Gregory House MD

SUGGESTED BY: ANNONYMOUS

MBTI TYPE: INTJ

Dominant function: Introverted intuition, Ni

House’s dominant function is introverted, meaning he takes a lot of time perceiving in his own ways and coming to his own conclusions. He is the doctor who doesn’t follow the rules of book, preferring to work in a very distinctive way. He likes to be unconventional and he is quite withdrawn from the world. House has very keen perceptions about how the world works, making a lot of broad and insightful comments on the world, that go beyond medicine, like, for example, ‘’Everybody lies’’ or ‘’It’s never lupus’’ or ‘’The first diagnose is always wrong’’. On the other hand, Doctor House has huge success in his diagnoses because he can put together contradictory and disperse evidence, forming an insight that is correct.

Auxiliary function: Extroverted thinking, Te

House has a tendency to use people around him as guiders to his own logic, making him using extroverted thinking. He craves for arguments between the people around him, which helps him think in his own way. He likes to have people who contradict him, in order to come to his correct diagnosis. He is an analyzer and makes his decisions based on logic and concrete facts, making him competency-driven. He also makes detailed plans and he quick witted.

Tertiary function: Introverted feeling, Fi

This function has a little influence on House. It’s clear that House has a strong code of personal values, like his decision of never meeting his patients, preferring to work isolated, etc. He tends to put his feelings aside to make the job done. He doesn’t extrovert his feeling function, meaning: he doesn’t care for social niceties and for being pleasant to others, usually saying what goes to his mind, which usually makes him troubles.

Inferior function: Extroverted sensing, Se

House lives in the present moment. He isn’t particularly nostalgic; neither has he used his experience in order to make his leaps in his thinking process. He focuses on data on the present moment, pulling out contradictory evidence in order to come to his own truth. House, on the other hand, has a tendency to indulge in his pleasures and sensing side, abusing of alcohol, drugs (to cope with the physical pain he is stuck in) and sensual pleasure.

HOGWARTS HOUSE: RAVENCLAW

House Works so he can join the pieces of the puzzle. He isn’t worried about fame or prestige, or even power. He likes to be in his mind, analyzing and dissecting information via intuition and he also isn’t very caring in his nature.

Historical MBTI Figures

Because I’m a history major, I thought it would be fun to put together real world examples of every type.  All of these figures are awesome, just like all of the types are awesome.  I apologize that the list is very Western-centric; my focus is American history so I probably don’t know as much about other global figures as I should, but I would love to hear any suggestions people have!! I also tried to choose people who would be fairly recognizable.  Enjoy!

myers-briggs personality types

↳ INTJ (The Mastermind)

INTJs are one of the rarest of the sixteen personality types, and account for approximately 1-2% of the population.

Hallmarks of the INTJ include independence of thought and a desire for efficiency. They work best when given autonomy and creative freedom. They harbor an innate desire to express themselves by conceptualizing their own intellectual designs. They have a talent for analyzing and formulating complex theories. INTJs are generally well-suited for occupations within academia, research, consulting, management, science, engineering, and law. They are often acutely aware of their own knowledge and abilities—as well as their limitations and what they don't know (a quality that tends to distinguish them from INTPs). INTJs thus develop a strong confidence in their ability and talents, making them natural leaders.

In forming relationships, INTJs tend to seek out others with similar character traits and ideologies. Agreement on theoretical concepts is an important aspect of their relationships. By nature INTJs can be demanding in their expectations, and approach relationships in a rational manner. As a result, INTJs may not always respond to a spontaneous infatuation but wait for a mate who better fits their set criteria. They tend to be stable, reliable, and dedicated. Harmony in relationships and home life tends to be extremely important to them. They generally withhold strong emotion and do not like to waste time with what they consider irrational social rituals. This may cause non-INTJs to perceive them as distant and reserved; nevertheless, INTJs are usually very loyal partners who are prepared to commit smallstantial energy and time into a relationship to make it work.

Trivia:

  • the third rarest type in the population; the most rare among women
  • among types least likely to suffer from heart disease and hypertension
  • least likely of all types to believe in a higher spiritual power
  • one of two types with the highest college GPA
  • among types with the highest income
  • of all types, least likely to state that they value home/family, financial security, relationships & friendships, and community service
  • Over represented among MBA students and female small business owners
  • Commonly found in scientific or technical fields, computer occupations, and legal professions
  • famous intjs: hillary clinton, isaac newton, dwight eisenhower, and lewis carroll

and then me, who didn’t wake up until 1pm simply because there was no breakfast food in the house

“Often times I find myself in a state of contradiction. On one hand I feel very solemn and serious, but on the other, very jovial and mischievous. It confused me because I assumed that being an INTJ meant being reserved and emotionless. Now I realize it only means having a greater deal of control over your emotions than most people. I also realized that some of the most famous fictional INTJs are very mischievous (such as Rumplestiltskin, Loki, and even Sherlock). Therefore I finally understand what I am: I am a Trickster. Always and forever a Trickster.”
