EP11 comparison! tv on the left and bd on the right (x) note: the last two bd pics were clearly distorted from the camera lens, so i fixed them a little bit according to how the backgrounds should look (ie no bendy walls/reflections)
Bakugou being tied up and muzzled on the podium is no laughing matter
I already wrote about that part in my post on his and Amajiki’s mental health issues some weeks ago. I knew it was gonna happen when the episode would come out, but really, don’t treat this scene as a funny one. It’s not something to make fun of. Bakugou is emotionally unstable, and has mental health issues that need to be taken care of. But it doesn’t make him an animal or a dangerous evil being that should be restrained and publicly humiliated like that. He’s a 15 years old boy dealing with complexes and anxiety, therefore making his behavior violent. What he needs, especially as a teen, is mental care, not being mocked and humiliated as a punishment. This moment will have consequences later, and I thank Hori for that.
It’s not a funny moment. He’s dehumanized, treated as less than human in front of the whole society, and nobody say a thing. Even All Might just stay here and thinks Bakugou’s face is quite something, forcing the medal on him. And that’s a problem, both in the manga and in our reality. The trope of people being too emotional and angry to be rational, talked to and treated with care unfortunately participates in domestic abuse, and a lot of systemic oppression, mostly against mentally ill people and women (especially black women). Look at how Best Jeanist treats him later.
Is that how you treat a kid you’re responsible of? Bakugou respects Best Jeanist; he doesn’t flare up and shout at him even if the man is being very rude and harsh against him. But because he saw how Bakugou behaved and was treated at UA sports festival, Best Jeanist made assumptions on him and didn’t even wait to meet and talk to him. He nominated him just because he wanted to ‘reform’ him. As adults, people of UA and Best Jeanist failed to take care of Bakugou. Aizawa recognized it, and apologized later.
And this is no laughing matter. It will have consequences later, as Hori makes sure to show it, both metaphorically and literally with this notion of ‘being shackled by people and society’.
So, please consider it’s wrong that this situation is perceived as funny and unavoidable when he’s only a 15 years old kid. Bakugou angrily brushing his teeth after oversleeping is funny (kinda, he’s still frustrated after all). Bakugou being dehumanized and demonized by everyone, especially responsible adults who should handle the situation with care, is not.
i don’t see how anyone is surprised that marlene killed yvonne so spoby could happen. it was pretty fucking obvious that she wasn’t going to stick around from the start. it’s rushed, it’s shitty writing, it’s problematic as hell, and yvonne and spoby both deserved a far better resolution.
But come on, this is the writing team that decided romance was having caleb and spencer fall in love for half a season only for caleb to cheat on her with hanna and then claim he’s loved hanna all along, who are still romanticizing a teacher/student relationship that, even looking past all it’s other transgressions, continues to be boring af, who think the best way to put emily and alison together, the slowburn ship to end all slowburn ships who would have had no trouble being brought together naturally, is to introduce two other girls for emily and then inject emily’s eggs into alison in a complete and utter violation of both girls bodies.
like, did you expect better from the writers? really? if you didn’t see this coming i don’t know what to tell you.
This was my favorite part of this episode. Here’s why:
So here comes Daesung, trailing after Seungri, hands full with bowls of washed lettuce and whatnot. He’s taking his sweet time and,
in typical introvert fashion, complaining about how he isn’t ready to return to camp yet (“I don’t feel like going back”)… but the second he sees TOP tending to the fire his demeanor changes.
He’s all, “Whoa, look at that fire! You okay over there?” There’s a teasing note to it, yes. Because he’s already been on TOP’s case once today about the importance of washing his hands before handling meat that they’re all going to eat, come on, hyung.
But just underneath that there’s genuine concern, too. Because Daesung cares. And TOP is Big Bang’s big baby, after all. Someone’s gotta look after him. Daesung doesn’t call himself his nanny for nothing; one look at TOP dutifully manning the grill and he knows he’s having a hard time.
At Daesung’s voice TOP turns and– finally, someone who will listen to him! “The tongs are too short,” he complains, though by now he’s laughing at himself a little too. He knows his problems are trivial, but he just… he needs to unload on someone. The fire is hot! It hurts his hand! Why won’t anyone acknowledge that he’s struggling?
Poor TOP, the others all shot him down when he made a fuss about the heat from the fire burning his hand: “What do you want! Leave me alone!” They were so done with him right from the start; they had work of their own to do and no patience for his whining. But then along came Daesung, offering him an ear and an opportunity to vent his frustrations a bit. And really, sometimes that’s all TOP needs to keep going: someone who recognizes that, above all, he just wants to be heard.
Can I ask why you ship kamisero? This is not to be mean, I just can't remember a lot of their interactions in the manga or anime and would love to be reminded of why they work well as a couple
!!!!! Ooookay this is kind of a weird question for me and I don’t really know how to properly answer because… uhm… they’re kind of always together?? Actually??? I mean they haven’t really been the protagonists in any arc so it’s mostly background stuff but when they appear they’re more often than not together - here, have some panels I’ve found skimming real fast through the parts I remembered them being there
(+Mina!!! squad moment heck yes!!)
(+Kiri!!! more squad moments!!!!!!!)
(real talk more often than not if Kami and Mineta are in the same place Sero is right there with them, I try to pretend that’s not true but alas)
(+Baku!!! Even more squad moments!!!! This one’s from an extra, I can’t find the translated version anymore - rip - but they’re trying to get Baku to play the thumb game I’m gonna cry this squad will kill me)
also on the cover of Vol 4 👌👌👌
The thing about me shipping them is that as I said I do prefer them as friends, which they are and it’s adorable, but I’m always up for entertaining the idea of good friends in romantic relationships so I’m 👍👍👍 about KamiSero too haha
Bex just gave a calm smile as if she’d known this moment was coming ever since the day the Blackthorne Boys walked through the front doors—like it was inevitable that the Gallagher Girls would eventually bring at least one of them to their knees.
