every girl is the end of the world

anonymous asked:

Why is Romeo and Juliet misunderstood?

the tragedy of it isn’t that it’s a romance and they’re starcrossed lovers or whatever, it’s that children kill themselves because they hate the world they live in that much. plays and movies and stuff usually have much older actors play them (that’s how you automatically know the people making it don’t understand the play), but romeo and juliet are only like 13-15 years old

when the play opens, verona’s in the middle of a blood feud between these two families that’s been going on so long they don’t even know why they’re fighting anymore, they just blindly hate each other and are willing to kill just because their parents are like “yeah, those people? we hate them.” people are always like “romeo and juliet are so stupid, they got all these people killed” but like. no, the feud between the families started way before either of them were even born. people were already dying all the time because of this nonsense feud, nothing changed when these two kids started sneaking around together

when romeo is introduced he’s completely in love with some other girl, rosaline. he’s talking about her the way he later talks about juliet. that’s the whole point: he’s a dumb innocent kid in love with every girl he sees, not at all concerned about the blood feud and hatred his parents and older friends are so preoccupied with. part of the importance of romeo and juliet being so young is that ~the world hasn’t corrupted them yet~

in the end, they both kill themselves because 1) they are literal children making rash decisions, but also 2) they see each other as the only good thing in the world, a world where people kill each other in the streets and don’t even know why. that is why the play’s classified as a tragedy, not a romance

after they’re dead, the two families come together and are like “ok wow holy shit why are we like this” and the deaths of these two children are what end the feud. for generations, a whole lot of people died because of this ignorant hatred and it all only fueled the conflict. like “we don’t know why they hate us or we hate them, but they killed x person so let’s go kill y person” back and forth forever. then, two children die for love (not necessarily what we define as romantic love, though romeo and juliet saw themselves as that) and that is what ends all the bloodshed. the deaths of innocents made the adults look at themselves in horror and wonder why and how they let this happen and realize they were the reason

if shakespeare intended for it to be about an actual romance (the way it is commonly interpreted), then the main characters would’ve been adults like in all his other stuff. the feud wouldn’t be as important or even mentioned after setting up the story. the tragedy is, as stated above, that children kill themselves because their world is so hateful and they saw no other options

i would say that i’m surprised society fetishizes pre-teens killing themselves and takes a story about the damage blind hatred has on young people and turns into a mindless romance, but.

The girl who laughs too loud. Oh god, you could tell her to shut up before she even starts but there’s something about that high pitched laugh. It’s not a pretty laugh but it’s a laugh you’ll remember.

The girl who smiles all the time at literally everything, who practices it in the mirror at night when everyone’s asleep or in the middle of the day when no one’s really paying attention to her.

The girl who journeys alone. She’s not ugly, but she’s not beautiful. It makes her feel worthless sometimes, like love will never come her way like she expects it to on a midnight train. She wants the full experience, the love letters and chocolates and the lifetime together until you’re old and senile. She’d be the best girlfriend. She would be all in.

The girl who breaks her own heart from time to time right on schedule. At least once every month, there’s one bad thought. Or a bad encounter with a friend or a good cry that feels like the end of the world.

The girl who thinks she’s the only one who is different and that no one else could possibly understand her. She can’t wait to go to New York and do New York things. Maybe a little Paris too.

This girl paints pictures in her mind everyday, to the point where it feels like she’s actually seeing them first hand. This girl is worth every single page.

Reveal Shenanigans

Mild AU where Gabriel finds out that his son is Chat Noir, and Adrien finds out that his father is Hawkmoth. This causes Gabriel to reconsider somewhat, as his primary motive is still family. He’s no longer trying to take his son’s Miraculous–but he hasn’t given up being Hawkmoth.

Why? Because neither of them knows who Ladybug is yet. And Gabriel knows that his son is in love with her.

Every Akuma becomes a love akuma. Ladybug and Chat Noir keep ending up in compromising situations or forced dates or needing to kiss each other and poor Adrien is just going insane, because his father is leveraging his abilities as a supervillain to SET HIS SON UP ON DATES and oh my god it’s the most embarrassing thing in the world. Ladybug has no idea what’s going on, poor girl is so confused, why are all of these Akuma such obsessed LadyNoir shippers and why does Chat keep screaming in embarrassment every time a new one tries to set them up?

tips all students need

1. learning is better than knowing. you don’t need to be a genius to do well in school, only dedicated enough to actively pursue your education.

2. straight A’s =/= intelligence. don’t let your grades define you; test grades can’t capture the passion in your eyes and the resilience in your bones.

3.  friendships change, but sometimes that's a good thing. some relationships are bested by time, and people grow apart. in the absence of others, you may find that you’ve been missing out on what’s been right in front of you the entire time.

4. rest is important. your health is always more important than school. while stress is inevitable, never be afraid to take a day off, or talk to a trusted adult. Mental health is just as valid as physical health.

5. your life is just beginning. i know that failing test grade or the fact that your crush rejected you seems like the end of the world, but i promise you that it’s not the end. life is literally the longest thing any of us will experience, so fall in love with living. think of every opportunity as just another beginning.

some fox hcs bc i’m sick and it’s all i’ve been thinking about:

  • when they have movie nights, allison and matt have a competition to see who can catch more popcorn in their mouths. allison always wins so matt just throws popcorn at her without even letting her catch it
  • they all go team grocery shopping after finding out neil has never had at least 50% of the junk food they all grew up on
  • renee takes up crocheting and makes them all fox print patterned socks. they wear them every movie night(even andrew)
  • nicky gets homesick sometimes and when he does he makes a lot of the traditional dishes his mom would and the foxes eat all of it even though they literally saw nicky chopping raw jalapenos earlier
  • allison and dan are real housewives fanatics and they will kill a man to get to the tv. kevin still has the scars on his arm from where allison nearly clawed his arm off for trying to change the tv
  • the foxes do charity dog washing at a nearby pet shelter and neil literally almost gets smothered by the biggest dog there and that’s when the foxes find out neil is the biggest dog magnet
  • nicky makes the mistake of teaching andrew to bake and he never leaves the kitchen. but the tower always smells like vanilla so that’s a bonus
  • neil cannot cook for shit and i’m standing by this until i die. he tried making cup noodles in the dorm microwave and matt came back to a small fire and a calm neil just watching the fire blaze
  • neil twists his ankle falling down some stairs and matt uses this as an excuse to bridal carry him everywhere
  • “do i even weigh anything to you?”  “no, it’s like holding a couple of grapes.”
  • allison and neil take exactly 5 hours every saturday to go shopping, get facials, gossip. allison has video proof of neil sitting on a lounge chair with his whole face covered in a cucumber face mask, sipping lemon water, and getting his nails done. he looks right into her camera and in the most deadpan voice says “ah yes, the bourgeoisie.” the video ends with allison snickering and dropping her phone
  • whenever anyone is late to practice they have to go on a run with neil and every time they fall behind is a lap they have to do at the next practice. no one is late again after kevin comes back from a run and passes the fuck out
  • the foxes went to disney world once and lost andrew. they don’t speak of it ever again.
  • matt when asked by some sexist reporter why he listens to what the girls tell him to do: dan’s my girlfriend, renee could kill me, and allison has enough dirt on me to ruin my life until i die. also i respect them more than your crusty ass so that’s there as well. next question?
  • (matt isn’t allowed to do press duty for the next week after that)
  • kevin, five drinks in and nearing tipsy: if renee ever became a villian we’d all be screwed
  • the rest of the foxes except for renee and andrew: AMEN
  • casual cheek kisses are a thing among the foxes but no one kisses neil around andrew unless they want to lose a toe
  • it isn’t a question if whether or not a drunk kevin has acidentally called andrew “aaron”, it’s whether or not kevin actually made it out alive
  • nicky matt, and neil all have a shared exasperation for White People Food
  • neil and renee have been banned from nearly evershopping center within 50 miles of palmetto bc they wouldn’t stop throwing the knives to test how sharp they were

I fell in love with my bestfriend.
But he didn’t chase me. He had his doubts about me. Means he is careful about who he lets into his life.
He didn’t whisper sweet nothings to my ears. But he will always answer my phone calls.
He doesn’t parade our relationship on social media.  I am not his shiny new toy. I am his hidden gem.
He doesn’t put me first. He has his parents, his beautiful nieces and nephew, his siblings, his health, his life.
He wasn’t jealous if I talk to my peers or work with other guys, he lets me grow. He didn’t care that I had 2 million followers. He knows all the 10 real friends I have and their names.
He can’t remember the title of my songs, but he remembers his niece’s birthday.
He didnt forgo his friends for me. His friends were there for him when he needed them before i came into his life.
He would never immediately agree to my thoughts. He tells me if im wrong. And when im right, he acknowledges it.

All this time I thought love was all about how a man should profess his love, flowers at my door, letters saying he’s in love, enslaving his entire being to me, but here is this person, who just wants to be sure he is the best man that he can be for himself, his family, and the world. And at the end of the day, he tells me all about it. All these things that he does or does not do, for some reason, he wants to share all of them with me.

And at the end of our every conversation, he lets me know that he loves me too.

I am his best friend. And for that, I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Straight White Boy Problem #999

every time my bros and I get together, we always end up comparing ourselves to one another and, sometimes, it’s really really frustrating!! I don’t care how many insta followers you have! I don’t care how much your new car is that your PARENTS bought for you! I don’t care how many girls you say you hooked up - this ESPECIALLY goes for you KYLE! These comparisons are not good because we pit ourselves against each other just to feel superior over the people that we are closest to! if all of my bros got along and weren’t ignorant, the world would be a lot more peaceful

tony stark, a certified baby-cuddler

everyone needs more tony and babies in their life, right? have a fic. because tony canonically goes to hospitals and hugs babies who need it. (for mobile users, there’s a read-more after a few paragraphs)

Tony Stark isn’t new to kids, not exactly.

He’s always tried to visit paediatric wards when he had a moment, letting the kids play with the armours and telling them stories. He helped Reed and Sue with babysitting, and he remembers Val’s first attempts at building microprocessors. He held a newborn Danielle Cage in his arms and he marvelled at how tiny she was. He’s always glad to help his baby Avengers with homework.

He likes kids. He might never have his own, and he tells himself he’s made his peace with that, but he likes kids and he likes spending time with them, from babies and toddlers to I’m-not-a-kid-anymore teenagers.

And the moments he spends with kids never get any less special.

I love OK KO’s world. The way every character or family of characters seems to fit a pop culture theme. Fighting games, aliens, ninjas, robots, magical girls, power rangers, humanoid plants, hackers, furries, generic RPG enemies, supernatural stuff. It makes the possibility for character designs so open-ended. It’s like the equivalent of an early internet OC forum, with a bunch of people just inserting different characters and themes they like and somehow creating a functioning world together. It’s so fun.

13 Reasons Why controversy

Because the response to 13 Reasons Why has been so controversial, I’d just like to point out some things.

As explained in 13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons, the suicide scene was shown BECAUSE they wanted it to be painful for the audience to watch, as well as the rape scenes. Not because they wanted to be gruesome or inconsiderate, but because it is REALITY for so many people in the world and a lot of people like to pretend these things don’t exist or shield themselves from the reality of it; they ignore it because they’ve never gone through it, so they don’t care so much. So then when they see these scenes, they will be made uncomfortable and see what people are really truly experiencing and that it is not something that should at all be sugarcoated or ignored. IT IS REAL.

Secondly, for those saying it’s disgusting for them to show these scenes, THERE ARE WARNINGS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPISODES THAT SHOW RAPE AND/OR SUICIDE TO NOT WATCH IF IT WILL AFFECT THE VIEWER IN ANY WAY. These warnings are given specifically so that if you are not comfortable watching or believe it would cause a trigger, you should not even watch. So the fact that people are bashing the show for showing these scenes in relation to them being a trigger, the warnings are already made very clear in the beginning. They did take this step to make sure it wouldn’t just pop up and be any sort of triggers. The producers knew very well to be wary of that.
The show also worked with a lot of psychiatrists, psychologists, and leading experts in teen-suicide prevention. Though this still may not be enough for you to think they did everything right, they again did have the warnings. They are very aware that it could cause triggers and put some people in danger, but THAT IS WHAT THE WARNINGS ARE FOR. DO NOT WATCH IF IT COULD DANGER YOU. VIEWER’S DISCRETION IS ALWAYS ADVISED.

THE SHOW WAS NOT CREATED FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. IT IS TO SPREAD AWARENESS FOR ALL THE ISSUES (suicide, rape, bullying) AND POINT OUT HOW LITTLE THE SIGNS CAN BE AND HOW MUCH MORE CAREFUL AND HELPFUL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD NEEDS TO BE TO THE PEOPLE AROUND US. As also talked about in Beyond the Reasons, they want to promote teaching boys the proper ways to approach a girl and gain permission to become intimate with her, always getting the YES to teach boys respect for women. This is very important because as most people know, it has always been extremely hard for rape victims to get help because of the “what were you wearing” “were you flirting” “did you lead him on” “did you directly say no” arguments that are so wrongfully executed—instead, 13 Reasons Why knows that this is an issue, as somewhat shown in the scene with Mr. Porter as he questions Hannah. So in the after show, they speak about how parents need to be teaching their children more about consent and less about just protecting yourself, covering up, etc. They are aware that the real issue is with proper consent, and that is a very important message to get across.

Coming from someone who has battled depression and suicidal thoughts and attempts, I must also point out that EVERY SINGLE PERSON, EXPERIENCES, THOUGHTS, REACTIONS, ETC ARE DIFFERENT. What one person suffering depression thinks may be different than another. Hannah Baker’s story is very unique in many ways yet also extremely relatable in many ways to many, many people and girls around the world. JUST BECAUSE YOUR STORY MAY BE DIFFERENT DOES NOT MEAN HERS IS INCORRECT OR LESS/MORE THAN ANOTHER’S. There are a lot of people who can relate to feeling as though you are NOTHING and of no worth to the people around you, just a burden that only disappoints everyone and makes their lives worse. This is a very real state of being and depression and feeling of complete worthlessness that people can reach in their lives, especially some young teenage girls, like Hannah Baker, and even myself, that will lead to suicidal thoughts, attempts, or completely following through with, like Hannah. They believe the world and their loved ones would be better off without them. Again, as someone who has attempted suicide as a teenager and worked for years to fight depression and overcome it, I can say that while the suicide scene did make me uncomfortable and was extremely painful to watch, I was not offended. I knew of the warning at the beginning of the episode, read it, and continued to watch because EVERYONE HANDLES THESE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. I UNDERSTOOD the purpose of including the scene and making it so graphic and realistic. IT’S REALITY, THIS IS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE EVERYDAY AND IT SHOULD NOT BE SUGARCOATED OR SHIELDED FROM THE WORLD; it needs to be made more AWARE OF by those who like to turn a blind eye to it, but it is exposed WITH WARNING. So again, if some feel as though a scene like this would be a trigger, IT IS ADVISED YOU DO NOT WATCH. Everyone is affected differently and they did not just insert it with no consideration for the affect it could have on those battling the same wars as Hannah.

To say Clay was an easy solution and could have saved Hannah by loving her—no, he could not have saved her by just loving her, that is not what this story is even saying. Hannah does explain at the end of her last tape as she exits the school that some people cared, but she felt it was only mediocre, not enough for her to want to stay and feel NEEDED and truly LOVED. So no, they are not saying Clay could have kept her alive by simply loving her, or that love can save someone, it is much more complex than that. What they are saying is that people can care, but not showing how much they truly care can affect someone in the ways it affected Hannah. It was not just one boy’s love that could have saved her, but the love and care of many people, for them to show that they truly cared about her being alive and DID NOT see her as worthless, an object, just another person on earth. She needed to feel as though they NEEDED her to stay, that they genuinely cared about her as a person and that her life was truly worth something, because she did not feel it was. When Clay says he could have kept her alive if he wasn’t so afraid to tell her he loved her, he simply means he could have given her a sense of hope, a sense of belonging on the earth, that someone truly, whole-heartedly valued her life and her as a human being, not an object.

The actress who plays Jessica also explained that she reached out to a family member who is an actual rape survivor, and she stated that she was pleased that the show was “not shying away from the ugliness” of these scenes because viewers will see what these people really go through–again, another topic that is usually sugarcoated and instead needs to be addressed.

13 Reasons Why is a unique way of telling the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide, and the reasoning for bringing it to screen was MOSTLY to promote awareness and shine light on things that are not talked about enough that the youth suffers every single day, things adults see as “normal teenager struggles,” “small stuff,” “it only feels like the end of the world and really isn’t,” etc. This show is being spread more than even expected, and that is a very good thing for those who are in need of help and have parents or peers that once ignored their problems and will now tend to them.

**an issue cannot be tended to/made aware of/more properly prevented if it is just sugarcoated rather than slapped in people’s faces (those who don’t realize how severe it is) like this show does. it can really change things and leave an impact.

**if you are at risk for triggers and do not feel you are currently healthy enough to watch this show, please take care of yourself and do not watch. or, skip episodes 9, 12, and 13 and read up on them instead. these are the episodes that can be triggers for those at risk, if you weren’t yet aware.

**also feel free to stop by my inbox and talk to me if you need someone to talk to, or just would like to speak more on the subject.

My love,
This isn’t a love letter.
I’m writing this because I can’t love you anymore. And it’s not because I’m selfish and it’s not because I’m broken. It’s not because I don’t want to, because God knows I’d love you forever if you’d let me. We reached the end as soon as you started seeing her as more than just another person. As soon as you took glances at her that were more than just a look. I saw it coming before you even knew it. I watched you begin to love parts of her while you still called me baby. I felt the words “I love you” lose their meaning as they slipped through your mouth as if it were just another sentence. I heard the sound of your voice lose its happiness when you said my name. It starts slow, someone falling out of love with you, and then you wake up one day and it’s all gone. And you don’t know how it happened or where it all went, you just know that the person you love doesn’t love you anymore, and there’s nothing left. You sit there and let it all crumble, right there, right in front of you. And there is nothing you can do to stop it. Because you can’t make someone stay. And you definitely can’t make someone love you. It’s been over a month since you left and I’m still holding onto bits and pieces of us. Whenever I think I’m over you and I’m okay without you, it all comes back and memories of us and images of you and anagrams of your name start flooding my head. And then I’m back to where I started. But this isn’t about the end. This is about my love for you. I still love you. You know that. Anyone could see it. But you love me and then you don’t. It’s there and then it isn’t. Some nights you give me false hope and I truly believe there will be another us again. And then there’s days like today where you shove another girl’s name down my throat and then abandon me completely. And I’ll have to wait and wonder when the next time you’ll decide to love me or just talk to me again will be. I can’t keep letting myself wait for someone that’s never coming back. You’re impulsive. You left impulsively. And you almost came back impulsively. And if you did, I don’t know what I’d do. Because I want you. I want you in every way possible. But as soon as someone more beautiful comes along, someone who says your name in a softer voice, someone who has more curves, a brighter smile, a sexier gaze, you’ll be gone again. Out of impulse. You won’t ever choose to love me every day. You won’t choose to love me even when you don’t want to. You will never choose me. I know that now. I know that you’re my world and I’m just another girl living in yours. I know you won’t be sad without me. I know you don’t let stupid things like love get to you. I hope you know that I’m going to miss you for the rest of my life. My heart is going to ache until the very end. But despite it all, I love you forever. The hardest part is walking away from the only person you wanted to stay. The worst part is knowing that they don’t care that you did. The saddest part is knowing that they’ll never stop you, even though you’d run forever to stop them.
My love, this isn’t a love letter.
This is an, I’m sorry I couldn’t be what you wanted, but I’ll always have dreams in which I could’ve been, letter.
This isn’t a love letter because love letters don’t end in tears.
My rules of running (based on my experience)

1) eat at least 2 hours before running. If it’s something light and carby, it can be less but at least 45 minutes

2) stop drinking water 50-60 minutes before running. It causes cramps

3) 3+ liters of water daily

4) sleep is your BEST friend. Sleep is as/more important than the work you’re doing. You will stay where you are or get worse if you don’t sleep enough, it is the body’s opportunity to rebuild what you broke down during running/training

5) always eat *enough (*= however much until you feel full and satisfied. Try to stick to whole foods and fruit&veggies, but the world won’t end when you eat something processed. Treat yourself often, you deserve it girl!). Also note that your fitness is what’s inside of you and not entirely aesthetic

6) don’t spend too much energy on nutrition. The best athletes have a general guideline of what to eat during training, but you should never restrict yourself if you’re training at a high volume. Or even if you’re not. Just eat freely you’ll feel better while running, guaranteed

7) enjoy every single run. There will be times where you can’t pound the pavement due to injury or something else so never take any run for granted

8) trial of miles, miles of trials. There will be a daily grind that isn’t always glamorous but it’ll always be there and there’s comfort in that

9) workouts are the place to get better. In order to get better, you need to push your body into discomfort. Be honest about what that means to you

10) LEAVE YOUR NEGATIVITY AT THE DOOR. Being negative is a choice, no matter what. Don’t choose it!!!!!

11) trust that process. You’re doing everything you do for a reason. Trust that it WILL get you where you want to go.

12) shitting in the woods is okay and even encouraged!!!

10 Things Johnny has never told anyone…

1. He is awful jealous of Ponyboy, he knows just how much Darry has sacrificed to keep his family together, and Johnny craves to know a love like that.
2. Johnny has tried to kill himself, but he failed each time.
3. His biggest fear is dying young, unloved and alone.
4. Sylvia got him blind drunk to the point that he can hardly remember a single strand of information from the night before, but he woke up as naked as the day he was brought into this world. She used him.
5. Dally found out and boy was he pissed, but never at Johnny. No, he was pissed off at Sylvia, and boy if she wasn’t a girl, he’d have broken every bone in her worthless body.
6. Johnny’s mother cared about her son once upon a time. Until he grew up looking like the man that beat her senseless every single day. She began to hate Johnny with every fiber of her being. She told this to Johnny and he bawled his eyes out.
7. Johnny cried in Darry’s arms for hours on end the night they found him bloodied and broken, he begged Darry not to tell anyone. Darry didn’t utter a word about it.
8. When he was a child he would sit up in the trees and watch all the other little kids that had loving parent’s and he wondered why he wasn’t good enough to have a family like that.
9. The first time he felt love was from someone he didn’t share blood with. Mrs Curtis had been getting quite attached to the small greaser and when he stayed the night she would tuck him into bed right next to Ponyboy and tell them a bed time story, and then she would kiss them both on their foreheads, telling them both just how much she loved and appreciated them.
10. Each Christmas that passed he wouldn’t get a single thing, his parent’s always told him it was because he wasn’t good enough to get a present from Santa Claus.

there were many little moments in this first clip that let us know that this season is going to be very very impactful, and this is one of them

i think most people are at least aware that islamophobia, racism and xenophobia are very present in our society. i think most of skam’s target audience aren’t going to ignore that fact. but the thing is that a lot of people who are aware that these issues exist have never been on the receiving end of that type of discrimination. norway’s population is primarly white, and muslims are a minority, muslim girls of colour an even smaller one,  and i think it’s fair to say that the majority of viewers even outside of skam’s target audience have never been on the receiving end of the type of discrimination sana faces everyday

and the thing about following sana for the next three months, and getting to see the world from her point of view a little bit every single day is that it’s not just reminding the viewers that the type of discrimination she faces exists. it’s doing so much more than that. it’s as though sana is taking the viewer with her, telling them “come, follow me, see what i go through”. and when that lady looks at sana like this, as though she’s doing something wrong simply by existing and choosing to believe in a faith that means so much to her, it’s meant to truly make the viewer feel and understand what it is like to be on the receiving end of those types of stares

this season, skam is not only going to let its viewers know that islamophobia and racism and xenophobia exist, it’s going to show them to what extent they exist, and most importantly make them understand the harmful impact they have on their victims

anonymous asked:

which books with lgbt characters would you recommend?

sorry it took so long anon. in no particular order some of my favourites:

  • aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe by benjamin alire saenz -  one of my fave of favourites. i read it in like 6 hours because i couldn’t put that book down. two mexican boys slowly falling in love with each other, it contains lot of angst, happiness and amazing writing style. (there will be a sequel!!!)
  • ice massacre by tiana warner – this is the first book of a trilogy (i think it will be a trilogy?? so far two books are out, i’m reading the second one still). it’s about an ongoing war between people and merfolks, and a story where one girl falls in love with a mermaid, but before they realize their feelings, they are forced to fight the other species. it’s an amazing book, go read it!!
  • the foxhole court by nora sakavic – trilogy about a boy who runs from his past into a school where he can play his favourite sport exy and where he finds his new friends and family. for the lgbt part - the main character, neil josten is a demisexual (and there is a very beautiful slow burn relationship that i didn’t expect but loved nonetheless), few other (main and minor) characters are also gay. check out some warnings about this series first maybe, because there are some not very nice things happening. (after reading also check out extras from the author here.)
  • magnus chase and the gods of asgard by rick riordan – i loved this series from first line, because the writing style is funny and very easy to read. the story (in two books so far) is great but the characters are making it perfect. in first book we are introduced to a hijabi girl and a deaf elf, and in second book there is a new character explicitly stated being transgender and genderfluid (who is a potential love interest of the main character). i cant wait for the third book!!
  • proxy by alex london – world where wealthy kids have proxy who suffers punishments for their crimes. when knox kills a girl in a car crash, his proxy sid is sentenced to death in his stead. dystopian novel with main poc gay boy who needs to run for his life and during the journey finds out with his help he can bring the whole society to ground. (i recommend to also read the sequel, guardian)
  • a darker shade of magic by v.e. schwab – i really love this series and i cant wait for the last book!! the characters are amazing and the story is epic. the main character kell has magic and can travel between four different londons to where he delivers messages (and sometimes smuggles stuff). in grey london he meets a crossdressing thief lila bard who instist on going with him. about the lgbt characters - kell’s brother rhy is bisexual (maybe pansexual?) and in second book there is more focus on him (and somewhere i read that lila is nonbinary but i cant find if its confirmed)
  • six of crows by leigh bardugo – beautiful and fast paced story, its a duology about 6 teenagers who are hired to steal someone from high security prison for lots of money and alongside the main plot each character is struggling with its own past. its set in a world of author‘s previous books (grisha trilogy) but i was told you dont have to read those for understanding this world, and as i read everything was nicely explained. there are three main relationships, one of them is between two boys, slowly developing during these two books.
  • simon vs the homo sapiens agenda by becky albertalli – two boys from same high school emailing each other with fake names, but falling in love with the other anyway. another amazing book i read in one sitting.
  • captive prince by c.s. pacat – fantasy story about two princes who are  held captive each in their own ways and finding a way through it all together. the characters are so amazing and there is lot of character development and complex world-building with great writing style and i cant even begin to say how much i love these books.
  • the song of achilles by madeline miller – retelling of the iliad about the greek hero achilles. it starts from young age when patroclus and achilles meet, and follows the development of their friendship to something more. you will cry at the end even if you knew from the beginning what will happen.
  • the young elites by marie lu – this one is a bit darker. adelina, the main character, survived a blood fever, that left her with markings and dangerous power. other people who survived this illness are only children, those also with powers formed the young elites, but adelina‘s power is making them cautious of her. one boy from the elite group is a bisexual and at the end of the first book is hinted on a relationship between one of the elite and a queen of neighbouring country which gets more focus in the second book (i still need to read the last book so im not sure what happens next).
  • every heart a doorway by seanan mcguire – im currently reading this book, but theres already a main character asexual girl, and another character is a transboy. Its in our modern world where some children can see a portal to a different world and they spent there some time, go on adventures, learn to fit in that world, but when they come back to our world some of these children want to go back to a place that became their perfect home.
  • carry on by rainbow rowell – some people may say its too similar to harry potter world, but it doesn’t mean its a bad book. there is magic, our modern world, adventure and two boys who think the other hates them, some pining and angst but also funny moments and a happy ending!

(feel free to add to this list, these are just some of my favourites ♥)

The Gang x Irrational Fears

- Dally is afraid of spiders

- “Dal, it’s just a bug.”

- “More like just Satan!”

- Johnny is afraid of things getting in his eyes.

- “Johnny that fell like 3 yards away from you.”

- Johnny rubs his eyes until they’re puffy and he is pleased with the way they feel.

- Steve is so afraid of drowning that if the water starts to back up while he’s showering he has to stop the water and wait for it to go down.

- What the socs did to Pony is Steve’s literal worse nightmare.

- Soda is afraid of being left alone for too long.

- “Just cause Pony is staying the night at Curly’s doesn’t mean you have to go stay with Steve.”

- “But what if the world ends and I’m all that’s left!”

- Ponyboy doesn’t like sirens or horns.

- Every time he hears a train or an ambulance it puts him on edge. Amber alerts are the worse.

- Two-bit might like Mickey Mouse but if he see’s a real mouse he’s on top of furniture screaming like a girl.

- Dallas is good at catching mice bc New York so he teases Two-bit with it.

- Johnny might be a pure bean but hes also a little shit that will actually pet spiders so he puts one on Dally’s arm.

- Darry thought it was hilarious so Dally bought a big ass snake for revenge.

- “You think spiders are Satan but you’re touch that?!”

- “Look into his eyes, Darry. He loves you.”

There were plotters, there was no doubt about it. Some had been ordinary people who’d had enough. Some were young people with no money who objected to the fact that the world was run by old people who were rich. Some were in it to get girls. And some had been idiots as mad as Swing, with a view of the world just as rigid and unreal, who were on the side of what they called “The People." Vimes had spent his life on the streets, and had met decent men and fools and people who’d steal a penny from a blind beggar and people who performed silent miracles or desperate crimes every day behind the grubby windows of little houses, but he’d never met The People.

People on the side of The People always ended up disappointed, in any case. They found that The People tended not to be grateful or appreciative or forward-thinking or obedient. The People tended to be small-minded and conservative and not very clever and were even distrustful of cleverness. And so the children of the revolution were faced with the age-old problem: it wasn’t that you had the wrong kind of government, which was obvious, but that you had the wrong kind of people.

As soon as you saw people as things to be measured, they didn’t measure up.

—

Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett

I’ve been thinking about this passage a lot lately, with Current Events, and how hard it is to have faith in humanity when humanity can be so… well, so awful sometimes. And how many people have had their faith – in people, in their church, in their families – deeply shaken by the election and the rotten underbelly it exposed. And I keep thinking about that last bit – as soon as you saw people as things to be measured, they didn’t measure up.

And I’m trying to wrap my head around to thinking like this, like Vimes, I suppose: faith in the ultimate goodness of humanity is a good thing, but you can’t expect it of people. Believing that people can be better than they are means that you have to accept how people are in the first place. And you have to accept that most of them are not going to live up to your ideal. And you have to believe in them anyway – because so often people just need someone to believe in them in order to rise, and because you have to in order to stay sane, and at the bottom of it, because somebody has to believe in us or we’ll never move an inch.
