Friends old and new, welcome to the first annual Carol Awards! I’ll be your host tonight, along with theculturalvacuum.
This prestigious ceremony is to honor the joy and entertainment that Game of Thrones Season 5 brought us. Each Golden Carol is a symbol of peer recognition for pure, unabashed book snobbery, from 1476 voters.
We don’t like to think that there are “winners” and “losers” at the Carols. Just being nominated is an honor in and of itself. And the stiff competition in most categories is a testament to how nuanced adaptational butchery can be.
But before we begin, let us take a moment to thank showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, without whom this award ceremony would not have been possible:
These men have taught us much about writing, empowerment, and humility. To quote the inspirational Mr. Weiss, “I think that everything starts to go to hell when you start smelling your own farts and complimenting yourself on how great they smell. We’re not going to turn into fart-smellers.”
They’re a true testament to artistic integrity. Thank you, D&D.
And now, without further ado, your 2015 Golden Carol nominees and winners!
