excellent acting

10

It’s been nearly thirteen hours since I watched the episode and I’m still reeling from the excellence of Cole’s acting. He grew up with a Disney career- one that required his acting style to be over-the-top and humourous, even influenced by slapstick comedy. He nailed the role of Cody Martin, and I, as a ten year old, could relate to the younger Martin twin so much. I looked forward to seeing the Sprouse twins on my telly everyday at eight o'clock, while I ate my dinner.

But Riverdale and The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody are completely different shows, requiring a whole different plethora of emotions.

Ever since Riverdale aired, a number of people have underestimated Cole’s acting talent. They’ve compared him to everyone else on the show, claiming that the only reason Cole was cast was that he’d draw attention to this series. While his involvement with the show may have garnered attention, to some extent, Cole was also cast because he wanted to give the role his all, and he didn’t disappoint.

So, here we are, nearly done with the season, and I’m so proud. Because no one can underestimate him anymore. He’s acted brilliantly in every episode, every scene he was in, but episode eleven was the one that really took the cake. He bared himself to the audience, he put in so much effort to create this version of Jughead that we’ve come to love with every fibre of our being, and I’m engulfed with pride.

Congratulations, Cole. This fandom is proud to have you.

Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna (June 18, 1901 - July 17, 1918)

Anastasia Nicolaievna, on the other hand, was very roguish and almost a wag. She had a very strong sense of humour, and the darts of her wit often found sensitive spots. She was rather an enfant terrible, though this fault tended to correct itself with age. She was also extremely idle, though with the idleness of a gifted child. Her French accent was excellent, and she acted scenes from comedy with remarkable talent. She was so lively, and her gaiety so infectious, that several members of the suite had fallen into the way of calling her “Sunshine,” the nickname her mother had been given at the English Court. - Pierre Gilliard, Thirteen Years at the Russian Court

whenever marginalized groups complain about the lack of content highlighting their stories and issues, they are told to “create their own content, then.” however, when they do, they are faced with overwhelming critique, overwhelming ignorance, or a mixture of both.

Pitch was diverse, had a black female lead, addressed topics like rape, feminism, and mental health. It had healthy relationship dynamics. It had SEVERAL great, complex, female characters with agency and narrative. It had good writing and excellent acting. ALL THAT AND IT WAS JUST GETTING STARTED. But it had no following.

Pitch being cancelled should shut down every argument against the prevalence of fandom racism, white feminism and racial bias in entertainment. There is no way in HELL this show should have failed. It had EVERYTHING going for it - EVERYTHING! It just comes back to race, like everydamnthing. If Ginny had been played by a pretty white girl she’d have been everywhere. She’d be the most talked about thing on tumblr with the exact same storylines, personality, love interests and backstory.

It’s hard to imagine there’s ever gonna be another show/film about the first female in major league baseball, but if there is, chances are she’ll be white and watch what happens….

Tumblr can’t be responsible for a show’s failure, it’s not that powerful. But the site at least can start a conversation or a movement. Pitch would’ve gotten cancelled with or without being hot shit on tumblr. BUT if tumblr gave a damn, there could’ve at least been a little fight for it. Petitions, hashtags, anything…something to show it had an audience. Maybe caught the interest of other networks.

I’ve seen what the White Feminists of Tumblr can do when it comes to fighting for a character they think “deserved better ”. Y'all know how to get your discourse to the right people -in a shockingly organized manner.

Well, Ginny Baker deserved better, too. We deserved Ginny Baker. And there’s no “crew ” or “defense squad ” to be seen.

Love your winterironwidow AUs, they give me life! But most are winterwidow to winterironwidow, how about we change it up a bit: Tony and Nat are working together (and being together) as a sort of "anything-for-hire" - they will steal, spy, assassinate and protect, whatever is needed, for money. And they are VERY good at what they do, what with Nat's infiltrating sneaky spy skills combined with Tony's computer/gadget skills and brains (and they are both excellent at acting). (1/2)

(2/2) Then one mission Tony’s cover has been blown and he has to disappear into the crowd. He spies a guy sitting alone in a café and sits down next to him asking him to hide him because some guys have been following him all day. Bucky, always the gentleman, does exactly that, and they proceed to have a wonderful first date which doubles as a job interview because turns out the former special forces sniper is currently unemployed, and has just the right skill set to compliment the other two.

“Tony,” Natasha says slowly, eyeing up the good-looking young man currently standing half-naked in their bedroom. “What did I say about cheating on me?”

“Not to, or you’d slit the bitch’s throat right in front of me and make me watch them die, then drown me in their blood,” Tony cheerfully replies, sauntering out of the walk-in closet he’d insisted every safe house would have to contain, while the stranger spluttered. “He’s got great abs though.”

“I can see that,” Natasha states drily because he really does. Dead-Hottie-Walking–and damn it, Tony’s ridiculous nickname habits are starting to rub off on her despite her best efforts–has earned the name. He’s also pulling himself together remarkable fast, refuses to break eye-contact with her despite the light blush that refuses to die down.

Natasha always respects a man who refuses to cower in front of her but is still smart enough to realise he’s in trouble.

“He’s also a sniper,” Tony adds, as though that is supposed to make her feel any better, and throws the guy a shirt he catches without looking.

Oddly enough it does make her feel better.

“Really?” she drawls, attention still fully focused on the unknown threat. “And how did you come to lose your shirt?”

Dead-Hottie-Walking’s mouth sets into a tight line, before he visibly forces himself to relax, shrugs. “It got blood on it,” he answers, no inflection whatsoever. And yes, she can see why Tony likes him.

Damn it.

“So,” she leans against the door frame, folding her arms in front of her chest in a mock-show of patience. “Are you going to tell me why you’ve invited a virtual stranger in our,” secret “bedroom or should I go get my knives and get the answers myself?”

“Kinky,” Dead-Hottie-Walking mutters not quite under his breath. Definitely see why Tony likes him.

“It totally wasn’t my fault!” her loveable, genius, idiot of a boyfriend blurts out, hands flailing. “I was just doing my job, there was absolutely no way I could’ve foreseen-!”

Natasha suppresses a sign.

So this is going to be one of those days.

I adore this. I love the twist of Tony/Nat being a thing before Bucky joins them!!! (He totally will, it’s just gonna take some time, for one Nat will have to stop calling him Dead-Hottie-Walking at some point) I hope you like the silliness I came up with :)

anonymous asked:

kylo killed his father in cold blood, how do you see him realistically making reparations for that in the film?

Well, I think you’re looking at a fictional story too literally if you believe these actions are one-to-one related to the real world. They are terrible - for SURE! Kylo Ren, as he is now, is a dumbass and a jerk. No arguments there. But those of us who like his character see a potential for masterful storytelling here. Obviously if this were the real world… I’d be terrified of someone like Kylo. But we are talking about a SPACE OPERA here… not your next-door neighbor.

I think one thing anti-Kylo people do is look at these stories through a real world lens… but that’ just bad story and character analysis. You’re not looking at his characterization as a DEVICE for the plot - and ultimately for the core morals and lessons involved in that overarching plot.

Fairy tales and particularly Star Wars are not tales about perfect people who make all the right choices. It’s about people making mistakes, and learning from those mistakes, to ultimately do the right thing IN THE END. It’s about the central messages and themes we take away from it all. Characters serve a specific purpose - to make us learn things and see things anew. You better bet Kylo has that purpose.

And of course, there is even precedent in the Star Wars universe teaches us that anyone can be saved. Just look at the actions of Darth Vader. His actions were at least - and not limited to -

-turning on the Jedi Order and becoming a literal Sith Lord

-killing dozens and dozens of children in cold blood (far more chilling than two old dudes if you ask me)

-accusing his pregnant wife of cheating with his best friend

-accusing his pregnant wife of being a traitor and committing treason

-Force choking his pregnant wife

-killing his pregnant wife

-trying to kill his best friend, who was his father figure

-mass genocide on a grand, galaxy-wide scale

-kidnapping and torturing his daughter

-killing his own father figure and former best friend - Obi-wan

-kidnapping and torturing his daughter’s boyfriend

-freezing his daughter’s boyfriend in carbonite

-kidnapping and cutting off his son’s hand

-trying to manipulate his son to join the Dark Side

-kidnapping his son and taking him to the most evil man to have ever lived in the galaxy - the Emperor

That’s not even everything but I’m tired already. Vader was busy y’all. Yet Vader was redeemed in the end - through the love of his son.

But beyond that, in the context of Star Wars, Kylo Ren’s actions are bad - but they’re not irredeemable bad. I’m not excusing anything he’s done, and I think his character HAS to suffer dearly for it. And I think he will, in many intimate and personal ways.

But, I gotta say, you’re looking at his action out of context. We have seen much more vicious, unrepenting characters in SW, and that Kylo is already showing guilt and shame is a pretty big tip off he’s headed for redemption. And, also, I think this action - being dramatic and horrific as it was - has to MEAN something, in the greater story. More than just, “KYLO IS EEEEEVIIIIL MWAHAHAHA!!!”

First, if you’re a Han Solo fan, you should want his death to mean something - and that’s was Harrison Ford wanted all along too.

But Han’s death is meaningless if he couldn’t actually save his son - like he went there to do. If Ben Solo doesn’t come back, Han died for nothing.

I think Ben Solo - for the sake of the story - had to kill his father to realize that Snoke is lying to him and manipulating him. JJ himself has confirmed that Kylo didn’t want to kill his father but thought he had to. We don’t know why that is yet… but, he thought it was the only way to further whatever cause (which we the audience have not entirely been made aware of yet - keep that in mind) he is trying to accomplish.

The thing is: JJ confirms it didn’t actually help him get further to the Dark Side. Can you imagine how that’s going to play out in his character?? How his trust with Snoke will be shaken? How his interactions with Rey will inform his character arc from here on out?

Why y’all think he failed his fight so poorly against Rey? You think he’s that bad of a Force user that he can lose to a total n00b?? Nah, he was grief-stricken and horrified at what he’d done - Adam’s excellent acting skills should tell that story, even without JJ’s commentary.

NOT SAYING that makes it ok - but in the CONTEXT of a fictional universe, showing your bad guy grief stricken over a terrible act he’s just committed is a huge sign he is not a big bad. It’s a huge sign he’s going to change.

Kylo realized he fucked up, and Snoke is a liar. Now, he will probably stay in denial for a little bit, but eventually he’ll have to come to terms with this. And I think he’s probably going to want to go after Snoke with a passionate vengence - and ultimately help Rey do that.

And that brings me to the next point. SPOILERS FOR AFTERMATH AND BLOODLINE BELOW.

We know from the Aftermath series that Ben Solo had been manipulated, groomed, and preyed upon by Snoke since he was a FETUS. Now, I want you to imagine that. A FETUS is being touched by the Dark Side IN THE WOMB from this terrible dark energy - which Leia confirms is Snoke in TFA. Again, Kylo is responsible for his decisions, but to say that he cannot learn and grow past a lifetime of abuse and manipulation, that he cannot escape that no matter what he tries to do if he learns his lesson… y’all that is some fucked up thinking, not gonna lie.

Finally, and this is the most important part:

WE DON’T KNOW BEN SOLO’S STORY YET.

WE DON’T KNOW WHY HE IS DOING WHAT HE IS DOING.

We are led to believe he thinks what he is doing is ultimately RIGHT and GOOD.

Again - not excusing his behavior - but if we are to understand Ben Solo, I think we have to understand that he thinks his actions are necessary to save the galaxy. Something has happened to convince him that what he’s doing is the only way.

If you thought killing your father would save the galaxy… wouldn’t you do it? I’m sorry, but I probably would if I thought it would save BILLIONS OR TRILLIONS of people. I would hate myself - as Kylo Ren presumably does. But I would probably do it.

Remember, it’s a war, and even in the real world, family on opposite sides of war kill each other. It’s sad and tragic… but it is even a part of our world. There’s no excuse that can make up for what Kylo did… but I do hope it forces him to stop doing the wrong things and realize his way is NOT going to save people, like he may think he is doing.

And, not only that, but

Han himself knew the sacrifice he was potentially making.

As a father, he wanted to make that sacrifice, no matter the risks. I, for one, don’t want to see his sacrifice go in vain. I’d like to see it be Ben’s turning point back toward the light.

Also, we know from Bloodline that when the New Republic learned of  Leia and Luke being Vader’s children, they went after Leia. She even faced an assassination attempt and openly worries what could happen to Luke and Ben - that someone might go after them.

We don’t know what happened to turn Ben Solo to the Dark Side. We are all assuming he found out about Vader and went batshit crazy and killed a bunch of younglings a la Anakin 2.0.

But we don’t actually KNOW that. Wait for the story! Until we know everything, we are shooting in the dark to assassinate a character we know nothing about!

We also know Rian Johnson helped Claudia Gray write certain aspects of Bloodline - that he gave suggestions to plot points to help inform the audience in preparation for TLJ!

My speculation, based on what I read in Bloodline,  is that someone in the New Republic didn’t like that Vader’s son and grandson were playing around with the Force and targeted them - possibly trying to destroy anything and everything Jedi-related, including people.

A betrayal like this from the New Republic to Ben would be everything - it means his home, his family who lied to him for years, his justice system - ALL OF IT - cannot be trusted.

It would explain why Luke went into hiding, too. Luke is a pacifist who would rather walk away than confront an entire government. Even if the government as a whole didn’t do anything, it’s possible individuals in the New Republic would based on such shocking news. I imagine a significant amount of people would be terrified of Vader’s offspring and descendants furthering their legacy in the Force.

Regardless of speculation, we don’t know Ben Solo’s story yet. Wait for the story, see what happens. And, sure, if by the end of it, Kylo Ren is still running around with clenched fists and ramming his sword into every old man and console that comes along his path…

Sure, then we can say, “that guy is an irredeemable asshole!!!”

But, I for one, think they’re going to build a pretty epic story and the big “twist” for TLJ will be something that changes our opinion of Ben and his actions entirely - to the point that he will be redeemable and sympathetic.

The fact is, I think even most anti-Kylo people will be able to accept his character if he starts making good decisions and gets a well told back story. Let’s trust the almighty Lucasfilm gods to give us a great story that challenges our expectations and assumptions - which THEY ALWAYS do! And I also think Rey is going to be integral to that change and they will NEED each other to figure it all out.

I have a complicated relationship with this time period for various reasons, but I cannot deny the absolute GENIUS of the entire concept of this time. More than music, it’s probably the best demonstration of bringing to life a vision in one’s mind. He created an entire enterprise around this album in a way that’s much deeper than it seems if you consider the climate of music in the mid 80′s and sorry to take it there, but especially the difficulty in crossing over as a Black artist. This is a time when Billboard dropped all the music by Black artists on their “Black Albums” charts, music award categories would lump everyone together in “Black” categories, and our artists weren’t being played on MTV. It as a different time…

But this project…

He pushed through all the muck in an extremely calculated way while still being able to stay true to his cheeky nature. 3 of the songs on this album are still solely performed by Prince (The Beautiful Ones, Darling Nikki, When Doves Cry), there was a stunning 6-month 100 stop tour to promote the album, and he built a fanbase of MILLIONS screaming and loving on this thing that was just a seed in his mind the year before…and not just people who looked like him, many who didn’t!

May we all be as driven to push through obstacles  to make things happen, and may we all recognize and respect the process of preparation and how our dedication, tenacity, and hard work leads to insumountable success!

Today tipping my hat to Purple Rain.

17.03.20 Sakurai Sho leading in movie “Laplace’s Witch” O.A. 2018 [English translation]

Story by Higashino Keigo “Laplace’s Witch”, directed by Miike Takashi

ARASHI’s Sakurai Sho-san (35) will act the leading role in movie “Laplace’s Witch” (Rapurasu no majo) (O.A. 2018, directed by Miike Takashi-san), original authored by popular novelist Higashino Keigo-san. It is since four years ago “Kamisama no karute 2” that Sakurai-san takes leading role, and it is the second time he works with Director Miike since the hit movie “Yatterman” (2009) which scored a 3.14 billion yen box office.

The original novel is a commemorative work published in May 2015 celebrating Higashino-san’s debut 30th anniversary. It is the second time Sakurai-san performs Higashino-san’s work, the first time was NHK drama “Tokio Chichi e no Dengon” (2004). “My heart pounds for many ‘since long time’”. This time 12 companies competed for the copyrights of filming this work and Toho won.

The scriptwriter is Yatsu Hiroyuki-san who wrote dramas reflecting social phenomena like “Naoki Hanzawa” (TBS, 2013, original author Ikeido Jun-san), this movie gathers various hit-makers.

Sakurai-san acts a university professor of earth science·Aoe Shusuke. The character investigates two consecutive suspicious death incidents at a strange hot spring, trying to find out the truth. With expectation on Director Miike’s work “Many staff in this crew also worked in “Yatterman”, I savour the joy of being able to be same members again”, the filming started with the aim of making a new hit work.

The filming started crank in at Kanto suburban. The co-cast includes Hirose Suzu-san (18) and Fukushi Sota-san (23). Director Miike also has confidence “there is no way it isn’t interesting”. Sakurai-san also said “I want to make a “big chemistry” with Director and everyone of co-cast at the filming site”. It is Sakurai-san’s first time acting a professor. While he is active in works of artist and caster, he would also demonstrate his excellence in acting work stimulated by the two co-acts with whom he works for the first time.

♥ it’s time to spread your podcast pallet ♥

A very happy and hot July day to all of you audio drama fanatics out there! There’s so much to look forward to during the summer: the beach, the barbecues, and the bountiful amounts of free audio drama seeking out new listeners to tell their stories to.

Strap on and dive in, saddle up, and stay Scottish if you haven’t already because my selection will keep your summer’s filled with the most delightful sounds available.

Looking for something fresh to please that sudden thirst for audio storytelling? Look no further as PodCake has six more podcasts you’ll certainly love.

1. A Scottish Podcast

When washed up radio DJ Lee finds himself “between jobs” he decides to launch a paranormal investigative podcast series, inspired by the likes of The Black Tapes, The Message, and Limetown. Enter The Terror Files. Aided by his long suffering sidekick, struggling musician Dougie, the pair embark on their first investigation - by heading down into a newly uncovered vault underneath Edinburgh’s old town.

Comedy and horror is a combination I barely see in audio drama and A Scottish Podcast is the answer to just how well the two can combine. With our host Lee, we get a look into a protagonist that functions his own show, providing some fascinating insight into the woes of audio drama management…albeit with some more supernatural elements sprinkled in.

For those who enjoy more adult humor, A Scottish Podcast is guaranteed to give you your fill of tasteful yet vulgar comedy all wrapped up with some genuine heart and dedication to producing a one of a kind podcast.

2. The Haven Chronicles

The Haven Chronicles follows the mysterious events that have unfolded on Haven.

Step into the Haven and the Haven chimes back with a fascinating sci-fi adventure story. This follows the mission of a group of soldiers responding to a distress beacon from a backwater planet and getting a little more than they bargained for in the process.

Complete with some excellent acting chops, atmospheric sound editing, and a gripping tale containing an underlying mystery, suspense, and just the right amount of comedy, The Haven Chronicles delivers and is bound to be a fun ride.

3. Wynabego Warrior: The Tale of John Waynnabe

A modern day old west tale, wrought with peril and danger, redemption, and renewal. The tale of a man determined to find the old west that he remembers from the silver screen of his youth.

A very overdue recommendation on my part though Wynabego Warrior, one of many shows in the works by Audioblivious Productions, is the western podcast you never thought you were missing from your feed.

A unique contender drawing inspiration from old fashion cowboy tales, our lead John Waynnabe pursues a journey of self discovery with some bumps in the road as he finds both friends to stick by his side and foes interrupting his happy trails.

4. Spines

Two months ago, Wren woke up covered in blood, suffering from memory loss, and surrounded by the remnants of some strange cult ritual. SPINES is the story of her search for answers, and the deadly, powerful people she encounters along the way.

We’re all due for a summertime scream fest and Spines is here to deliver. With our lead Wren acting as narrator, we follow them through a twisted tale filled with all the icky, eerie details we seek in the best of horror podcasts.

If you’re eager to learn about bloody attics and creepy cults and can’t get enough delightfully gory mysteries, Spines will grant you a very spine tingling listening session.

5. MarsCorp

From the creators of The Bunker podcast - MarsCorp is a 12-part scripted comedy podcast about Station Supervisor E.L. Hob’s first year at MarsCorp, a terraforming colony established on the red planet in 2070.

From the same minds behind the audio drama original The Bunker by Definitely Human, we have a sci-fi serial comedy for those looking for stories on Mars beyond The Penumbra

For fans of Wolf 359 dreading the beloved show’s conclusion, MarsCorp is a fresh and intriguing selection that is sure to give you that right fill of comedy and tragedy in a delightfully fun and futuristic setting.

6. Under Pressure

A near future podcast about life aboard the underwater research station Amphitrite featuring deep sea scholars, love, oblique literature references, and chaotic neutral kraken.

Now diving twenty thousand leagues into a fresh podcast published this year. Those who may like aquatic themed tales such as The Bridge and Passage may find some common sea ground here as Under Pressure dives into the audio logs of Rebecca, a member aboard station Amphitrite alongside crew mates seeking information about the deep mysteries of oceanic life.

One part survival story of both the dark depths of the ocean and survival boredom from being in said position, Under Pressure promises light comedy and sea creatures that will hopefully make listening something more sweet than salty.

now, get to listening.
