I didn’t realize how misinformed I was about skincare until I started practicing a little witchcraft. I thought that apricot scrubs were good, oil was bad, and that cystic acne couldn’t be treated topically. Oh, was I wrong. About a year ago, I befriended a 30 year practicing witch who had about 14 years cosmetology experience at the time. Having just discovered Paganism myself, I constantly bugged her about both subjects. She taught me some basics and I’ve been using them ever since. They really work. And it’s a nice and easy introduction to spells if you’re looking to get into somethin’ spooky.

First things first: Apricot scrubs are TERRIBLE. Any facial scrub that has granules you can see is going to put tiny cuts in your already irritated face and make your acne more susceptible to infection/irritation. She recommended using a mixture of coconut oil and baking soda to make a paste that will very very gently remove dead skin without causing redness. People with rosacea should avoid using any type of scrub, even though this one is very mild. Never exfoliate more than 2-3 times a week, and never ever do it two days in a row. When you’re done, make sure you put as much oil as you can in the trash can- rinsing it off in the sink will clog the drain over time. And remember- the thicker the paste, the more coarse the scrub will be. Scrub using gentle yet wide circular motions, timing yourself at about 60 seconds.

Oil is not bad for your skin! Coconut oil has tiny molecules unlike other oils, so it can penetrate hair and skin better than other oils. Coconut oil is excellent at pulling your natural facial oils out of your pores without stripping moisture. After you use the scrub, use a warm, damp wash cloth to gently wipe away the oil and baking soda. You should always moisturize immediately after cleansing, but I’ve noticed that after using this cleanser my skin doesn’t ususally need it. Besides coconut oil, lavender oil, grapeseed oil, and sweet almond oil are also very good for acne prone skin. Tea tree oil can be diluted heavily and applied to spot treat, but do not use more than once a week in small quantities or it will make your skin itchy and red. Always always always moisturize before putting on makeup by the way!

As for the face masks! I have a face mask recipe that will reduce my pore size by like 80-90%. Seriously. If I used it once a week I’d have perfect skin, but I don’t, so even when my skin is at its worst, this mask still kicks ass. I don’t have exact measurements for everything (or anything really) so please be patient with yourself when making them. But that’s the beauty of this recipe- you can change it to fit your skin problems with a little research and a trip to the health food store. Side note: Do the mask right after you use the scrub. Otherwise it won’t work as well.

The base of the mask is this magical powder called kaolin clay. I buy it in bulk at the health food store and it’s cheap as hell. It’s just a mild clay that turns to putty then hardens in ten minutes. I probably use ¾ cup, maybe even a full cup for a mask. Just depends on how many liquids you want to include. Star out small and add as you go.

After putting a starter amount of clay into a small bowl, I set that aside and start on the liquids. I like to use tea instead of water. I make a teensy amount of hot water then pour it over green tea, rose petals, and calendula petals. Green tea is anti-inflammatory, rose balances pH, and calendula is great for skin. Try to buy organic so you’re not dousing yourself in pesticides. I set these aside to brew. The less water you use, the stronger the tincture, and the less time you need to wait.

I only have a few essential oils, but if you do a little research, it is super easy to pick out some that are good for skin and are non-comodegenetic (won’t clog pores). I take my little bowl of clay and start adding a few drops of lavender oil, a few drops of grapeseed oil, a squirt of sweet almond, and two tiny drops of tea tree. Other options are ylang ylang (good for oily skin), chamomile (very soothing), and clary sage (for reverse aging and puffiness). I would say maybe 5 oils would be a good maximum, just because you need room for the tea.

Add the tea by holding the flowers back with a spoon and pouring tiny little amounts into the clay and oil mixture, stirring frequently so that you don’t get it too thin. You want it the texture of Elmer’s glue. If a few petals get into the mask, that’s fine. Some people add loose green tea leaves to their masks straight up, so whatever’s clever. Then just smear the mask on, avoiding the eye area if you used tea tree oil, and leave it on for about 10 minutes. It will harden so if you want to drink anything you should use a straw, and the mask will flake a bit towards the end, so be aware of that. Once the ten minutes is up, just splash wet water on your face to turn it back to glue texture, then wash off with warm water. This may take a while. Then after you dry your face with a clean towel, check out your pores in the mirror! This is my favorite part because there are patches of my skin when I don’t have visible pores at all, and where I do, they are so much lighter and smaller. The essential oils must penetrate the blackheads or something, I have no idea, but it does what no Biore strips or Clean and Clear scrub have ever done before.

Make sure you moisturize after ! I have really bad acne so I follow up with benzoyl peroxide (doctor’s orders) and a light drugstore moisturizer to keep my pores looking like this as long as possible. I recommend doing this mask once a week at least, but definitely no more that once every three days. And don’t pop pimples! Give these remedies some time and you will see a huge difference.

One more thing: Rose water. I make my own, but it can be bought at $30 a bottle at Sephora. However, I don’t use mine that often because it’s non-organic, so unless you have the hookup on organic roses, you might want to steer clear. Basically all it is is rose tea. I get roses from my boyfriend frequently, so I hang them up to dry thoroughly and then collect the petals in a burlap bag. Once I have a grocery bag’s worth, I toss them in a pot to boil. There are lots of ways to do this online, but mine is very simple. Just bring petals to a soft boil, steep until it’s dark red, then let cool. I store mine in a massive mason jar in the refrigerator. I leave some petals in there to make it stronger, but you can strain them immediately if you like. Definitely strain them before using the water to make you life a little easier.

I use rose water as a toner between cleansing and moisturizing. It’s cool from refrigeration, which calms any puffiness, and it apparently balances pH. Another cool thing about it is it moistens your face right before you moisturize. Lotion doesn’t always add moisture to your skin, it often just retains what moisture you have. So if you moisturize damp skin, you’ll retain more moisture. Seems weird but it works.

The witchcraft comes in where you want it to. I like to put intention in the stirring; meaning I stir right if I want to embrace good vibes and positive outcomes, stir left if I have something negative on my mind that I want to banish. I think there is magic in the herbs and oils themselves so I don’t get too fancy or chant, but it is totally a thing for people to chant while making these kinds of elixirs. Tumblr is full of awesome little rituals! I just tend to keep it simple.

So anyways this is basically everything I know about skincare, and it was all taught to me by a woman in her late thirties that looks like she’s 24. Kudos if you read this entire thing! Seacrest out.

Mars Aspects
  • Mars/Sun: Strong will and energy and unless mars is in detriment, prominent vital force. Competitive, impulsive and combative nature. If harmonious, action and willpower are working together and the animal nature of mars is tamed. Needs activity otherwise lethargy makes them ill. Quick, alert and wants to be seen as independent and individualistic. Desire, bravery and ambitions are strong here. If sexually inclined, sexual-nature is apt to be potent. Easily angered, passionate, dominating and opinionated. If afflicted, anger must be kept from becoming destructive and violent, should be used effectively. With the square and opposition there is inner conflict of the identity against the warrior that needs overcoming.
  • Mars/Moon: Strong vitality and resilient inner being. Energetic and alert, possesses recuperative abilities. Subtle competitive nature, opinionated and apt to defend those in need. Can be impulsive, moody, hot tempered and easily offended. Subconscious feelings and energy working together if harmonious; the animal nature of mars is tamed and used constructively. Good for leadership roles and gives natural androgynous personality traits, making it easy for friendly but assertive relationships with others if harmonious. The square and opposition bring inner conflict where the needs are concerned; the soul against the warrior. Can get aggressive, selfish and become antagonists to themselves if afflicted. If not grasped healthily, there is bound to be trouble as far as relationships are concerned, especially with the mother or feminine figures.
  • Mars/Mercury: The mind is alert, clever, witty and restless. An active kind of person who enjoys debates. Activity is important, otherwise boredom causes the nerves to exasperate from agitation. Skillful in literature and/or mathematics. Comical and humorous nature, good dexterity and coordination, and tough mental capability. Reason working with action if harmonious; the warrior has a useful and valuable mind filled with tactics. Easily offended, more so if intelligence is tested or insulted. A biting tongue with snappy sarcasm, more dishonest, belligerent and untasteful if afflicted. With the square and opposition, the mind is animalistic and needs steadying, otherwise can aggravate the muscles and nerves as well as cause frustration with others.
  • Mars/Venus: The hardiness and vigor of mars united with the gentleness, sentiments and values of Venus; here lies the adventurous romantic. Much energy is put into creative interests and in surrounding themselves with beauty. Their principles and ideals are important to them, apt to fight for love or to passionately maintain peace. Makes for talents surrounding creativity such as singing, art, music and acting/theatre. Sensual and magnetic personality. If sexually inclined, sexual nature is ardent and the native appreciates both a loving and sexual relationship. Strongly concerned with money. If harmonious, tends to be sociable and friendly; the anima and animus are congruent. With the conjunction the two energies can be challenging to manage, there is fluctuation between the harshness of mars and softness of Venus. Androgynous characteristics are present due to the natural balancing of the powers of masculinity and femininity in the personality, more so if harmonious. If afflicted, such as with the square or opposition, sociable nature is troubled and romantic and/or social relationships with others proves to be difficult.
  • Mars/Jupiter: Sincere, straightforward, openly opinionated and holds deep-seated beliefs. Beliefs are usually spiritual, religious or political. Strong sense of justice, fights for it. The square or opposition can be so devoted to justice that they may foolhardily take it into their own hands. A friendly, generous, charitable, confident and approachable kind of person. The harmonious contacts prove to be natural teachers. Strong faith in inner truths and in others, but their greatest enemies can be idealism of the world and doubtfulness in themselves. Can over-exert themselves and get carried away in things they’re passionate about. If sexually inclined, appreciates a fleeting, sexual and adventurous kind of romance. With the square or oppositions and sometimes the conjunction, these people are apt to forcefully put their opinions on others. Arrogance in beliefs and unwise judgment with the harsh aspects. Can attack others for not believing in what they believe in, or hold bias more so if found in fixed signs. With any Jupiter aspect indulgence can become a problem.
  • Mars/Saturn: If harmonious, the animal is tamed by the discipline of Saturn. If disharmonious, the warrior battles with authority. Control and structure are important to these people. Likely to follow and/or enforce the rules. With the conjunction, square and oppositions, Saturn restricts Mars and there is fear of asserting oneself, perhaps a fear of authority figures. Can be extremely self-willed and controlling towards others. Very enduring. With the sextile and trine, are more reliable, responsible and constructive with clear judgment and common sense; more willing to work hard for what they strongly desire. Puts much effort into controlling temper, so much that those with Mars/Saturn aspects can suffer internal and confined rage that has no proper outlet. If sexually inclined, the sexual nature is vigorous, concerned with dominating. With the hard contacts, there could be fear of sexual activity. Can be remarkably courageous, successful, ambitious and directing if fear of failure is defeated. Good for those pursuing business. Easily makes enemies, more so in the fixed signs or if Venus is weak in the chart. Soft contacts tend to be active and structured, while the hard contacts may experience lethargy and disorientation. With the square or opposition, impulse and action need controlling; there is struggle between mars who rushes head first and Saturn who demands caution and patience.
  • Mars/Uranus: Erratic stamina, accident prone; can experience sudden physical injuries. If sexually inclined, there is an energetic, “strange" and unconventional sexual nature. Boredom irritates the nerves. Individualistic in nature, excellent problem solving skills and inspirational to others. The personality is magnetic, a sociable person. Apt to take up battles that aren’t theirs, to fight for humanity and the underdog. With the sextile or trine there is an exceptional ability to take immediate action and handle difficult ordeals in life. Independent nature from an early age with powerful intuitions. With any Uranus aspect, there is an inner genius if used properly. A Universal kind of person, can tolerate anything or anyone, excluding boredom. Puts energy into fighting for what is right, a talented debater. Can be good with technology and scientific matters. Soft contacts do not conform to rules unless the rules add up, hard aspects may recklessly rebel against rules with no cause. Violent temper, poor judgment, impatience, willfulness and recklessness need controlling when it comes to the conjunction, square or opposition. The hard aspects can experience challenging and sudden endings of important matters in the life, depending on the houses and signs involved.
  • Mars/Neptune: With the hard contacts, the warrior is dissolved and the person is apt to not be a fighter. Resorts to passive aggression. With the sextile or trine, mars triumphs; cannot be fooled by deception especially of hidden enemies, has a compassionate and honest nature, a practical idealist and has the energy to go for their dreams. With the hard aspects, one is predisposed to be the victim, a complex to be a martyr or to be saved. With the soft aspects, is inclined to be the hero, a complex to save others. A good actor, charismatic personality and sensual nature. May put energies into artistic, spiritual, and creative endeavors. Intuitive, emotional, sensitive, psychic and empathetic spirit. If sexually inclined, seeks a deep, romantic and spiritual connection. Can have sexual fantasies and hold what are considered strange sexual interests, more so with the hard contacts. If afflicted, there are self-delusions and fantasies of winning, competing and being strong. Hard contacts can potentially become self-destructive, obsessive, confused and restless. The harsh aspects can be deceiving or easily deceived (or both) and need to learn to acquire a sense of responsibility, integrity and understand what it means to sacrifice. With any Neptune/mars contact, must be careful where addictions are concerned.
  • Mars/Pluto: Knowledgeable of sexual matters from an early age and if sexually inclined, the sexual nature is formidably great and raw, sexual intimacy is preferred. Sexual nature can be suppressed out of fear with the square or opposition, but if not addressed can surface compulsively. Abundance of ambition and drive. The animal self is doubled and needs restraint and cultivating if afflicted. With the hard contacts, cruelty, ruthlessness, power-struggles and self-destruction need monitoring. With the trine or sextile there is self-confidence, healthy ambition, courage and dynamic energy put to good use. Mars/Pluto contacts makes for powerful emotions and an interest in the occult, taboos and spiritual matters. Psychic, dominating, magnetic, competitive, probing and charismatic presence and personality. Control and assertion of power are important to these people. Extremely private. Not one to trust or to be deceived easily. Physical activity is needed to manage the forces of mars and Pluto, more so with the opposition or square. Can be beneficially fearless and brave if buried rage and power-complex are managed. With the hard aspects, a fighting-for-survival mentality is present and there is a distrust of oneself and of masculinity that needs attending.

Hard Aspects Between Saturn and the Moon

Hard aspects between Saturn and an Aries Moon tone down the impetuousness of Aries. They can be beneficial to an Aries Moon because they slow the individual down long enough for him to gain some insight and control over his emotions.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Taurus Moon reinforce the Taurus Moon’s cautiousness and conservatism, making it even harder for the individual to move forward and accept change. These aspects are mainly disadvantageous but, unless they represent an entrenched pattern of inflexibility, were probably chosen for a reason.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Gemini Moon are usually helpful because they discipline its fluidity and adaptability and limit its curiosity. These aspects may have been chosen either to balance over-adaptability or to provide a challenge which, when overcome, will result in growth.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Cancer Moon add to its moodiness, pessimism, and depression. Therefore, these aspects can be quite difficult. However, they may be used to develop strength, aid the life task, or balance a karmic debt or negative pattern from the past.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Leo Moon may blunt its confidence. The Leo Moon might overcompensate for this insecurity by acting all the more arrogant. Although these individuals feel unsure about expressing themselves, they also feel compelled to, which results in an uncomfortable internal conflict. These aspects may have been chosen to balance a domineering attitude or to temper the exuberance of this Moon sign so that the individual fits more comfortably into non-leadership roles. Or, these aspects may have been chosen to add discipline to the Leo Moon’s creativity or to develop a specific talent.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Virgo Moon amplify this Moon sign’s tendency toward isolation, moroseness, and feelings of inadequacy. These individuals are challenged to love and accept themselves regardless of imperfections or feelings of alienation. These aspects may have been chosen to accelerate growth. They may cause the individual to turn within and find comfort in virtuous qualities already present or to develop them as a way of increasing his self-esteem or gaining the acceptance desired from others.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Libra Moon may cause frustration or delays in relationships. These individuals may find their insecurities interfering with their ability to assert themselves toward getting their emotional needs met. The Libra Moon’s need for companionship may be thwarted or blocked by the belief that he is not lovable, which is his greatest fear. These aspects may have been chosen to balance dependency by forcing the individual to be more independent. If that were the case, their purpose would be to build a stronger sense of self. After this is accomplished, a successful partnership is more likely.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Scorpio Moon add pessimism and a need for control and power. As a result, these individuals have difficulty enjoying life, relaxing, and letting down their defenses. They assume everything is of dire consequence to their position in life. And since position is so important to them, they may manipulate and connive to control situations. On the positive side, these individuals may have keen intellects and reasoning powers, excellent insight into human nature, and an ability to do research or detective work.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Sagittarius Moon temper the boisterous and sometimes overly exuberant energy of the Sagittarius Moon so that it can operate more practically and realistically. Saturn aspects to this Moon bring discipline, realism, caution, patience, and endurance, all qualities that may be lacking in many Sagittarius Moons.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Capricorn Moon reinforce its pessimism and seriousness. Like hard aspects between Saturn and a Virgo Moon, they may have been chosen to accelerate growth.

Hard aspects between Saturn and an Aquarius Moon, like these same aspects to a Scorpio Moon, make for an incisive and probing mind. The creativity and inspiration of the Aquarius Moon is disciplined and given some structure by these aspects. They are usually chosen to aid the work or the life task. They add to the already cool and aloof emotional style of the Aquarius Moon, making his energies more available for humanitarian causes or work rather than relationships.

Hard aspects between Saturn and a Pisces Moon are more beneficial than not. They give the diffuse and intangible energy of Pisces some structure, realism, and discipline. Saturn offers the qualities that Pisces most lacks: realism, persistence, discipline, patience, and practicality. These aspects are often chosen to balance negative Piscean tendencies from past lives, while maintaining Piscean gifts.

Fandom Fridays: American Dad

If you’ve ever wondered how fiction writers make conversations in their stories sound natural, watch an episode of American Dad. This cartoon has some of the best realistic dialogue, even though the plots are often bizarre. Seth Macfarlene is a master of character development and displays what makes a T.V. show relatable.

American Dad doesn’t make a character say something ridiculous just to get a laugh. The characters’ personalities are consistent, so what makes them funny is seeing their flaws come through in everyday conversation. All the characters have quirks but they still speak to each other about personal issues, judge each other, and get caught up in the mundane struggles of life like anyone else. Another thing  that makes the show funny is when characters debate about the semantics of language. We can all relate to petty arguments and misunderstandings because of ambiguity in language.

American Dad knows when to utilize one-liners to naturally give information about who a character is. Also, the show’s  dialogue doesn’t just advance the plot but establishes the intricacies of the characters’ relationships. Seth Macfarlene understands getting an audience invested in a show is more than just writing wacky stories.

The show takes small life issues and shows the complexities of them through the characters’ dialogue. Likewise, through the show’s diverse characters we see simple issues from multiple perspectives. Every writer will have their own biases come through in their stories, but Seth Macfarlene is open to sharing opposing opinions too. Good dialogue in a show or a novel allows room for an audience to debate.

American Dad also creates believable characters through their mannerisms. What makes characters fleshed out is the little nuances reflecting their personality. American Dad sometimes exaggerates a character’s body language. However, the exaggeration makes the characters relatable because it makes them diverse like humans are, instead of being robotic.

Finally, American Dad is an excellent example of natural conversation through its honest dialogue. The show doesn’t try to sugar coat life struggles but reveals the flaws of being human. American Dad displays what makes dialogue believable and interesting to listen to.

Be More Chill - Monster AU

take that title loosely cause they arent all technically monsters

Jeremy: Werewolf - first things first he is a VERY scrawny werewolf even when he is transformed. I know its kind of unfitting but i honestly couldnt think of anything other than just making him human but that would be weird so im just gonna use his furry kink as an explanation for this one folks

EDIT:. Jeremy is a satyr now

Michael: Half dragon hybrid - i dont know what to call it but think wings, tail, fangs, and a fire breath exclusively used for lighting joints. hes a music obsessed stoner dragon with anxiety what more do i say

Christine: Angel - you heard it here first folks shes a literal angel.

Rich: Halfling dwarf - think lord farquaad. thats it. literally his only powers are being short and buff (also if i remember from DnD they can kind of see in the dark but i havent reviewed the handbook in a while)

Jake: Demon - his parents stole money from some important dudes in hell so he’s just chillin while they flee. He’s actually a pretty high class demon so he naturally excels at a lot of things, hence the all of the extracurriculars he does

Brooke: Siren (the mermaid kind not the freaky bird kind) - you know those mermaid movies where they only have tails in the water? think of it like that. she has a beautiful voice (obviously) but shes insecure about it because it can kind of straight up lure people to her (and occasionally kill them)

Chloe: Just a really sexy witch - think hogwarts student but she doesnt need a wand. Lowkey jealous of other people at school because all she can do is cast spells while there are some that can straight up murder people

Jenna: I cant think of anything - i actually cant think of anything feel free to help me out. please EDIT:. Shes a psychic and can see peoples futures/do very basic mind readings! Thats how she knows the dirt on everyone

The SQUIPS: the squips are a species of spirit-like shapeshifters capable of minor possessions that convince you that they can help you get whatever you want before using you, your status or even just straight up taking over your body to get what they need

also this is just extra and unnecessary but Madeline is a succubus and thats why she always manages to have sex with dudes
