even though some things were terrible about the last 2 seasons

The terrible life of Lena Luthor

And why I love her so much and she deserves the world.

First, let’s keep in mind that canonically Lena’s only 24 years old, according to the show’s timeline.

Now, in season 2 Lena was in 12 episodes. During those episodes, she was in danger/manipulated/hurt (physically and emotionally) 37 times.  Specifically, she almost died 8 times and in 5 of those times she was the target. She was hit once and knocked down and kidnapped twice.

Her own bother was the one behind the attempts against her life at the beginning . She was also constantly manipulated and lied to by her mother and later by her new mother figure/mentor. So it’s usually people close to her and people that she cares about  who end up hurting her.

Let’s also remember that the events of season two happened in less than a year! I wonder how she seems so unfazed by all of her trauma. You would think she would at least have some kind of PTSD by now. Then again, this show hasn’t been great at tackling this subject.

Also, from what we’ve seen of season three this trend of her almost dying and getting hurt isn’t going to stop. What does she have to do to get a break?! I think it’s fair to say that Lena seriously needs a therapist and a bodyguard. Also all the love.

Let’s break down everything she’s been through (that we know) and who she is despite all of that. With gifs!

Before National City.

- Her biological mother died when she was four.

- Lionel lied to her and never told her he was her biological father.

- Was given the cold shoulder by Lillian and was constantly manipulated and reminded that she wasn’t a real Luthor.

- The brother she loved turned out to be evil.

- After her brother went to jail and she took over Luthor Corp her boyfriend at the time made her choose between him and her family’s company.

Now, during the show:

1. She was supposed to be on the Venture.

What Went Wrong?

I had an immense amount of hope for season 4 of Skam. And even though from the beginning, I didn’t like some stuff or was suspicious of some plotlines, I decided to trust the people who had previously made three amazing seasons of Skam to make sense of everything and to give us a beautiful and meaningful season for Sana as well.

Now that Sana’s season is basically over, however, I am more resigned to bitterness and accepting the fact that they simply couldn’t deliver. I don’t blame Julie. Not really. I did for a while, but now I just…feel nothing. The rage has worn off and what’s left is this deep sadness that comes from knowing something good has gone bad.

I’m being dramatic though! At the end of the day, it’s just a show and it doesn’t really matter. But for a second there, I thought I was watching something monumental occur; like when I watched season 3. To get a show from the perspective of a poc muslim girl in a European country seemed both risqué and innovative. But the problem with such a never-seen-before/never-explored-before concept is that, you won’t know just how wrong it can go.

For example, they could easily figure out what not to do in season three, by simply watching all the wrong moves other shows had made through the years. While Sana’s season needed delicate and thorough research to first: capture the essence of the culture and background she came from and then secondly: to use it in the fabric of the show in a natural and organic way. They also needed to have space to deal with the daily problems of muslim girls in modern Norway’s society and on top of that all, they had to make no mistakes and create interesting drama through it all.

Looking at it like that, I feel bad for Julie and the pressure she must have been under. I think considering how bad things could have gone…. they went moderately bad. And yet, ironically we can claim it’s the best of its kind because no one else has done anything remotely close to it before, either.

However, I’m not resigned to just accept this as an excuse and forget just how badly things went. Because this looks like a terrible accident to me, and no matter what I do, I find myself thinking things like “if only this part had been different”, “if only they hadn’t done that.”, if, if, if. So I’m gonna rewatch all nine episodes of Sana’s season and attempt to write a piece explaining just what I thought went wrong.

1.The pacing: Perhaps one of the most obvious things that went wrong with this season and that everyone noticed, was the pacing. This piece will be full of bitter nostalgia so let the first one be a callback to the amazing trailer. I will never forget the day we got season four’s trailer after four months of waiting. Everything about it seemed just perfect. Every detail seemed like a symbol, a throwback, a small wink to the viewer: “look! We put that there for you to find!”. And the ultimate message seemed to be that “it’s about to go down” and it will go down in a very complex way, too! A chain reaction! Millions of meta pieces were written. A thousand different takes on the chain of reaction and what each dilemma could be was written. So when the season started, we were all waiting for something to happen. We waited….and waited… and waited… and waited…. We waited for weeks! But what happened was that a tension, thick as butter, just kept on building for five weeks. And then BOOM! All hell broke loose! And yet…and yet nothing had happened yet. We actually had to wait two more weeks for something to really happen and suddenly by the eighth week, everything was resolved again! In short, the plot was one giant anticlimax! The conflict that kept on building to seem like an unavoidable fall out, a tsunami of dramatic interactions, ended up being resolved off screen. The real problem seemed to be the pacing. If the show had built the conflict in three episodes, presented us with the supposed dilemma in episode 3, tried to fix that in episode 4 and had the deeper, real conflict happen in episode 5, then had the after math in episode 6, and started to fix it in episode 7, have the characters figure it out in episode 8 and the resolve it in episode nine, then it would have made sense! Writing it down like that, it almost feels like that’s what happened! But clearly something prevented the cycle from feeling like a natural arc. Which brings us to the second problem:

2.Crowded narrative: So what was Sana’s season about? The imbalance of her Muslim/Norwegian identity? Being a muslim in an atheist country? Falling for a non-muslim boy? Falling out of touch with friends? Jealousy? Anger issues? Making up with family? Getting a Russ buss? What was this season about?

Ignoring the subplots (because there was so many of those I shiver just thinking about them!), there was three main plots for Sana in this season:

1.Finding a balance between her Norwegian identity and the people in that part of her life with the muslim/Moroccan side of her identity and the people in that part of her life.

2.the problem of being a muslim girl falling for a non-muslim boy and trying to keep true to her faith while still trying to not the love go to waste.

3.Finally making the last move in her friendship with girl squad and really being honest with them about her feelings and problems.

However soon these problems morphed into different things entirely:

1.Getting a bus and proving to everyone that she can be a part of this Norwegian tradition like any other Norwegian girl.

2. Trying to let go of the boy who was both unsuitable for her and who her best friend had feelings for.

3.Dealing with the collision of her Moroccan and Norwegian on terms that were not her own.

Each of these plots kept on getting more complicated and more tangled to a point that they were not exactly resolvable. They were instead just forced into a state of equilibrium. Which was anti climactic to say the least!

*sigh* now let’s face the subplots! There were so many subplots! And at one point, it felt like these plots will wrap up in that infamous trailer “chain reaction”. But with the season already over, it’s become abundantly clear that that was never the case!

The subplots as seen from the very first clip on are:

1. Vilde and Magnus’s relationship (initially taken as a way to introduce lesbian Vilde but ending up being about trust and cheating. Resolved in episode eight’s sixth clip)

2.Noorhelm (the most unnecessary unearthing of a clearly failed relationship that somehow got revived again…*whispers*why?! Resolved in Episode nine’s third clip)

3.Balloon squad (Sana’s brother’s group of friends and the most adorable addition to Skam this season. I’m not sure what their conflict was supposed to be but last time we saw them they were pretty happy and content so I guess resolved in the last hei briskeby video) (actually they were there to destroy stigma surrounding poc/muslim boys and trying to create empathy towards them)

4.Getting a bus (resolved in the fifth clip of episode 8)

5.Hvem er Mikael?!(Still a mystery tbh but generally accepted to be the last guy Even tried to kiss…unsuccessfully I might add. Resolved in the last clip of episode 4?!then again in last clip of episode 5 and again in the last clip of episode 7…)

6.Sana and her mother (not really a conflict point but still she started from hiding things from her to telling her stuff. Resolved in the fourth clip of episode 9)

7.Even’s past (I honestly don’t know why this had to be mentioned but whatever. Resolved in the sixth clip of episode 8)

8.Yousana (resolved with an open ending in the fifth clip of episode nine aka Sana’s last clip)

9.Elias (Sana’s brother has issues! He’s drinking, he’s fighting with his mom, he’s rebelling and maybe even questioning his faith. This wasn’t resolved! This was just mentioned and to this day I’m haunted. What is happening with Elias?)

10.PM girls (The true let down of this season. There was no need to make 50% of the 99 girls evil, but nothing we can do about that. Resolved in the fifth clip of episode 8)

11.Vilde (Vilde was acting super weird all season long! From Islamophobic behavior to spreading stuff about Sana behind her back and such. Vilde deserved better because we never saw her acknowledge her wrong behavior but somehow this was already resolved by the end of the fifth clip of episode 8)

12.The syng fight (supposedly a climax for the other plots and subplots but it’s an even bigger mystery than all the plots combined. I don’t know anything about it! Nothing made sense but apparently already resolved by the sixth clip of episode 8)

13.Jamilla and Sana’s friendship (resolved in the fifth clip of episode 7)

14.Hacking and cyber-bulling (resolved by the fifth clip of episode 8)

15.Sana finishing her prayer (resolved in the last clip of episode 9)

I…I just think there was too much happening!

All this aside, this season had one giant problem. Like a zit on the nose. Big, red, angry and full of gross pus. And that is the third problem…

3.Noora: To think I started watching the show for Noora! Oh Noora, Noora, Noora! I am so sick of Noora! The woman, the mirror, the foil, the ever-present heroin of Skam! It was so easy for Eva and Isak to fade into the backgrounds of the seasons that were not theirs but for some unfathomable reason, this is just not going to work out for Noora!

While Noora’s mirror presence in season 3 was dignified and reasonable, the ever-changing mirror/foil/symbol/metaphor/object of hate or jealousy-take your pick-  presence that she had this season was stifling! Present in almost all clips or at least the long clips, with a very tangible presence and a very lingering subplot, Noora mirror-foilingly(!) stole the show from Sana. Here’s how she did that.

In the very first clip of season 4, it’s mentioned that Noora is still not over William while he has apparently moved on to dating a new person. This sets the main plot into action, by girl squad trying to find someone for her to move on with. Which leads to a cute tête-à-tête between her and Yousef. But this is quickly side-tracked by Sana wittingly telling Noora to avoid muslim boys.

So basically, Noora and her boy trouble were the spark that started the season. This later affected other plots such as the Vilde+Magnus one, the Even backstory, Yousana and balloon squad.

Soon after this, we get a long clip in which Noora explained-with a painstakingly slow pace- why she really left William in London. An explanation that nobody needed and that just created the opportunity to restart an old storyline despite it being over for months. Long story short, from trying to help Noora move on to Noora kissing Yousef, from Sana being jealous of Noora to hacking and a lot of tears, basically this whole season was a chain of Sana’s reactions to Noora’s actions. The only plot that was there from the very first clip to the second to last one. The only story that evolved and developed, right beneath our noses while we were busy wondering about more important things like: “whether Sana will ever talk to her friends or not?” (she won’t) or “what the syng fight was about?” (nothing important!) or “what really happened in Bakka?” (What’s Bakka?!) or “Is Vilde lesbian?” (no!) or “will Yousana make it?” (eh…). And while we were busying ourselves with these silly small plots around the season, Noora and her epic romantic adventures were developing steadfastly towards a big climax that was delivered in the last clip of episode 8. A clip that was formerly reserved for a very important and dramatic plot twist in the main’s life.

So while all those never-explored-before plots were all just dismissed, the same old story of Noora got to be the main plot of the season. And that’s fine! But when they said we were getting a Sana season, it just led us to believe Sana would be a bigger part of her own main plotline.

I always thought Sana was the ultimate main for Skam, because in the past three seasons, she was the single character that held a real sway over the plot. She delivered important speeches and pushed the plot in a whole new direction with each of these talks. I thought she was ultimately the character we were meant to get to know. But I was wrong. Because Skam was always about Noora.

4.Bad research: While we all know that the authenticity and uniqueness that is provided in Skam’s plots is curtsey of the interviews they did with actual teenagers and the inspirations they took from their real life experiences; it is undeniable that the main reason season three became such a success was because they sought out the counsel of a professional. While we don’t know if they didn’t really do this for this season, it at least feels like they went in blind to write it. We know they spoke with muslim teenagers, but perhaps it would have been better to try to familiarize themselves with Sana’s situation on a sociological and psychological level as well. Maybe have a religion expert on the show? Or a sociologist who had studied the social disorders that second generation immigrants have to deal with? Someone who could guide them into writing a story that was perhaps a bit more respectful to these children’s experiences rather than a dramatic roller coaster of unexplainable events that led to nothing but drama.

5.Scattered storytelling: The most respectful way to put this is to say that (as mentioned before) since there were too many subplots happening in the season, none of these stories got to be told in a linear way. The stories got told in snippets, set too far apart that plots got lost or complicated simply because they had to wait in line for weeks, to take up where they left off last time we heard about them!

Take Yousana for instance, one week we see them talk, then for a whole week we hear nothing then we see Yousef kiss Noora. Then again we get a clip about Sana moving on but two weeks later, she talks about him again and decides to give it a chance.

For another, Sana’s faith. While initially it seemed as though we might see her practice her faith in some way, to actually normalize Islam, that plot was forgotten half way through the season and only got mentioned again in the very last clip.

Consistency was not the strong suit of this season for sure. Perhaps because this was the last season. Maybe they just ran out of a good way to see things through or to connect the things they wanted to connect.

But no matter how you will try to tell yourself that there was a good reason for the things that happened this season, you can’t deny how unfair this season was to Sana.

Before the season started, there were so many people talking about how a Sana-centered season was “needed” at times like these. But political climate and social anomalies aside, this season not only didn’t help any of those noble causes it was supposed to serve, but also pushed its narrator aside in favor of a more sought after story that only had dramatic value.

It’s never too late to start all over again.

Steppenwolf’s “It’s Never Too Late” is probably the greatest, most poignant song choice they’ve made in years… and it’s entirely possible that it’s actually the most on-point song selection in the history of the show.

There’s quite a bit to unpack here… and not just in the verses that were included, but what WASN’T there is also speaking volumes to me.

A disclaimer: lyric interpretation is often more vague than the interpretation of literature or poetry. Lyrics are a form of poetry, but they also have to be crafted in a way that turns words into instruments. (Vocals are supposed to be an instrument, not obnoxiously sitting on top of the mix like they do in 97% of modern music, but I’ll refrain from ranting about that right now.) They’re often mysterious and deeply personal to the person that wrote them. Sometimes artists will purposely mix the vocals so low that you can’t understand every word. And a million people can interpret a set of lyrics and never land upon the exact meaning that the artist intended.

And that’s okay. Music is an art that can be crafted one way and listened to a hundred different ways. That’s the magic of music, and that’s why I love it (even modern music that I tend to not like).

But let’s go ahead and try and pick these lyrics apart, shall we?

Your eyes are moist, you scream and shout

As though you were a man possessed

Right from the beginning, it’s right on the nose. Dean has been screaming the entire season, and it’s not just about the people he’s lost. As we found out in 13x01, hunting is back to being just a job to him. And as Dean said last season in 12x06 (hi, Yockey), that job “only ends one way.”

It ends in death.

He reestablishes that in 13x03. “This life, hunting, monsters, there’s no joy in it. There’s nothing but pain, horror and death.

From deep inside comes rushing forth

All the anguish you suppressed

As we all know, Dean is the absolute king of suppression. In fact, that’s what he was attempting to do (for Sammy’s sake) in this very episode: avoiding letting himself feel by distracting himself with bullets, bacon, and booze. He hunts, he eats, and he drinks.

But suppression isn’t enough, and now the anguish is spilling over.

Upon your wall hangs your degree

Your parents craved so much for you

This one is a little bit funny in a really terrible way, because Dean got a GED. It is a degree of sorts, but he didn’t graduate from a high school properly because of what John demanded of him – to be a hunter, and to protect his little brother. Last season, Mary blatantly states that hunting is never what she wanted for him and Sam, and she then proceeds to make moves towards creating a world where they wouldn’t need to hunt.

But neither of them ever actually asked what Dean wanted.

And though you’re trained to make your mark

You still don’t quite know what to do

Sam has admitted that Dean is the best hunter he’s ever seen. Dean has essentially been a hunter since the moment his mother died. He was trained to be the best by his father. Dean has all the tools he needs to continue saving people and hunting things, and yet… in this episode, he wanted to die.

Hunting is really the only thing he knows how to do. He’s given himself one chance at something else, and he was dragged right back in.

He has all the tools and no longer knows how to wield them.

And the chorus. My god, the chorus.

It’s never too late to start all over again

To love the people you caused the pain

And help them learn your name

Oh, no, not too late

It’s never too late to start all over again

As if my mind wasn’t blown already, we come to this. It’s never too late to start all over again. It doesn’t matter where you are in life –  you are able to shift your life in a new direction. You can start again.

It’s never too late to love the people you caused the pain, and help them learn your name. This has a double-meaning – you can start loving people when you choose to. You can choose to love the people that have caused you pain, and you can choose to cease causing pain for those around you. And most importantly for Dean, you can dig yourself out from underneath all that pain and see who you are underneath.

The next verse was cut from the show.

Well, it’s much too late to start again

To try and find a little bliss

So on your woman and your child

You release your bitterness

You drift apart some more each day

You feel the guilt and loneliness

And the God of your childhood you can’t find

To save you from your emptiness

Yes, they had to cut something in order to save time and to make it palatable for the American audience with perpetually short attention spans, but the fact that this verse was the one that was cut is completely mind-blowing in a few different ways.

They cut the verse about a dude with a wife and a child.

To use a term I don’t often use, they cut out the “no homo” verse.

Because love is poetic, most songs are love songs. Or sex songs. Or heartbreak songs. Or songs about how awesome it is to be heterosexual. This particular song is a rare example of a song that’s not actually about any of those things, but the only reference in the entire song that even remotely implies heterosexuality was cut.

(If you haven’t been following me for a while, you know that while I am a hardcore Dean/Cas fan I tend to try and not relate every moment of the show to Dean/Cas or Bi!Dean… but the absence of this verse is definitely worth mentioning.)

But if we take off the ship goggles and say it was just cut for time, and choose to study the verse that wasn’t included, it’s still 100% Dean. The “woman and child” are a family to the person this song is being directed to. And what has Dean been doing all season? “You release your bitterness. You drift apart some more each day. You feel the guilt and loneliness.” Dean has been releasing his bitterness at Sam, and Sam – sensing that – was reaching out to Dean in ways he hasn’t in… well, the entire show. But Dean was still drifting away. Dean was willing to leave Sam alone in dying. Dean (again) lost the best friend he’s ever had, and Sam wasn’t enough to pull him back.

Hunting used to be enough for Dean. He waxed poetic about it to Gordon back in season 2. “The God of your childhood you can’t find to save you from your emptiness.” This time, hunting isn’t working. His usual method of bullets, bacon, and booze isn’t working. Dean is empty.

You say you’ve only got one life to live

And when you’re dead you’re gone

Your family comes to your grave

And with tears in their eyes

They tell you, you did something wrong

“You left us alone”

Dean, despite being resurrected more times than we can scientifically count (due to several of them happening off screen), only has one life. Every time he’s died, Sam has spun off the deep end.

Knowing this, Dean was willing to leave Sam in this episode.

Tell me who’s to say after all is done

And you’re finally gone, you won’t be back again

You can find a way to change today

You don’t have to wait ‘til then

If you die – permanently – you’ll never have a chance to change your life. When Dean finally kicks the bucket for good, that’s it for him. He would never have another chance to change.

Dean died and came back – again. (And Cas died and came back – again.)

You don’t have to wait until you’re dead for your life to change. You can make it change yourself

As long as they’re both living, they have a chance. They have a chance to not cause each other pain. They have a chance to start loving each other, and to truly learn who the other person is, as well as who they are, themselves.

It’s never too late to start all over again.

requested: yes but i am so sorry this was supposed to be a daniel basketball scenario but there was like barely any daniel & basketball i hope you still like it tho anon!

  • you and daniel already knew each other
  • you guys became close when he dated your best friend
  • unfortunately for you, you fell for him hard when he was dating your friend, but you were never more than friends with him because you were a good friend and didn’t want to be a home wrecker
  • but they broke up and the breakup was super messy
  • though the whole reason why they broke up they kept it to themselves and you had no idea but you didn’t want to invade their personal space
  • so you didn’t pester them about it
  • you guys automatically stopped talking
  • you missed him so much though
  • you missed his adorable bunny smile
  • and the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed
  • how you would guys have the best time just joking around about the most random stuff
  • you wanted to text him, hang out and joke around with him
  • whenever he smiled your heart warmed and whenever he looked upset you felt terrible because you couldn’t comfort him
  • because even though you two were really close your best friend would be so upset if you were on “his side” which you found ridiculous but you didn’t want to upset her
  • a few months later you stopped talking to your best friend as well since you guys just grew apart because of her becoming more and more wild
  • you and daniel never properly talked to each other again
  • there were a few awkward sorrys and thank yous
  • and a few heart fluttering smiles exchanged
  • but nothing more than that
  • and it always broke your heart because you still had after all that time a massive crush on him
  • you also end up being best friends with seongwoo when you two were paired up for a science project
  • basically it was a huge fiasco since you guys were supposed to demonstrate a chemical reaction
  • you decided to do fireworks after seongwoo’s constant nagging and begging plus tbh you wanted to do them as well
  • but like you ended up buying illegal fireworks and stuff but like surprisingly you didn’t get in trouble cause your science teacher was super chill and hella lit
  • and totally dismissed the fact that fireworks without like special permission are illegal
  • anyways you guys got an A for that project
  • and ended up becoming best friends
  • there was so much teasing and joking around but like also sincere encouragements and like serious deep chats at like 2am
  • so when cocky seongwoo was actually nervous for tryouts for the basketball team you couldn’t help but think it’s adorable
  • “seongwoo i’ve never seen you sooo nervous it’s hilairious but actually though i’ve seen you play and you’re surprisingly good so don’t fret too much okay?” you say teasingly but also sincerely
  • he smiles back nervously “thanks y/n i think that’s the nicest thing you said to me all week” he says jokingly
  • “HEY! i complimented your hair the other day, wait no that was last week, whoopsie” you end with a light tone and a cute smile
  • he laughs and ruffles your hair and you frown fixing your hair up
  • but internally you feel proud of yourself for making him laugh
  • seongwoo of course ends up getting into the team without no problem
  • the next two months past by and the basketball season was nearly coming to an end
  • you attended every single game there was and always screamed and cheered for seongwoo
  • but internally you always cheered daniel on as well
  • admiring how focused he looked while playing and how good he looked in his basketball uniform showcasing his muscular arms
  • and you always found it cute the way his face lit up and let out a sigh of relief when he scored a goal
  • he really was one of the best players on the team
  • whenever the game finishes you go to hug and congratulate seongwoo and one time you end up hugging daniel you didn’t even know how it happened
  • you felt warm arms wrap around you and strong chest, you hugged him tightly back
  • his muscular frame making you feel so protected and safe
  • and at that very moment you knew the place where you loved the most was in his arms
  • but then both of you realised who you were hugging
  • you quickly part and awkwardly smile at each other with your cheeks turning bright red, you quickly dash off and try to calm yourself
  • while daniel was also blushing but blamed it on the fact he just finished the game and was puffed out
  • but other than that small incident nothing really happened in between you two
  • but during those 2 months seongwoo and daniel became best friends
  • it was always so awkward between the two of you and seongwoo picking up on the tension asked both of you what had happened
  • you explained in your point of view and daniel explained in his
  • seongwoo also figured out you two had some sort of feelings for each other but both of you never said to what extent
  • so he basically decided to play matchmaker
  • it was the final game and your school’s team won
  • and of course daniel scored the winning goal
  • you couldn’t help but be proud of him even though you guys weren’t even friend
  • you screamed so loud when they won and sprinted to seongwoo
  • he saw you and his face was in a broad grin and when you came close enough he spun you around in a hug guys a friendly one okay i’m not creating a love triangle here
  • you were so happy for him but you didn’t notice the small frown daniel was wearing when he saw you two
  • he thought to himself
  • of course seongwoo and y/n like each other, they’re basically perfect for each other but i wish she liked me but that wouldn’t be possible because i’m too scared to talk to her
  • he tried to be happy for seongwoo but he just couldn’t stop thinking about how sweet you were and how gorgeous you looked
  • and how he wished you were the person congratulating him and that it was him hugging you than seongwoo
  • but he knew that after months and months of liking you that he really couldn’t get over you even if he wanted to but he’ll try anyways
  • you completely oblivious of these thoughts also wanted to congratulate him
  • but you saw him with a wide smile and surrounded by girls gushing over how amazing he was
  • him smiling brightly and flirting with them
  • your mood dropped and your smile disappeared and you tried to ignore the ache in your heart but you still felt it
  • it was the huge winning party after their final game and everyone was playing spin the bottle for 7 minutes of heaven or kissing the person it landed on
  • you were dragged into play by seongwoo
  • “come onnnn y/n live a little!” he’d whine
  • “no, absolutely not, i don’t want to get stuck in a small closet with a revolting guy who then tries to make a move on me, hell to the no.”
  • you state firmly but also a tiny bit of you wanted to do it
  • “if i told you daniel was also playing would you agree? you know 7 minutes in a closet with daniel who knows what will happen.” he says teasingly with a wink
  • “DUDE! SHUT UP” you shout while whacking him multiple times on the arm
  • “okay okay okay okayyyy i’m sorryyyy, don’t hit me anymore, i’m too handsome to hit” seongwoo said while raising his hands up
  • you can’t help but groan at his antics and knew that he would insist you play and you’ll end up playing
  • plus a bit of you wanted to get stuck in a closet with daniel even though you knew nothing would happen except there would be awkward silence
  • “but pleaseee join meee” seongwoo said cutely while doing aegyo for you
  • “for fuck’s sake seongwoo, you look like a messed up deformed over grown puppy dog stop” you said bluntly
  • but then you continued “fine i’ll join”
  • you quickly sit down and your eyes instantly meet daniel’s
  • he gives you a quick quirk of the eyebrow
  • and even from that your heartbeat quickens
  • you just shrug at him and give him a shy smile
  • he smiles his adorable bunny smile back and you can’t help but blush
  • anyways minhyun spun the bottle and everyone was chanting including you “JAEHWAN JAEHWAN JAEHWAN”
  • and of course it landed on jaehwan
  • jaehwan screamed with his famous vocal cords “OH HELL NOOO I DON’T WANT TO BE KISSED BY MINHYUN I AIN’T GAY!!”
  • “you totally are” sungwoon quipped teasingly
  • “don’t lieee jaehwan you totally want to get kissed by minhyun” you add with a smirk
  • then ongniel basically did kissy faces at jaehwan
  • minhyun who was tipsy, you didn’t know how though he never drank said
  • “come onnn jaehwan i know you want me” he said seductively jokingly of course not
  • just imagine minhyun doing this tho i would die
  • jaehwan just scrunches up his face as minhyun pecks him on the lips
  • minhyun finally realised what he’s done and cringes so much while jaehwan is screaming
  • while all the guys are either cringing or whooping super loudly
  • “daniel it’s you next! a kiss or seven minutes of heaven?” jisung says cheerfully
  • you’re already blushing and you don’t know why but you had a gut feeling that it was going to land on you
  • daniel says with a slight blush “7 minutes of heaven”
  • he spins the bottle and seongwoo being the cheeky little shit he is
  • tugs the rugs so it stops exactly in front of you this is skills y’all
  • announces super loudly and quickly before anyone says anything about him tugging the rug
  • you and daniel look at each other with a mixture of mortification, embarrassment and just complete nervousness
  • you both enter the closet and you hear sungwoon loudly say
  • you both entered the closet and you realise there was no space
  • you literally were leaning against daniel, you could feel his warm body next to yours and your cheeks couldn’t help but heat up
  • daniel was super nervous but also super happy since he hasn’t been this close to you for a long time
  • you two face each other and you admire his chocolate brown eyes and his soft pink lips which you hate to admit but you wanted to kiss so bad
  • you saw his gaze flutter down to your lips and back up to your eyes
  • your heart beats super quickly knowing he was thinking about kissing you
  • there was an awkward silence for a few moments until he says softly to you
  • “hey how are you? we haven’t talked in a while”
  • “i’m okay i guess and yeah we haven’t really talked since the breakup” you say gently and without stuttering, you felt proud of yourself for not stuttering but you knew you were bright red
  • “oh right, i’m really sorry for kinda just stop talking to you after that but i’m sure (ex best friend’s name) explained to you why” he said sheepishly and he was also unconsciously biting his lip
  • making you think things you really shouldn’t and just shooting up your desire of kissing him right up the roof
  • you focus back to the topic and stop
  • “no she never did” you say confused
  • “wait actually???” daniel said shocked
  • “nope, i get if it’s too personal and it’s all over now but could you tell me why?” you say shyly
  • “uh-uh-uh umm” he stuttered looking anywhere but at you
  • he then continues “well i broke up with (ex best friend’s name) because i liked you, y/n, and i guess i still do now but like i know you and seongwoo are a thing so it really doesn’t matter anymore and like i know this might be super awkward for you so i’m really sorry”
  • he said super disappointed
  • your eyes widen and your mouth drops as you hear that you completely freeze up trying to process the fact that daniel actually LIKES YOU??!!
  • then you feel like you’re bursting with happiness and you don’t realise what you do but you basically jump into daniel’s arms
  • he’s so surprised but also confused because he’s not sure whether this means you like him or not but a bit of hope ignites in him
  • you lay your head on his shoulder taking his comforting scent in and snuggle into the crook of his neck
  • and you sweetly say in a giddy tone “daniel i like you too i have for months and months and months. I never said anything but i fell for you when you were dating (ex best friend’s name). i’ve liked you ever since then. plus me and seongwoo aren’t a thing we never were he’s my best friend and that’s it. you know that seongwoo knows that i like you?”
  • he faces you with a look of pure happiness and exclaims
  • “actually?! he knows i like you too! that prat he should of just told me, he just had to make things complicated.” he says sweetly at first
  • but i’m so happy do you know how much i’ve wanted to hear those words.” he says in a low raspy tone slightly seductive
  • with your noses touching now and you don’t even know what came over you but you whisper in his ear seductively “i have an idea”
  • suddenly daniel captures your lips with his and you wrap your arms around his neck
  • his kisses were lustful, passionate but also sweet
  • it was the perfect mixture of sexy and sweet just like him
  • his hands instead of holding your hips to hold you up goes down to your ass and he lightly squeezes it
  • you run your hands through his messy brown hair enjoying every single sensation of you kissing him
  • he lightly nibbles your neck giving you tiny hickeys making you moan a little and before you know it he passionately makes out with you again
  • you hear someone shout “TIME’S UP!!”
  • the closet door opens and you automatically break apart and daniel sets you down lightly
  • with your top a bit astray showing a bit of your bra, his hair messed up and one of his buttons undone, everyone could tell something went on
  • everyone basically said “ooooooo did you guys get it onnnnnnn??”
  • you both are blushing profusely trying to fix up your appearance
  • not saying anything because everyone is just smirking at you two
  • you feel so embarrassed but at the same time delighted that daniel reciprocates your feelings
  • you’re also so surprised with yourself because you’re never like that and definitely not the one to initiate stuff like it
  • and of course your embarrassment worsens when seongwoo basically screams so the whole party can hear
  • you blush so hard and you quickly try to cover them up and when you fail you just have your head in your hands
  • while seongwoo puts his arm around daniel winking while daniel just groans and shoves him off
  • jisung looking at you two and deciding to take pity on you two announces “EVERYONE CHOP CHOP WE DON’T HAVE A LOT OF TIME IT’S SEONGWOO’S TURN!!”
  • seongwoo automatically focuses on himself lol same tho and says cockily “ladiesss be prepared to be swept off your feet”
  • then he actually ends up landing on jihoon and kisses him while doing sexy aegyo
  • you smile at jisung gratefully and you thank him as he gives you a quick hug and he just says no problem and goes back to the game
  • jisung is such a sweetheart and so underrated i love him sm
  • you feel an arm gently wrap around your shoulders and you see daniel smiling at you
  • your heart flutters and you smile shyly back at him and he gently whispers in your ear which makes you blush beetroot red but you end up giving him a small kiss in return for him saying
  • “that really was my 7 minutes in heaven”

ahhh shit this was super rushed so apologies i also made this like more sexual than usual but not too far so i’m sorry for people who did not like it, please tell me if you want me to or not include these sort of scenes for my future scenarios. this was a lot of fun to write though sorry it took so long i had a bit of a writers block ALSO TONS OF ASSESSMENTS AND TESTS cri i hate school. anyways as always PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE OR AN ANON MESSAGE to just chat, feedback but apologies no requests :((

p.s. there was a lot of seongwoo cause he’s my bias wrecker and i love him sm

anonymous asked:

what's your take on ka/llura scenes in The Ark of Taujeer episode, where we see from Keith's POV him catching Allura and then them slowly gravitating around each other sorta like in a waltz, i feel like particulary these two scenes were framed as slightly romantic/slow-burn-esque...

You know, given that I thought ka/llura was more likely before season 3, I decided to rewatch the episode and see how I feel about it in hindsight. So let’s start at the beginning–Allura tries convincing everyone that it’s her Zarkon’s tracking. But then Keith interrupts with, “It’s not you, Princess. It’s me.”

Everyone else stares at Keith, but Allura doesn’t even look up when he says this. And you know, given that they both thought the other was putting the team at risk–they could’ve tried talking to each other afterwards. Maybe with Allura thinking Keith was covering for her and Keith trying to insist that he’s the problem and she shouldn’t put all the blame on herself. But that’s not the case. Someone does get worried enough to talk with Keith in private though, and it’s not Allura.

And I mean, Shiro could’ve gone to Allura instead. But it was Keith that he was really concerned for. It’s another one of those intimate little stolen moments between them. And unlike when Allura bumps into Keith later on, Shiro sought him out. He realized something was very wrong and wanted to be there for him. Keith is also very vulnerable during this scene. His voice sounds defeated and hoarse. When he walks away, Shiro stares after him, worried sick. As always, Keith tries to appease Shiro though. “I’m fine, just tired. Like you said, I should probably get some rest.” He’s the one hurting, but he still tries to reassure Shiro instead.

Now, let’s talk about when Keith runs into Allura. “Uh, what are you doing?” In all honesty, I don’t think he’s all that sympathetic towards her? Despite going through the same thing? He doesn’t act too concerned–not the way Lance or Shiro would, I think. Or Hunk or Pidge and especially Coran. He sounds almost bored, like he caught her doing something embarrassing rather than dangerous. And yes, he does do the princess carry–by accident?–and it’s cute. She’s also blushing after. But I think it was also something that was kind of played for laughs rather than something serious.

And you know, the fact that Keith looks unaffected here while Allura seems stunned–I still think Lance holding Allura in his arms was framed as something much more dramatic and meaningful. Yes, both end up being comedic moments. And Allura’s shocked at first in both cases as well. But I think her moment with Lance was much more charged. For one thing, they both look invested in the moment. The shot is also closer up to really focus on their expressions, and you can see Allura’s gaze softens at first. And then Lance opened up his mouth, lmao.

But anyway ya, I think that, while it lasted, that scene was still way more intimate than Keith effortlessly catching Allura–and that’s another thing too, because it was effortless. He just held out his hands and there she was. Lance literally runs and like dives to catch her, so I think that says something else about being emotionally invested.

Looking back, I don’t think this episode was really setting Keith and Allura up as love interests. I think it was more so for two things–1) to have their ka/llura throwback to the 80′s. And 2) to build up their relationship for both Keith’s galra arc and Allura’s paladin arc. For one thing, it would be hard for Allura to feel too betrayed by Keith if she never really talked to the guy personally. For another, Allura would be piloting for Keith’s team, not Shiro’s. It makes sense for them to bond first if he’s going to be the new team leader, especially since Allura and Shiro often made decisions together.

Even when they’re just talking in the ship, it really feels like Keith is keeping very distant. Allura talks a lot about her feelings because she feels like Keith is sort of invalidating her trauma by “defending” the galra. And for his part, Keith is obviously trying to come off as someone objective and tries to cover up his own feelings. The result is a talk that feels very strained and awkward and is definite buildup for further complications to come.

I think the most meaningful moment they have here is when they talk about what they’ll do if Zarkon does chase them. Both insist that the other is going to have to go back to the team no matter what–that they’re still needed and won’t just be abandoned. “Who would pilot the castle and create wormholes?” “Well, what about you? Without you, the team cannot form Voltron.”

Of course, it’s a tiny detail, but I think it’s also noticeable that Keith lets Allura have the last word on the galra. He could’ve insisted that he was right instead–we know how set in his ways he is–but he’s too afraid of her reaction to speak up. Compare this to when Keith’s accused of stealing by the BOM. Even when he has “incriminating evidence” against him, when he’s tackled to the floor and his life’s in danger–his first concern is that Shiro might not trust him. More than anything else, he wants to clear his name so that Shiro doesn’t think badly of him. “Shiro, you know me. I promise you I didn’t steal it.”

While Keith does try to defend the galra in front of Allura at first–and by extension himself–he still ultimately drops it. You can see it hurts, but he can still live with Allura hating him. Even when she knows he’s galra and starts treating him differently, he doesn’t say anything. But the thought of Shiro turning away from him is something he just can’t bare.

Anyway, then there’s the Space Dance Scene. Very Disney. Incredibly aesthetic and also adorable. It was a sweet moment. But honestly, like…I just think it never went anywhere. It was a moment–maybe something they threw in for ka/llura fans of the older series–but other than that? It feels like they just completely dropped the momentum.

And yes, Keith checks in and asks if she’s okay. But he’s also back to calling her Princess instead of Allura and I think that shows he kind of put up his walls again. Tries to be impersonal and professional. While he definitely cares about Allura, I honestly don’t think it’s romantically. Especially given how season 3 confirms that, just like season 1, he’s still going to put the mission before Allura’s safety. The only person whose life he’s ever continuously put above his duty is Shiro

And going back to how Allura and Keith’s interactions feel very detached, we see that Keith doesn’t try to comfort her afterwards?? Allura says they’ve made a “terrible mistake,” that they never should have left, ect. And Keith just?? Says nothing?? And maybe you could say Keith is just very bad at the whole comforting thing. But he still always reassures Shiro?? So?? Keith don’t just ignore her bro it’s gonna be a long flight back anyway that’s kinda rude

Now, the part where they reunite–when they rejoin the other paladins, who are the two with the most notable reactions? Shiro and Lance. And you know, Shiro could’ve asked about Allura too, could’ve said that he was glad they were both back. But no, he doesn’t even think to mention her. He’s just too busy being over the moon about Keith and literally repeats Keith’s words back to him. And thematically, yeah, that comes off as very sweet and romantic. But for Shiro we know this is also very personal. Because he’s heard Keith quoting him before, and he was really touched by it. “That really stayed with you, didn’t it?” By throwing Keith’s line back at him, Shiro’s essentially saying, Look, this stayed with me too. Hearing that really meant something to me. Thank you.

And of course, Lance is really anxious to hear about the princess. And we know he has a crush on her, so paralleling his reaction alongside Shiro’s delight to see Keith means?? I’m just saying, if he did have feelings for Keith, then it would make sense why they had him be just as affected by Keith’s return as Lance was by Allura’s.

And you know, something that I think I misinterpreted before season 3–I used to think Allura was so happy there because she was proud of Keith. Maybe she’s still thinking about their little moments together and she’s really impressed by Keith’s skill as a pilot. But looking back? I think this is less about Keith and has almost everything to do with Red. It’s not necessarily flying with Keith she’s thrilled about, it’s that she’s finally knowing what it’s like to be in Red lion. The lion she probably always dreamed of piloting after her father. And maybe part of why she would have wanted to be closer to Keith–and felt betrayed by his lineage–had to do with her father’s legacy

Any ‘supervillian’ (actually misunderstood) tony?

That’s such a fun trope, isn’t it?  Here are some suggestions, including a couple of Tony’s-a-villain-because-reasons.

Saving the World (Is Totally a Date) by @wordsplat:  Tony discovers Stane’s betrayal while he’s still being held captive. When he escapes, he sets out to ruin Stane as completely and ruthlessly as he can, playing up his PTSD and quitting his job to destroy Stane quietly from the outside. He also picks up a teaching job-all Pepper’s fault-and oh, right, becomes a supervillain. Okay, that one was Tony’s fault, but it was totally an accident. In the meantime, a certain Capsicle is defrosted a year early, and is assigned the task of capturing the notorious Iron Man. It’s not going particularly well, if the embarrassingly high number of times he’s been kidnapped in the past six months is any indication. When SHIELD decides to help him “adjust” by getting him a teaching job, Steve is skeptical; but then there’s Tony, and Steve finds he doesn’t mind the 21st century so much after all.

IM Ultra by @arukou-arukou:   Steve and Tony have only been dating for a month when Tony begins to act strangely and the Avengers begin to get suspicious.

No Disguises by thryza:  Back at Avengers Tower after their dubious success at infiltrating the Cabal, Tony thinks it’s a great time for some sexy villain role-play. Steve isn’t so keen on the idea. Talk of feelings ensues. (PWP set after episode 1x13, ‘In Deep.’)

Below the Belt by cookinguptales:  Every organization has team trust-building exercises. Even terrorists.

Living on Your Breath by @sineala:   The Avengers have faced Onslaught and come home. The team has assembled again. And Steve is finally together with Tony. They’re in love. Everything is perfect. But this happiness is all too brief, as Tony is kidnapped by forces unknown. Steve rushes off to rescue Tony, only to find that Tony has been brainwashed and turned against him. Now Steve, captured and tortured by the man he loves, must sacrifice everything he has to stop Tony from becoming a monster. Their relationship will never be the same again… if they both get out of here alive.

Dying Wish by Beckendorf:  Ever since Captain America became the all time favourite kidnapee of the armoured supervillain Iron Man, the world had gotten used to seeing him disappear.
But this had been the fourth one in just a two week span, and Steve had a feeling it might be his last.

Not with a Bang by captainshellhead & vibraniumstark: Iron Man has stolen the Infinity Gauntlet, and Steve wants to know why. As the Avengers track his movements, and his behavior continues to get more erratic, Steve begins realize that there is more to this than Iron Man is willing to let on. Captain America and Iron Man have history, and in all that time Steve has never truly seen him as the supervillain SHIELD branded him – until now.Basic knowledge of the incursion story arc is helpful to follow along, but the story deviates enough that it’s not necessary.

Secrets of a Successful Marriage by valtyr:  Tony Stark lives a double life; he’s secretly the supervillain known as Iron Man. But his loving husband Steve has a few secrets of his own, as Tony is about to discover.

An Agathokakological Mind by Renai_chan:  Tony would do anything to save his son, including willingly walking into a trap, getting surgery, betraying his husband and becoming a supervillain.

Tony Stark:  Terrible Villain Extraordinaire by starspangledsproket:  In a universe where Tony’s drive for retribution over Obie’s betrayal turns him into a villain (kinda), he finds himself at a strange impasse with leader of the Avengers, Captain America.

The Incompetent Supervillain by @captainneverever:   Tony Stark is a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, supervillain. Things are looking better and better but then there is this weirdo at his favorite coffee shop who throws his life out of whack.

Keep Your Enemies Closer by keptein:  Tony, fed up with the corruption in the superhero business, becomes a supervillain. SHIELD calls in Steve Rogers to fight him, which would be fine - if they didn’t also ask Tony Stark to help as an engineering specialist.

Nobody Else But Me by Amonae:  Iron Man and the Captain have been side-stepping each other at every turn, a villain and spy locked in a constant samba. But SHIELD is growing impatient, and Iron Man is losing face in the eyes of his men–both Steve and Tony find themselves in too deep before even realizing the stakes.

Missing Bits by @massivespacewren:   Some scenes that really should have been in Avengers Assemble season 2 episode 9, “The Dark Avengers”.

This Thing We Keep by captrogerscarter:  Steve and Tony have been doing this dance for years, but neither of them are playing anymore.

Enemy at the Gates by @awesomeavocadolove:   By the time Captain America was found and defrosted, the Chitauri had wiped out the entire state of New York, and Iron Man was the world’s most wanted villain.

Every Villain is a Hero (In His Own Mind) by @awesomeavocadolove:   Tony is the villain known as Iron Man. Steve is Captain America. Outside work, Steve and Tony are married and do not know each other’s secret identities. Some revelations, though, do not come with a happy ending.

Engaging the Enemy by tsukinofaerii:  Iron Man is one of the more persistent villains that the Ultimates face, with a special fondness for one Captain America. As Steve starts to findout more and more about him, the lines between hero and villain begin to blur. Sometimes, you don’t have to be on the right side of the law to be in the right.

Reflection by TenSpencerReidPlease: “Did you just call Cap my husband?” Tony asks.“With the amount of sexual tension the two of you produce you might as well be married,” Vankov mumbles and Tony returns to his work.“If marriages were just sexual tension they wouldn’t last long,” Tony says.“Explains why you’re divorced from the good Captain,” Vankov quips back, laughing when Tony glares at him again.

The Hawk’s View by Raliena: Clint knows several facts to be true:
1. He will always look out for those who are his.
2. Steve loves Tony.
3. Tony loves Steve.
4. Tony is a civilian.
5. Iron Man is a villain. But just because something is true does not mean it is the whole truth, the complete truth and nothing but the truth.
He doesn’t know that yet.

Amalgam by dxmjunkie : So, Tony touched the shiny Asgardian necklace and now he’s popped on over to another dimension.

Apparently this world’s Iron Man is some sort of psycho villain who blows stuff up on a daily basis in the bad kind of way. Other-Bruce’s whereabouts are unknown and he’s considered a national threat. Other-Natasha and Other-Clint are still exceptionally super scary spies, except now they both have a personal vendetta against Iron Man. Insult to injury- Thor is the only Avenger cool enough not to exist in multiple universes. Lucky bastard.

Did he mention that this Captain America hates his freaking guts? And that seeing Other-Steve glare at him like he’s repellent scum is sorta killing him on the inside? (thanks to @darkly-stark for the suggestion!)

Brian Orser on Yuzuru’s 4Lo and the discussion after Skate Canada (excerpts from Team Brian 2)

(Picture is of Yuzuru at the medal ceremony in Helsinki. It didn’t come from Team Brian 2, but I always wondered what and how much it took the team to get there.)

There is actually a lot to marvel about, in terms of how Yuzuru’s season came together so beautifully in the end. As we look forward to the next season, let’s review how the last season began with three excerpts from Team Brian 2

From Brian’s perspective, we can see the concerns and worries over Yuzuru’s health, his at-the-time troubling 4T (in contrast to its 3A-toppling status now :o), the immense belief and strength (and stubbornness) it took for Yuzuru to persevere with the 4Lo, as well as the discussion post-Skate Canada that lead to mutual understanding and ultimately, a successful season overcoming those difficult challenges. Cheers and kudos, Team Yuzu!

(Conclusion: Brian gains 15kg from the last six months of 2016 and loses 1kg in hair.)

anonymous asked:

Hey, I'm a new fan (your blog is very helpful to me!) and I'm trying to figure out why 14/15 season is considered such a bad season for Yuzu. I know about CoC but that was just one comp in the beginning of the season... and he did not upgrade his layout that season?... why? Could you enlighten me a bit?

Oh anon, oh anon, where to start?

Just say, if you are a new fan and you missed 14/15 season live you should count yourself lucky.

Season started with a withdrawal from Finlandia Trophy. Nothing too much worrying, just back pain probably due to a too full off-season.

Then we had Cup of Disaster and the crash with Han Yan. Let’s go through it in his own words:

“My stomach hit the ice (when I fell) and so it felt like I received a body blow. My stomach was so painful, I could not breathe and I could not get up. Then, when I tried standing up, my chin was hurting and bleeding. My head was panicking and I didn’t know exactly where all the pain was coming from.”

“When the 6-min warm-up started again, above my left knee, the sartorius muscle was really painful. I tried jumping the loop and I could somehow do it. But when I did the lutz, it was so painful, I thought ‘yabai’ (t/n. here it can mean ‘dangerous’ or ‘terrible’ or 'crap’). The axel was painful and really hard but I was standing. Quad toeloop I had a hand down and step-out, the quad salchow I rotated and fell. So I thought 'it’s alright, even though it’s painful, if I think JUMP, I can jump!’
But 'the quad toe in the 2nd half would be impossible, what should I do (to replace it)’ and immediately I thought, 'Lutz, I will jump the lutz twice.’ 'I can just go back to the same layout as last season.’
With the remaining time, I tried out that path. When the 6-min warm-up ended, I immediately told Brian, 'I will do the lutz today.’ And he responded with something like, 'Yes, I know.’
Maybe my adrenaline was fully gushing out. Even though it was very painful, just skate to the end somehow, I thought.”

“After my performance, the American doctors had prepared the things needed to do stitches for me in the massage room of the venue. With anaesthetics, my chin received 7 stitches. There was also a cut on my head, and that part received 3 staples without anaesthesia. The staples were really painful! That night, my chin and my head and my leg and my stomach were hurting so much; the next day, I took the plane back to Japan for a medical examination, it was hell. (wry smile)
The plan to return to Toronto was changed and he returned to Japan. In the hospital in Japan, the results of the medical examination was 'head contusion (or bruise), chin contusion, abdominal contusion, left thigh contusion, right ankle sprain’, 2 to 3 weeks needed for full recovery.

(Translation thanks to @yuzusorbet)

3 weeks after Cup of Disaster, and just few days after he started again to practice, NHK came up.

After Cup of China, a week later, the pain was still there; I could not walk for about 10 days. When I was able walk a little, I tried going onto the ice. It was too painful and I thought, NHK Trophy is surely impossible.”
In the end, the final decision was made after entering the venue for NHK Trophy

Without having been on the ice the way he had wanted, facing the competition, he had no choice but to change the layout that he was aiming for this season.
After somehow qualifying for GPF, he started to train again 100%, but his conditions and the little time didn’t allow for any layout change.

In Barcelona, somewhen after SP he started feeling pain again, this time to his abdomen:

But after the short programme, my stomach started to have some pain. When I press or stretch, it’s heavy, painful, a muscle ache kind of pain. So I thought, 'Is there some damage to the muscle tissue?’ But when I finished the free skate, there was lump below my navel, like a pingpong ball, 'how strange’ I thought. After I boarded the plane, my navel swelled up.   During the flight, it was so painful that I could not sleep.  I went straight to the hospital for a check and was told it could be ‘Urachal Remnant’.  Because the symptoms were not that bad yet, I was given antibiotics. With that, I returned home to Sendai. Then, before I had a bath, I saw that my navel had become a bulging lump. And after about 5 minutes, it burst!  A lot of blood and pus gushed out.

That’s why, the period going towards Japan Championships was the same as the period before NHK Trophy, I didn’t know if I could skate. I went to the hospital and was told it’s Urachal Remnant Disorder and surgery is needed. But because I have Japan Championships, I could not have the surgery anytime soon. 'If I can bear with it, I will go for nationals,’ I thought. It was not necessary to tell people about the urachal remnant, and also it was not relevant, I wanted to go for nationals. But it was painful to bend forward and backward.

The wound was covered by gauze but blood kept oozing out and it got onto my clothes every time. To prevent it from staining my costume, on top of the gauze, the tape used was not normal tape but the kind that’s for taping. The gauze also chafed. It was painful.”
The urachus connects the navel and the bladder in the fetal period;  the urachal remnant started to fester and the disorder worsened but only a few people around him knew about this.

As you see, once again to change layout to the original one was impossible.
He won Nationals. The next day he withdrew from Gala and was admitted in hospital instead.

“Pus was oozing out continuously.  I thought, 'after nationals, I will have the surgery immediately. If not, I won’t be in time for World Championships.’  I was told that I can’t move for 2 months after the surgery.”

(Just because I feel the need of you to read a bit of horror story more):

“For the epidural anaesthesia, a catheter was inserted in my back; the alcohol used for disinfection was strong and I reacted to it/ developed a rash. After surgery, my back was itching and itching. In the stomach area, there was also a tube to drain the blood so that it does not accumulate. This was pierced through my navel and it was extremely painful. Ah~, it hurts now when I think of it. I also could not turn over. It was hard. Then later, I was injected with antibiotics and I had an allergic reaction; my whole body broke out in hives (urticaria). Really, all sorts of things happened. But thankfully, now half a year has passed and I am fine.”

(Translation again thanks to @yuzusorbet)

He spent New Year in hospital. Some weeks later he was back in Sendai.

He wasn’t supposed to train for quite a while, but by the end of January it was reported he was back on ice.

Too soon, not ready, he twisted his ankle soon after. He had to take other weeks off and his recovery was delayed once again.

Up till Worlds there were contradicting news about his partecipation. He didn’t return to Toronto, he remained in Japan training alone in Sendai. To upgrade his layouts to the supposed versions (3A // 4T 3Lz3T and 4S 4T 3F // 4T3T 3A2T 3Alo3S 3Lo 3Lz) was impossible.

During Worlds time, it was reported he was still suffering from an infection to his abdomen (reports were not clear, tho) and for sure he did worsen his recovery by trying alternative methods (like trying to cut off his stitches with scissors, because they… itched. Itched.). He skated at that WC on a very tentative condition, he had some issue still at “contracting” his abdominal muscles to push rotation. And it’s not by chance that after such a season, with so many troubles, he decided to skate to Parisienne Walkaways during WTT Gala

In short, that’s what happened in 2014/15 season. That’s the reason he didn’t upgrade his layout from the previous one and that’s the reason 2014/15 is considered a nightmare season by many fans.

What are your thoughts on teen wolf? especially writing wise? I have stopped watching regularly around 3b and I wasn't too convinced by what I've seen here on tumblr about the rest of the episodes, in particular 6x10...

i will always have a special place in my heart for the characters i love that the show gave me. i still blog about teen wolf, i write fic, and i enjoyed s1-3a. saying that, i don’t particular enjoy what the show became, or look back on the experience i had as a fan with much nostalgia (i think we were v much used and abused as a fandom online, for sure). i love my part of fandom, though.

short answer about the writing… it was terrible because

1) there was a complete lack of planning and follow through

2) we love this idea/actor/theme for 30 seconds but oops now we don’t

3) they completely misused their social media as a way to a) explain away/correct plot holes in their own writing and b) encourage viewers to watch a show they implied to be many things that it turned out to… not be any of

Imma just come right out and say it now that I’ve finished the season.

I love this season but if I had to pick one glaring flaw, it’d be Billy.

Now, Billy wasn’t a terrible antagonist. He was certainly detestable and it was satisfying to see Max and Steve win over him. What grinds my gears is that he’s unnecessary. He was absolutely useless to the overall story. He shows up from time to time, does some random evil shit, but then gets quickly forgotten when the real story comes back. Literally, the only episodes where he plays a pivotal role is the last three and even that’s debatable.

We learn why he’s such a dick, he goes to the Wheelers’ house, gets into a fight and then…disappears. That was the end of the Billy subplot. Seriously, if the show wanted this kind of character to work, they needed Billy to play a bigger role. That was why Henry Bowers was so effective in IT, since even though he started out as a random bully, he eventually gets roped into working with Pennywise.

Billy had nothing to do with any of the story arcs. He never interacts with Will, El, and the government characters. The only characters he directly affected were Steve, Max, and Lucas and all three of them had better things to do. Billy was more of an afterthought that they had to deal with.

AND, with the Billy material we do have, it just makes me question why. Why should I care about this guy? The writers certainly tried to make him interesting but the result was kind of a mess.

He starts out as this bad boy who all the girls like. But he also has this suave, Fabio-side of him which Karen Wheeler swoons over. Then it’s revealed he might be narcissistic. But then it’s revealed he abuses his sister and may be racist. But THEN, it’s revealed he’s a psycho who is not above murder. And THEN, it’s revealed he hates Steve and wants to bully him to be the alpha male at the school. And THEN, it’s revealed he’s actually abused by his own dad, which contributed to his douchebaggery.

There’s so many ingredients when it comes to this character and it falls flat when mixed together because what we end up with is a character without an identity. He’s not a 3-dimensional villain, he’s whatever the plot needs him to be, which is why he flip flops so quickly. And really, this could’ve all been solved if the show took the time to develop his motives and overall personality but honestly, I barely remember Billy’s screentime in any of the episodes. He shows up, does some stuff, and disappears.

In the end, the Billy subplot was only there to act as a catalyst for Max and Steve’s development. He’s the “Beverly’s dad” to them both. This subplot could’ve really worked and I was looking forward to Billy’s role in the show. But the end result was just…eh?

And now that I think about it, we didn’t even NEED Billy to develop Steve and Max. Steve already matured as a character when it showed him moving on from Nancy and becoming the middle schooler’s babysitter. He showed bravery and leadership that could’ve been done without Billy. And Max had already joined the group. Her development could’ve easily been done through her bonding with the already established characters, namely with Lucas. So once again, why even have Billy if he’s going to be this pointless?

Still an overall fantastic season but Billy, I could’ve done without.

Editorial: Why Does Nickelodeon Give Up On New Animated Shows So Quickly?

(The following post is long. Very long. And I did my best to word it properly even though I’m not the best with words. Still, I’d very much appreciate it if you took the time to read it because it’s about something that really matters to me. I know stuff about Nickelodeon isn’t very popular unless it’s 100% negative, but please, if you have the time, give this a look)

Nickelodeon. Once beloved by everyone, now infamous for two things: Either ending animated shows too early (El Tigre, Harvey Beaks) or treating them terribly (The Legend of Korra). They’ve been like this since 2006 and have only slightly improved since then. Even now, Bunsen is a Beast and Welcome to the Wayne, which only just premiered this year, seem to already be on their way out, either cancelled or ready to be moved off the main network for their next season.

Why has this happened? Why has Nickelodeon lost faith in its own animated output? I believe there are two groups of people to blame:

  1. Nickelodeon’s current management
  2. The general viewing public on the internet

That’s right, WE are just as much to blame for Nick’s downfall as they are. Yes, really. There are several factors that led to the state the network is in now and we had a hand in quite a few of them…

Idol AU! Jihoon (pt 1)

I just remembered a person requested me to do songwriter aus for all the members of Wanna One, I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN LOL its just taking some time HAHA anyways lets move on to the request which I love bc of what they requested and that they requested my bias >.>

ok this is also going to be super long since I wanted to make this really good fjdkafl (okay but also i’m not sure if i made the girl actually shy or not so i’m sorry if she isn’t really that shy to you!

  • you weren’t much of a talker
  • or more specifically speaking you’re SUPER shy
  • You did like talking to people but when you first meet them you back off a little and you get super quiet since you don’t know them well.
  • like when you first met your group members you didn’t really talk to them at first bc yknow you’re shy.
  • which in turned made them think you didn’t like them which made them sad.
  • but then yall had an intervention and now you guys are super close! You are super close with them now but when your gorup is surrouded by other people you end up sticking close with one of the members.
  • how does Jihoon fit into this?
  • well gurl lemme tell you
  • so you and Jihoon actually both go to sopa! great right?
  • well I mean you guys have never talked but you have seen him a couple of times since after pd101 he became one of the huge shinning stars of the school.
  • you didn’t really talk to people at your school so when you debuted in a group in a fairly known company no one really noticed it was you.
  • so during a music show recording, you bump in Wanna One!
  • but mind you are alone trying to get your dressing room
  • you lock eyes with Jihoon and he just gives you a small smile and you just instantly bow to them.
  • “Hi I’m-”
  • “You don’t need to introduce yourself we know you already!”
  • One of the members of Wanna One sent a bright smile towards you which just confused you
  • “You know me?”
  • “Yeah-”
  • before the guy could continue talking he started yelling in pain and just bent down to attend to his shin.
  • “We just monitor a lot of groups!”
  • Jihoon blurted this out quickly and you just nodded.
  • wow by this point the awkwardness between you and the boy group was eating you inside and you just wanted to dig a hole a live in it forever
  • they were also super handsome? like more handsome then you have seen in pictures. wow it made you feel even more awkward because it felt weird just looking at them.
  • “um”
  • you shifted around in nervousness since you didn’t know what to say.
  • “Y/N”
  • you looked up from the ground to hear one of your member’s voice which sounded like the voice of a savior to you.
  • you looked at Wanna One and quickly decided to say one more thing before leaving.
  • “i uh I really look up t-to you guys since you worked so h-hard on Produce 101 and I-I really like your t-title t-track.”
  • you quickly mumbled the last of the sentence and bowed once again before scurrying off

time skipp

  • later at school you’re eating your lunch beside some of your other shy acquaintances when someone puts down their lunch and sits down beside you.
  • it’s jihoon!!!!!11!
  • you just stare at him in confusion and he just gives you a bright smile and starts to eat.
  • “aren’t you going to eat?”
  • you snap out of staring at jihoon and just look down at your food
  • “well I mean I’m just wondering why you are sitting next to me when you have your friends..”
  • you gesture to the table where Jihoon usually sits at and notice his friends high key staring at the two of you.
  • “see they’re even staring.”
  • you gesture to the table again,
  • “go sit with them.”
  • he shakes his head and continues to eat.
  • for you, you’re starting to drown in awkwardness so you decide to just keep on eating your food.
  • “i like your title track too.”
  • you hear him say (more like terribly mumble) and you just nod in response
  • later that day you’re just sitting down at random bench in the quad of your school when jihoon comes to sit down next to you again.
  • you just look at him and continue doing what you were doing
  • “are you shy?”
  • he blurted out of now where.
  • “I thought that was obvious.”
  • he laughed a little and yknow the situation started to feel awkward
  • you got up to go somewhere else when he grabbed your wrist
  • “wait don’t go. let’s talk”
  • you gave him a look of, ‘this is really awkward i just wanna curl up into a ball and sleep’
  • but nonetheless you sat down again and it was silent for a while.
  • “do you like biscuits?”
  • you looked at jihoon again with a “wtf” face but you still nod. he takes something out of his bag and ofc
  • it was the yohi biscuits that they are advertising for.
  • “sorry it’s just that we have too much at home.”
  • you smiled a little and accepted it
  • “thanks jihoon.”
  • okay so the rest of the convo is just you guys getting to know each other and now yall are friends yay!
  • so your friendship is currently a little like this
  • *sends jihoon a video of his snow adver*
  • you: ‘why do you look like those manga girls with eyes that take up half of their faces’
  • jihoon: okay look 1. that’s the filter and 2. i am not a girl
  • and like imagine wanna one having their debut stage on mcountdown
  • you: wow i didn’t ask for my friend to be so good looking i feel like a potato why can’t i be as talented as you
  • jihoon: we were preforming on the same though and excuse you aren’t a potato bc if you were you wouldn’t be an idol rn
  • and imagine jihoon sending you a screenshot of you during one of your stages
  • jihoon: *sends an ugly screenshot of you* looks like I paused at the wrong time…
  • you guys talk to each other like 24/7 because like you guys are basically besties now!
  • sometimes when one of you can’t sleep you guys will call each other and talk until you both fall asleep.
  • the problem is that you guys are talking and stuff all the time that some people have kind of misunderstood the kind of relationship
  • like while you were texting Jihoon, your manager came up and calmly asked you if you were dating Jihoon and you were like
  • “lmao no”
  • and you tell jihoon and he just acts a little weird and you’re like
  • “jihoon are you okay?”
  • and he’s says
  • “y-yeah just thinking about some stuff, hey I’ll be right back.”
  • and after that jihoon would act low key weird but yknow you didn’t really notice since you were also practicing with your group for you next comeback.

okay so I think i’m gonna make a pt2 because like wow this is getting super long HDJKLFAH

anonymous asked:

Just wondering whether you think that 5.20 etc was planned or something they decided to do because of fan reaction? Thanks!

(I’m guessing by your use of ‘etc’ that you’re referring to Olicity’s progression?)

Not a chance. Hell no. The reunion has been 100% set in stone since before they broke up. @louiseblue1 and @jbuffyangel have explained it so well in the past, much better than I’m about to.

HOW they decided to do it, they figured out between May and August 2016, with a few addendum’s made by 5.05 was filmed. When they knew the time they wanted them to reunite (as in, at the end of a season)? Roughly when they filmed 4.16. I know there are some people who disagree, but I know the truth.

Want facts first?

Bullet point answers coming up:

-  The script for 5.19 was written before 5.14 even aired – which means they’d figured it out before the ruckus that episode 15 inspired.

-  They’ve known all season how much we dislike the LI’s: they still went ahead with them.

-  Before writing scripts for a season, they must first plan the season. Good novelists and fanfiction authors do the same for a story they know will last a while (I don’t and I suffer for it). They don’t have enough time to change things on the spot later on or mess about with the plot because of their tight schedule, which is why they write scripts for episodes that are roughly 4 episodes ahead of the ones being filmed. And then they have to make sure the episodes work with the narrative flows of the season. Advanced prep.

-  When 5.05 aired (an episode that was filmed before episode 1 aired), WM & MG both admitted that they wanted to explore Oliver and Felicity apart from each other for a bit FIRST. First. It implies that it isn’t forever. Just long enough for realisations to set in. And to drive the fandom insane.

-  Before the season started no one said they were over. Yet by season 2’s end and before season 3’s air date, WM was saying said that Oliver wouldn’t be getting back with LL or Sara because their relationships were based on the past and would never last. SA specifically said NO.

-  WM & MG have also said this season that there were a few stories they had left that they ONLY do if Oliver and Felicity weren’t together. It was the truth. Such as explore them with other people and see those relationships fail for a fundamental reason. As well as delving into Felicity’s changes and Oliver’s sin. His darkness. Facing himself. To find themselves before they can find each other.

-  This season was THE one where they could throw Olicity utterly through the blender as they explored other avenues. We didn’t have to like it but it has been implied enough times for us to know that it’s because once these two idiots get together, it’ll stick. Even through bad times. With many seasons to come - like Stephen said - they could afford to slow down.

-  Dig asked a question in episode 1 regarding Olicity that has yet to be answered because like each season there is something in the first episode that gets answered in the last. It hasn’t always been a question. It’s a device used to show progression, whether for good or bad.

(Now there are many themes and questions, I’m just picking one for each) Season 1: it delves right into making us wonder who Oliver Queen is, what his mission is and why. Who he’s become. And what it might cost. It ends with a man who is a survivor but not a hero, a man who tried and failed and the cost? Tommy.

Season 2: Can he be a hero in trying a different way? Answer: yes.

Season 3: It’s more of a choice than a question: The Arrow or Oliver Queen.

Season 4: Can Oliver and Felicity be together both romantically and professionally? Does Oliver have what it takes to be the light? Both answers are ‘not yet’. They’re both under a schism.

Season 5: is Felicity going to be part of Oliver’s future and can Oliver overcome what’s been hurting him for so long? Yes and yes.

With Felicity’s help.

It’s a question posed and meant to be answered by 5.23.

-  MG recently said in a tumblr answer that he and the writers view Olicity as much more than just a romance and that it was a very good thing. And it is: it means not only will they pay attention to them as a couple, they’ll give credence to the people they are. Who they’ve become. Felicity’s had more story this year than Laurel did season 1. They’re exploring her personality, whereas LL got thrown a bunch of cases to try and fail at solving and got passed around 2 men. In fact, in each season, Felicity’s story builds. THIS year, the show has explored Oliver more than anyone else but it was always with the goal in mind of truly making him a legend: the GA. This show has always been about him.

I just mentioned Laurel and season 1…

This season, in some ways, is like a fix-it. At least, it is for me. And I promise this ties into the question :)

In season 1, Oliver tried to honour his father and did so by taking his book of names of the members and associates of Tempest and making it a list of marks to hunt, intimidate, coerce or kill. To try and make Starling better this way.

Evil begets evil.

His main love interest was LL, who he’d betrayed; however, he spent the season trying – to a fashion – to find compatibility from a woman with the man he had become.

Helena was the connective thread to his darker side searching for redemption.

Mckenna was his desire for some normalcy: an ordinary, functional but caring relationship.

Laurel was his need to heal the past; to go back in time and once again be the man he used to be, the one everyone missed, the man who hadn’t made a dumbass decision that ended in death, terror and loss.

A man who couldn’t love Laurel because he was no longer the man she fell in love with. That man died in the ocean.

(To anyone who doesn’t like what I’ve just written, please re-watch episode 8: Oliver says this to a version of LL. An episode were he sees people he’s lost and feels guilt over loosing, the people he needs to leave behind because they’re haunting him. The people he couldn’t save because he wasn’t who they thought he was.)

A man who wasn’t a dutiful son. Or the amazing boyfriend who hadn’t slept around behind LL’s back. And he wasn’t Ollie. He’d never be Ollie again except to his sister. It takes 2 seasons for him to figure that out.

Right before the end of season 1, he gets the girl, aims to save the city and declares that - once he’s finished - maybe he won’t need to fight anymore.

By 1.23 he’s lost his best friend, any last chance with LL by CHOICE not circumstance, this is important, he doesn’t save the city and his mother is arrested.

What should have happened after season 1 – I’m going to focus particularly on LL – if a) Oliver wasn’t as damaged as we’ve found him out to be in season 5 and b) if KC as LL had worked, is this:

LL would have found out Oliver’s secret at the end of season 1. After Tommy’s death they would have slept other but he still would have left.

Oliver and LL would have spent up to, roughly, episode 14 of S2 being apart until they couldn’t take it anymore. Instead of sleeping with Sara, it would have been Laurel.

They’d be on and off throughout until the end of S3.

Instead of spending the whole of S2 being an addict and recovering: LL would have also been using boxing or martial arts etc to try to kick her habit and vent some of her anger and guilt at Tommy’s death. She would have become a definite target for Slade and there would have been more than one episode covering this. By the end of the season, Oliver would have started training her. Personally.

In its place, we got an LL who spent an entire season – this is going to sound super harsh - feeling sorry for herself and blaming everyone else but herself for her problems. I know that sounds bad but, she drank and popped pills to take away her pain because it was too much for her. THAT’S FINE. THAT’S UDNERSTANDABLE.

What isn’t fine, is making damn sure that whoever’s with her feels just as bad, if not worse, than she does.

Because she doesn’t just feel guilty, she feels entitled to pass judgement. As if her pain gives her a free pass. It gives no one else on the show a free pass so this isn’t a facet the audience can like.

The last time she does it is with Oliver: that argument in the hallway after she’s just hurt her father, mother, sister and ex all in one go. After she blamed Sara – like she did Oliver – for ‘ruining’ her life. For making every bad decision and every wrong turn shes made, the fault of someone else.

That’s when a character being an addict loses sympathy. The addict part isn’t a problem. It’s how the character affects the people around them. She improves afterwards but, that mark stays with her.

We accepted Thea’s drinking and substance abuse, even if she irritated us, even if she was horribly immature with it; it was understandable and acceptable. She was a teenager lashing out at the world. But they deliberately didn’t push too far with it. They did with LL. They being the writers etc.

They make her into a vigilante for her sister with some ‘I care about Oliver even though I disagree with everything he says and have become a vigilante for SARA yet - when it suits me – also because Ollie’s one too and if he can do it - even though I disagree with everything he does – then so can I’ thrown in.

Season 5 resembles this movement… but it twists it on its head and mends what was broken.

Oliver has resorted back to killing criminals, to being very much the vigilante of season 1. He’s in love with Felicity but can’t be with her because he’s hurt her terribly and there’s something fundamental that hasn’t mended. That hasn’t been fixed. Something in him.

Noticed the similarity with season 1?

He spends the season unconsciously working from the viewpoint that he is someone who infects others. Someone who killed his own happiness and didn’t save the people he cared for.

Tommy, his mother, his father, Laurel etc… Felicity’s presence by his side. She closed off her heart to him and that’s his fault.

But he tries, like in season 1, to build something. He – at Felicity’s behest – builds a bigger team. He tries to be the politician Star City deserves. He tries to move on and date. He tries not to succumb to the monster he was the year before he returned home. He tries to atone and move forwards.

Professionally he mostly succeeds. Personally, he utterly fails.

Rory has left by choice. Evelyn betrayed them by choice. Curtis has destroyed his marriage through choice.

Rene and Dinah are flourishing.

As a politician, he’s destroyed his legacy as the Arrow, even though he thought it the right choice: it’s hurt him and he doesn’t know how to come back from that.

He killed Billy, thereby once again, hurting Felicity and reminding him again that it isn’t the worst thing he’s done.

He settled for the first offer at a relationship that came along, from a woman who he knew initially thought little of him because he needed to prove to someone like that, that he wasn’t bad and could be better. And if he could convince someone like her – even as he lied and was subpar about them – then maybe, just maybe he could be worthy of more. Worthy of Felicity.

He now feels he was an idiot to even try and once he saw that for what he was, once he realised why he’d tried in the first place he dumped Snoozan in the coldest break up I’ve seen on TV in a long time.

He’s been forced to see why he destabilises everything in his life. He’s fallen to his lowest ever point.

And like with every season, Felicity will be the one to make him rise back up.

Unlike season 1, Oliver and Felicity won’t have a quick 2-minute thing and then spend 3 episodes ignoring each other like he and LL had between 21 and 23 S1.

Olicity had episode 19 to air out the big problem between them. She thinks he doesn’t trust her and he has no idea how to tell her the truth because once he does he thinks he’ll lose her love forever. They’ll have 5.20 to circle back round to each other, to have Oliver explain why he’s been acting the way he’s been acting and have Felicity be openly vulnerable to him. 5.22 it’s his b-day party and 5.23 they all end up on Lian Yu.

Not city wide attack, no loss of a best friend (Diggle), no loss of a love that’s his life and his always and his future.

Perspective will be gained as will a new life. He’ll let go of the rope around his neck: his promise to his father. He’ll FINALLY step off the island. He’ll have the girl who completes him to help him and him, her.

They would never - EVER - give THIS much simply for fan-service. It’s far too much.

They aren’t that stupid. A waste of money, time and resources on pleasing some fans.

Ah, no.

Look, we know fans have some power. We know that. They listen to what we like and if enough people like something, they either look at it more closely or it’s given credence.

But it isn’t their motivation for action. And the CW guys, the directors, the producers, Warner Br’s etc: they make calls that we don’t know about BEFORE fan reactions even occur. Before they we loved Felicity, THEY fell on love with her first and asked her to be brought on for more episodes.

By seeing the scripts for season 2 and 3, we’ve had it confirmed that all the small moments between them over season 1 and 2 were created with an epic romance in mind. The break up has been coming since the beginning. We all know LL was the original LI, until they watched the pilot before it aired and realised they couldn’t re-cast their female lead.

The break up and the space between Oliver and Felicity has been deliberate and something they’ve been planning for a long time. As is their reunion. As is Oliver’s rise to glory.

All of this, the romance, has all been about Oliver becoming the GA. It has NOTHING to do with fan reaction.

Take a brief look at season 4’s narrative cues first:

They’re together, moving in with each other and getting married. All in 9 episodes. Wow. At the time I didn’t notice the speed but looking back at it, I’m super stunned I didn’t see the it until it was too late.

They rushed their progress to break them up. To give them lots of time to live differently without each other. I’ve already posted that I believe they’re aiming for 5 more seasons to reflect on the first 5. It had nothing to do with whether whoever makes the decisions likes Olicity or not; it was a piece of the story. They realised they were going to get more than 5 seasons – A LOT more. Revealing this secret child and having them work through that was probably going to happen all in one season. Until the glorious news of more seasons.

So, then they have that scene in 4.16 where Felicity says to Oliver that he would always be on that island and that, though she loves him and wants to be with him, he’ll always resort to being that person. To the man created in those 5 years away. The kind of fiancé who would make the kind of choices that would leave the ones he loves bereft, even if that wasn’t his intention. The man she loves who could one day simply leave her, because of a choice he might make.

It’s a progressive point: something for him to aim to beat. A wall to climb over. And some walls are really high and terrifying to scale.

They’re at a stale mate and a cross roads and to be honest, I understand why. As much as the patience they asked of us is wearing very thin, I get why it took so long.

They couldn’t get back together in season 4 because Felicity was right: eventually he’ll make a decision that will ruin them. And she needed to face her demons. Until he could understand himself, understand what lies at the root of his decisions, they were null.

And Oliver… well he’s the king at burying what hurts. It’s very characteristic of his character to take a full season to GET IT.

This is the core of season 5. His evolution. Stepping past that and becoming the hero Felicity has seen in him since day one.

And yet he hasn’t managed to do this without her.

She’s a pinnacle piece of his puzzle. Their break up is at the root of what’s hurting him.

Most of his choices this season have ended in failure and/or pain. The things he’s doing as the mayor, how he’s resorted to killing once again, then openly renouncing the GA without discussing it with his team, dating SW and then dumping her like she was nothing (she was and he knows it which is why he doesn’t understand why he dated her: it was because he was lonely btw), they’ve been based on an underlying principal that he is this bad person who destroys the goodness around him. He went in search of something to prove that wrong… what he found was much worse. He found the truth: or a partial truth.

Being alone hasn’t helped him: it’s simply made him see what he was denying for years. In a very real way, it is a sickness.

But honestly, he was never EVER going to understand himself fully, was never going to see the missing pieces without Felicity Smoak.

I believe 5.20 will be about this: about the revelation in 5.17 and Felicity showing him that there might be a different way to see this.

The way they’ve filmed the episode tells me they’ve put a good deal of thought and MEANING into it.

It’s sounding like the Olicity episode to end all other episodes: they’re in each scene together. It’s been made so that Felicity has to depend on him, something she’s been deliberately not doing all season. It will be brutally honest, gut wrenching and heart-warming MAYBE OTHER THINGS.

Now, WITHOUT proof, why would they do all that just to tide over a fan-base?

If the narrative flow to Olicity and their reunion wasn’t obvious to some people it’s because they were either too close to the subject or too angry at their break up. I get why. It was a crappy breakup and the length of time we’ve had to wait for the pendulum to swing back around has been almost too much – but they could never get back together until Oliver is at his lowest, until he is at a place he can fully open like he’s never been before.

All because of her, because she’s changing his world view of her and it is certainly not in any bad way.

And in doing this - in confessing to the one person he’s most afraid to confess to - he’ll free himself of a burden AND have what is likely going to be an amazing response from the woman he loves. Something to give him hope: a different point of view. Maybe it’s that simple. It’ll connect to their breakup. It ALL connects.

They’re tying up 5 years of story in 5 episodes, but there will be a focus on his secrets (William/his break up with Felicity) and his loose ends (the return of some major villains etc).

She’s been through something now, and she sees him in a different light — and he also sees her in a different light. There’s a lot more mutual understanding, and even though I think it’s hard to top the mutual respect they already have for each other, that goes up as well.”

WM said this and do you see how brilliant that is?

That they’re creating a couple who no one can stand against, a couple who love, respect and admire each other the most out of everyone. A couple who understand each other enough that their future encounters are bound to fascinate us.

Like someone once said, they’re the DNA that make Arrow what it is. The essential make up now of the show.

Fan-service, they will never be. They were decided BEFORE we wanted them by Warner Bro’s, CW, the directors etc.

Make Black Hat a meat that we cook for him!

Black Hat x Reader

A/N: You know the funny thing about this is that I’ve been a vegetarian for a little over a year now (no reason really, I was just curious and I felt good so didn’t stop), yet I was super excited to write this one. Here you go my friend!!! :3&

“Demenciaaaaaaa?” You called out for your friend amongst the statues and paintings of the mansion. This round of hide and seek had been going on for upwards of 2 hours now, and you were still no closer to finding your hyper friend than you were when your eyes were closed and you were counting.

“Demeeeeennnnnciaaaa?” Nothing. Not a sound. You should have known better than to play hide and seek with her. Last time she hid from you for three days without getting caught, she only came out to-

Wait! That’s it! You took off down the corridor, there was one person who could pull Demencia out of a hiding place.

“Y/n!!!!!” Black Hat’s gravely voice carried all the way down to you from his office, stopping you in your tracks. The anger either confirmed your suspicions on your friend’s whereabouts, or you were royally screwed. Either way, you soon began running to the office once more. As a general rule, it was best not to keep Black Hat waiting.

“Yes….sir…” you gasped after crashing through the door into the office, all the running causing you to hunch over with your hands on your knees while you caught your breath.

“Get…it…off of me.” Black Hat growled, sounding annoyed beyond reason and almost demonic there at the end. Your head snapped up and you saw Demencia wrapped completely around him, making happy snuggling noises, her eyes in the shape of hearts.

“Ha!! I found you!!” You cheered, but Demencia didn’t even notice.

Another growl from Black Hat snapped you out of your victory celebration and you jogged around the desk to where the two were. You hugged Demencia around the waist and tried to pull her off. She hissed at you.

“Demencia you’re annoying Black Hat”, you complained, making the mistake of looking up to see how he was doing. Fire seemed to burn behind him as he looked at you impatiently. “Seriously, Demencia, I do not want to die today!!” You hissed.

Refusing to move, you resorted to tickling her. With some combined effort of pulling and tickling, you finally pried her off of your boss. Black Hat dusted himself off, grumbling.

Demencia went scurrying away, looking somewhat like a lizard and you sighed with relief. Sometimes her antics took their toll, but you admired her. You would never be able to admit to Black Hat that your really l-

“You can go now.” Black Hat said, pulling you from your thoughts.

You turned and looked at him. He looked terrible, and not in the good way. There were dark circles under his eyes, and his entire persona seemed more tired and grumpy than suave and villainous. A piece of you ached. It never made you happy to see him that way.

You cared deeply for your boss, even though he was an evil maniac who always seemed frustrated with you. There was just something about him that made your heart flutter. Something about how he tipped his hat at you in greeting some days. Something about the low growl of his voice. Something about that smile.

But he wasn’t smiling now. He was staring back at you with tired eyes and an unreadable expression.

“What are you looking at?” He asked, seeming annoyed.

“Sir, when was the last time you ate…or slept?” You asked quietly. He raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t know and I don’t care.” He responded going back to the papers sprawled across the desk.

You sighed, walking over to him and offering a hand. He looked at you as if contemplating murder.

No. Too easy.

“Black Hat, you better come with me to get some food, or so help me I will go find Demencia again and this time you won’t have my help getting her off.”

It was a bluff. You had no idea where Demencia went. If she still thought you were playing hide and seek there was no way you’d be finding her anytime soon, but Black Hat didn’t know that. He took a moment to decide, then took your hand, grumbling about all the work he could have been doing while you dragged him down the hall like a reluctant lamp of evil.

You just kept going, trying hard to control the blush on your cheeks. Black Hat’s gloved hand felt warm on yours, and you almost didn’t want the hallway to end.

You stopped when you reached the kitchen. For a moment, neither one of you moved, but the two of you realized at the same time that your hands were still clasped together. Both of you dropped the other’s hand and looked away. Trying to play it off like nothing happened.

You went to the fridge, but then looked back to your reluctant companion. What would he want to eat? You looked at his pointed teeth and one word came to mind: carnivore.

Yeah that sounded about right.

Luckily for you you were already planning on making yourself and the others some steak tonight, so you already had some thawed out meat handy. Quickly you went about seasoning and cooking Black Hat’s food, remembering that he enjoyed his steaks cooked rare. Because of course he did.

All the while Black Hat went to lean up against the kitchen wall, alternating between impatiently checking his pocket watch and staring at you. Why did you care so much? His eyes narrowed, calculating.

Suddenly you walked up to him and offered a steak to him. He looked down to your shorter frame and took the meal with one hand, and patting you on the head with the other. He-

Wait he did what? You blushed slightly and he stared at his hand. He didn’t remember telling it to do that.

“Um…Thank you…” he said.

“Of course, sir!” You smiled, overjoyed at the appreciation.

Black Hat ignored the utensils completely, instead lifting the large piece of meat and eating the entire thing whole. Your eyes widened, half impressed and half surprised.

“Y/n…” Black Hat said slowly, you prepared to run away, “Can you make more of those?”

Your smile widened, “I guess the rest of us will have to think of something else for dinner.”

“Yes they will.” He said, “But I never said anything about you not joining me…”

13x01 - Episode Review - Part 2

“Nougat Winchester” and narrative mirrors in 13x01

It has taken me forever to finish this part of my review to the extent that we have already had another episode before I finished it! But rather than curse my inability to focus I’m gonna press on and complete this before I start my 13x02 review.

Ah Jack, Jack our little nougat Jack. The way the fandom has embraced you is very touching. The internet screams of “PROTECT HIM” certainly show that Alexander Calvert has done an exceptional job of “pulling a Misha” and making us fall in love with him by the end of his first scene. I was not expecting that one bit.

I’ll be honest and say that over the hiatus I haven’t paid too much attention to him. I did read some of the meta and speculation that @tinkdw and others put out there, but it was never really something I focused my thoughts on. I figured he would be another character that would test the team free will dynamic and would be a good avenue for the writers to comment on the concepts of nature vs nurture. I remember reading some speculation once the episode titles first came out about “The Scorpion and the Frog” and anyone who knows that story knows very well that the title itself foreshadows Jack going darkside – to his own potential destruction. (The scorpion, in carrying out its own “nature” and stinging the frog that carried it – not only doomed the frog, but doomed itself as well.)

Jack has officially won me over though. He was a charming innocent and funny character, and I think his interactions with Clark brought a lot of light to an otherwise terribly angsty and painfully heart breaking episode. (#bringbackClark2k17)

But what really blew me away was how both Jack AND Clark were such OBVIOUS mirrors for Dean and Cas and to a lesser extent to Sam. It amused me to no end. Therefore this review will focus on those mirrors, and what they mean.

Have a bit of a rant about Batjokes (yeah still not over that Telltale episode 2 preview) and DC in general, especially regarding Joker’s sexuality.

Isn’t it kind of funny how Batwoman (Kate Kane) was created to make Batman appear more straight (no I’m not making this up, they actually created her because Batman seemed too gay – you can google it) but then they decided to make her a lesbian? And how Harley was created to make Joker appear (among other factors) more straight and was then made into a bisexual who’s currently dating Poison Ivy in a lot of comics. But of course they always bring her back to Joker whenever they need to make a point again how terribly straight Joker is.

Yet neither Joker nor Batman are allowed to explore their YEARS LONG homoerotic subtext properly without hiding behind a big “but no homo tho” (fun fact: Batjokes is actually kind of canon in the Flashpoint Paradox because it was Bruce who died and Bruce’s parents turned into Batman and Joker … so clearly the writers see the appeal but can only do it if one of them is a woman lmao) . Like it just frustrates me to no end.  I’m not saying to make them canon in all comic/game/movie canons but DC has this thing of creating a lot of self-contained stories. Like the Gotham show on Fox for example is it’s own thing (but let’s not even start what they did to Nygmobblepot last season ugh, that’s a story for another day) where they play with different interpretations of characters and canon. Telltale also changed a lot of stuff and had a fresh new take on the Batman lore.

Remember how Anthony Ingruber was so freely saying how he sees Joker’s feelings for Bruce as borderline love? And even revealing that they made him play the church scene as a first date, so all the subtext we’ve been feeling wasn’t just “shipping goggles”. Well my theory (and this is just a theory, not saying it’s true) is that the higher ups saw what kind of interpretation the fans started to have and felt the need to make a “no homo tho” statment. When you even see Youtube comments catching onto it you know it’s not just something strictly coming from the audience on this site.

I feel like they’re also gonna (or already did) tell Anthony to keep it down with his Batjokes rambles in interviews.

Look, realistically speaking I wasn’t expecting any canon gay in Telltale. I just expected strong subtext to continue and hoped that Harley wouldn’t be Joker’s love interest. And I was completely happy with that. But then they put out that preview and the more I think about that scene the more it hurts me. It’s like they wrote it in just to kill our more homoerotic interpretation. Like to make it CLEAR that NO, Joker doesn’t love Bruce, you silly silly people. Ugh. Sorry, my salt is real. But on the bright side, I’m glad it at least wasn’t treated as a joke or anything. And Joker didn’t react in any homophobic way or anything like that so there’s that at least. :l Still hurts though. Thought I think we should still wait for all the episodes to come out before being sad about it because this was just a quick preview and previews can be deceiving sometimes. I don’t want to judge this decision of theirs too harshly before getting the whole picture, you know?

And I mean I get it. I get why DC is more comfortable making female characters LGBT because their audience consists of largely straight dudes. Many big DC female names were confirmed to be LGBT, now that I think about it (Batwoman, Harley, Ivy, Catwoman, Catwoman’s sidekick, even freaking Wonder Woman who’s as big as Batman and Superman is said to be bisexual in comics) but they shy away from doing it to any male characters. Because fanboys would have a heart attack if their favourite hero and villain (Batman and Joker are very big names and are DC’s main cash cow so yea) would be confirmed not straight in any version. And DC as a business wants their money. So yeah I do get it, but it’s still frustrating as hell, especially with all the double standards.

Also in general it’s frustrating when writers try to deny J’s homoerotic subtext because they’ve been using it as a horror element for so many years (back when gay was seen as a bad thing) but now that Joker is so popular and we live in a culture where villains are usually more of an interest to people than heroes themselves they’re trying to back away from those elements. Like … that’s just a shit thing to do. Own up to it. Now that he’s seen as cool he’s no longer allowed to be gay? A lot of his charm comes FROM those homoerotic traits, even if they fly right through some people’s head.

Rant over. Sorry haha ;;

In many ways, deep and superficial, this ep was all about surrendering one’s self - on every level imaginable. Everyone in the ep had something to surrender.

I loved how her journey in this ep was constructed, how important it was for us to see her dream and lust for Jamie the way she did first, which tainted all her encounters with Frank after. Because while her memory of Jamie was vivid, and as powerful as it was, there was something elemental missing. No matter the physical needs, nothing would or could satisfy without the emotion, without her heart.

“I’ve seen ye so many times,” he said, his voice whispering warm in my ear. “You’ve come to me so often. When I dreamed sometimes. When I lay in fever. When I was so afraid and so lonely I knew I must dies. When I needed you, I would always see ye, smiling, with your hair curling up about your face. But ye never spoke. And ye never touched me.”

The show’s gone and applied this perfectly to BOTH of them in this ep. She turns to Frank and says “I miss my husband” and she does, it just isn’t Frank. But it tries to serve a purpose, her trying to catch wisps of Jamie’s ghost, while attempting to try and make things work with Frank fail miserably, coz there’s one thing neither can run from - it will never be Frank she sees in those moments. “Open your eyes” he tells her over and over, but she can’t, because if she does, the echo of Jamie she’s trying to recapture, disappears, she shatters the illusion. Everything about their sex (esp the second time) felt awkward, uncomfortable and forced. Nothing felt naturally flowing - for me anyways. When he called her “Baby” I was like NO bitch, reel that shit back in!

I legit CACKLED when we see the wide shot of their bedroom at the end and you see the twin beds! It’s something I was not expecting but welcomed with open arms lol!

Everything with Claire and baby Bree was so beautiful to see! Claire’s baby voice she uses for Bree is something I can just listen to all day. And wee Bree’s wee yellow bonnet is just the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and dem chubby cheeks - I DIE!

Claire and Joe’s intro was lovely! I totally got an excited jolt when he walks in and immediately makes his way to her - like recognizes like! Friendship from the first moment!

Shell of a man is how everyone had been describing what Jamie would be, and shell he was. Down to the way he walked and carried himself (at times even doubled over like he had a serious case of appendicitis), every step he took was unsure, laboured. He stood folded within himself. Even when he spoke, the lackluster way he said things, there was no recognizing the man he used to be. Only in very few glimpses did the old Jamie peek out. Ian described it perfectly when he said Jamie’s phantom limb was his missing heart.

I’d been very apprehensive about how the show would handle him and Mary, but was pleasantly surprised to see just how close they stayed to the book. It was awkward and sad, and made me feel exactly as I did when I read it in the book. I loved the addition of him being unable to open his eyes, just as Claire couldn’t look at Frank, Jamie couldn’t look at Mary. And even though he gave her the kindness of saying “It’s something I do”, we know and Mary too knew it for the lie it was.

Additional Thoughts:

- I loved how everyone had something to surrender in some way, shape or form. From Jenny surrendering Jamie to the redcoats which was deeply laced with a bitterness that he’d forced her hand, forced to give him up. Their last convo was so much more than just a show for the redcoats - she meant every word she yelled back at him - she would never forgive him for forcing her hand the way he did. To Ian surrendering his freedom for Jamie’s - and later Jamie doing the same for them. To Fergus losing his hand because he refused to surrender to the redcoats all episode, his defiance lost him his hand. To Frank surrendering to the realization he’ll NEVER have Claire back. To the professor who had to surrender to the changing times whether he liked it or not. To Claire surrendering her sexuality knowing nothing she did would be enough to satisfy that part of her she lost with Jamie. To Mary surrendering to the realization that even as Jamie kissed her, he wasn’t with her in the moment. There were so many levels of relinquishment in this ep that no one came out unscathed.

- Can’t wait to see Claire kick all kindsa ass in the next ep as Dr Claire! Seriously, when that professor was like “Alright Gentlemen” when he knew she was sitting right there, I was even more ready for CEBRF to dominate these assholes!

- Anne Kenney’s comeback was well worth it! She totally made up for 2x08

- As apprehensive and critical as I’ve been, there’s no denying s3 has started off amazingly. Strong and true in tone and motivation for Claire and Jamie. Moments I thought would leave me ragey, so far, haven’t.  I even didn’t mind the expansion of Mary’s character (though NGL she got to do something I always wished we’d see Claire do - Shave Jamie lol). Moments I thought would be pushed to their unnecessary limits, haven’t. YET. 2 straight eps I’ve enjoyed, and I’m really, genuinely looking forward to next week’s ep!

- “We’re here for the Dunbonnet. He wears a brown hat to cover his red hair” *literally the next scene* Jamie with his free flowing long-ass hair with a bonnet that concealed fuckall! I honestly don’t see why they unnecessarily over exaggerated his hair/beard as much as they did. The wigs in general were just terrible lol (feel like I’m gonna be saying that a lot)

- Curious to see whether they can keep this momentum going, but by all accounts they haven’t fucked this season up yet, as a lot of us were fearful they might. Next week has nothing problematic in terms of story, and I think we’re ALL looking forward to Claire and Frank’s epic showdowns to the end, and Jamie’s search for his white witch!

- One more major hurdle, guys! I have but one hurdle left to go and I don’t have to think about it for a blessed 2 weeks!

1-Minute Anime Reviews

This season is fantasy, fantasy…and more FANTASY~!

So what did I pick up this season? A whole lot of strange, mixed things.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis (S1) & Virgin Soul (S2)

Genre: action, fantasy
Summary:  A bunch of angels and demons who try to wake up the destructive Dragon Bahamut, versus a bunch of angels and demons who try to stop said dragon from waking up…and in between them, a couple of eccentric bounty-hunters caught up in the middle of the mess. Gets even messier in S2 with a girl who turns into a dragon whenever she sees a hot guy. Fun times.
Story: B/B+
Characters: B+
Overall: B+
Commentary: By the same studio that animated Yuri on Ice, except with far better budget/management because the animation for this show is generally pretty easy on the eyes from beginning to end. First season is over, and second season is currently airing; and I gotta say, while the series doesn’t bring much new to the table in terms of plot or premise, it is insanely fun and well-balanced. This is not only a show that’s done great, it’s also the kind of show that can be recommended to just about anyone. Based on a mobile game, but is surprisingly a really good standalone adaptation. Pure entertainment.

Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou

Genre: fantasy
Summary: A hermit loli-witch leaves her cave to find her stolen spell book and runs into a witch-hating tiger-man who wants to become human. They form a contract in which he protects her until she retrieves her grimoire, and in return she’ll transform him into a human once the goal is fulfilled.
Story: C
Characters: C+
Overall: C+
Commentary: I’m not really sure why they made an anime of this, it’s not only predictable, but also really mediocre in terms of…well, everything? But I guess the furry is kinda cute. There’s often a lapse in logic but at the very least, it’s a moderate show, so you won’t pop a vein watching it.

Rokudenashi Mahou Koushi to Akashic Records

Genre: action, fantasy
Summary: A subpar spell caster / lazy mooch is forced to teach at a Magic Academy on his master’s order. Not only does he lose to his student in a spell fight, he’s flippant, doesn’t take bets seriously, and begrudges having to work. However, he may secretly be more talented than he lets on…
Story: C+
Characters: C+
Overall: C+/B-
Commentary: There were one or two entertaining moments, I have to admit; after all, the protagonist is a sly, underhanded charlatan… but the best way to describe this series is that…it feels distinctly like it belongs in the late 90s, early 2000s; a very generic anime from that particular era. That’s the kind of feeling it gives off. It’s not amazing, just barely passable. This is definitely more of a particular crowd’s kind of show (what with the sexy garters on lolis—).

KADO: The Wrong Right Answer

Genre: sci-fi, drama
Summary: A formless being from another dimension coined the Anisotrophic descends upon earth, dons on the skin of man, and offers to mankind the keys for transcending their mortal limitations. The world is at a crossroad. To rapidly advance or not? May the discussions begin.
Story: 🔥  <-fire I ate.
Characters: 🔥 🔥  <-fire burning my stomach lining.
Overall: 🔥 🔥 🔥  <-still on fire and internally screaming.
Commentary: You might have already seen my earlier review on KADO, but I essentially love/hate this show because I was led to think it was going to be a show about clever negotiations but ultimately ended with a fist fight. And while I still might recommend it just for all its obscurities, because it IS different, and could be a source of inspiration to some—I suggest viewers watch it with, not a grain, but two fist-fulls of salt and be prepared to get frustrated at some point.

Oshitsu Kyoushi Haine

Genre: slice of life
Summary: In a fictional, Victorian-esque setting, one tiny but supremely talented tutor is summoned to the royal palace in order to groom and raise four troublesome princes into proper candidates for the throne.
Story: C+
Characters: C+
Overall: C+/B-
Commentary: Not a very creative or inspiring series, but generally relaxing, mildly entertaining and appealing enough to be a decent time-passer. Admittedly, it’s more of a visual guilt pleasure geared towards a female audience than much else. I’m kind of amused though, that super newbie seiyuus (minus Aoi) are the main cast and the more famous ones play support XD…

Genre: card games, shounen
Summary: An aloof guy (with outrageous hair) who tries hard not to stand out in a crowd in real life (are you serious?), while in virtual reality he is secretly a powerful duelist known as Playmaker. Playmaker logs onto the duel server to fight against a renegade group of duelist called the Knights of Hanoi, who are also after him because he harbors the snarky A.I. Ignis in his duel disk. Chasing after them seem to be one of Yusaku’s 3 goals…much like his 3 reasoning for everything.
Story: IDK what I even say about this, it’s typical young-shounen?
Characters: ’_’) the usual archetypes thus far with not much variation.
Commentary: I actually had to drop the show quite recently because it was just going nowhere fast (yell at me if it magically somehow becomes amazing later on) — Anyway, I gave it a good shot. I really, really liked Ignis (the only deuteragonist I actually do like? Bonus points for being voiced by Sakurai), but pretty much disliked everything else. Although to be honest, I had already disliked this show from the early concepts. It was the first time I saw the previews/trailer for a new YGO series and knew I wouldn’t like it from the get-go. Yusaku is exactly the sort of typical protagonist I’d find in an Isekai novel (most of whom, get on my nerves); and even then by comparison, he’s one of the least interesting and more awkward of the bunch. Moreover, I have watched, very literally…every single Shounen anime within the last couple of decades and this show is among the most cringy of its kind (kimoi is the word that’s in my head). I’ve never dropped a TCG show nearly as fast as this one. If I were to keep watching, it might just barely be for the TCG. (I also can’t stop chortling at the name Knights of Hanoi, I keep picturing Vietnam…And what’s with all these chuunibyou, goosebump-inducing names…)

The only good thing to come out of this is now my friend who likes Vrains can’t poke fun at me for liking certain kids shows.

Uchouten Kazoku S2

Genre: slice of (tanuki) life, fantasy
Overall: A-
Commentary: This series is already moderately famous so I won’t get too deep into it, but Uchouten 2 is just as lovely as Uchouten 1. This show is hands down my absolute favourite of the season. It’s strange, wacky, exciting, and very close to home sometimes. The themes are solid, the narrative strong, and the characters absolutely charming. It’s an overall magical account about family and personal nature, and I highly recommend it.

Genre: action, fantasy, drama
Summary: What happens when your novel creations come to life and try to confront you, the creator, as well as all of humanity? Are we also a creation of someone else? Things get a little strange and analytical in RE:Creators.
Story: B+
Characters: B+
Overall: B+ (thus far)
Commentary: This is an on-going show. I’m not sure how it’s going to play out in the end but so far I’m enjoying it quite a bit. They sometimes run a little too long on expositions; which to me is totally fine, because it’s the good kind of exposition—like a second wave of Log Horizon.
I came into this show expecting it to be some sort of terrible adaptation of a light novel (because the title name, seriously) but pleasantly wound up with not only an anime-original (with concepts from the creator of Black Lagoon!), but also a very serious tone for such a whimsical premise. The characters have notable depth to them and engage in a fair amount of discussions with substance…they express the kind of opinions that are so well-aligned with their nature, it gives off the sensation that they’ve broken away from being mere puppets of the script. For me, it’s always deeply interesting when characters can express themselves and act/react accordingly with an agreeable sense of logic (—in other words…my god, another rare show where characters can actually think for themselves—and this was not meant to be ironic).
