US asks India, Pakistan to resolve tensions to combat terrorism

Washington, Aug 19 (IANS) Describing terrorism as a shared challenge and a shared responsibility, the United States has suggested all countries, including India and Pakistan, work in concert and coordination to get at this very real threat.

Indian Prime Minister “has every right to be concerned about the security of his country and his people,” State Department spokesman John Kirby told reporters Tuesday when asked about Narendra Modi’s comments about terrorism during his recent visit to Dubai.

“We all recognize and our partners in that region recognize that terrorism is a shared challenge, a shared responsibility,” he said referring to Modi’s call to close all doors to terrorists like Dawood Ibrahim, who is reported to have homes in both Pakistan and Dubai.

It was, Kirby said, “for all of us to work together to share information as best we can and to work in concert and coordination - as we are against ISIL, 62-plus nations - to get at this very real threat.”

Asked how many terrorists wanted by both India and the US were hiding in Pakistan, Kirby said he had “no idea, what the number might be to that.”

But “independence celebrations, I think, offer a good opportunity for everybody, whether they’re Indian or Pakistani, to kind of reflect on the challenges, the common challenges and security situation there between those two countries and inside those two countries,” he said.

“We know there continue to be tensions, and our position about that has not changed. These are matters for both India and Pakistan to work out,” Kirby said.

“There’s certainly enough motivation to do that given that tension still exists.”

“As for our assistance, I mean, we have strong relationships with both countries,” he said though he did not have “the details of the security assistance package that was provided to Pakistan.”

“But we have strong bilateral relations with both countries, and we, the United States have, as Secretary (of State John) Kerry has said himself, have strong interest in seeing peaceful resolution to the tensions there,” Kirby said.

Celebrating Cardno’s long-term employees and influencers: Graham Tamblyn

Celebrating Cardno’s long-term employees and influencers: Graham Tamblyn

19/08/2015

In his 42 years with the company, Graham Tamblyn, former Cardno Managing Director and Chairman, has seen plenty of change.

“Cardno’s strength has always been its excellent culture, both in how it treats its staff, and how it services its clients,” says Graham. “As we have grown, merger integration and maintenance of that culture has been a consistent focus, and I believe we have managed that very well overall.”

Currently the National Discipline Leader - Urban, Graham began with Cardno & Davies in April 1973 as a Graduate Engineer - Civil Design, working on the design of road and drainage upgrades and sewer networks in developing suburbs in Brisbane. Today, Graham is charged with mentoring staff, leading and advising on key projects and assisting Cardno to grow its urban capabilities.

His journey throughout the company saw him promoted to manager and design engineer, Sunshine Coast in 1975, director of Cardno and Davies and director, Sunshine Coast office in 1987 and then serving as managing director from 1992 to 1997. From then, as a director he worked on Cardno’s growth strategy with the newly-appointed managing director, Andrew Buckley, while also continuing to lead the Sunshine Coast office and being appointed deputy chairman of the 2004-ASX listed Cardno Limited board.

Stepping down from board roles in 2010, Graham continued as a director of Cardno subsidiary companies, including Cardno (Qld) Pty Ltd, until mid-2015.

“I think the day we listed on the ASX as CDD in 2004 was a highlight for the company and its staff (as shareholders), and confirmed the integrity of our business plan and growth strategy in the eyes of our people, peers and investors,” says Graham.

“It lifted the Cardno profile, provided sustainable funding for further growth, and ensured Cardno could provide strong career paths and opportunities for all our staff, in a highly respected business.”

His own career highlights include working on award-winning projects, which have contributed to Cardno’s pre-eminent reputation for design of master planned residential waterway projects and environmental solutions. Two of Graham’s project highlights include the master-planned communities of Kawana Waters and Pelican Waters on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast - both Cardno projects for over 35 years.

Graham has also been a long-term member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA), believing his growing industry role has played a part in building Cardno’s urban engineering profile. He received a Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contribution in 2003, and was awarded Life Membership of UDIA (Qld) in 2010.

Throughout our foundation month of August, we’re celebrating (and thanking) all of Cardno’s long-serving team members and influencers for their contribution to the growth of our business in its 70 years of Shaping the Future.
