Probably the most unusual race car of the last few years is this, the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo. In a sea of mid-engine cars, Nissan went with a front-engine layout pushing power up to the front axle. It ran at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans a couple years ago, and that’s all she wrote for this one. The program was cancelled.
This smooth pile of aluminum and wood is a replica of Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion streamliner. The looks are one thing, but the drivetrain is an entirely different facet of this car’s uniqueness: it’s mid-engined and front wheel drive, with rear-wheel stearing. That would definitely take some getting used to. Just 3 of the originals were built.
