every time i draw him he looks so different

Another MTG fanart :)
I started the sketch when I read the MTG story chapter where Jace
created an illusion of Ravnica, and today I finally had the time to finish it!
(Also - thanks for that super mean cliffhanger this week.)

anonymous asked:

for starters; I don't mean this in any negative way. I noticed you draw deku slightly different every time. Is there a specific reason why?

It’s mostly because I’m trying to get a feel for his character. I’ve been experimenting with him in my style to see which one fits the image im imagining for him

A great example is my first ever bnha fanart of deku to my most current fanart:

Obviously it was my first time drawing him so in the first picture he looks really forced and stale. Even though it was deku, it didn’t really look like deku. Then to my current deku the picture fits more of his character; rounded cheeks, defined freckles and chunky, messy hair. Plus my color choices for him in the beginning were grossly yellow and lackluster. Now he’s a lot more vibrant and full of life and character!

In ur opinion what r Jensen and Misha's best angles

i’m not an expert on misha’s appearance and i don’t want to piss off the misha stans so i’m only gonna answer about jensen and probably piss off the jensen stans

this is his best angle

shot toward his left side, with his head either angled a little bit down (first gif) or a little bit up (second gif)

with jensen, it’s all about his nose, ears and jaw.

if u get him head-on, his ears pull focus away from his face. (i mean, they’re cute as shit, but u get what i mean.)

when it’s shot toward his right side with his head tilted up, his nose looks extra thin and pointy, also pulling a bit too much focus. however, this is definitely the best angle for that magic jawline and with making his chin look more defined.

shots toward his right side also make him look 10x more masculine than he does from his left. it’s because of the way his nose curves. from his left, it looks like it curves up in a cute little point. from his right, it looks like it curves down. i prefer the more feminine angle, and it seems spn does, too, because most shots are toward his left. (go watch the episode misha directed. every fuckin shot of dean is toward his left side. same, misha. same.)

evidenced most obviously in his selfies, jensen ackles……has no chin. or a lot of chins. it’s hard to tell which. in selfie angles, his face kind of just disappears into his neck and makes it look like he doesn’t have a jawline. now, i’m all about a pudgy chin and soft jaw, but i’d prefer jensen’s face not to bleed into his neck like in these selfies.

his jawline is a mystery even to me and is really more dependent on how he moves his face than what angle the camera is. however, there is obviously a major difference between this

where he has no defined jawline whatsoever and looks very soft

and this

which u can cut a loaf of bread with.

i think the reason why i’m so drawn to jensen’s face is because, to me, it looks completely different from every goddamn angle. he could move his face half an inch to the left and i’d gasp in shock at how different he looks. i’d say he doesn’t really have a bad angle, but i definitely prefer some of his angles over others.

(all gifs are from season 9 to avoid a major difference in age or haircut.)

anywa,, listen, ,, heres the best thing i have ever made

Solas stays warm in his turtleneck.

Day 3 of Modern Solas Month! A thing I made up yesterday, lol. Send me outfit prompts if you want to see Solas wearing certain contemporary clothes.

Headcanon that, like many children, Peter once drew a picture of his family for school, and ended up feeling a bit awkward that he couldn’t draw his daddy (because he hadn’t known his daddy, right). So that’s the main reason why he started telling everyone that David Hasselhoff is his Dad.

Later, in space, Peter only once, just once, after having a particularly bad nightmare, after finding solace in the middle of the bridge and having gotten to play around with Yondu’s trinkets under the Capt’n’s watchful gaze, after Oblo and Tullk had tried to cheer him up with bawdy jokes and Kraglin offered to spend time with him until he fell asleep, he draws another picture.

This time, there is a stick figure called “Me”, a figure with great details and a bright smile called “Mum”…

… and a colorful array of figures named after the different Ravagers.

(Peter hides the drawing carefully, fearing they would laugh at him for something so silly, but it ends up cheering him up every time he pulls it out from under his mattress to look at it.)

Smile :) Be happy! :D

Finally drew a smile I approve of after several bad attempts XD I don’t know why but I just had to add dimples lol~

This was originally meant to be apart of that mini comic I last posted. But it was getting way too long and I ran out of time so… no thanks! :P The rough idea was– a drunk Mo Guan Shan says “Happy New Year” with a huge smile and that broke He Tian. Jian Yi and Zhan Zheng Xi was there, making remarks about the whole situation like “his plan totally backfired lol.”

saltpeter-for-gunpowder  asked:

How do you draw Burn Gorman's face and make it actually look like him? You do it so well and every time I try he just looks like a creep.

This is the greatest compliment I have ever received, because Burn Gorman is a shape-shifter who looks different in every picture and I have no IDEA what his face is doing half the time. Honestly, there are tons of artists who draw him better than I do. Nonetheless: thank you.

I don’t know how to help with the creepy, but in my experience, making someone recognizable is less about getting every detail right and more about figuring out which details to get right. In other words: 1) identify their MOST MEMORABLE features, and 2) exaggerate those features to hell and back. Even a really simple sketch can be recognizable if you reduce to the most distinctive or unusual parts of the person’s face.

Burn’s face, of course, is a trip. Let’s see what we can tell from a quick trace.

The blue lines are just the basic guide I use for every face: a smooth ovoid shape with a couple guides. Comparing that simplified shape to the way Burn’s actual features fall on top of them, the most significant things I see are:

  • CHEEKBONES. Oh, the cheekbones. Regard how nobly they jut beyond the edges of the guide, whereas his jaw falls more or less along the guide but is much more square. Don’t underestimate that jaw.
  • Although his jaw has some heft, however, his chin comes to a sharp point. So overall, I’d say his face has what I often see described as a “shield” or “heart” shape.
  • See that line to the side of his mouth? The line going from cheekbone to chin? What a weird line! INCLUDE IT. Seriously, it’s so recognizable and so good for keeping the facial anatomy lined up.
  • Mouth: wide. Upper lip: flat. More on that in a sec.
  • Crow’s feet and circles beneath his eyes, especially when he smiles (his eyes go very squinty and crinkly when he smiles). It’s not as visible in this pic, alas, but there also tends to be a distinct line/shadow that curves down from the inside corner of each of his eyes toward his cheekbones.

In light of all this, in even my most simple line drawings, I:

  • Push out those cheekbones. Make them sharp enough to kill.
  • Make the line from cheekbone to jaw, then from jaw to chin, slightly concave, so that his jaw juts a bit but his chin hits a point.
  • Slash his mouth across his face in a flat, unrealistically wide line.
  • Mark his cheekbones, the lines beneath his eyes, and, often, the line from cheekbone to chin.

With more finished pieces, it’s really a matter of preserving those essentials while fleshing out additional details. You can also rely more on shading to emphasize his bone structure (e.g., highlight on his cheekbones and shadow in the hollow of his cheeks), though I tend to keep line art as well:

Otherwise, when it comes to fleshing out details, I think the most important one is his mouth. Everyone knows Burn’s mouth is a bit … well, I’ve seen fic describe it as “froggy.” It’s beautiful, but it’s definitely one of his more unusual characteristics.

WOW that is an unsettling closeup. Um. Sorry about that. But what I want you to notice about this pic is that his upper lip:

  • Has a rather broad philtrum (the groove between the points of his lip’s Cupid’s bow) with a shallow, gradual curve.
  • Is pretty much the same thickness near the middle as it is at the outside corners. On some people’s mouths, the lip looks thinner at the outside corners and widest at the points of the philtrum, creating that recurve bow shape. Burn’s lip is pretty even throughout.

His smile is a whole nother can of worms, with a shape that I struggle to capture and to describe, but you can see in this one how I’ve followed the general principles above — a wide and shallow philtrum, with the upper lip still thick when it hits the outside edge of his mouth:

Of course, Burn is a shape-shifting alien man, so a lot changes from angle to angle. Front views emphasize the squareness of his jaw, while three-quarter views soften the jaw and emphasize the point of his chin instead, making his face seem longer and narrower overall. In profile, you can see that his whole jaw / mouth / chin area sort of of juts forward — which can also make his mouth look pushed forward in three-quarter views (as in the photo below) — and that his nose is short, triangular, and slightly upturned.

Note that I totally screwed up Burn’s nose in that drawing with Bucephalus, by the way. I mean, I screw up his nose in new and fascinating ways every time, but this one is really something. The bridge is way too convex.

Honestly: I mess up Burn’s face so much. I never draw his eyebrows the same way twice, his nose is different in literally every drawing pictured here, and I didn’t even bother tracing his eyes earlier because I usually go pretty stylized on those. But for me, that’s the point. I’m not trying to be photorealistic. What I’m trying to do is to make a caricature of the features people notice most about him — the ones we go on about in fanfic: the Cheekbones from Heaven; the froggy mouth. That way, my hope is that the end result will capture something so quintessentially Burn that viewers think, “Oh, Burn Gorman!” when they see it … Even if so many other details are wrong.

I could probably spend forever dissecting this guy’s face, but I reckon I should stop before I get any more boring and/or creepier. I hope this is at all helpful to you in your art! ❤

anonymous asked:

hey!! i love your art and art style so much!!! i wanted to ask if you have any tips on drawing breakdown? (i really want to draw kobd but breakdown is a hard one :( )

ooooh thank you so much! when i first started drawing transformers i was very into cartoons, so i draw them very round and simplified.

what works for me is drawing the headband first for his face, and whatever direction the kitty ears take for the head to follow. sideways head and chest is like a pentagon shape. the arms are the hardest for me, they just don’t bend well but his tire shoulders ought to tilt back and forth depending on the arm’s placement. honestly every time i draw him he looks very different. good luck ;;;;;;;

Request 16- Babysitting
I placed the phone back in my pocket as I skipped down the hall towards the kitchen where I left Dan.
“You’re happy, what’s happened?” He joked in response to the bright smile on my face. I told him about agreeing to babysit Darcy while Louise was at a meeting and his face dropped.

“Come on Daaaan, it’ll be fun!” I whined, he knew how much I loved Darcy so I didn’t see what his issue was.

I opened the door to see a small, giggling bundle of joy and Louise infront of me. Crouching down to her size, I smiled and pinched Darcy’s nose. The two of us giggled some more before she went running up to Dan. Louise and I followed, talking about how excited Darcy was.

“Okay so you know what needs to be done and how to look after her. I’ll be back at around 5” Louise smiled before walking down the stairs to the door “be good for y/n and Dan” she told Darcy before leaving.

Dan had gone to get changed into his sweats while I sat with Darcy watching  ‘The lion guard’. The six foot man came back into the room to see the two of us giggling at him and Phil who had voice overs in the episode we were watching.

I lifted Darcy onto my lap and glanced up at Dan to see him looking down at the two of us, smiling from ear to ear. He hadn’t bothered straightening his hair so his small hobbit curls remained.

I leaned forward to whisper something to Darcy, suspicion flooding Dans face. Her blue eyes lit up as she screamed at the top of her voice.
“Do you want Dan to help us?” I asked, Dan still completely confused.

Before I knew it, Darcy was tugging at Dans leg for him to crouch down to her height.
“Daaaan” she began, her hands tangled in his hair “do you want to bake cookies with us?” She finished with a small giggle.

The three of us made our way to the kitchen where I kept my recipe books. Darcy made her way over the the one named ‘cookies and cakes’ and began turning the pages. As she looked through the book I bought her soft blonde hair into a small bun ontop of her head. I looked up to Dan as I did the same with my hair. He smiled back at me before wrapping his arms around me and resting his head on mine; both of us looking over at Darcy who was still searching for her favourite recipe.

Dan read out the ingredients as Darcy and I weighed and stirred. After 30 minutes of complete giggling we had the cookies in the oven for another 10 minutes. I beckoned Darcy over to me while Dan was putting things away; the bag of flour in my hand. My index finger went to my lip to shush her as I walked behind Dan. My hand, full of flour, went to his hair and released the flour over his head. Darcy started giggling as Dan turned to look at us.  I joined Darcy’s giggling as Dan realised what I had done.

Before I had any concept of what was happening the oven was beeping, notifying us of the cookies. I bought them out of the oven and turned it off. Turning around I saw three of us where covered in flour; Dan had most of it in his hair.

“Now the cookies are done, I think the three of us need to go clean up” I said in a slightly strict manner. Dan agreed and began walking towards the bathroom. “And you missus” I smiled at Darcy who was sulking at me. “Listen, Mommy’s going to be mad of she comes to pick you up and you’re covered in flour” I smiled.

We reached the bathroom where I began to wipe the flour off Darcy and he clothes. Dan stood in the door way; ever time I looked up at him he was smiling down at me.

When the flour was finally gone we made our way to the bedroom where I got Darcy’s spare clothes from my draw. No one else knew about the clothes I bought for her so both of them stood with different expressions on their faces.

Soon all three of us where sat on the sofa watching Disney movies. Dan sat in his usual corner while I cuddled up to him. Darcy sat in the small gap between our legs, singing to every disney song that played. Every now and then I felt Dan leave a kiss on the top of my head, causing my smile to widen.

I looked up to him and we joined lips in a small kiss while Darcy coninued singing.
“I love you” he whispered as I leaned back into him.

How would 2D react to having a S/O that was kinda ditzy but was a really great at painting and art?

  • He probably wouldn’t mind at all or think that you’re any less intelligent. He totally understands how you feel due to the fact that he’s always labeled as the dullard of the group.
  • The two of you communicate easily with one another and can talk about almost anything for dayz. i need to be stopped
  • When you show him your paintings and works, he’s!! so!! amazed!!! He goes through all your pictures and wants all of them hung up on every wall in his bedroom.
  • He spends a lot of time watching you paint or draw. He thinks you look absolutely beautiful while doing something you enjoy.
  • Sometimes he joins you and sits near you and writes down possible song lyrics while playing some tunes on his infinite amounts of keyboards.
  • One day, you start drawing cartoon band members and the two of you come up with an idea to create a cartoon band that experiments with different types of music but before either of you can go anywhere further with it, Jamie’s giant eraser from the heavens erases the both of you from existence. Jamie drops the pencil in disgust, before whispering: “There can only be one…”
