fanfiction for books no one's read

anonymous asked:

"One more chapter" with gajevy?

Yep!

~

“Shrimp, I dunno what’s so damn special about that book, but ya haven’t looked at me in ages,” Gajeel complained, and Levy smirked.

“Jealous of the book, are we?” Levy grinned, and Gajeel flushed softly at her cute smile. As she sat on his lap reading, he couldn’t help reading along with her. The girly novel was not to his tastes, but gave him a few ideas for dates that he could store in his brain for a while.

Gajeel’s stomach grumbled, and he groaned. “You almost done?”

“One more chapter,” she said, and he huffed. Levy’s locks ruffled with his exhale, and she shivered at the hot breath on the back of her neck. Gajeel chuckled roughly, and thought of something.

“Ya know,” he said in her ear, warranting goosebumps up her shoulder, “If we go home now, maybe I’ll take ya on one of those dates that the guy took the girl on.”

Levy’s eyes sparkled as she turned around. “You’d do that, Gajeel?”

“Of course, shrimp,” he said, grabbing her hand as she hopped up. Her grin brought a smile to his own face, and together they walked home.

He didn’t like to admit it, but he was falling for her harder and faster than he’d ever had in his life.

ATTENTION: For anyone who reads fanfiction without leaving feedback

Here’s a few things you should know:

Fanfiction is a gift

Fic writers don’t have to share their works with you. They don’t have to write them at all. They do it and they share it because they’re fans of the show/book/movie etc. just like you, and they want to contribute to everyone’s enjoyment of fandom.

Fanfiction is hard to write

You need a lot of creativity and passion to write fic. You need a ton of motivation and drive to write a complete fic, let alone a good one. Fic authors write for hours and hours and hours, often staying up late into the night just to write. They write through job struggles and personal issues, resorting to phones and tablets when their computers are on the fritz, tapping away on public buses and trains just because they can’t find any other time to write.

Fanfiction is free

Fic writers give away thousands and thousands of words of pure fandom magic, and you get to consume all of it for the wonderful price of nothing. The only reward writers receive for themselves (besides a sense of accomplishment) is the response they get from you, the reader. Some don’t even feel that accomplishment until they see kudos and comments telling them how much their work was enjoyed.

Please.

No matter how much time you have, even just clicking the kudos button takes less than a second. And if you have time to read 5k words at one go, it’s no stretch at all to take a few more seconds to type ‘good job!’ or ‘i loved this!’ in the comment box and hit send.

Still not convinced?

1. IF YOU’RE EMBARRASSED / SHY,

Fic authors LOVE hearing from you. Don’t worry about whether you think you’re going to phrase your response well. That’s literally the last thing we care about. Just knowing that you had a good time with something we made is EVERYTHING to us.

2. IF YOU STILL JUST DON’T SEE THE POINT,

I have a very special challenge for you, my friend.

Write a fic.

Go forth, and write a complete, well-structured, well-characterised fic with organic, stimulating dialogue interwoven into a proper, fully fleshed-out storyline.

Publish your work for all the Internet to see.

And then get back to me.

Gay books you should read!

if you have any questions need help picking something else, want to tell me about a book, really anything send me an ask I’m open 24/7 don’t be shy

Friendly reminder that fanfiction is amazing and if you read that instead of regular books, it isn’t really a bad thing.

Let me break it down for you. Fanfiction writers with pro writing and editing skills and amazingly imaginative minds are popping up everywhere now. I’ve seen fanfics so good I could hardly believe it was just a fanfic. For big fandoms like supernatural, voltron, Sherlock, Dan and Phil (the phandom), etc, I’ve seen tons of good fanfic. For smaller fandoms, very little but for most, there’s at the very least one good fanfic/a good writer who plans to write fanfic for it.

If people shame you for reading fanfic, don’t get discouraged. Fanfic is often times a great source of writing knowledge or education. I’ve learned more from reading fanfic than I have published books (also a lot of published books started out as fanfic anyways)

Also, for some people, reading published books isn’t their thing. Like me for instance; I’ve enjoyed a book before, but I don’t normally pick up a book and start reading it. It’s actually pretty difficult to get me to read books. But, you give me a well written fanfic and I’ll be all over that quicker than you can blink.

My writing skills have improved from reading fanfic. In fact, not only have I seen different writing styles, I’ve seen different writing formats, learned new words, learned about character development, learned more realism in how someone would react to something than I could from any published book, and so much more. Not only that, but it’s hard, if not almost impossible, to find a good book that satisfies all my needs as far as plot/genre, lgbt representation, characters, etc.

So guyyyssss. Just because you read fanfic doesn’t mean you aren’t reading “real stories” or aren’t reading “the correct stories”. If you are a middle school or high school student who has to read books for a grade, yeah. Maybe you won’t get a grade for it, but reading it on the side is okay. If you are an adult or kid who gets made fun of for reading fanfic instead of real books, to hell with the haters. Fanfic is awesome. And the cool part is, it’s easy to find. It’s loaded with good writers. And the best part; it’s uncensored by mainstream media. You don’t work for a company that has you write stuff for the mass when you write fanfic. You write it for fun because you can. Which means you can make it whatever you want (which is honestly probably why I like it better).

So go out there and read your fanfiction. It’s freaking amazing.

I'm happy that I haven't seen posts like yours (about liking "problematic" stuff in fandom) when I was younger, because I'd probably keep reading gross stuff like it's just a fic. Do you really think young people reading, for example, pedophilia ffs aren't influenced and won't project anything to real life or you just lie to yourself to feel better about readng about gross things yourself? Yeah let's let 14 years old read romantic stories about teens and teachers, it's okay ...but anyways :)

Oh, nonnie, you’re barking up the wrong tree here.

First of all, most fanfiction comes with an appropriate age rating, and if there are fourteen year olds visiting a fanfiction archive like AO3 - which, by the way, comes with a general disclaimer in the TOS that informs reader that they are likely to encounter upsetting, offensive, or morally questionable content - or if there are fourteen year olds on tumblr, which is an unmoderated, semi-private blogging platform - it’s not my responsibility to “keep them safe” from anything that isn’t age-appropriate.

Second, I’m really very sorry that you didn’t read my post earlier, so it would have given you a bit of perspective, and made you realize that it’s perfectly okay to read all kinds of fucked-up fiction, as long as you are mature enough and capable of discerning between fiction and reality. And usually, even fourteen year olds are old enough to make that distinction. Or if they aren’t, it’s their parents’ responsibility to make sure they don’t encounter content that isn’t suited for them.

But seriously, nonnie, do you have any idea what kind of stuff I read when I was fourteen years old? Stuff that I could get in every book shop, unsupervised, uncensored, and without content warnings attached to it? Do you realize that published books come without any kind of age restriction? I’m inclined to laugh at you. I was a fourteen year old myself, and back then, no one even tried to put restrictions on me and my reading preferences. Goodness, our house was full of books of every genre and flavor, and no one bothered to even look at what kind of stuff I pulled from the shelf.

But, hey, if you want to start banning fiction, how about you start with the things that have a much bigger audience than niche fanfiction which is posted in fannish spaces like tumblr or at the AO3 (which, by the way, was made with the explicit purpose of hosting all kinds of fanfiction, especially the stuff that was banned elesewhere)?

If you are really so concerned about the influence that fiction has on younger people, I’d start here. That’s a literary classic romanticizing rape and incest among other disgusting things. Also this one, it’s full of violence, propagates rape culture and really toxic masculinity!

And let’s not even talk about contemporary novels! From Nabokov’s Lolita to Irving’s The Hotel New Hampshire, George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire to Effinger’s Marîd Audran series, published fiction is full of problematic stuff, and it’s all easily available for young people!! Shouldn’t you make it your quest to go out there and prevent that from happening?

But not, instead you’re in my askbox, wasting your time.

[…] or you just lie to yourself to feel better about readng about gross things yourself?

Oh, nonnie, I’m sorry, but this is pitiful. You’re talking to an adult, a sane, mentally stable and self-assured person, and your moral condemnation is pretty much meaningless to me. I’m not in any danger of conflating fiction and reality, and my conscience is perfectly clear when it comes to my support of fannish creativity and freedom of expression. :)

The mass media give us industrialized storytelling: teams of professionals produce stories for us at a distance on a regular schedule for profit. Television works this way (watch Fridays at 9:00!), as well as Hollywood movies (Iron Man 3), and even books are increasingly published as regular serials (Harry Potter,  The Hunger Games, Twilight) or with the author as “brand” (one reads an Agatha Christie, a Stephen King, a James Patterson). It’s not that different from making cars or computers or any other industrial product. In mass culture, there are professional producers (writers, actors, directors) and cultural consumers (whose role is the system is to buy and enjoy), but this is the system that fanfiction  flouts: in fandom, the “consumer” is also an artist, who turns the industrial story into something local, idiosyncratic, personal, handmade.

• He will always write for the middle grade age group but he loves it when older people keep reading the books as well

hamilton headcannons - bookstore edition!
  • aaron
    - walks in knowing exactly what he wants
    - only buys one book. john always tries to get him to buy more but aaron insists he already has too many (which isn’t true; he doesn’t have many books because he likes to reread the same ones over and over)
    - he also likes to note lines/sections that he really likes with multi-colored post it notes. the more post its a book has, the more often he rereads it
  • john
    - will go directly to the graphic novel/comic book section
    - ends up on the floor surrounded by comics
    - spends the entire time reading them and ends up buying every one

  • lafayette
    - usually interested in the biography section
    - grabs a handful that seem interesting to him (sometimes he’ll find several biographies on the same person)
    - often shares fun facts abt the people he reads about at random times (“did you know frida kahlo could drink any man under the table?”)
    - finds a corner to read the first few chapters of each one
    - only ends up buying one but writes down the names of the rest so he can come back and buy them
    - if he’s done before everyone else he’ll get a coffee at the café with peggy

    - wanders around the store for a little while
    - makes his way to the kids section
    - ends up sitting on a colorful carpet and reads children’s books to the kids (he spends the entire time back there)
    - his favorites are the quiet noisy book and any Dr. Seuss book
    - he always uses different voices for each character in the book (he gets really into it - the kids love listening to him read and some parents even join in to listen too)
  • alexander
    - spends so much time in the store
    - gets a few books from every genre
    - ends up spending way too much money in one trip
    - his bookshelves are already overflowing yet he promises that he’ll read every book (he won’t)
    - he prefers nonfiction but will sometimes find an amazing fiction book that he rereads over and over

  • eliza
    - looks at the poetry section for a while
    - she prefers really old poetry and spends afternoons deciphering their meaning
    - rarely ends up buying much
    - she already has plenty at home and even has a list of what book to read next (also ang lets eliza borrow from her stock whenever she likes)

Better Books. [Beast! Prince Adam Oneshot].

I’M SUCH TRASH. I’m pairing this with another one of my imagines: Where Adam Tells you his name.

Title: Better Books.
Pairing: Implied! Beast!Prince Adam x Reader.
Words: 1,522.
Rating: K.

After scanning the shelves for what seemed like hours, you had finally found the book you were looking for. Laughing softly in victory, you figured that Adam must have hidden it from you to assure that you didn’t read it again. You could hear his voice inside of your mind, ‘There are better things to read than that.’

You held the book in your hands close to your chest. Rubbing the spine gently, you felt somewhat conscious of the blue eyes lingering on you longingly from across the spacious room. Whether out of nerves or slight curiosity, you let one of your feet dangle from the ladder in the library, swinging around slightly so you could look back at Adam with a tender gaze. He was perched in a chair, sitting in what little sunlight was leaking into the castle from the overcast sky outside. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the sort of warm sunlight that soaked into your skin and made you feel a little more happy and optimistic. It was a dreary sort of sunlight that would bounce off you and create somewhat negative vibes. Fortunately though, you strode around with your own positivity the darkness that seemed to mindlessly drape around the entire residency.

By the time you looked back at him, he tried his best to seem completely invested in the book instead of the back of your head, but you knew better. It was something new between the two of you and has become more and more frequent. The stolen glances, as if it were forbidden to actually look at one another and allow yourself to be caught doing so. You had only stumbled upon the castle a month ago, and between then and now, he has actually warmed up to you surprisingly well. After all, it had only been a week or so since he felt comfortable telling you his name so you didn’t have to stumble around what to call him exactly.

Stepping off the ladder with a small ‘thud’ as you jumped onto the marble floor, you studied the book in your hand and made your way to the seat across from him. Adam noticed of course, watching you from his peripherals as you sauntered your way towards him and sat down.

Adam cleared his throat, setting his book down in his lap. “What’ve you got there?” He inquired, using his head to gesture to the gently worn out book in your hands. If he moved just right in his spot, the dim sunlight coming in through the large windows shined off his horns, somewhat reminding you of how water shimmered in the light.

You seemed a bit shameful when you answered quietly, “Romeo And Juliet.”

“Uhck.” He murmured softly, scrunching his face in mind disgust, “Have you not read that enough? It’s such a tragic story. The romance, the pining, the unforgiving end. That book will be in three pieces by the time you’re done with it. There’s so many books here, why choose the same one over and over?” Adam’s curiosity was legitimate. He never saw the wonder in romance like you seemed to. To him, they all seemed the same and never seemed to have the absolutely ideal ending.

You laughed quietly, “It may be. At least it’s a book that you don’t seem to care about. I’m sure I could set it on fire and you’d probably be very happy that I did.” Shrugging your shoulders, you rubbed the spine once again and answered simply, “It’s a bittersweet tale. I like that it’s not perfect. That’s what makes it enjoyable. Anyway, why does it matter what I read? It’s not like you’re the one reading it.”

He nodded his head in agreement. Thankfully, he wasn’t the one reading it, but he still argued, a bit more innocent and playful this time, “Perhaps, I can show you another story that’s just as good.”

“I dare you to show me one that I’ll love more than this one.” You held the book up and sat it down on the table to your right. “You’ve read everything in here, so I’m sure you can find one.”

Adam stood up, completely towering over you before holding a paw out for you to take. You smiled at him, accepting the help and let him lift you from your seat. “I accept your challenge. I’ve got just the book.” The smile he gave you was the gentlest thing you had encountered and left your heart swimming in an unknown feeling. You wanted nothing more than to see that smile for the rest of your days. Adam hesitated, but eventually let go of your warm hand before striding to the left. You followed closely, biting down on your bottom lip.

What was the feeling in your chest? It was as if someone had lit a thousand candles and let them burn inside of you. You denied any previous thoughts of adoration for Adam, telling yourself that you couldn’t possibly feel anything more than forced friendship for someone who was keeping you here. But at this point, the sensation in your heart was making you question your own words. There was no doubt some sort of attraction between the two of you. The hidden gazes, the gentle strokes of your hand against his arm while you pass him books.

If he let you go, who’s to say you wouldn’t want to willingly stay here with him? You would stay. Even if he didn’t ask, you would stay. But, why?

“Here.” His voice boomed you back to reality. Swallowing softly, you looked up at him with reddened cheeks before letting your gaze drop to the book in his hand. Taking a shaky breath in, you took it from his hands and studied it carefully. It seemed a bit more worn than ‘Romeo and Juliet’, the spine exceedingly bent at the moment, stirring you to ask, “Have you read this a lot?”

“More than most books here. It’s one of the books my mother used to read to me when I was a child.” Adam admitted softly, letting his icy eyes admire your reaction to the book. “It’s the only romance I can actually bear to finish.” He said without thinking. “You see uh— I never finish them, usually. Romances, at least. I leave them off in the ideal place, almost….”

“Afraid of ruining it with the actual ending.” You finished his sentence for him. Adam seemed astonished that you had actually understood. Pressing it to your chest, you sighed and whispered to him, “You’re taking an opportunity away from yourself though. If you never read the ending, you’re not reading it in the way it was intended to be read. Some…” You clutched the book a bit harder, something he noticed as your knuckles were turning while, “Some stories have a happy ending that are so out of sight that you need to keep reading on. You can’t let one bad ending be the reason why you can’t enjoy other endings.”

There was no fighting your words because as Adam let them sink into his mind, he came to realize that you were completely right. He opened his mouth, ready to discourse but couldn’t find anything to say. He couldn’t. He was in such a position that you words were undoubtedly true. Before the curse, his ending was a bad one, though he prolonged it for as long as possible. It took a sharp turn and seemed even worse for a while before you came waltzing into his life, giving the slightest shimmer that perhaps even he could have a happy ending in a story otherwise full of despair, darkness and hate.

“Let me know what you think.” Adam said quietly, looking at the book in your hands. “I hope… you like it.”

Reaching up, you pressed your hand to the right side of his face and completely captivated his attention. The affection was sudden and seemed to leave Adam completely defenseless as you smiled sweetly at him. It was a tender stroke and reminded him of the last time that he had actually been touched so affectionately. It had been years. If it weren’t for the dramatic height difference, he could look at you eye to eye and if given permission, he would have kissed you. Just to see a response, to see that if getting his hopes up wasn’t just a waste now that there were only a few more petals left on the enchanted rose.

Adam was certain he could kiss you regardless, catching you off guard. The nagging voice inside of his head worried that you didn’t want it though, and so he refrained as best he could and tilted his head towards your hand.

You let your hand linger on him for much longer than needed, eventually bringing it from the side of his face to his wide shoulder before walking back to your spot in the small amount of sunlight. It was his time to follow you back. Sitting down, you stared up at him and gave a warm smile, “I’m sure I’ll love it.”

EYYYYY. Thanks for reading! Reblogs and likes are appreciated! :D

Alright

So I’m angry at everything and the world and I’m especially angry

about the fucking fanfic called I Hate Love You.

I was going to do the n///ame thing so it won’t come up in tags but lol sorrynotsorry this kind of needs to be seen so here we go

Let me just come right out and say it: This fanfic is problematic because it deals with abuse, victim-blaming (so much fucking victim blaming), drugging, manipulation, blackmailing, and a whole bunch of other problems.

If you read this fic, and even if you don’t, I really fucking hope you don’t sympathize with Adrien past the first half of the first chapter or whatever.

This version of Adrien doesn’t deserve forgiveness, happiness, a second chance. He doesn’t deserve sympathy. The next thing you’re gonna tell me is that if some man drugged a girl in real life and took suggestive photos to blackmail her with, that he should be forgiven for it if he “does everything he can to get forgiveness.” If you wouldn’t sympathize with someone who does that to your friend or any stranger, then you’d better not fucking sympathize with it in this fic.

“Oh but Megatraven!! Fanfiction isn’t real, sweaty!!!” you say.

Yeah, fanfic isn’t real. But do you know what is? Being affected by a fanfic. If people think what’s happening in this fic is okay, they’re going to wind up romanticizing abuse and won’t see it as a problem when it is. Fanfic can impact a person’s mind and thoughts, just like reading any book can.

There are a lot of younger people in the fandom, people who aren’t even out of high school yet, and when a fic as popular as this victim-blames and makes a sympathizer out of you for a very abusive person, then it’s going to affect the way they think. They’re going to go out in the world (or maybe experience it young, even) and they’re going to get hurt and be expected to forgive someone that hurt them for fear of being blamed for it all.

In this fanfiction, Marinette made one mistake. Just one. She snapped at him. Then she apologized. But he decided to make her life hell.

He made her look bad in front of everyone.

He drove away her friends, or made them (Alya included) try to convince her to be nice to him.

He abused his miraculous’ power to get in good with Marinette (who was crushing on him) and made her trust him.

He stole her first kiss as Adrien, and her second as Chat Noir near immediately after.

He drugged her so that she would stay sleeping, and then proceeded to touch her (without consent!!!) to make sure he got some nice photographs that made it look like she was taking advantage of him and proceeded to blackmail her into being his girlfriend with them.

Nobody heard her cries for help, they just saw them and went “awww cute couple!”

He apparently fell in love with her through all of this. (That’s really fucking unhealthy and disgusting, falling in love with the girl you’re manipulating and abusing and forcing to be with you.)

She found out he was Chat Noir, and was rightfully upset and devastated and hurting. She made him stay away from her, and she told him what he is- a monster who doesn’t deserve to say he loves her or is sorry or full of regret.

TIKKI! OH BOY GUYS, LISTEN TO WHAT TIKKI FUCKING SAID. SHE SAID “Aww he tried to apologize!” BECAUSE APPARENTLY SAYING “SORRY FOR DESTROYING YOU AND ABUSING YOU” MEANS YOU SHOULD FORGIVE HIM. She also tries to defend him. “Maybe he was just confused?” Yeah fucking right.

Anyways, he felt bad, so he told Nino, Alya, and Chloe what he did to her. Nino tries to defend his actions a tiny bit, Alya is furious, and Chloe wants to help him fix the situation.

Tikki lectures Marinette on forgiving him for herself, not for him, but you know???? You don’t have to fucking forgive anybody if you don’t want to. Maybe it works for some people, but it doesn’t work for everyone.

oh then HERE COMES THE BEAUTIFUL (read: HORRIBLE) PART: CHLOE SAYS THEY’LL ONLY BOTH BE HAPPY IF THEY’RE TOGETHER. SORRU BUT IT DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY, CHLO.

MANAGES TO GET ALYA AND NINO ON HER SIDE, TO TRY AND GET MARI AND ADRIEN BACK TOGETHER BECAUSE “They’ll be happier together”

And then

And fucking then

they decide to make Marinette and Adrien meet. Because, you know, Marinette’s unhappiness is because she’s only heartbroken, not because she was drugged, abused, manipulated, used, etc. Because seeing her abuser and talking things out is the only way to solve the problem.

They made her sit down and eat lunch with him or some shit

god there’s so much more and i stopped reading around here because I couldn’t fucking deal anymore, but i’ve watched some live reads of it and also skimmed some of the time and basically

Adrien gives her space and time and when they get together again, because Marinette somehow still loves him, he gets super clingy and over protective and Marinette doesn’t like it at all. She needs more space and time and he tires to give it to her, all the while victim-blaming and guilting her because he’s “done everything [he] can to earn her forgiveness” wHEN HE SHOULD DAMN WELL KNOW HE HASN’T

he ends up giving her his miraculous and leaves france for a few years?? Plagg is a fucking asshole and tells Marinette he gave up his happiness for her own as if he deserves happiness after everything that happened

So anyways

A lot of the readers (if you don’t believe me, read the comments on the fic holy shit) find that Marinette is being a bitch who should forgive Adrien because he’s said sorry and given her a few things

and they find Adrien as a perfect little angel who did some bad things but doesn’t deserve how he’s being treated now because apparently Mari said they was okay but decides she wasn’t ready to completely forgive him yet and that she needs more space.

They think what he’s done for forgiveness and out of ‘’’’love’’’’ means what he did to her doesn’t matter anymore

Let’s also, just for a moment, touch on this very problematic thing:

THE AUTHOR

MADE

A

POLL

AND 67% OF THE PEOPLE WHO TOOK IT

SAID ADRIEN DESERVES FORGIVENESS

the author also says “ After [these polls] please, don’t come shouting to me that you’ve got traumatized because the story is so … “traumatizing”. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.”

IF IT’S PROBLEMATIC AND GROSS AND TERRIBLE NO ONE SHOULD BE READING IT BUT YA KNOW

I GUESS IT’S OKAY BECAUSE YOU HAD SOME POLLS AND PEOPLE CAN’T RECOGNIZE PROBLEMATIC THINGS AS PROBLEMATIC

I don’t fucking care if you personally don’t find this shit problematic, it doesn’t change the fact that it is.

Unfollow me if you sympathize with Adrien in this fic. Unfollow me or talk to me so that I can explain in more detail why he does not deserve sympathy, forgiveness, happiness, or really anything people seem to think he does.

Edit: I know I didn’t put everything I could have into this, but trust that there is a ton more wrong in that story.

A Lazy Day Off With Harry (NSFW)

Or when Harry gets bored while watching tv and finds a way to keep busy…

“(Y/N),” you feel another piece of trail mix hit your cheek and you sigh, making a point to ignore him. “(Y/N)”

It’s your one day off from work this week and you want to make it count by truly relaxing and reading that book that’s been sitting on your bedside table for a month. You’re on page three. A peanut hits your forehead. “Yes, Harold?”

“I’m bored,” he whines, crawling across the massive plush sofa and letting his head fall back into your lap, effectively knocking the book out of your hands, you slide a finger between the pages to hold your place.

“What about the film you were watching?” your hand instinctively fall into his hair, combing through his curls as he adjusts into a more comfortable position in your lap.

Alright I am totally late to the party but I put all of my effort into this piece from start to finish because I fell absolutely head over heels in love with Hang the Fool and I wanted to make something for it. This was originally supposed to be for the zine but I didn’t make it in. But I’m glad I finished it c:

Hang the Fool is one of those books where you kind of forget it’s fanfiction and becomes it’s own story. It doesn’t really take away from canon but in your mind it becomes true and you have to remind yourself that no, no it’s fanfiction this didn’t really happen. Sadly. It’s one of the best fanfics I’ve read in a long time and I’d love to have it printed out as a book one day, so I made a cover for a dream that will never be :’)

Dean dropped into the chair next to Sam, slamming a fresh bottle of beer down in front of him as he chuckled contentedly, watching as a new woman took to the main stage in front of them.

“Y’know” Sam started, eyeing his brother with amusement as he wrapped his fingers around the chilled bottle, “this was not what I was expecting when you said you wanted to go out for my birthday.”

For a few moments, he didn’t respond, watching as the girl on the stage swayed her hips with the music, not really making much use of the pole behind her, then turned and grinned at him. “Why? What were you expecting?” he asked, taking a long draught from his beer.

He’d already stopped looking at him when Sam shrugged. “I figured a bar? A few beers? A few games of pool? Then I figured you’d probably disappear into the night with your catch of the day, call me the following morning to apologise for ditching my ass, except you wouldn’t really regret it cos you never do when you wind up getting laid” he told him, laughing as Dean turned and stared at him in mock offense.

“Why would I do such a thing to my baby brother on his birthday?”

Sam raised his eyebrow, still smiling as he said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, “to get laid. Didn’t I just say that?”

Dean chuckled as he leaned forward, a sly smirk playing on his lips as he nodded in the direction of the bar. “I’m not the one getting laid tonight… she’s been tossing you glances all night, Sammy” he murmured, letting out a bark of laughter as Sam’s head whipped around in the direction he’d indicated, brow furrowed curiously.

His eyes instantly caught the ones of a girl who had chosen that precise moment to look over at him. Her hair was loose, framing her face perfectly; her eyes were bright and shining, reflecting the dim lighting of the room as she stared at him. They bugged slightly when she realised they were staring at one another, before hastily turning back to the patron she had been chatting to before.

Was it his imagination, or were her cheeks now flushed slightly?

Sam huffed slightly, clearing his throat as he looked down at the beer bottle in his hand.

“Nah” he started, taking a swig of his drink before continuing, “she works here Dean. She’s probably just scoping for her next tip,” he told him nonchalantly.

A scoffing sound beside him made him raise his head, and he just caught the tail end of Dean rolling his eyes. “Come on, Sammy! What could be more perfect? The birthday boy and the stripper… a match made for a perfect one night stand.”

Dude, you’re confusing reality with porn again” Sam deadpanned, taking his turn to roll his eyes as he tried to suppress a grin.

“Whatever Sammy, it’s your loss” he crowed, once again reclining in his chair as the dancers once again switched up.

Despite his protests, Sam became hyper aware of the girl’s location in the room for the rest of the night, her presence drawing his attention. Every now and then, he snuck glances of his own, and in his ever-increasing state of inebriation, he couldn’t help but admire how pretty she was.

Hi! Do you know of any drarry fics tht kinda revolve around Harry's abuse or mention it, not just brush it aside like the books? Thank you!!

Hey anon! I don’t read many abused!Harry fics because they’re always heartbreaking to read, resulting in me swimming in a pool of tears. But I have read a few good ones that I’ve come across in the past! Enjoy :)

  • Draco’s Boy - by empathic siren (186k)
A mysterious little boy named Harry moves in next door to Draco Malfoy, and he’s determined to make him his friend and learn all of his secrets. Years later, he’s determined to make Harry more than a friend.
(Harry’s abuse is touched on greatly in this fic. Don’t let the fact that this is a non-magic au get to you, because the writing and plot is superb! And it also has a BAMF Narcissa which is always nice to see)

  • Conquering the Dark - by noeon (24k)
As the tenth anniversary of the War approaches, a difficult case at St Mungo’s forces Harry to seek the assistance of his former enemy and face the past.
(After the war, Harry becomes a Healer and so does Draco. And then they work together to help St Mungo’s newest patient who suffers from child instability and trauma. However, this case triggers Harry’s memories of abuse from the Dursleys)

  • He who Must Not Be Normal - by lettered (40k)
Potter has fame and fortune and posh clothes and all he wants is a simple life. Draco has a flat and a cat and a steady job and all he wants is a complicated life. Which makes you think this story has something exciting like body-swapping, but it doesn’t. Instead it has Indian takeaway and a blue jumper and people wanting a whole lot of what they can’t have, discovering themselves as they discover each other.
(This is such a realistic and gut-wrenching fic! Both Draco and Harry are just so broken in this story)

  • Locked Cupboards - by Lomonaaeren (7k)
Draco didn’t want to be assigned to guard this Dudley Dursley person because Potter was out of the country, and he didn’t want to hear the stories Dursley was so insistent on telling him about Potter’s childhood—at first.
(A hurt/comfort fic that will honestly destroy you while reading it. Draco is so in denial about Harry’s abuse, it was actually kind of frustrating at times, but that’s just proves how in-character he is in this story)

  • Facade - by gaytard6969 (1k)
Draco notices that the unusually silent Harry is covered in bruises, so what happens when the Slytherin confronts Harry about it?
(I’m so glad that this fic had a happy and cute ending because Harry and Draco deserve better)

  • Incurable - by Warholhp (126k)
Harry Potter was not sent to Hogwarts at age 11 as his parents intended. Instead, when an altercation with his uncle turns violent, he is sent to St. Brutus’s Secure Centre for Incurably Criminal Boys. But four years later, he has the opportunity to attend Hogwarts, where he learns to live a life he never thought possible for himself.
(This story had me crying like a five year old. This fic is so full of emotion and drama and will honestly kill you when you read it)
