As the days pass, you begin to feel stranger and stranger about the prince’s arrival in Neverland.
More and more questions flood your head by the hour, like, what the hell kind of kingdom would let their prince get tossed out to sea?
As you walk through the forest, you let the spring breeze gently lift your hair off your shoulders and calm your nerves.
You stop to gaze at a beautiful bush of African violets when a voice behind you makes you jump.
“Lovely day for a walk, isn’t it?”
You spin on your heels to find Prince Phillip standing behind you, holding a different flower in his hands.
“If you think that’s beautiful,” he starts, walking past you, “You should see the gathering of pansies I found farther down the trail. Quite beautiful plant life here, I must say.”
He stops when he’s in front of you, holding out the purple flower to you.
You accept the flower but feel your cheeks burn. Peter would be demented if he knew the prince was out here with you.
The two of you continue to walk down the path together, you nervously twirling the lavender colored pansy in your hands.
“So, I take it you weren’t raised in Neverland like the other boys, were you?” The Prince asks, and the question is so oddly personal and sudden you’re briefly taken aback.
“…No, you’re right.” You reply after a moment. “How did you know that?”
The prince laughs, and you look at him. “Just an observation.”
After a few minutes of silence, the prince speaks up again. “So, where did you grow up?”
It’s been such a long time since you’ve thought about home that the inquiry makes you pause to think about your response. “Storybrooke, Maine. That’s where I was born and raised. But I’ve been calling Neverland home for quite some time.”
The prince just nods, and you can’t help but feel that he’s trying to get at something, but you can’t tell exactly what.
That’s when he starts to hum, and you stop dead in your tracks.
That song. You know that song.
Once he’s noticed you’ve stopped walking, he stops too, turning to face you. “Something the matter?”
You look up at him, your eyes wide and curious. “What are you humming?”
He begins to smile, a hint of knowing in his expression. Taking a step towards you, he replies, “Why, do you recognize it?”
You furrow your eyebrows at him, even more questions filling your brain.
Before you can respond, you hear Felix calling your name from down the path.
“Y/N, Peter would like you to accompany him to-” Felix is saying, but he goes quiet when he sees you with the prince. More specifically, when he sees how close the prince is standing to you, and the flower in your hand.
Felix’s expression instantly transforms with disapproval, and he turns away, heading back in the direction he came from. “Nevermind,” he calls back, “I’ll just inform Peter that you’re…preoccupied.”
You give the prince a brief ,“Excuse me”, and then chase after Felix. Once it’s just the two of you, you start pressing him.
“Felix, that wasn’t what it looked like. I think the prince knows something that he isn’t telling us.” You try to explain, but Peter just cuts you a disbelieving sideways glance.
“Yeah,” he sneers, “The prince isn’t directly telling you he wants to stick his tongue down your throat and disrespect Peter behind his back, but I’d say it’s strongly implied.”
"Felix! It’s not like that!” You exclaim, but Felix just rolls his eyes.
You grab his arm, pulling him back. “Please, Felix. Just don’t say anything to Peter.”
You haven’t ever kept anything from Peter before. The thought of doing so makes you feel uneasy and dirty. But it’s not like anything even happened between you and the prince!
Still, as Felix thinks for a bit before sighing and reluctantly nodding his head, you can’t help but feel a sense of relief.
However, something still pulls at your mind, and you close your eyes, trying your hardest to think.
Just how did you know that song?
Later that night, you’re in Peter’s tent, folding and re-folding a spare blanket sat atop his bed.
Peter comes in and watches your nervous habit with faint amusement.
“Y/N,” he speaks up after a while, startling you, “What are you doing?”
You let out a deep breath, setting down the blanket. “Sorry, I was just, uh, thinking.”
Peter walks over to you and wraps his arms around you from behind. “And just what are you over-thinking about tonight?”
“Peter, it’s…this prince. Something’s not right.”
At the mention of the prince, Peter instantly releases you, alarmed. “What? What about the prince? Did he do something to you? Y/N, if he did something to you, I fucking swear-”
“No!” You hold out your hands, laying them on his chest in an attempt to calm him. “No, Peter, he didn’t do anything to me. It’s just…”
Peter raises his eyebrows expectantly. “It’s just what?”
You chew on your lip, unsure of how to continue on. “Peter, I think…I think he knows me.”
At this, Peter skeptically crosses his arms over his chest, giving you the most questioning look. “What do you mean ‘knows you’?”
You sigh. You knew you wouldn’t be able to explain this right. You decide to come clean.
“Well, we were on a walk today and-”
Peter’s eyes nearly fall out of his head.
“You two were on a what?” He shouts.
His yelling makes you wince. “Peter, calm down! I was walking and then he found me on the path and joined me-”
“So, what,” Peter cuts you off, “The two of you are just taking romantic strolls now?”
“No!” You exclaim. “Peter, just listen to me! Please!”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Peter’s expression is now hurt more than angry, and you feel regret piling up in your stomach.
“Peter, I’m sorry-” You start to plead, but he just goes over to the bed and grabs the pillow from his side.
“You know what, forget it. I’ll find somewhere else to sleep tonight.”
With that, Peter angrily storms out of the tent, leaving you alone, hurt, and most of all: confused.
