international airspace over the waters east of North Korea in response to Pyongyang’s “reckless behavior,” Pentagon spokesperson Dana White said in a statement.
“This is the farthest north of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) any U.S. fighter or bomber aircraft have flown off North Korea’s coast in the 21st century,” White said.
After Eddard Stark’s execution, his children are scattered across Westeros: Robb Stark starts a civil war in his family’s name; Arya, Bran, and Rickon Stark are on the run in the countryside; Sansa Stark is held captive in the Capital, King’s Landing; and his only bastard, Jon, is farthest North in the Night’s Watch.

Eric was exhausted. He hadn’t had much sleep and had emotional turmoil about what he had to do. He had three hours before he had to leave to meet the village idiots. All he wanted to do was curl up with Beth and decompress.
When he walked into his apartment it was too quiet.
“Beth!! Beth where are you?”
His heart started to pound in his chest. He had told her not to leave. He frantically started looking for her or any signs of a struggle. The door handle started to slowly turn. Eric stood stock still with his hand on his gun.
In walked Beth with a piece of chocolate cake and a bowl full of pickles. She stopped and her fork paused mid way to her mouth. She took in Eric’s stature and turned her head in a curious stare.
“What?” she asked carefully.
Eric just chuckled at this and slowly walked towards her.
“Did you get hungry,” he asked with teasing mirth in his voice.
“More like cravings,” she giggled.
Eric just smiled and took the bite of cake that was on her fork. He wanted to be mad she left, but he just couldn’t he mad her. Not right now. She looked too damn cute with a happy glow to her that he had missed so much.
“Why are you smiling like the cat who ate a canary?” her Erudite curiosity showing.
“I just missed you. Thats all,” he smiled.
“Want some of my pickles too,” Beth grinned as Eric took.another bite of her cake.
“I’d much rather give you my pickle,” he whispered seductively in her ear.
Beth turned crimson playfully slapping his arm.
“Behave,” she giggled.
He took her hand and led her to the couch. He picked out her favorite movie and cuddled her tight to his chest. He missed this. A time when life was so much simpler.
It was time to go. He had carried Beth to bed and left a note in case she woke up. He also instructed that if any more cravings struck to call Lynn. She would get her whatever her cravings desired and bring it to her. But to under no circumstances was she to leave.
He road the train to the Candor section in silence. A million thoughts running threw his head. This had to work. There where so many details to work out. But they could do it. As long as tempers and arrogant pride didn’t get in the way.
He jumped off and blended into the shadows as he entered into the Factionless sector just outside of Candor. Another dead zone. Many a top secret meetings and opps had taken place in this area. The Factionless tended to steer clear knowing the would be shot on sight if they stumbled upon the wrong meeting. This one was no different for Eric. His future depended on it.
He quietly made his way to the trap door in a building farthest to the North end of the sector. Climbing down a ladder and lighting the lantern in the corner.
Ten minutes later her heard shuffles as the others made their way down. First it was the Stiff duo, followed by the Pedrad’s. A few minutes later Amar and George joined them.
“Glad to see you all could make it. You are my hand chosen special ops team. There are to objectives. Keep Beth safe, bring down that miserable crazy bitch,” he explain in his authoritative leader tone.
“Um Eric, don’t you work for said crazy bitch? ” Uriah asked a little confused.
“Young leader Eric puts up a hell of an amazing front does he not?” Amar answered.
Eric narrowed his eyes at his former mentor. Well guess he should be honest with them if he expected honesty in return.
“It’s a cover. I’m divergent too. But Jeanine hasn’t quite figured that out yet. I get divergents out, not kill them like everyone thinks. I chose all of you for your divergence and the fact you are a loyal; even if only for Beth and to bring Jeanine down.”
The silence was heavy with anticipation and questions. Eric let it all sink in before he continued.
“Beth is pregnant. Jeanine knows and wants her taken out. I will be faking her death. The do-gooders and Amar will work on getting her out. You brothers will be my eyes and ears in the control room. George, you know your part it never changes.”
They all nodded in silent agreement.
“In exchange for this favor I will be letting you all in on a top secret plan between Dauntless and Erudite. We will be stopping it and taking them down. Now is the time to leave if you can’t or won’t be able to handle any part of this mission.”
Eric surveyed the stoic faces of his new team.
“I’m in,” Tris answered first with no hesitation.
“So are we,” Zeke motioned between himself and Uriah.
“We’re always in Eric. We owe you our lives,” George answered for himself and Amar.
This just left Four. All eyes where on him as his shifted around in thought. He knew he was going too. However could he really trust Eric?
“Tobias. He is on our side son,” Amar said as if reading his mind.
With a huff and a shrug he finally answered.
“I’m in. Don’t make me regret this, ” he said quietly.
“Likewise, ” was Eric’s only word.
“Well let’s get started. We have a woman to protect and an impending war to sabotage.”
With that Eric went into battle strategy with his misfit team.
A Method of Building a Circle for Astrological Magic
This will be the eleventh post in my series on astrological magic. In the last post, I talked about the planetary hours and days, as well as some of the spirits ruling over certain times. That information will all be necessary to understand in order to do all the things I’ll be explaining in this post, which will discuss magical circles and their geometric construction. Be careful when you’re doing these things. You’re always welcome to ask us if you have any questions.
To consecrate your working space before you carry out any magic is one of the most important parts of nearly all forms of ritual magic. There are a great many methods for preparing a circle, and I will readily admit that I believe certain methods are more effective than others, and that I feel as if some methods are just as good as not casting a circle at all (but I won’t get into that right now). For the type of magic I’m talking about now, I like D'Abano’s method of casting a circle, because it reflects planetary rulership, and it also calls upon the power and protection of some relevant ruling spirits for aiding in your work. It’s important to note that there is room for variation in this method if you want to work with a different system of spirits, but the basic geometric features of this type of circle are vital to its function, and to make sure you call on the power and protection of appropriately powerful and benevolent spirits is also essential. If you’d like to substitute something, and you want to double-check something with us, you’re welcome to get our opinion or advice by asking. The traditional ruling spirits and D'Abano’s are here, in the previous post.
The first thing you should do in this method is make a circle which is 9 feet in diameter. Inside it, make a circle with a diameter of 7 feet (meaning its edge will be 1 foot in from the larger one), and be sure it is concentric with the larger one as precisely as possible. Make a third concentric circle with its edge one foot in from the second (meaning it will be 5 feet in diameter). These are the basis for your circle.
Next, you want to find the point in the innermost circle which is farthest north. Draw a straight line from there through the center of the circle until you reach its southern edge. Then do the same from east to west. Now you can make the last circle one foot in from the innermost so far. The lines you already made will cross this circle’s boundaries. Finally, make four pentagrams outside your circle. One at the southeast, one at the southwest, one at the northwest, and one at the northeast. The points of each of these should be directed toward the center of your circle. Now you have most of the geometric basis for your circle of protection, and you can start on writing in the names and symbols which should be included.
Inside the edge of the second circle (if the outermost is the first), you should start at the farthest point east. Beginning there, write the name of the hour you’re working in. Next, write the name of the angel who rules the hour. Following the angel’s name, you will add its sigil (the sigils of these angels are easily found by using Google, and entering something like “sigil of the archangel Raphael,” for example). Next, you will write the names of the ruling angel of the day, as well as its sub-ruling angels or spirits. Now you should write the name of the season. Then, you should write the names of the spirits ruling over that season (and keep them in the order that I have listed them here). After that, you should add the name of the spirit ruling the sign of the season. Next, you should add the names of the Earth, Sun, and Moon according to the season. This completes the writing in the space between the second and third circle.
Inside the edge of the first (outermost) circle, start again at the farthest point east. Here, you will write the name of the aerial king who rules the day you’re working in. At the south, west, and north, you’ll write the names of the aerial spirits under his command (in the same order I gave them to you here, excluding the spirit Flaef on Friday, but adding him in on Wednesday).
Between the third and fourth circles (outside the edge of the innermost circle), there will be four parts divided up by the lines you’ve made. In each of these parts (starting with the southeast, and proceeding clockwise as before), you should draw a cross (not a Christian cross, but one where the lines are of equal length), followed by an appropriate name of God for your purpose, followed by another cross (employing a total of four different names of God).
The last step in building your circle is to write “Alpha” on the eastern part of the innermost circle, allowing the line through the center to divide it, so it appears like “Al|pha” and then to write “Omega” on the western part, allowing it to be divided by the line so it appears like “Om|ega”.
This is all the geometric knowledge you need in order to build an effective circle based on the time. From here, you should proceed to consecrate your circle. I’ll speak about methods of doing that in my next post. I hope this post has been useful to you. Thank you for reading.
Map cartography is the study and practice of making maps.
Here Be Dragons
The phrase refers to dangerous or unexplored territories, referring to the Medieval practice of putting dragons, sea serpents, and other mythological creatures in uncharted areas of maps.
The latin phrase “HC SVNT DRACONES” is also used. The term appeared on the Lenox Globe around the east coast of Asia, and might be related to the Komodo dragons in the Indonesian islands; this suggests that the term may have supposedly been used quite literally at times.
Isle of Demons
It is a legendary land that was believed to exist on Quirpon island, Newfoundland in Canada. It was generally shown as two islands. It began appearing on maps in the beginning of the 16th century, and disappeared in the mid-17th century.
It was believed to have been populated by demons and wild beasts. The demons and wild beasts would torment and attack any ships that passed or anyone that was foolish enough to wander onto the island.
A legend tells of a sea captain’s niece who became pregnant while having an affair with one of the sailors and was left on the island, along with her lover, where they were tormented by demons and evil spirits.
The Isle of Demons first appeared on the map of Johannes Rysch in 1508. It may be a variation of the older legend of the legendary island named Satanazes, meaning “devils” in Portugese; it was normally depicted in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, north of Antillia.
In Classical European literature and maps, it is a region in the far north. The term “ultima Thule” in medieval geographies also denotes any distant place located beyond the “borders of the known world”
“…the most northerly of the Britannic Islands, is farthest north, and that there the circle of the summer tropic is the same as the Arctic Circle.”
The inhabitants or people of Thule are described by Strabo in his Geographica, along with eye witness accounts of Pytheas during the 4th century BC:
…the people (of Thule) live on millet and other herbs, and on fruits and roots; and where there are grain and honey, the people get their beverage, also, from them. As for the grain, he says, since they have no pure sunshine, they pound it out in large storehouses, after first gathering in the ears thither; for the threshing floors become useless because of this lack of sunshine and because of the rains.
Ilha da Queimada Grande
Also known as Snake Island, it is a real island off the coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is home to one of the most venomous snakes in the world, with a reputed “1-5 snakes per square metre”; and the island is 4.6 million square feet in size. Access to the island has been banned by the Brazilian government.
It is home to the Golden Lancehead Viper, with a venom so strong it can kill its prey almost instantly. It is said to be able to melt human flesh.
There are known deaths caused by the snakes of the island. One tale tells of a fisherman who, although unaware of consequences, enters the island to pick bananas. However, he gets bitten by (one of) the snakes. Although he manages to travel back to his boat, he dies due to the snakes’ venom. He was later found in a great pool of blood on the boat deck.
This guy is Fridtjof Nansen. He was a champion skier, crossed Greenland in 49 days, set the Farthest North record of his day whilst floating around in the Arctic for 18 months with Roald Amundsen (the guy who beat Robert falcon Scott to the North Pole in 1911) and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922, having designed the Nansen passport for thousands of stateless refugees from Russia and Armenia. A badass with a heart of gold, if I do say so myself.
What if Jon were raised as a Reed? A fic by me and for @draganchitsa, because if Jon has to be raised anywhere other than Winterfell, it damn well better be Greywater Watch.
Living in a moving castle may seem like strange and complicated way to live, yet Jon could hardly imagine a life any simpler. The crannogmen woke when the sun rose and retired when it set. They spent their days hunting and weaving baskets and used spare material to make everything from clothes to armor. They all broke fast together and supped together as equals. Howland Reed was a lord, yes, but he did not act like other lords. At least, not as Jon thought lords acted like.
Half a decade before he took this trip to the farthest reaches of the north, Andreas Muenchow had his doubts about whether warming temperatures were causing one of the world’s great platforms of ice to melt and fall apart.
He even stood before Congress in 2010 and balked on whether climate change might have caused a mammoth chunk of ice, four times the size of Manhattan, to break off from this floating, 300-square-mile shelf. The University of Delaware oceanographer said he wasn’t sure. He needed more evidence.
But then the Petermann Ice Shelf lost another two Manhattans of ice in 2012, and Muenchow decided to see for himself, launching a project to study the ice shelf intensively.
He was back again in late August, no longer a skeptic. It was hard not to be a believer here at 81 degrees north latitude, where Greenland and Canada very nearly touch. The surface of the bumpy and misshapen ice was covered with pools and puddles, in some cases frozen over but with piercing blue water beneath. Streams carved through the vast shelf, swelling into larger ponds or even small lakes.
Heya loves! My final entry for Fairy Tail Fluff Week! Can also be found on my fanficiton account here.
Day Seven – Serendipity
Sometimes the worst moment of your life, Lucy Heartfilia finds, can lead to the most amazing of discoveries. For Fairy Tail Fluff Week Day 7 - Serendipity. Based on the song “I’m With You” by Avril Lavigne. Modern AU Oneshot. Naluish
I’m standing on a bridge
I’m waiting in the dark
I thought that you’d be here by now
Lucy finally came to a halt from her desperate running on a bridge, panting and steadying herself up against a bus stop station. The ubiquitous brightness of the city reflected off the murky water, bathing her in a rippling light.
Her backpack over her hoodie and down, winter coat ached on her shoulders, and she shrugged it off with a thump to the ground. Lucy had managed to fit in everything she thought she’d need… at least for now. Just her laptop with all her writing, its charger, two changes of clothes, toiletries, canned food, a filled water bottle, a blanket, an old book of fairy tales her mother used to read her, and the little keychains that her mother used to collect. The money Lucy had earned herself that she’d just withdrawn was shoved in a wallet and down the front of her shirt to avoid thievery.
In the back of her mind, she knew, she’d been planning this for a long time.
She hugged herself tightly, still too much in shock of what she’d just done to think. Lucy had actually done it. Actually run away. After all the years of oppression and neglect of her father, she’d finally had the guts to leave.
In the back of her mind, she knew, there was that one, hopeful, weak part that was hoping her dad would follow her. But if he had, he would be here by now.
