chanty idk if you're opening prompts but how about some angst because im terrible like that (“No, it was my fault for thinking that you might care.” + “I think I’ve been holding myself back from falling in love with you all over again." + “Those things you said yesterday… Did you mean them?”)

also “Steve and Natasha break up. After 3 months, Steve is still miserable but trying to move on. Natasha is still miserable but stubbornly refusing to admit it and pretends everything is okay. One day, the other Avengers start acting weird around her and then she finds out it’s because Steve is going on a date.” left by @bloodredmoon87.

Your name: submit What is this?

“Buck! Look out!” I said, and as he read my thoughts, Bucky leaned down enough for me to jump over him and hit a man that was coming after him with my legs.

Knocking the man out, I looked back at Bucky. He gave me a nod. “Come on,” He said, changing the ammo on his weapon. “We don’t have much time left,”

I nodded. “Cover me, let’s head straight to the lab. We need to find the virus,” I walked ahead of him, looking out for all the other agents, security guards or anyone else in our way.

At this point, after so many missions as partners, I trusted Bucky with my life and I knew the feeling was mutual. We’ve got to know each other better in harsh and desperate situations, but that only made our friendship stronger. Thinking alike, acting alike, made our job much easier.

This time, we received the mission to find a deathly virus, essentially used to be a bioweapon. We travelled all the way to the Ukrainian Science Division, responsible for creating the virus, to retrieve it before it was landed in the wrong hands. The way through the aisles of the building wasn’t filled with security to stop us, which even though we made sure to go barely unnoticed, wasn’t exactly what I was expecting.

Missions aren’t usually this easy. Something wasn’t right.

We arrived at the lab, Bucky approached the door and looked at me. I nodded and he put in the electronic device that would hack the system and open it for us. I got in first and he looked around to make sure no one saw us coming in.

After a quick search, we found the glass cylinder with a green liquid inside. Why is it always green?

“Buck. Got it.” Without taking my eyes off the virus, I put it back on its suitcase and motioned to get it out of the table.

“(Y/N). Wait!” Bucky said, seeing a trigger on the suitcase.

Soon enough, the alarm of the building started. The windows started to close and so did the door. “Come on!” Bucky got me by the hand and we ran out of the lab, finding a small army of 20 men waiting for us on each side of the aisle. I knew it was all too good to be true. Bucky gave me a look and I nodded. Time to kick some ass.

Between gunshots, punches, explosions and more gunshots, we made our way through the forty men barely breathing. I was down when I felt Bucky’s arms getting me up. “Are you okay?” The look on his face was something between desperate and scared. I’ve never seen Bucky with that look before. I nodded and saw his expression relaxing a little bit.

“We have to get out of here before they send in more,” I told him and he frowned, knowing that I was right.

We ran as fast as we could, only then hearing a really loud explosion sound. Then another, and another.

“They are leveling the building!” Now, I was genuinely scared for our lives. “They won’t let us get out alive with the virus!”

“I’m not going to let you get hurt, you hear me?” Bucky touched my face with his right hand. “Do you hear me?”

At that moment, even with all the explosions, all I could do was take in the warm feeling of his hand on my face and the look of his blue eyes on me. I nodded. “I hear you. You’re getting out with me, too. Hear me, Barnes? I’m not leaving you behind even if it kills me.”

I saw a smirk on his face. “Yes ma’am.”

We ran for our lives. At every new explosion, one aisle was shut with rocks and destruction. I was sure we wouldn’t get out of there alive. Until Bucky saw a window close enough, ran towards it and smashed it with his metal arm. “We have to jump, it’s the only way out!” He told me and I frowned.

“We’re four floors up!” I looked down.

“There’s snow down there. It won’t be too bad,” He lied to me, and for the sake of my life, I had to believe.

“Okay. You’re insane. But okay.” We pushed ourselves through the window to a small step outside of it. Bucky took me in his arms and we jumped.

I woke up at the Avenger’s facility, in an infirmary bed. I had my arm in a cast and some bruises here and there, but I was alive. A soon feeling of desperation got to me when I didn’t see Bucky anywhere. A nurse, nearby, noticed my reaction and came to me. “Where is Bucky?”

“He is fine. Mr. Barnes only had a few injuries and healed faster than you did. You’ve been out for a couple of days, Miss (Y/N).” She told me. Until Maria Hill made her way inside the bedroom.

“Hey. I’m glad you’re okay.” Maria walked over to the side of my bed. “It was a hell of a mission you guys were on. I’m surprised you’re alive.”

“Yeah. We didn’t see that coming.” Sighing, I looked away. “I need to get out of here, Maria. I need to see Bucky.”

“He’s been here with you all this time, making sure you were okay.” Maria admitted. I looked at her. “Tony asked me to invite you to his New Year’s party tonight, if you were feeling better.”

“I’m not sure I’m feeling like going to a party,” I told her, looking at my cast. “Will… Bucky… be there?”

Maria smiled. “Tony said you were coming, so there’s a high chance, yes.”

“You’re gonna have to help me on this,” I smiled at her.

I didn’t see Bucky for the rest of the day, and by then, I was already consumed by anxiety. I had to see him with my own eyes. Maria helped me get ready, putting on a strapless red dress that ended in the middle of my thighs and black shoes. She also insisted on helping me with my hair, even though I didn’t want to do anything.

As I arrived at the party, my heart was racing. Why am I feeling like a teenage girl? Sighing, I made my way in, walking down the stairs to Stark’s living room. I heard a whistle and saw Natasha smiling at me.

“Almost dying looks good on you.” Nat made her way towards me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I smiled.

Showing off my casted arm, “Not so sure about that, Nat.” We both laughed.

I ran my eyes through the whole room until I found him, near the bar, staring deeply at me. His mouth was a little open and he looked impressed. I looked down, trying to hide the fact that I was blushing. We walked towards each other, meeting in the middle, barely being able to contain all those emotions inside.

“Are you okay?” We both said at the same time, laughing right after.

“Answer me, first. I haven’t seen you since we jumped of a building.” I told him, smiling.

“I am, really. I hate myself that I couldn’t prevent this from happening to you,” He mentioned the cast.

“Oh, please. I’ve had worse. One time I broke a leg, three ribs, my wrist and fingers.” I made him laugh and felt proud of myself for it. “This? Piece of cake.”

He looked down and smiled, then looked back at me. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”

“Me too.” Honestly, I was so much more relieved that he was okay. I couldn’t spare the thought of losing him.

“Uhm… You look… Gorgeous.” Bucky paused here and there, not really sure how to say those words.

“Thank you, Buck. You don’t look bad yourself.” For the first time I really paid attention to the black leather jacket and black jeans that he was wearing. He could literally look good in anything.

“Look… (Y/N). I’ve been meaning to…” Bucky started to say and I looked at him, when Tony approached us.

“(Y/N)! Just who I was looking for! My favorite agent,” Tony was clearly a little drunk already. I smiled at him, nervously. “I fixed your gear and added a few more tricks to it as a gift for, you know, almost dying.”

“Oh, thanks Tony. That’s very nice of you,” Before I could say anything else, Tony wrapped his arm around mine and walked me to his lab to get the gear. I looked back, giving Bucky a look that I would be right over.

Took more than a while for me to find my way back to the party, since Tony decided to explain all the new gadgets on my gear. When I arrived, the room was filled with even more people and I couldn’t find Bucky.

1 minute to midnight!” Someone yelled in the room.

I walked all over the room, desperate to find Bucky and hear what he had to say. I asked Nat about him, but she haven’t seen him in a while either. I was beginning to think that he left when I reached the balcony. No one was there also. I sighed and gave up.

“10… 9… 8…” Everybody started to yell inside the room.

“Bucky… Where are you?” I whispered to myself.

7… 6… 5…” The yelling continued. I could feel the excitement of the new year to come.

“Found you.” The familiar husky voice made me look back immediately. There he was, a few feet from me, standing by the door of the balcony.

4… 3… 2…”

I never smiled so big in my entire life. “Buck…”

Bucky made his way through me as fast as he could. Took my face with both of his hands and looked me deeply in the eyes.

1… Happy New Year!”

Then he closed the distance between our lips and kissed me. The kiss was desperate, as if both of us have been wanted to do that for way too long. I put my hands on his back, pulling him close. He took my hair in his hand and kissed me even deeper. By the end of it, we were both breathless.

“I’ve wanted to do this for so long…” He confessed to me in a whisper.

I touched his lips with the tip of my index finger. “Not as much as I wanted to,”

“I doubt that…” Bucky smirked at me and caressed my face with his right hand, touching our foreheads together. “What a way to start the new year…”

I smiled widely at him, while intertwining my fingers on his hair. “I couldn’t think of a better way, partner.
