For a article in Dension magazine about Fairy Tales and the changing nature of how these stories are told — from Grimm's tales, to the super-scrubbed happy Disney tales through to the darker popularity of shows like Breaking Bad now. Fairy tale expert Maria Tatar also discusses how some of the world’s oldest tales help us navigate modern life.
Big thanks to Erin from Em Dash for this very interesting project!
“In a utilitarian age, of all other times, it is a matter of grave importance that fairy tales should be respected.” –Charles Dickens
(Final form of my Fairy Tale Dystopia series. Monsters don’t go away, they only assume new forms as the world develops, and maybe we do need some echoes of the old stories to orient ourselves in an increasingly automated environment. The world may be full of uncertainty, but fairy tales remind us that even in the face of ominous forces beyond our control, we can be responsible in the way we react to them.)
I thought I would be calmer after i finished my last College app, hahaha! But nooo I just feel more distractable, it’s hard to concentrate on HW and artwork, I’ve been getting even less sleep and generally don’t feel overly well. It’s not as bad as some people I know but it’s just frustrating for me since I’m not used to feeling like this, I’m not used to struggling with homework, which I know I should since it’s harder in college, and I know this is prolly temporary and yeah. Idk Im at that stage where I know I have responsibilitiesbut all I want to do now is watch-read Homestuck and read Telegraph Avenue and my book about Italy and articles on gender fluidity and draw magical girls/boys/androgynes/etc.
But unrelated, my AP studio art series is now “Fairy Tale Dystopia” and I’m really excited about it, I’ve been avoiding my teacher for my latest pic since she hates “cutesy” things and while my piece is meant to be dark it’s in its light stages and does look kind of cutesy at this point:
ANyway yeah have a selfie cuz why not.
It’s at starbucks and the sun was in my eyes so heheh weird expression.
