fannish friday

Having passed the 2000+ followers milestone some time ago, I’ve been considering what I could do to a) commemorate the occasion of all you lovely folks hanging around and b) share my love of fandom. Buying stuff is a bit out of the budget at the moment, and most of my writing energy is tied up in stuff I already have on my plate–I don’t want to make promises I can’t keep.

I’ve been toying with the idea of FANNISH FRIDAYS CHEZ TARYSANDE for some time.

I have been fortunate to garner some attention for my work, and I’m grateful. I want to pay it forward. To that end, I’ve created a GOOGLE FORM. On it, I’d like you to tell me who you are (say hi, I’m not scary!). I would also like you to point me at a piece of your own work you love AND a piece of someone else’s work you love. (This can be writing/meta/crafts/art/whatever. Obviously fic is my world, but this is for everyone.) If you’re one of fandom’s fans and don’t have any work of your own to promote–feel free to promote someone else’s. Once a week, I’m going to take a couple of these pieces at random and spread the word about them. Positively. Because I like positivity!

Your name will never be attached, so you don’t have to worry about being shy or feeling anxious about promoting your own work or the work of others… except to me, and a) I won’t tell and b) I love you and am proud of you for creating! I’m in your corner!

A few quick notes:

BE FOLLOWING ME, though we do not have to be mutuals AT ALL. (I have to keep my dash small, but I love interacting with people–you aren’t bugging me! I promise! And this is a way for me to get to know you a bit!)

Please keep it to Dragon Age or Mass Effect (or Miss Fisher, if you’re in that fandom). I like a lot of things, but I’m not deeply invested in very many fandoms, and would like to keep this to ones I’m passionate about.

On the form, I mention a few pairings I’m not into. THIS IS NOT JUDGMENT IF YOU ADORE THEM. Also on that line, I tend not to read m/m (excepting maybe some Dorian-related pairings). I generally prefer ladies to be involved, and I’ve only ever played the games as ladies. I’m willing to dip my toes in the pools of other pairings, but reserve the right to back off if anything squicks me for whatever reason. If this should happen IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S ME <3 Also, if we could not go SUPER explicit, that would be cool. And maybe go easy on WIPs, since unfinished things make me anxious (though if you know it’s going to be finished, that’s a bit of a different story).

Depending on response, this may be a short series of fannish fridays or a very long one. We’ll see!

In case you need it (though don’t rec things here, please use the form so it’s all in one place)?

Okay so horrible gross body-shaming of real person Carrie Fisher aside, here’s what ALSO bothers me about assholes complaining that her character Leia isn’t still in chain-bikini shape in the new movie:

What the fuck do you think a woman who has been waging a war for thirty years would look like? THEY HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR DECADES. It is maybe a slightly stressful existence, especially if you’re raising a child at the same time. No seriously, exactly how much time or headspace should one of the leaders of the rebellion reserve for spa days and her gym regimen and maybe a little space botox or whatever? Because I’m thinking there are about 10,000 other things General Leia Organa should be thinking about at any given time while commanding a war against the remnants of the Empire, and still looking like a teenager ain’t one of them.

My drafts are overflowing with fandom-related stuff

I try not too post too much of it, because i don’t want to overwhelm anyone’s dash, but at the same time if I queue EVERYTHING I’ve saved, it will be a ridiculously long time before some of these posts get reblogged.

So my solution is fannish friday– I’m going to turn on the fandom fire hose on Fridays and just post a bunch of stuff I’ve accumulated over the week. I’ll tag everything with “fannish friday” so if any of my (lovely, few, would-hate-to-lose-ya) followers aren’t into this sort of thing, they can block that tag.

I’m trying a thing! We’ll see if it works.

Today’s fannish Friday is all for the birthday girl, @thoroughlyartsycraftsy. So it’s a bunch of things we like to fangirl over like Captain America and Agent Peggy Carter. Also Chris Evans. Lots and lots of Chris Evans fangirling, not gonna lie folks.

Okay, okay, maybe not quite THAT much. We mainly get worked up over Agent Peggy Carter. And Hamilton. Sometimes Kamala Kahn and other badass Marvel ladies. What I’m trying to say is, we have somewhat diverse and varied fandom interests. And Chris Evans.

Happy birthday, ladyfriend! I’m so glad I get to be ridiculous with you.
