concept: a stormy night at hotel dumort, rain beats down upon the roof like the sound of tap dancing, simon is rambling about cheesy nicholas sparks movies and raphael is in love. he’d made an attempt at reading (his arm around the fledgling) and surrendered when simon’s eyes lit up at his mumbled, “why would someone make a movie about an actual notebook?”
The interesting thing about the Hogwarts Houses personality theory, from where I’m standing, is that it seems to be based on motivation, rather than what’s strictly considered by the academic world to be personality traits. (It’s interesting because motivation is considered fairly changeable by personality researchers, while traits are more fundamental/biologically based and hard to change. Makes Dumbledore’s I sometimes think we sort too soon that more plausible. And painful.)
Anyway, let me give this a go:
Gryffindors are motivated by what they believe is Right. They’ve got a very clear idea of justice, of the way things should be, and if that isn’t the case they are willing to fight for it. Gryffindors have principles. They will go to war over the things they believe in. But this also means they might just as well become fundamentalists. As someone put it, a gryffindor will happily fuck you up if they believe they’re doing the Right Thing.
Huffepuffs are motivated by loyalty. They put personal relationships above abstract ideas. Huffelpuffs will follow you into battle not because they believe in what you’re saying, but because they are your friend. On the other hand, this may also lead to a my master right or wrong kind of situations, where they stop thinking about moral principles and just trust the person they’ve chosen as a friend.
Ravenclaws are motivated by rationality. They value cold logic and hard facts, and are unlikely to be swept along by passionate speeches or emotional pleas. They’re the type to consider the benefits and disadvantages for all when making decisions. Again, this can be potentially scary, because -for example- Ravenclaws would kill you without any hesitation if they believed it could prevent the death of others.
And finally, Slytherins are motivated by self-interest and ambition. They’re moral relativists, who don’t believe in the great Right or Wrong (the way Gryffindors very strongly do) and wouldn’t hesitate to do things others would consider morally wrong as long as it’s in their advantage. Sounds evil, but it isn’t necessarily so: it means just as much that a Slytherin can be charming and loyal - being hated and despised isn’t exactly a good thing, is it? It all depends on what kind of ambitions they have - and how smart they are, of course.
Seen like that, Ravenclaws and Slytherin are quite close to each other, both being cold rationalists, with the difference that Ravenclaws think firstly of the good of all, while Slytherins think firstly of the good for themselves. And Hufflepuff and Gryffindor are quite close too, both led by their emotions, but while Gryffindors are loyal to ideas of right and wrong, Hufflepuffs pledge their allegiance to people they believe to be worth following.
Put shortly: Gryffindor: belief in ideas; Hufflepuffs: belief in people; Ravenclaw: belief in rationality; Slytherin: belief in themselves.

Even though Fairy Tail has disbanded and everyone is off doing their own thing, I’m still tagging all Fairy Tail members with ‘guild’ and their respective teams (i.e. team natsu, raijinshuu). This is mostly for organizational purposes, but also because they’re still Fairy Tail mages. *pouts*
Yes, even Gray - though I have added ‘avatar’ to his tag list. *sigh*
Ok- the short answer. Hamilton is a new Broadway musical about Alexander Hamilton (the founding father (without a father), on the $10 bill) that uses hiphop/ rap musical stylings.
Shorter answer- it is a life ruiner.
Actual, real answer.
Hamilton is this truly amazing musical that uses hiphop and rap music to tell the story about founding father Alexander Hamilton. it breaks almost every rule about what can and can’t be done on Broadway, starting with the one that says that you can’t tell a moving historical piece with hiphop.
it also barrels directly over any sort of conventional casting. all the actors are chosen exclusively based on their ability to perform the role. That’s it.
Now, you’re going “What the fuck? A play about the founding fathers done in hiphop/rap? WHY?” Which is fair. It’s a shift in mindset.
Now, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the script and the lyrics and the score and also played Hamilton, has talked about it more articulately than I can but in short, because Alexander Hamilton embodies everything that is exemplified in the modern hip-hop artist narrative- he was born into poverty, an immigrant to the US (oh boy, the way that racism plays into this narrative is huge and amazing, so much love.) He pulled himself out of poverty through nothing but the power of his own writing and his ability to get people to listen to him. This is a narrative that is seen most often in the hiphop and rap communities.
Not to mention the fact that Miranda described hiphop as the beat of the revolution. Now, I loved this production because I have a hard time getting into interpretations like John Adams. Like, if you think that these angry revolutionary assholes weren’t yelling their opinions at one another at top volume, with personal digs mixed equal parts with legitimate political points, then you have been missing out on some of the best parts of history. People have always been people, passionate, angry, loud. just because they had stupid ass powdered wigs doesn’t change that.
The music is amazing. I cried. Literal, shoulder-shaking sobs. And if you go into the Hamilton tag, you’ll see that pretty much everyone has their own list of favorite moments. Because there are so many little, tiny details that make this such a fantastic production.
Everyone is real, human, fallible but relatable. seriously, this is the plot of a greek tragedy, the rise and fall of a hero who has his own fatal flaw that is equally tied into his greatest strength.
Plus, every cabinet debate plays like a best of epic rap battles of history.
FINALLY, Miranda is a huge giant nerd. lIKE, WOW, WHAT A NERD, i love it. there are so many historical fun facts and call backs. The music references other musicals, the amount of historical detail in this play. And there are parts where this nerd fucking breaks the 4th wall because you have to know that this part isn’t even a joke it is actually historical fact and he just needs you to know that.
Also alexander hamilton himself in this is SUCH A NERD. SUCH A TINY ANGRY NERD. 90% of this play is him going “FIGHT ME!”
so, do yourself a favor and go listen to a two hour hiphop saga of Alexander Hamilton.
