Because nothing say’s, ’ I love you,’ like a personalized coffee mug! I have been making these mugs for years now, and I love how easy and inexpensive they are as gifts. These are perfect for your friends, co-workers or even your beloved this upcoming Love Day.

Customize them to your hearts desire by adding your favorite quote, song lyrics, or favorite doodle. I purchased the mugs at The Dollar Store, so yes, a little money can go a long way if you have a large list of gifts you’d like to make.

This technique also works on plates as well, so feel free to let your imagination run wild, happy crafting!

DIY - Floral Headband

I’ve been making and wearing floral headbands for some time now. I wanted to create a smaller version of the extravagant crowns I am accustom to owing and seeing around music festivals. I figured that a smaller headband would be fitting to still wear around during the winter season. What do you guys think?!

Materials:

  • Purple ‘Fall Bushes’ Flowers
  • Headband
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Black Felt

1. Begin my removing the flowers from the bundle. Make sure to leave the stem on which they are attached on, this will be useful when attaching to the headband.

2. Next, grab your headband and begin to insert the flowers into the holes. (I recommend buying a headband similar to the one pictured above. It will make it easier when attaching the flowers into the headband.)

3. Begin to glue down the green stem portion of the flowers down into the headband. Repeat steps 2-3 until you have covered the top area of the headband.

4.Once you have secured your flowers down with hot glue, begin to cut off the green stems that are on the inside of the headband with your pliers.

5. Next, cut out a long strip of your black felt. Make sure it’s wide enough to cover the inside of your headband with some additional room.

6. Next take one end of your felt and glue down, this will create a cleaner look for the inside of the headband.

7. Take the end piece of your felt and begin to glue down onto the inside of your headband. Once you have glued the felt strip and you reached the end, repeat step 6 with that end and glue down.

8. With the additional felt left on the sides, begin to tuck into the top inside of the headband and secure down with glue. The felt will not only provide comfort for your head, but it will allow you to hide the messy glue and stems found on the inside of the headpiece.

Voila, you are done! Enjoy!

Ps. I made a limited amount of purple and red floral headbands for sale, now available for purchase in my shop —> HERE

DIY - Gratitude Jar

Inspired by a Pinterest post, I decided to create this ‘gratitude jar’ as means to practice gratitude on a daily basis. The goal of this jar is to write down one thing you are grateful for every day. After a whole year, you can go back and reflect on all the blessings you encountered. Plus, it’s quite beautiful seeing the jar fill up more and more every day.

So take the challenge and allow yourself to see just how truly blessed you are. Enjoy!

Materials:

  • Jar (large size)
  • Sticky Letters (Michael’s)
  • Colored Car Stock 4.5x6.5in (Target)
  • Scissors

1. Begin by choosing the word you wish you display on your gratitude jar, I choose 'blessings.’

2. Take your sticky letters and begin to spell out and stick on each letter onto the center of your jar.

3. Take a piece of your card stock and fold it twice to create four squares.

4. Cut out your four squares. Repeat with several pieces of card stock. Repeat steps 3-4 every time you run out of blank card stock.

5. Every day, use one card stock square and write down one thing you are grateful for. Once you are finish, proceed to put it inside the jar. Attempt to do this for a full year.

Voila, all done!

DIY COSTUME - Minnie Mouse Inspired Bra Top

I channel my favorite Disney gal for this one, after all Minnie Mouse is, and will always be, a timeless character. To complete the look, just throw on a pair of high waisted black shorts, some cute minnie ears, and a whisker or two on your face. All set! Skies the limit when creating your bra top pieces, specially for EDC. Enjoy!

Materials:

  • Red bra
  • White ‘puffy paint’ or '3D paint.'
  • Black lace
  • Black Ribbon
  • Silver Foam Glittery Paper
  • Assortment of silver jewel rhinestones
  • Hot glue gun and glue.
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

How To:

1) Begin by taking your 3D white puffy paint and drawing circles throughout the front of the bra. This will give it the iconic polka-a-dot Minnie Mouse look. Set aside to dry.

2) Once your 3d paint is dry, begin by cutting strips of black lace, about half an inch wide.

3) Warm up your glue gun and begin gluing down the lace from the inside of your bra. Do this from one end of your bra to the front. Repeat this on both sides.

4) Now take your assortment of rhinestones jewels and begin glueing throughout the area desired. I recommend using your hot glue for the adhesive.

5) Next take a pencil and draw out a circle onto your foam silver glittery paper, cut out, and set aside.

6) Now take two rather large silver rhinestones and set aside. You will be using these for the ears.

7) Take your silver circle and glue down one rhinestone onto the top left and right corner of your circle. Set aside.

8) Now using your black ribbon to create a black bow that will go in the middle front of your bra. Secure it down with hot glue onto the front.

9) Last take your bejeweled Minnie Mouse ears outline and glue down right above your black bow, and ta-da, All done!

DIY| Halloween Costume Roundup (II)

Maleficent, Pineapple, Lisa Frank, and the most fabulous unicorn on this side of the yellow brick road! Nailed it ladies! Thanks for sharing all of your beautiful creations with me, it’s truly made the sleepless nights of editing well worth it!

The reason I love Halloween so much is the simple fact that at least one day of out the year, everyone will tap into their creative juices. It’s amazing seeing my non-creative friends and families make their most sincere effort in coming up with a unique and killer costume.

I do have to admit, I’m super sad Halloween is over, but I’m already preparing for next year’s costume, ridiculous, I know! But I can’t help it! So many new ideas in store for all of you.

So from the bottom of my heart,  thanks again for all the love and support you all have shown me these past couple of weeks.

DIY COSTUME- TEENAGE MUTAN NINJA TURTLES INSPIRED BRA TOP

I created this glittery bra top for a client who will be attending this year’s  Electric Daisy Carnival. I had a blast re-creating the essence of ‘Donatello.’ (Purple Ninja Turtle) What I love about this costume piece, is the fact that it was extremely inexpensive to create, and potentially, a great theme for a group of GF’s attending the festival. Just pair the top with some cute high waisted  shorts, or even a festive tutu and you are all set!

Sorry boys, but girls can be 'Ninja Turtles,’ too! Sexy ones to say the least……Enjoy!

Materials:

  • Green Bra or White Bra
  • Dark Green 'Rit Dye'
  • Vinegar
  • Gold/Green/ and Purple Glitter
  • Fabric Glue
  • A sheet of purple and silver glittery foam paper.
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • A white sheet of paper
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Pen/Sharpie

How to:

1) Begin by dying your bra using your fabric dye liquid or capsules. Follow the full packaging instructions. (If you have a green bra top, disregard this) ** A cup of vinegar is required when dying materials made out of 'nylon,’ which most bras are made from. The vinegar helps with the dying process of your garment. Again, check your dye instructions for more information.

2) After you have washed and dried your bra top, begin to draw out a stencil of a hexagon onto your white sheet of paper. You will be using this stencil to draw throughout the front of the bra. This will create the 'shell like' appearance.

3. Cut out your stencil and using your fabric pen or sharpie and begin to draw out your pattern throughout.

4. Once your desired front pattern is complete, begin to trace it out using your fabric glue. Do this on both sides.

5. Now grab your gold glitter and cover the fabric glue throughout. Allow it to dry for a few minutes.

6. Now begin to fill in the hexagon’s with your fabric glue and proceed to cover throughout with the green glitter. Allow for your green glitter to dry throughout. Set aside.

7. While your bra is drying, take your sheet of glittery purple foam paper and begin to trace a circle onto the surface. Cut the circle out, and set aside.

8. Now, grab your glittery silver foam paper and begin to draw out a ’D.’ Cut out and set aside.

9. Warm up your hot glue gun.

10. Take your hot glue glue and glue the ’D’ onto the surface of the purple glittery circle.

11. Now, take your finished ’D’ and glue it right down the middle of your bra using your hot glue gun.

VOILA! ALL DONE!!!!!!

Depending on which Ninja Turtle you seek to channel, just simple substitute that color into the tutorial. Below are the full list of 'Ninja Turtle’ names with their corresponding color.

  • Leonardo (named after Leonardo Da Vinci) - Blue
  • Donatello (named after Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi) - Purple
  • Michelangelo (named after Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni) - Orange
  • Raphael (named after Raphael Sanzio) - Red

FANCY MADE X YIK’AL KUYUM UC DAVIS - DIY SWEATER RE-VAMP WORKSHOP (Part Two Recap)

How amazing are these sweaters?! Here’s a peek into some of the creations from the attendees of the UC Davis Sweater Workshop portion.

I was beyond blown away by the designs and creativity that went behind some of these re-vamp designs. The whole purpose of the workshop was to give ‘a hands on’ experience on taking an old garment, and 'making it new.’ Since winter is upon us, I figured it would be ideal to teach the UC Davis students fun ways to spruce up their winter fashion.

Again, thank you so much to Yi'Kal Kuyum and the UC Davis campus for allowing me to come teach! Truly an incredible experience.

FANCY MADE X YIK'AL KUYUM UC DAVIS - DIY SWEATER RE-VAMP WORKSHOP (Part One Recap)

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be invited to host a fun sweater revamp workshop at the UC Davis campus alongside the Chicano organization Yik'Al Kuyum. The workshop include a special presentation on how Fancy Made came to be, some in depth knowledge on the DIY community, and a fun fashion show featuring my designs. The emphasis of the fashion show was to visually show the type of things that can be re-created for a fraction of the price compared to that of a department store or online shop. I felt this information was specially crucial for the college student demographic, since unfortunately they tend to face the whole ‘poor college student, living on a budget’ type of lifestyle. Its extremely vital that we begin to create a movement on 'how to be resourceful’ under our economic circumstances.

Overall, the workshop from beginning to end was incredibly. I was extremely humbled by the amount of people who turned out for the event, specially by Da'Reen, one of my fellow Instagram followers. If you’re reading this Da'Reen, you truly made my night, thank you for taking the time to come out and meet me, truly a pleasure.

Also, a HUGE thank you to Yi'Kal Kuyum (The Chicano Latino Holistic Support Program) for the amazing opportunity, specially Jackie who helped run and plan the event with me from start to finish. A huge THANK YOU to all of my models who made my runway portion of the workshop possible! You ladies looked FABULOUS! And lastly, a million thank you’s to all of you lovely ladies who took time to make it! I had an amazing time meeting all of you! You truly are all an amazing group of woman who are going to make a huge impact on this world. Much love and best of luck with your studies!

XOXO - Drea

PS. More pictures from the Sweater Revamp portion to come! Stay tuned.
