Interested in learning a bit more about our World Cup champs, U of Texas? Jay Hubert put together a phenomenal mini-doc featuring the top team during their 2013 Fall season. Check it out and pass it along!

“Texas Quidditch, the (TWO-TIME) world champion varsity quidditch team of the University of Texas, won Quidditch World Cup VI in April 2013. However, they lost almost half of their team to graduation the following month, and faced a number of hurdles in rebuilding their team the following semester. Led by returning co-captain Augustine Monroe, Texas Quidditch reemerged with new faces and a new personality in Fall 2013, but with the same commitment to winning and hitting opponents hard that made them an unstoppable force at the previous World Cup. This film documents the ups and downs of their Fall 2013 season, and lends proof to the argument that quidditch is a real sport for real athletes.”

Calling all Nightvale fans!

So do you like Nightvale for the creepy atmosphere or for it’s very racially diverse cast of characters?

Then I must turn your attention to the new American supernatural drama “Sleepy Hollow"

Based on the short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” the show follows revolutionary war era solider Ichabod Crane (played by Tom Milson) and modern day police woman Lt. Abigail Mills (played by Nicole Beharie) as they try to stop a murderous headless horseman from beginning the end of days. The show keeps a creepy atmosphere and has a monster of the week thing going on for the first season.

But even more important is the show’s diverse cast of characters. One of the two main leads is an African American woman and she is the most (and best) fleshed out character of the show.

Let me repeat: A WOMAN OF COLOR IS THE LEAD IN A SUPERNATURAL/POLICE DRAMA.

And it doesn’t stop there. You have Orlando Jones playing Frank Irving the police chief of Sleepy Hollow, Lyndie Greenwood playing Jenifer Mills Abbie’s sister ,John Cho playing police officer Andy Brooks, and Nicholas Gonzalez playing dective Luke Morales Abbie’s Latino ex boyfriend. The show doesn’t try to have just one PoC as a need to fill in some unspoken Hollywood bloodstone ritual about quotas. It makes the show as diverse as the world around them.

Not to mention that the cast is a bunch of loveable dorks which I know is something Nightvale fans can appreciate. I mean look at these guys

just presh

But you may be wondering why I’m telling you all this. Well that’s because Sleepy Hollow airs on Fox (the network that canceled Firefly, Futurama, and Almost Human). When Sleepy Hollow premiered its first season the show was heavily hyped which  caused over 22 million people to tune in to the first episode. This was so staggering that Fox renewed it for a second season within 24 hours of airing of the pilot giving season two 18 episodes where as season one only had 13. Sleepy Hollow was the first show of the 2013 fall season that was renewed for the 2014 fall season.

That’s great and fantastic but Fox is probably expecting Sleepy Hollow to pull those kinda of numbers again this season maybe even more! Also they’ve pushed Sleepy Hollow  back an hour from its original time slot and we can all remember what happened to the last show with WoC lead that got pushed back in its time slot (hang in there Korranation) .

So we need a push of ratings to make sure Sleepy Hollow stays on the air! You can watch episodes of season 1 on solar movie and season 2 premieres on September 22. I’ll also be streaming episodes of season one all through the coming weeks to pump you up for season one.

So go Nightvale fandom! Watch and support Sleepy Hollow!
