Wonder Woman Needs Our Help

I don’t normally make posts like this, but I feel like this is something I need to do because it’s bigger than myself. So, I don’t know if you’ve heard but the Wonder Woman film comes out June 2nd… And if you didn’t know that, there’s a reason for it.
Warner Brothers aren’t spending money on promoting the Wonder Woman film. No tv promotions, billboards, nothing. A film about a strong, powerful, amazing woman superhero directed by Patty Jenkins who happens to be the first woman to direct a superhero film with a female protagonist and one of only a handful (a literal handful… you can count on one hand) to direct a superhero film at all.
They are setting it up to fail so they can say “I told you so” and not only continue the blatant sexism in the film industry but blame it on Patty if the movie fails, setting female directors up (whom are already told they won’t get hired) so they can have an excuse to say “Oh well, we tried hiring a woman to direct a film and it didn’t work. Lets not do that again.”

This film is bigger than just being a superhero movie… It has the ability to bust open the glass ceiling of Hollywood to tell them that yes, superhero movies about women do well and yes, women can not only direct blockbusters but they can do it well. Because I can guarantee you, Patty does it well.

PLEASE spread this around and let Warner Brothers know we aren’t going to stand for this bullshit.

Something I really like about Ahiru and Fakir’s interactions are that they’re mainly that interactions between Fakir and Ahiru, not Fakir and Tutu and Fakir (after he knows) always refers to her as Ahiru. He always sees her as Ahiru.

 Unlike Mytho who practically only interacts with Ahiru as Tutu or when he does interact with Ahiru they are hardly moments of significance, or even Rue who enjoys important moments with Ahiru and willingly embraces her friendship until she discovers Ahiru is Princess Tutu and from that point on Tutu is all she sees when she looks at Ahiru (Rue’s inability to truly see past Tutu is really brought home when she nearly slips up and refers to Ahiru as Princess Tutu in front of Mytho during season two). Fakir, however, upon discovering her identity never thinks once that Ahiru is Princess Tutu, but that all this time Princess Tutu has been Ahiru. 

 She’s always Ahiru to him. Always. When she is taken away and he writes her a story to bring her back what name is it he calls to bring her back? Not Tutu, never Princess Tutu, but Ahiru. It might seem like a silly distinction to anyone else, but to me it feels so important. Fakir seems to be the only person who doesn’t fixate on Princess Tutu and I think it’s the reason I love Fakir and Ahiru together so much.

A Killer First Chapter

Do you have any advise on how to open a story? I have all my characters and my plot and my conflict and everything but I don’t know how to start. How to keep a reader hooked and interested enough to keep going.

This is a little ironic, because I’m about to rewrite my opening three chapters for The Warlord’s Contact from scratch for about the tenth time. But practice does make perfect, and boy have I learned a lot through this process.

Sometimes you look at a story and you just know how it needs to open. It’s the most obvious choice in the world, and it’s clear why no other option would work.

Unfortunately, that’s not often the case. Usually, the beginning to your book will take preplanning and rewriting and replanning and bit more rewriting, and all the while you’ll never quite be sure you chose the best spot to open to, or the right characters to introduce, or the proper setting. 

Here are a few specific methods of thought for tackling your first chapter…
