exhibition: violin sonata

#100daysofpractice day 2: One of the recordings that influenced my adolescence was Hilary Hahn’s CD of Charles Ives’s violin sonatas. It taught me the values of basics and intonation that enhance a listener’s experience in a concert hall. So this summer, I decided to pay tribute to this amazing violinist and recording by transcribing Ives’s complete 4th sonata (subtitled “Children’s Day at the Camp meeting”) for bassoon. It’ll be first performed at my graduation recital during the school year.

Cesar Franck’s Violin Sonata in A: IV. Allegretto poco mosso

Frank and I are currently working on this.  I love how the main theme continuously modulates, growing in intensity.  It’s so much fun to play!
